Posted: 27 Apr 2017 02:53 PM PDT Civilization VI, it is my understanding, is pretty revolutionary when compared to its predecessors, in that now, the majority of buildings must now actually be constructed on tiles within the city borders, rather than on the city center - Districts, for example, didn't used to be that way. As a newcomer to the Civ series, I've never played without this feature, but I can understand what a big shift that must be. And the coolest example of this new design philosophy is in the Wonders. Structures of monolithic proportions, Wonders represent some of the greatest triumphs of human ambition and creativity throughout all of history. Whenever I go look at one in a city that I've built, my chest swells with pride, and in my opinion, they're one of the easiest ways to "mark" a city - "Oh, that's where I built that wonder." I'm the guy who built that city with Sixteen Wonders by the way. It's starting to be a problem, and I have to stop. But addiction can be a powerful thing. I'll take pretty much any excuse to listen to more of - and I quote - "Sean Bean's buttery voice" and Wonders are a good excuse as any. Not only that, but it gives you the rare opportunity to view your city panoramically, and without tile borders or resource symbols, making it feel all the more alive. I love the way it shows off Civ's Day/Night cycle engine. The cinematic represents, in my mind at least, almost as big a reward as whatever special benefit a wonder happens to grant you. Listening to snippets of music from throughout human history has really whet my pallet for more - it's kind of fiendish that Firaxis didn't include any kind of appendix for the music that goes along with these. I can't get the snippet from Mont St. Michel out of my head, and I'm dying to hear the full version of Ruhr Valley's theme. Like I said at the beginning of last paragraph, Sean Bean's narration is on point for the wonders, and the quotes for (pretty much) all of them (except for Chichen Itza) is great. They range from the most eloquent ("All are one at Mont St. Michel") to the whimsical ("The intelligent Mister Toad") to the wryly self-aware ("Right boys, another twenty like that, then we can party!") To the humorously, and almost deliberately obtuse ("My Ancestor Darius made this Apadana"). I like wonders because they make me fall in love with the human race again, in a time when I'm feeling more and more cynical about human progress. We stand poised on the brink of eternity, with new modes of transportation that could carry us to the stars and beyond one day, and allow us to communicate with people on the other side of the planet as though they were in the room with us, but weapons that could send us back to the stone age are in the hands of our ambitious and powerhungry rulers. It's a scary time to be alive, and an easy time to be cynical. I love wonders because they remind me that the human race is capable of something better than war and destruction, and help me look forward to the next wonder we'll build together. What do you wish you knew before starting Civ VI? Posted: 27 Apr 2017 09:26 AM PDT I started my download of it this morning and will start playing for the first time when I get off work today. What do you, oh wizened veterans, wish you knew before starting? I have logged hundreds of hours in Civ V, how much of that will translate? [link] [comments]
What the hell is wrong with Cleopatra's AI? Posted: 27 Apr 2017 10:01 AM PDT I understand the AI is awful in this game, but Cleopatra is particularly problematic. She's the only AI that has ever offered me a joint war. She gave me a ton of shit just to go to war with Rome on like turn 25, and a few turns later she declares war on me as well. She's not satisfied unless the whole continent is at war with me. She's so much worse about forcing wars than other civs that are meant to be warmongers like Alexander and Cyrus. Basically if I'm her neighbor I lose. She forces everyone around her into war and causes them to fall behind civs not cursed to be near her, even if it means being at war with like 4 neighbors and wiping herself out. Is there something wrong with her war parameters like original Ghandi? It's happened far too many times to be coincidence. I can have a huge net positive in diplomacy with her and she will still deny my delegations and declare war on me before she even has an army. I don't have this problem with any other Civ. They tantrum a lot but nobody is anything like the nightmare that is AI Cleopatra. I'm about to just disable this bitch because she's ruining the game for everyone near her. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2017 02:57 PM PDT Hi, I see this game talked about everywhere but I'm pretty poor, is it worth getting Civ V still or is it too outdated now, and i should try save up for Civ VI? thanks. [link] [comments]
My Mission to Mars in 5 turns! Posted: 27 Apr 2017 09:06 AM PDT Late to the Australia party, I'm making friends with Teddy and trading blows with Catherine. Saladin's sitting in the corner with Pedro and they're denouncing me all the time for my war-like ways. Things seem to be going well, until I scope out the next continent. It's much bigger, and Tomyris has been busy, owning more than half of it and getting more of it as the turns roll on. An uneasy peace follows, my sciences florish while my culture dwindles. Tourists are leaving, and they're all going to Scythia who's halls are decorated with pillaged art from her wars. Things look pretty grim, my spaceport finally finishes, my Atomic Era Great Engineers have been sitting around for decades waiting to get to work (probably vacationing in Scythia those bastards). Maybe a dozen turns from Tomyris cultural victory, I use my great engineer to make it so I get more production out of space race (and I've got the policy to help out too). To my surprise, my engineer is still sitting there after I use him. I'm not sure what bug this is, but after I use him again, I see that I've got 215% bonus production. I bring my second engineer in, and he immediately launches the satellite, and now I look and see its 1 turn for a moon landing? And he's got another charge too! After the moon landing, I start the mars projects, and pop him again. Launching one immidately, and a 1 turn clcok for the next one, then the next one! Colonizing Mars just a few turns before Scythia's crushing victory. I looked into the how after the fact, and here it is: Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was added with the recent Persia pack, its a harbor adjacent wonder that gives a Great Admiral. The fun part, Great Admirals AND Great Engineer's get an additional charge. This means Great Engineer Wernher von Braun can give you 100% bonus Space Race production twice! So that's that's a little over 31000 production from Great Engineer Sergei Korolev. Use this fun trick to go from 0 steps of science victory, to finalized science victory in a handful of turns, startle and amaze your friends, or crush the AI on deity. [link] [comments]

Why do the AI still let settlers wonder after 3 patches? Posted: 27 Apr 2017 07:26 PM PDT As a mac user I just updated a few days ago. Noticed the AI still doesn't know what to do with settlers when they can't find land. Not even sure I said that correctly. Its like the they over build settlers and then run out of room and just let them dangle around. [link] [comments]
Civ 6 industrial age and later: make or buy? Posted: 27 Apr 2017 01:16 PM PDT I'm wondering if building things that can be bought by either coin or faith is still a thing in the later game. I'm on Prince difficulty and even with industrial districts maxed out and Harbor/Encampment providing +% production bonuses plus city state bonuses, it still takes a pop 20 city ~15 turns to build advanced military units. When I compare that to a 400 gold/turn income when I haven't even pulled all my commercial hub options, spending ~1500 gold every 4 or so turns just lets me question whether it's sensible to build "buyables" at all at this stage of the game. Add Theocracy to the mix and you'll also get to buy units with faith (currently at 130 faith/turn). So, do you make or buy? [link] [comments]
Would you recommend Civ VI in it's current state? Posted: 27 Apr 2017 04:27 AM PDT Long story short, I'm quite low on cash so I can't decide if I want to buy Civ VI or get DLC for Stellaris. I liked Civ V quite a lot and I'm loving the new artstyle of Civ VI, but I'm reading a lot of mixed opinions on the game. Everyone always says you have to wait till all the DLC is out when it comes to Civ.. Would you guys recommend it in it's current state? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Apr 2017 05:42 PM PDT I really need help with micro management in the late game, I'm in my 500th turn on a huge map and have to do so many things such as assigning spies, trade routes, city productions etc. So anyone got any suggestions? maybe even a mod that helps? Thanks [link] [comments]
