Just had the most satisfying POGO experience of my life. Posted: 27 Apr 2017 04:52 PM PDT There is a gym a block away from my house that is hotly contested, and although it gets flipped around a lot, I do the best that I can to defend it. I was at home with the app open, powering up a Pokemon that I'm working on, and I noticed that the gym had the attack animation on top. The gym was still at 52000/50000, so I must have caught them RIGHT at the beginning. As I frequently do, I immediately tossed on some shoes and walked over to try to slow them down via prestiging, as that resistance sometimes discourages people enough for them to move elsewhere. By the time I was out of the house and walking, the gym was at 49000, and the attack animation stopped for lot longer than I expected, and I realized that this wasn't the ordinary attack that I was used to. My Pokemon was at the bottom of the gym, so it had just been knocked out and returned to me. But sure enough, before I even got there, the gym was halfway prestiged back up to ten. I really dislike when people steal spots away from their fellow teammates, and in this case the spot was stolen specifically from me, so I decided to pop a max revive on my Pokemon and keep walking towards the gym to "defend" it from friendly-fire. When I got there, I sat on the steps next to the Gym, and there was a running car parked right in front of me, with a dude in it. When it was level 10 again, I popped in the exact same Pokemon that he had just knocked out, placing it right back where it was at the bottom. I took hours of time knocking down the opposing-color level-10 all-Blissey gym that was there a few days ago before this one, so I felt like I deserved to have a spot in it. I looked at the guy in the car waiting to see how he would react. He looked up at me and we held eye contact for a solid three seconds. I kindof thought that staring face-to-face at the human that he had stolen a spot from would make him realize that it was kindof a dirty move, and encourage him to move on, whether out of added difficulty or guilt. But he just kindof angrily shook his head and hopped right back over to his alt account to knock my Pokemon out again. I just shrugged and looked back down at my phone screen. Final exams ended yesterday, and I have all day. The process resumes. He knocks the gym down to 49000. There's a pause while he switches back to his other account. He prestiges it up. It hits level 10. I pop my Pokemon back in where it came from. He looks up again and flips me the bird. I just asked him, "Why do you have to cheat?" He shook his head and drove off. I walked home feeling super duper triumphant, having defended my slot. The story isn't a PERFECTLY happy one, because as I was typing this, on the overworld map I watched him come back and slide himself in while I wasn't there. But I guess that doesn't come without its benefits, because now at least I know the username of the dude I interacted with, and can remember who he is whenever I see that name around town. TL;DR: Was physically at a gym while somebody was trying to chip/shave my Pokemon out of the bottom. Kept popping the exact same Pokemon in. [link] [comments]
In lieu of a gym membership... (week 1) Posted: 27 Apr 2017 10:30 AM PDT Hi! If this is unacceptable here, please feel free to remove. I don't know if anyone remembers the post I made last Thursday. I bought a shit-ton of Lucky Eggs because of the sale... http://oi67.tinypic.com/28991d2.jpg ...and decided I would use two daily as motivation to walk for an hour (and power up my Espeon, among other things). To copy and paste my own explanation from the last post: "I'm a 5'8, 320 pound, 26-year-old woman with social anxiety bad enough that going to the gym is difficult (paranoia that everyone is laughing at me) and bad knees. Clearly this is a bad position to be in." Anyway, I'm here to check in, just as I said I would. Here's a screenshot of my Pokemon Go inventory: http://oi64.tinypic.com/2q0ka9x.jpg And here's a picture of me on the scale, if you'll please pardon my horrible toes: http://oi64.tinypic.com/2hcd9g2.jpg That's almost 8 pounds lost this week. I'm not peeing myself in excitement over that because I'm well aware it's mostly water weight. But still, it's progress! It's also the result of strict dieting as well as walking, I feel I should point that out. To address the phanpy in the room (other than myself), no, I don't have a picture of me on the scale last week. Sorry. The number I used to start, 320, was from weighing myself at my mother's house a few days prior to posting; I had to get my own scale. There were some people on my last post saying this was a hoax for attention due to the age of this account. I imagine this is just more fuel for such people. But I'm not too worried about that because I'm just going to do this again next week (provided the mods don't care). Also, to those of you who do think my account age makes this suspicious... think really hard, won't you? Do you really think I want all this personal information connected to my normal Reddit account? This site is full of people who will take anything you say and reroute it back to you in the form of "lol yea wel ur fat." I'm not here for that. Two other things I want to address: The first thing is, there's a public Kik group for ProjectBalls. There were people in it the day after I made that last post, as well as people who Kik'd me personally. I owe all of you an apology even bigger than I am. See, I wanted a way for people to get together, commiserate, encourage each other. And people have been doing that. But I am not very good at being social. When I had a message, I'd dither trying to think of interesting things to say. I couldn't think of a damn thing. I don't know how many of you understand, but if you say to me, "how are you?" then I have about a thousand different (and equally stupid) things to say, and they all begin with wondering if I should say how I really am, or if I should just be like "fine, you?". Then they branch off more. I've also been dealing with a staggering amount of self worth issues that have left me mainly doing my walks and decidedly not talking to people. In short, it's not you, it's me, and I'm sorry I suck in that way. I never expected this to get as popular as it did, and frankly I'd like it if it didn't draw a lot of attention. When I posted here the first time, it was on a whim for a bit of accountability. I considered not posting here anymore for that reason. But, hell, you have to finish what you start, yes? The second thing is, if the people who have been messaging me with offers to rub my tired feet could, uh, stop doing that... I'd appreciate it. I'd love to banter with you about that shit but I mostly just block that kind of thing out of respect to my SO (who is also joining me in this goal btw!). Are pokestops ever going to be requestable again? Because the places in walking distance to my apartment are just about barren. I got a Cyndaquil a bit ago, and that was nice, but I'd really like to stop having to buy pokeballs 'cause my Espeon and Vaporeon now take about 4000 stardust apiece to power up and I need to catch them their delicious nourishment. Posted: 27 Apr 2017 06:04 PM PDT These guys not even from here locally as they like to show off in our city's FB group about how many gyms they have, some of them have 50+ gyms. They would attack our gyms during working hours, and thanks to our awesome local map, we can see pretty up to date gyms action even at the work, like when they got taken down, who are on the gyms, etc. these guys can build level 10 Blissey gyms in less than 10 minutes thanks to still viable Bubblestrat. so usually by the time I got home pretty much all the local gyms have become level 10 Blisssey gyms. Initially local trainers try to put up a fight, me and my wife we would spend 2 hours+ try to take down just 2 of these gyms, there are 5 in our area alone. very quickly we realise it's a losing battle, these gyms take way too long to take down, and also we quickly run out of potion, and these days pokestops don't give out nearly as many potion as before. and I feel sorry for the local trainers that are on the same team as these guys, now they don't get to play at all since there are no spots for them, these guys filled all the spots with their own accounts. So you can imagine very quickly most of the local trainers quitted. I know guys try to defend these kinds of group raid/bubblestrat, how it's about groups vs groups, but a lot of times there are no such groups locally to defend. most of the time it's just individual players or 2 man team at the most, and they have no chance against these kind of group raids. And to be able to build a level 10 Blissey gyms in less than 10 minutes using bubblestrat is an issue Ninantic needs to address too. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2017 10:47 AM PDT I'm astonished. The rarest Pokémon I've ever saw. My best before was a Gengar. Randomly opened Pokémon Go while taking my dog on a walk and it appeared. Probably the only one to catch it as no one really plays where I live. Dragonite Picture (As picture isn't allowed to be a screenshot or be linked without any text) [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2017 05:57 PM PDT I bought a cellphone bike mount last summer when pogo was trending. Turns out they dont do so well after alot of bumbs and curbs ( this is just street use not mountain biking). I had to replace it twice and the third time I got a refund. They all seem to swivel at the base and this is where it breaks. Im looking for something durable but amazon reviews are unreliable. Thanks! [link] [comments]

The hostility and entitlement in this sub is hard to bear Posted: 27 Apr 2017 01:04 AM PDT I'm subscribed to more than 250 subreddits and I gotta say, the community of /r/PokemonGo sure is one of the most hostile ones of all those subs. Niantic is one of the least communicative developers out there and /r/PokemonGo is one of the biggest and fastest places to stay informed about the game's development and mechanics, and yet questions about basic stuff seem to be frowned upon and get downvoted. Insults and hate towards other people are way too common and nobody seems to care. In a sub of a game which is not only played by teens and adults, but also by little kids who shouldn't experience this hostility when they're trying to stay informed about the game they love so much. I'd like to state /r/TheWitcher as a perfect example of how things could be. Everybody over there is loving the game so much that they're HAPPY to explain all the basic stuff over and over and over. Yes, often enough answers could have been found by using the search engine, but they don't care. They're just happy to share the love to the game with others, especially newbies, because their enthusiasm and joy makes them relive the love for the game. Look at /r/TheSilphRoad. A comment can't even contain the word "fuck" without being removed automatically. Yes, some may say this is a little bit too much, but that's 1000 times better than the stuff that's going on in /r/PokemonGo. I don't know if my post should be directed to the mods or the users or maybe both, but I'd really like to see things change, even though I won't expect anything to happen. Haters gonna hate, but I needed to get this off my chest. It's just sad that one of the biggest communities (or maybe even the biggest community!?) of one of the most special games out there is so toxic. /rant [link] [comments]

Serious Look At Slaking And The CP System Posted: 27 Apr 2017 09:08 AM PDT Recently I took a look at how Legendaries would affect PoGo, and concluded that for the most part they should be something to look forward to rather than something to fear. I realize this is highly speculative, and many changes could take place beforehand. But topics are scarce these days, Gen 3 might be released this year, and so let's just jump into why I believe Slaking is going to be game-breaking.TL;DR Slaking's CP breaks the game unless a change is made. StatsSlaking is a Normal type with a Legendary stat spread. It has a godly 670 base stat total, equivalent to Gen 3 Legendaries Kyogre and Groudon.
As you may know, despite Slaking's ridiculous stats it had an ability called "Truant." The Truant ability caused Slaking to only attack every-other-turn. This was a significant impediment to using Slaking, although people came up with ways to skill-swap to get around Truant (to varying degrees of success). Slaking On Offense And Defense Without Truant.Slaking is, more or less, the unholy union of Snorlax's durability with Mewtwo's attacking power. Regardless of moveset, it will be a very strong general attacker with no serious counters from Gen 1 or Gen 2 defenders (Rhydon with Super Effective Rock Smash isn't better than STAB Mud Slap). Slaking has a wide range of move types it can learn. Of moves currently in PoGo, Slaking could learn in various iterations of the Game Boy games (by Level Up, HM, TM, egg moves, etc.):
I'd place a bet that, ignoring the reasonable possibility of more moves added with the release of Gen 3, Slaking would get Hyper Beam and Body Slam for charge moves. As for Quick moves, it is anyone's guess, but for offense Scratch (the DPS/EPS equivalent of Dragon Breath and Bite) would be quite good. And for defense Hidden Power/Mud Slap/Rock Smash would work well with the Gym AI's attack pattern. Defensively speaking, Slaking (depending on moveset) could actually rival Blissey's damage output (Confusion Mewtwo does, and while Slaking doesn't hit quite as hard as Mewtwo, he is significantly bulkier). However, it would be fundamentally different in terms of battle strategy. Blissey deals low damage that accumulates over a long period of time, and Slaking deals high damage but would not last as long. With Blissey, the strategy is pretty much to pick your strongest Pokemon and dodge only charge moves so you can finish in time. Attacking into Slaking, the same holds true, however the main difference is you will want to dodge everything. The problem with Blissey is taking it out quickly enough. The problem with Slaking is lasting long enough. I predict glass cannons will struggle with Slaking, because even a successfully dodged Hyper Beam could still cost you more than 30% of your HP. But overall, the Slaking will be easier to deal with, as time constraints don't apply. There could be room for players to choose bulkier (still dodge obviously), lower DPS attackers that wouldn't be able to KO Blissey in time. Whether Or Not Slaking Will Have Truant Is IrrelevantObviously, no one knows if Niantic will attempt to add something similar to Truant in PoGo. The important thing: Truant doesn't matter. Even if Slaking could only attack once every 15 seconds, even if it didn't attack at all, people would still put it in gyms to get that guaranteed top spot. Unlike Snorlax and Mewtwo, Slaking is an evolvable Pokemon (pre-evolutions are Slakoth and Vigoroth). Even if Slakoth is as rare as Larvitar and Mareep (or rarer), dedicated legitimate players and cheaters will be able to get their hands on a Slaking eventually through Pinaps and the Buddy System. This is where spoofing could really get out-of-control (if it isn't already…). A cheater that snipes a 100%IV Level 30 Slakoth could evolve it to a 4664CP Slaking. With literally no stardust investment, that CP is already high enough to outplace every Pokemon. That is higher than Ho-Oh's maximum CP (4650CP at 100% Level 40) and only 96CP shy of Mewtwo's (4760CP at 100% Level 40). The Future If CP Ordering Doesn't ChangeYou might be wondering, will there be any Pokemon that outplace Slaking? Well there are. But you will have to wait until Generation 6. At which point, only the Mega forms of Legendary Pokemon, Rayquaza (5752CP), Mewtwo X form (6185CP), Primal Groudon (6276CP), Primal Kyogre (6276CP), and Mewtwo Y form (6856CP) will out-CP Slaking. And good luck getting your hands on those (the Pokemon could be event-exclusives, and then you'd still need the mega stones). I don't know how long it will be till Generation 6 drops. It could be a few years. If we still have a CP-ordered Gym system by that time, Slaking will have taken over. However rare Slakoth might be, after a few years I guarantee you that many legitimate players will have multiple Slaking (not to mention cheaters…). Solutions

Tip: How to avoid getting your spot sniped when prestiging gyms. Posted: 27 Apr 2017 08:54 PM PDT Seen lot of people complaining about getting their hard earned gym spot snipe, so I wanted to share a way to prevent that. Always prestige with somebody. Calculate how much prestige you get per fight and on the last fight before a spot opens up, only player 2 does the prestiging and player 1 adds his Pokemon as soon as player 2 has won the fight. See it as player 1 "sniping" player 2's spot if you want, but having the advantage of knowing the exact second a space opens up (versus an outside snipe without that knowledge). Never failed me. Good luck and having fun playing. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2017 06:37 PM PDT Yesterday I finally reached 400 magikarp candy. The same day, I caught a golden magikarp. So I'm trying to decide: do I evolve the normal one (CP 149, good stats) or the golden one (CP 92, obviously not as good, but rarer). I'm so conflicted, since I've spent so much time trying to evolve the useless thing! And then on the last day, when I'm finally reaching my goal, this happens! I need some input. I'm leaning towards evolving the normal one (what is a color after all) but I would like to know what other people would do. [link] [comments]
[DISCUSSION] PvP - What are the spoils (risks) of combat? Posted: 27 Apr 2017 07:50 PM PDT Having never played Pokemon on my kids DS or any other platform, uncertain as to how PvP will work. Certainly Niantic will have their own twist. Considering XP, stardust, tangible awards, gain/loss of Pokemon, gain/loss of candy... what are your thoughts on how this be structured? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2017 05:40 AM PDT Hanke confirmed they are working on 1vs1 battling in the near future. The complain i heard most was people codun't fight each other. IF Niantic release the PVP during summer we might get a return of the hype. It won't be as big as 2016; but we could actually see people playing it again on the street. [link] [comments]
[Question]Does anyone else's PGO+ no longer work when you close the app? Posted: 27 Apr 2017 10:36 AM PDT That used to be its best feature because it saved my battery and I believe that is how it was supposed to be designed; connect it and then put your phone away. Now, every time I close the app, the game crashes or my PGO+ disconnects. It started happening 2 updates ago. I just use it now when the app is open, which pretty much defeats the purpose of the PGO+. iPhone 7 in case you are wondering. [link] [comments]
Blissey is the most broken gym defender Posted: 27 Apr 2017 02:01 PM PDT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjbYLrUAgVo&list=PLWVX-aUm1QsruJMkCuoDnBbOr7gW6xdXM&index=44 TL;DW I believe that Blissey is broken. Not only it is the most potion efficient gym attacker and prestiger, but due to gym defender mechanics it makes her also the best defender. Blissey abuses 2 gym defender mechanics. First: gym defender hp is dubbled. Let us think of the pokemon that wins the most from such doubling... yes Blissey, on lvl 40 with perfect stamina IV she has 829 HP. Second: Because of defenders cooldowns for quick moves it makes them generate energy slow and their DPS plummets. Problem is that loosing 200HP generates 100 energy so Blissey with >800HP will get free 400 energy to use special attacks before it faints. This corresponds to 4 extra Hyper beams (even if dodged You will recieve damage worth of one full HB not dodged) or 8 extra Dazzling gleams (even when dodged it is like recieveing 2 undodged ones). From 3 stats pokemons have. Only stamina gives thos two priveliges and it is 2 times abused by the pokemon with stamina most inflated... Blissey a broken monster... [link] [comments] |
