[TIL] Press SPACE in the search box of any loadout type to see the entire collection

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 02:43 PM PDT

Basically the topic.

If you want to see all your available mounts or sprays or whatnot in the loadout screen without any tabs (mounts, for example, have Horses, Beasts, Mechanical and Magical tabs) - Then you only need to click the search box and write a single space in it.

I think Blizzard needs to advertise the mega bundles better and more clearly - I recruited like 10 people between Scarra and Voyboy's streams last night to try HOTS and they didn't know about the bundles.

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 11:35 AM PDT

I would whisper people that asked questions about HOTS in the twitch stream and talk to them about it and when I brought up the mega bundle they were all extremely confused and excited. Maybe it should be listed near the "sponsered by Blizzard" in the corner.

Edit: From some of the posts in this thread, it seems like people seem to think that the HOTS ad listed on all the blizzard games on bnet is marketing. It's not. This charity event is LoL streams targeted at LoL players who most likely do not play Blizzard titles or pay any attention to HOTS. The streamers aren't mentioning the mega bundle, so aside from me saying it in twitch chat, there is almost no marketing for it.

Edit #1: It looks like the participants are using the same overlay - who designed it? It blocks the entire bottom left interface, it cuts off a bit of the center ability buttons, and the "sponsered by blizzard" in the bottom right blocks part of the minimap/objective UI!

Edit #2: Alot of people don't even know the game is free to play. That's insane.

this border/level interaction is stupid - so difficult to tell at a glance what level players are!

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 01:51 AM PDT

when in a party screen, the border is often not even visible, because people choose to display HL/TL rank. so it is impossible to know player level without having to go into their profile.

edit: see this for an example

edit 2: comments make the following points:

  • colours are hard to differentiate
  • the actual numbers are hard to make out against the background of many of the portraits
  • some players would love a clearer representation of their achievements
  • some people want no level to be displayed
  • various suggestions for clearer borders, or just showing the whole number on the portrait
  • it's just plain silly progressing from 99 to 1

Veteran players, how being nice ensures our future

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 09:20 AM PDT

Before I played HOTS I was an avid Magic the Gathering player, still am but I don't play as many tournaments as I used too. When I was first starting out an experienced player in town took a couple weeks to teach me the basics. We would meet at the local shop; talk decks, strategy, and what makes a build work well. By the end I finally asked what made him spend so much time with a player like me. I'm paraphrasing here but the gist was:

"you are the next generation, without you my game would die."

It struck a chord with me and to this day I still take the time to teach new people the ropes in HOTS as well as Magic. It makes me feel good to pass on solid info as well as ensure the game i'm passionate about stays around for a long time. I'm not saying bend over backwards to help but keep in mind that each new player we meet is an opportunity to shape the community into what we want, supportive, kind, and knowledgeable.

Enjoy the day friends, see you in the Nexus!

You can right click a collection tab and chose "mark as seen" to hide notifications for new itens.

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 03:52 AM PDT

I just found it now. Before I had annoying times mouseovering every and each new item to hide the notification, so maybe it will help some people too.

edit:

/u/_Kline added: Or just right-click the collection tab itself (not a specific category) and it will mark all the categories.

The player level indicator should be different

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 05:20 AM PDT

We can pretty much all agree that the current system isn't really working in a way that we would like. The way it's is displayed makes it really hard to tell the actual player level. If this is the way Blizzard intended, then why even bother displaying it at all?

If they don't want to display the 3 digit level, then change the border to be something more obvious like in Overwatch. They could have the border display a badge at the bottom to indicate the 100 that player currently has. Something like a military-esque badge system could work too (100 = private (one ''), 200 = corporal (two ''), 300 = sergeant (three '') and so on) or just do starts like in Overwatch.

Below is a picture from Overwatch for those who don't play it. https://i.stack.imgur.com/jw5ZL.png

Most unique Moba ever

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 02:42 AM PDT

I am a player coming from Overwatch again. I only touched it one time before but this 2.0 update hit me with surprises and I rediscovered this game. I have 200 hours on Dota 2, 50 on League and alot on Vainglory, but this game is COMPLETELY different in a good way. For instance the exp share for the team actually promotes team work. In a game like Dota, there aren't people who jungle or too many jungle, but here there is actually teamwork. We must work together to get to higher levels for perks. Each map is special with stuff you must collect to help your team. The game is also simple to grasp and games don't last for up to 60 mins in Dota, its just quick and fun. I also like that there is not items you must BUY to do certain things, perks will change how you play the game by itself and most of it requires skill, unlike some games where some items are overpowered with certain heros and if one team snowballs the other will almost always win. Depends more on your skill that what items are "meta" for this hero. I will be playing more Hots for now :]

Let Aba spray from hatted non-heroes?

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 04:52 AM PDT

Super Love 2.0! Great to finally see my Aba's level rising again, and the banners help show newer players all the work he's doing. (Too bad every other character is also using it, obviously the coolest banner. ;)

Since Aba spends most of the game hiding from the enemy, laying sprays with him is... kind of pointless. Wouldn't it be nice if he could spray while hatting non-heroes? I suspect doing it while on heroes would open abuse/trolling issues, but creeps & buildings would be fine, right?

So yeah! Thanks Blizzard!

Heroes of the Storm Needs Automated Tournaments Like StarCraft 2

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 11:18 AM PDT

  • Scheduled, 5v5 Tournaments with 8 teams.

  • Boxes and Profile pictures as rewards for the first and second place.

  • Display in the new hud how many tournaments played, how tournaments a player won, both queuing Solo and as a Team, separate the information.

  • Make it free to enter, but make it require a certain level to enter. And that level of course must be higher then the level requirement to enter Hero League. Maybe twice higher. It's the next level of competition of Heroes 2.0 lets say, so you gotta grind to be able to play. That's life. Also, it's a speed bump for Smurfs.

  • Allow "Solo Queue, Find me a Random Team" option, but aware the players that the best experience is always with friends, for more organized gameplay. This is a safe warning, like in Diablo III, when you make a Hardcore hero: If he dies, he dies. In here it's like: if your team random players team is bad, don't cry about it, we advice you to group with players you know.

If you are not familiar on how the SC2 Tournament System is, I have this very, very old link, but basically explain the whole concept:

http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/19929294/an-in-depth-look-at-automated-tournaments-10-21-2015

You should also do this to Overwatch. Because it creates windows for people to talk to their friends, group up and go to a tournament. It's fun, it will take some time to balance, things are not perfect on release, but that must not weight down such an amazing idea. It was Blizzard's idea, not mine, I am just showing how you can apply a StarCraft 2 similar concept to Heroes 2.0, and honestly I see this working way better in Heroes 2.0 then it does in StarCraft 2:

Because Heroes 2.0 is a genre of games that craves for organized play, and you want something more organized then fun tournaments where you don't really need to play as a solid team, but you can just pick 4 friends and say go. It's fun to play a real Draft with people you really know, against another team that is also doing the same.

The reward is just an extra, I can say a number here, I don't have the data. Small to Medium, couple boxes to second place (each player getting a couple of course) and maybe 5 to the first place? Maybe?

So yeah, that is it. If you like to, leave a comment, let's discuss this even further. Also check my idea on bringing Rock N' Roll Racing to the Nexus and the suggestion to have the actor Travis Fimmel (Anduin Lothar in Warcraft) to work with Blizzard on a skin for Varian based on Lothar (or as people call, a "Hero Remodel"). I believe both are good ideas for the game, but also good PR moves for Blizzard, to bring more attention to Heroes 2.0.

Thanks for reading.

LoL player of 6 years, HotS player of 6 minutes.

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 03:05 PM PDT

So, I'm fairly new to posting and browsing around reddit so bear with me.

I have been a pretty serious League player for quite some time, (only plat so don't make funsies) but I did dabble in HotS back when it was in alpha and immediately ruled it off as trash and not competitive and just for "fun". Well this new update made me want to dive back in, with all these free heroes and content, it got me interested. As I do love Overwatch and they obviously had lots of inspiration from it, I thought it was time to dive back in and see how its shaped up since my hiatus back in early alpha. I have always been a Blizzard fanboy also, (WoW for like 8 or 9 years, where my rogues at!?) so to dismiss another game by them so quickly was a bit extreme. I love the WoW universe and the characters that have been brought over to this game from it, so it was about time to see what the hype was about...

& honestly, it's awesome. I've had so much fun in the last few days and seeing how far the game has come in general (not just 2.0) but the heroes, reworks, maps, e.t.c. (pun intended) it really has sparked some serious want & need to play more and more. I almost regret not playing for this entire time and missing out on so much. I dragged a bunch of my friends who felt the same way on board and now they are believers as well. As far as the "fun" aspect, that still remains true, but I do see how this game has a competitive scene and isn't bound by the simple word, "fun".

Now here I am trying to power through getting a bunch of heroes to 5 so I can dive into ranked and see how the ranked system treats me. The smaller seasons are such a cool idea.

I'm ranting, but if you were skeptical about trying the game out as a player of another moba like Dota or LoL, no matter how long you've played it, what's the worse that could happen? You start dumping money in because your addiction to skins is overwhelming and can't be contained?!! LOL :D

How Holy Shock Makes Uther One of the Best Tanks in the Game

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 04:37 AM PDT

Now, obviously this is a big claim to make, and the title was pretty clickbait-y but hey you clicked on this so might as well read it. We'll mostly be focusing on sustain in this piece, which I address at the end of the post.

First, let's take a look at some the numbers for Holy Shock:

Holy Shock is designed to deal damage equal to half the healing of the primary target, which is also true of how Holy Light heals you, so the numbers are as follows:

Level Damage Dealt Health Healed to Uther
4 222 222
10 281 281
16 356 356
20 417 417

So at Level 20 you are dealing and healing 417 damage every 6 seconds. But I know that alone is not horribly impressive, AND you 'lose' the ability to Q any teammates Editor's note: You do not actually lose the ability to do so, but for the sake of argument, follow along.

CloneXG's Suggested Crappy Talent Guide

  1. Silver Touch brings your regular mana cost of Q down to 50, as well as a nice range up. Quest is relatively trivial to complete.
  2. Holy Shock, I know what a shock hehe but using this in tandem with Silver Touch brings the total mana cost of Holy Light down to 5 mana per cast. At level 3 you regen 5.05 mana per second. For almost all purposes, Holy Light is a free cast when used on enemies.
  3. Armor of Faith, which grants you 200% additional on top of the base 100% cooldown recharge rate (read: 3x faster cooldowns) for 6 seconds when rooted, stunned, or silenced. This means that, when rooted by Malf for example, your Q cooldown goes from the standard 12 seconds to 4 seconds, and when using it offensively it translates to Q having a 2 Second Cooldown. This means you can get 3 Q's off from the beginning of a root to the end of the Armor of Faith, resulting in both Dealing 1251 damage and Self Healing 1251 health.
  4. Divine Storm is better in my experience most of the time, but it's not relevant to the Holy Shock build one way or the other.
  5. Well Met is just a good shutdown option in general, Blessed Champion is normally a little underwhelming, and when only healing yourself it is only more underwhelming. Furthermore, with your huge self sustain you often don't need Spell Shield with this build.
  6. Beacon Of Light is insane in the Holy Shock build, as it does trigger when using Holy Shock. Beacon of Light increases your self heal at 16 from 356 per cast to 1068 per cast so long as you are at 50% health or less, and at 20 that goes from 417 to 1251 per cast, all on a 6 second cooldown due to Holy Shock.
  7. Redemption is what I choose to go with here, as I find the radius for Divine Storm often doesn't need to be upgraded, and Divine Protection is only somewhat useful if you are rolling a W build for extra duration on your trait (Devotion) as well as taking benediction to reduce healing cooldowns for easier stacking.

Putting it all together

This build is about Uther's sustain, and changes Uther's role, allowing him to function as a secondary frontline tank, bringing:

  • High sustain. Holy Light heals ~8.8% Max HP per standard Holy Shock, on a 6 second cooldown, which translates to 417 per cast at Level 20, and becomes ~26% Max HP healed when in conjunction with Beacon of Light, again translating to 1251 Healing per Q at level 20.
  • Several long stuns.
  • Surprisingly respectable poke damage, 417 Damage at long range per 6 seconds at level 20.
  • Moderate healing and armor (Mostly from W) for teammates.

Example Situation

One example I have played out a few times is this: Level 20 Uther is at roughly 50% health, on the frontlines. All the sudden, he is hit by a root, Let's say Malf's. not that it particularly matters what root but Malf has a weaker beard than Uther so The enemy team sees this Middling-health Uther trapped, and they descend upon him, throwing Shuriken and green nature goo balls what are those, Malf??? to try and finish Uther off.

This is Uther's side of the situation:

  • Right before Root is triggered, Q Malf for 417 Damage and 1251 Healing. additional Healing Sponsored by Beacon of Light
  • Uther is hit by the Malf Root
  • After 2 seconds thanks Armor of Faith Uther Q's Malf again, for 417 Damage and 1251 Healing.
  • After 2 additional seconds, Uther Q's Malf again for 417 Damage and 1251 Healing.
  • After a final 2 seconds, Uther Q's Malf again for a surprising 417 Damage and 1251 Healing.

This means that over the course of Roughly 6 seconds Uther Managed to deal 1668 damage to Malf and Heal for 5004 Health, or ~106% Uther's Max HP. Editor's Note: All Numbers Calculated To Level 20

This is unprecedented levels of sustain, that's all fine and dandy, BUT THERE'S MORE

  • Uther's Passive, Devotion, Gives allies Uther considers himself to be his #1 Ally so he counts 25 armor Read: 25% Resistance for 2 seconds, so ALL of Uther's healing gives him an additional non-stacking 25 Armor. In the situation I listed above he has a constant upkeep of 25 armor, while still getting insane healing and impressive damage in.

If you don't see that as some gangster ass shit get outta my house

Hopefully I have shed some light on why I like the Holy Shock Build.

There's more to a tank than just sustain!

This is absolutely true! Sustain is not the most important element of tanks, but I'd argue it is a vital component for a good tank. As mentioned in the "Putting it all together" subsection, Uther also has a few other tools at his disposal when it comes to serving as a tank.

  • Uther brings 2 major stuns into play, one being Hammer of Justice, a single target, point and click 0.75 second stun on an 8 second cooldown, that also lowers movement speed and damage output of the victim by 25% for 3 seconds. The second stun Uther brings is the AOE Ult Divine Storm, which is a 1.75 second stun and has a cooldown of only 80 seconds. Chained together, Uther is able to lock down an enemy hero for 2.5 seconds.
  • Uther also brings a very direct form of Damage Mitigation through his passive, granting allies 25% armor for 2 seconds when healed. Holy Radiance (Uther's W) heals in a line for 351 health at level 20 also granting your team a potentially clutch 25% armor for 2 seconds. This can be used for some mild damage as well, also dealing 351 damage to all enemies hit.
  • In teamfights Uther should be reserving his Q for Holy Shock, but in emergency situations, as well as in skirmishes or non-fights, Uther can Q an ally, healing them for 833 health Level 20 and giving them 25 armor, while still healing you as well.

TL;DR: Holy Shock give very big sustain, Great Success. Team no need heal when you are heal.

Please Uther responsibly.

Removing Varian from the warrior category for matchmaking purposes has created a worse situation that's the one it was supposed to address. In my opinion, it should be reverted.

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 09:23 AM PDT

Varian as solo tank was a problem for matches, because he was underperforming and people would often build him as assassin, leaving the team with no actual tank against the enemy with a tank. The solution? Remove him as tank in the rules. Wich now in turn screwed over matches where you have a Varian in one side and no Varian in the other. Regardless of winrate, if affects more people now, it's being abused and creates the most boring games you can think of, maybe only better than triple support comps, which are super rare.

Varian introduced the multiclass problem to no benefit, since he really only is picked in draft for the Taunt. At least he shouldn't be ruining matches with the most brainless of ults and damage mitigation ability you can think of. There are actually people in chat making teams to abuse the Varian rule to bump MMR.

I can't think of a solution, but for me it's clear that it can't stay the way it is for much longer.

I went from Silver 5 to Plat 4 this season in Hero League so far. Here's how I did it.

Posted: 27 Apr 2017 02:55 PM PDT

These results will differ for everyone I am sure, and I know there are a lot of guides for beginners, but what do you do when you're stuck in a rank?

1) Most importantly, stop dying. Dying gives the other team experience and time to soak an empty lane. If that means sitting back safely and doing less, then so be it.

2) Soak to 10. This is one of the most important things that improved my game. I started making small adjustments to push the other player out of xp range while getting exp for my team. This is a huge advantage in the early game.

3) I am going to go against the grain here and say that unless you're an incredibly good damage dealer, you can't carry your team. You're best off being a tank where you can choose fights (or not to) or healer where you're not dying. Also importantly, you can help stop pointless chases into enemy territory.

4) Pick strategic players. You will notice that characters such as falstad and dehaka are on srey's and grubby's tier list. Although the characters can be strong without their globals, they offer an incredible advantage because you can soak experience to the last second before an objective or traverse to soak experience after an objective is over. More often than not, Nova doesn't provide strategic value for your team, so save her for another map/team. Dehaka and Falstad on maps like infernals/towers pretty much guaranteed me victories.

5) Related to four I have a 62% win rate this season in HL with specialists (e.g. Azmo and Zagara). Part of the reason for this is that they offer somewhat "global" abilities (generals or nydus) during objectives like cursed hallow or sky temple. Especially in Silver and Gold, tanks/dps will just sit in laser and you can get fairly safe kills with it.

6) Turn off chat. Seriously. Many people in Silver and Gold are there because they focus more on what other people are doing wrong instead of improving their own game. This was big in turning my game around by just ignoring toxic comments through mute.

7) If you're sitting at a 50% win rate or lower with a character, it's time to change characters or change something you're doing with that character. I was always picking Samuro on every map thinking that if I just got camps all game I was doing something good. After all, I was sitting around a 51% win rate with him. I began to realize, though, that he is really good on some maps, but selecting him only when the map was right and we had the right comp improved my win rate by around 10%. In reality, I was probably getting carried on a lot of those wins.

Edit: I can't count.
