Free Talk Friday - April 28th

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 10:48 AM PDT

Yo /r/leagueoflegends, how's it goin? IcyColdStare with this week's (LATE AF) edition of Free Talk Friday!

With MSI right about to start, how do you think teams are gonna stack up? I'm hoping for some crazy picks a la support MF. Anything y'all think might crop up? Let's hear it!

Midseason's close! And with it comes the return of a certain shotgun wielding outlaw's vice of choice...I can't wait to try that new Sejuani (and them new splashes oh goodness). What are you hyped for? Something you're not a fan of?

Any plans for the weekend, or anything you're lookin' forward to in the future? Let's hear it!

Anywho, that's gonna do it for this week, folks! It's the same deal as usual, keep it clean in the comments, talk shop and as always, have a good weekend!!

League of Legends loot box odds released in China

MSI teams should be getting ready to play before things are swapped to the casters.

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 11:31 AM PDT

Right now we've waited 30+ minutes because both teams weren't even on stage when casters took over. This is pretty dissapointing and a waste of time for viewers when it could be resolved by having the players go on stage earlier like in regular LCS.

I'm aware that there was also a technical issue but that doesn't excuse the fact that both teams weren't already getting ready beforehand.

Edit: /u/mertcanhekim also brought in a good point about the music, it shouldn't have been looped for as long as it was. That almost made the listening experience completely intolerable if not for the casters.

Edit 2: This seems to have been resolved in SUP vs RPG, still concerned if the delay is gonna be in every first game of Play-Ins but otherwise looks like we did it.

MSI 2017 Fandom Battle

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 10:07 AM PDT

Sneaky complained about recommended items and I think most players agree. I have a suggestion to fix it and a complaint as well.

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 12:48 AM PDT

https://clips.twitch.tv/ShinyGenerousOysterTF2John

Snackster lost a game partially because he could not buy a last whisper in time, and I think several changes could be made to make the store more accessible for all classes.

A) There are very items that actually need to be on recommended, and for ADC these items are: Health Pot, Doran's Blade, Long Sword, Boots, Zeal, BF Sword, and Last Whisperer and Vamp Scepter. (Possibly Warhammer or Dirk) From these items, you can quickly buy all four BF Swords, BORK, all 3 zeal items, all boot sets, both LW items, all lifesteal items, and starting items as well. (This list may be incomplete, I'm just listing a possible set)

B) Each full item in the game should have an acronym or shortening that you can type with ONLY your left hand. Taking your hand off of your mouse is extremely annoying in ANY game, let alone Legal Legos. Players could learn the codes in order to more quickly search for items. This is a little bit more hard to implement and a little bit less straightforward, but I think quickly searching items would be useful and players would pick up the codes for common items quickly. DFG (RIP boyos) is a good example of a left hand code. For an item like Infinity Edge, the code could be EDGE (maybe that already works)

C) UPDATE THE F****** RECOMMENDED ITEMS ONCE IN A WHILE! Add BORK to ADC's, Black Cleaver to Lucian, Black Cleaver to Graves, Hextech Gunblade to LeBlanc, BAM! Simple. This can't possibly take that much effort. Even adding an item to every champ in the game's recommended tab can't take more than an hour.

D) ITEM SETS. I believe Rito James said they were working on this for the new client, as it is currently unavailable. Edit: Apparently item sets are coming out shortly after patch 7.10

TL;DR= Put the base items on the recommended page, as there are about 10 that build it to all items for said role with one or two clicks, put a code to search for items with left hand only, and update item sets regularly.

Please reply if I missed something or you have a better solution!

Life of a beginner League of Legends player.

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 07:55 AM PDT

When you first start playing League you try to stay alive, buying HP items and using champs such as Aatrox or Tryndamere because they are "undead".

Then, you just ignore boots and don't even think about buying them because you think that they are trash and you won't need them, and buying one more item will give you a better advantage versus your enemies.

Then, you start picking champions that deal damage, thinking that killing is the MOST important thing in the game.

After that, you start going crazy just to take that one kill, even though you are playing as a support.

After getting those kills, you learn that you don't have vision, so you try and place some wards in order to get some.

After you have placed some wards, it's time to focus and make something right, but still, you dive into the turret and die to take that double kill and your teammates aren't there to help you, so of course, you blame them for your mistakes and failures.

After you have done that, you start and question which champions go to each role, and Google up "Yasuo Jungle" to see if anyone else has done that or you're the only one. If you see guides, builds, and stuff, you proceed to pick Yasuo jungle, because he is "OP" according to you.

After you have done that you miraculously play right and get your first penta. Time to brag to your friends and tell them about it. You make your YouTube account ready for uploading, upload the video and share it all over the place. You had your first penta after all.

Now you are level 30. You continue to play and keep buying champions. From Zed to Yasuo, Riven, and Teemo. You learn all of them "pretty good". You find out that there is another queue called "Ranked", you ask yourself what is this about and Google it up, learning that there actually are divisions and ranks ranging from Bronze to Challenger. You think to yourself "I am easy going to achieve Challenger. I bet that if I start playing they will put me right into Gold because I am the best player."

As you find out that you have to play 10 games so they can put you in your division, you pick that Yasuo mid with pride. You put your AP runes and masteries on, and brag on champion select about how good you are and how you will carry everyone. You pick your Yasuo while your enemy picks Zed, "What an easy lane" - You think. - "I'm going to instakill him, and dodge every shot of him using my wind wall. I know it's going to work, I have done this before." These words run on your mind as the game starts, and here you are. Buying that Doran's Blade, that quick health potion, and your ward. You are ready to go and slay some enemies.

As Zed comes into the lane, and minions push, you rush into him using your "E" and attack him with your "Q" and auto attacks. Zed uses his "Q" on you and goes back, he tries to farm and not miss a shot, while you try to find the right moment to flash and airborne him, after that you know he is dead using your ignite and few auto attacks together with some "Q". You see the right moment, Zed has 36 farm while you, only 21. Zed approaches you and invites you to a fight, risking his life and going deep in your lane. You start to use your "Q" to build up stacks, and when your "Q" is ready you knock him up into the air. you then flash to him and ignite him but there is a bad surprise coming for you. Jax hops right into you, saving Zed and also giving him first blood. Your nerves are destroyed. You write in /all chat that you were lagging and that it would have been such an easy fight if your internet connection was good. Zed says okay. He has 73 farm and is now at level 7, while you, have 58 and are at level 6.

After feeding and going 2/14/4, you get your first defeat. You think that it's going to be okay and that you will carry next game, and then, you notice that you have 9 more games to play in order to get assigned to your rank, you think that it's going to be easy and you will get assigned to that Gold division you belong, and then you will go to Challenger. But your hopes go downfall when you lose 9/10 games.

"It's time to play the last game which will at least put me to silver 2" you think. "I have done so many things to help my teammates, and I also got a double kill once, I have never died more than 20 times, and I have always carried, but my teammates would always feed. It's not my fault, it's theirs". As you think these words, you get your Yasuo and continue to play. You lost your final game. Thrilled, you wait to see your rank, hoping to at least reach silver 3, and a notification loads up your screen, saying:

Your Solo/Duo climb begins at BRONZE V this season.

EDIT: Wow guys, thanks for the upvotes! I didn't know that you would like this! If you want me to make up more of these stories, just tell me and I will try my best :D
