CS:GO - /r/GlobalOffensive Banner Competition #3!

/r/GlobalOffensive Banner Competition #3!

Posted: 03 Apr 2017 05:31 PM PDT

Hello, /r/GlobalOffensive! We are excited to announce the third round of our subreddit banner competition!. Below are the details.

Do not submit your banner in this thread, it will be ignored!

What is the contest?

Our last banner contest went really well, but it's been a while now and we love seeing what you guys can throw together! For that reason, we're reaching out to the community to create an original, visually appealing banner.

Of the submitted banners, we will choose the top three to be displayed over the course of three successive months; one continuous month per banner. In the event of a special occasion requiring a custom banner take its place (e.g. a big tournament, holiday, etc), the banner will be compensated for that time at the end of the month. After the first three months, we may use one of the winning banners again, too! We ended up using two of the winning banners from the previous competition more than once, so it's likely to happen again this time around.

Who can participate?

Anyone and everyone is allowed (and encouraged) to participate! You may make multiple submissions, but only your best banner (as judged by the panel of moderators, with popularity of the banner taken into consideration) will be eligible to win a month.

When does the competition end?

The competition will run until midnight (EST) of Monday, April 17. We reserve the right to extend the deadline if there are still lots of submissions coming in towards the end, so we will see how things go. The winner will be announced May 1st, and the banner will be on display beginning that day.

How do I participate?

You may submit your entry here. That thread is in contest mode, and any non-submission comments will be automatically removed by AutoModerator. The link to the submission must be on the first line of your comment. Again, please do not submit your banner in this thread, it will be ignored!

How will the winner be selected?

While votes on each submission will be taken into consideration, ultimately the winner will be decided by the mod team.

What are you looking for in a good banner?

We are looking for something that...

  • looks good on most displays and resolutions (see below for recommendations on how to achieve this).
  • is CS:GO oriented.
  • is visually appealing.
  • is creative.
  • goes well with our color scheme, though we are willing to adjust that to match the banner.

We are also willing to put multiple banners on rotation if you would rather have a themed set. Our rotation can be set to any interval you would like.

What's the prize?

Bragging rights, a credit mention on the banner itself (it will be overlayed as text with a link to your Reddit profile), and your own special flair!

Your banner will be seen by millions of unique people, millions of times over the course of the month. It's something to be proud of!

Banner Submission Requirements

The ideal size for the banner is 1920px wide (or wider), and 174px tall. Try to keep it as close to 174px tall as possible to guarantee maximum visibility and compatibility. If your banner is slightly under 1920px wide, it will still be accepted and eligible to win, but will have to be zoomed in on certain screens and the full height will not be visible.

The submission file must be less than 500 KiB!! We cannot upload banners larger than this limit. Preferably, we would like the download link served via Imgur, MediaFire, Google Drive, or DropBox.

NOTE: If you are submitting via Imgur, you will need to make sure you have enabled high quality uploads by going to your Imgur settings, and enabling "Upload images in high quality". This will ensure that Imgur doesn't compress the image.

Important Notes

  • Do not include any company logos, assets, or names aside from Valve or Counter-Strike's brand. Do not use any copyrighted imagery that you do not have permission or authority to use. The content must be original. We don't want legal trouble, we just want a good banner :)

  • Please do not overlay the Snoo or the CS:GO logo's that are visible in our header unless you are stylizing it in some special way (in which case, if your entry wins, we will need those separately along with a version of the banner without both logo's). Those are separate images we put on top of all banners as links. If you include a stylized snoo/CS:GO logo, just keep them close to the same size as our current ones.

If you would like to test out your banner to see how it looks on our subreddit, send me a PM and we can test it out together on /r/GlobalOffensiveTest. We can make the subreddit private for the duration of the test so nobody else is privy to your work prior to submission.

GLHF!

If somebody rejoins the game mid-round, the bot shouldn't be taken out of the round.

Posted: 03 Apr 2017 05:48 AM PDT

It's a basic problem which obviously serves no function in a competitive game and can lose people many rounds - as if having a bot wasn't bad enough.

The bot should remain in the round until it ends or until the bot is controlled. Even allowing the player who has reconnected to control the bot is a better idea than what is currently in place.

CS:GO is what keeps me going

Posted: 02 Apr 2017 11:31 PM PDT

Hey there guys, ~4 months ago I submitted a post about me having a brain tumor. I talked about how it was benign and all was well. Just last month that diagnoses changed and they've concluded it's Stage 3 Brain cancer. Although that sucks, it's not the point of this post. My point is the CS:GO and its community are actually what helps me pull through it all. It's easy to forget normal life and what's wrong in it when you're so focused and enthralled by a match. Reading posts on here while im in the doctors keeps my distracted. The community as a whole just keeps me captivated and happy enough to help me forget about life for just a little while. Despite all of the toxic players and drama that really does go on, the CS:GO community is actually pretty awesome and it does change lives. Shawn (witmer) and I are still in contact and he and I have become close friends. it just comes to show what friendships and bonds a simple game can give. You guys are awesome. Thank you all.

Edit: I'm sorry if I don't reply to your comments. It's hard to get to them all. Thank you guys for the amazing support. This is exactly what I was talking about!

edit 2: here's my steam account if anyone wants to play or ask me questions or anything. it's definitely easier to get in touch with me there

For every community server provider

Posted: 03 Apr 2017 07:02 AM PDT

Please, just clear your server.. I'm so bored of downloading tons of unnecessary files.. It's getting really annoying, when i just want to surf, and i have to download sexy santa girl model and plenty more of this sh*ts, what? why should i download this? Is it really necessary to have that all? I hope i'm not alone, who's getting angry while waiting about 3 minutes to download all of this "important" files.. I've seen some servers, where i just downloaded map and went to play.. but it's rare like opening knife.. everytime i have to wait like 3 minutes to download all of these..:( just please, stop forcing us download these unnecessary models and textures or whatever is it.. NOBODY wants it.. thanks..

Cheaters losing is so satisfying

Posted: 03 Apr 2017 08:33 AM PDT

I just did an overwatch and this guy was spinbotting and using other hacks. Anyways, he was killing everyone then someone random non-hacker on the other team killed him! At first i thought he wasnt going to die again, but then he did! It was 11-13 against him and he went all out. This was getting intense for me. 1 v 4... He totally destroyed 3 with insane juan deages before being in a 1v1 with the final ct. The bomb was down and the suspect and went to recollect it. Even though he knew were he was and he had a spinbot, the ct won and ended up winning the game. That was so satisfying to watch a hacker get beaten xD. #OverwatchMonday ??

If you listen closely in dead talk, you can hear blu's voice when Brehze talks. I know there is a delay, but it can still be used to see the economy and spots played. Sad part is that if we can hear it, his team can hear it in Mumble and they are going along with it.
