Looking for a really specific clip from HCS.

Posted: 27 Mar 2017 10:21 PM PDT

Hello everyone! I need help finding a specific part of the commercial breaks that happened between some of the HCS matches. The 'commercial' shows spartans getting ready for War Games. The spartans rise up from these platforms/elevators to enter the simulation. There's a spartan with red Athlon armor if I'm not mistaken, and a spartan with blue Recon armor. Does anyone recognize this? If so, that would be greatly appreciated!

About 5 years old, but this is the only rank that matters in Halo.

My opinion on Halo 5 and a new ranked playlist "Team HCS"

Posted: 27 Mar 2017 11:52 PM PDT

For Context: We have NEVER had radar in competitive Halo settings until Halo 5. Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Reach, Halo 4, Halo 2 Anv all had no radar in every variation of the competitive settings. Radar does not belong in competitive Halo settings.
Therefore:

Step 1: Take out radar.

Removing radar completely causes a few gameplay problems. These are not a result of removing radar, because removing radar has too many positive gameplay alterations. We look deeper. What are the problems? The gameplay is too hectic, and seemingly random. What causes this? The increased mobility. Of the increased mobility what allows you to move across the map at increasingly faster speeds but has no innate benefit? Sprint.

Step 2: Take out sprint.

Now getting around the map takes too long. Gameplay has slowed down. The maps are too large. Setups are near impossible to break. How do we fix this? Increase move speed, but this time lets increase the base movespeed instead of adding sprint. This will increase gameplay speed at a rate that of which sprint could never do. By increasing the base movespeed, you allow for players to shoot while moving. You also allow players to strafe and cause enemies to aim a lot better to actually hit their shots. All of this is beneficial to gameplay.

Step 3: Increase base movespeed.

Next we determine that players are still able to pounce on bases and know where the other players are even without radar. We determine the cause for this is communication and spawn predicting. This is good. This takes teamwork and game knowledge and allows players to use situations to their advantage to press a lead against the other team. Then an intern pipes up and informs me that grenade hitmarkers are just as bad if not worse than radar. He tells me that giving free information to the players is generally a bad idea. The player should have to work to earn that information. Makes sense.

Step 4: Remove grenade hitmarkers.

So far were happy with the progress. Players are starting to play the game again and talk is picking up about the next HCS season. Players are starting to search matchmaking in the new Team HCS playlist and we couldn't be more pleased over here at 343i. We take a day to pat ourselves on the back. In the morning we decide to contact a few of the pro players and see if there are any other changes that could be made to further improve the game. At 4:45 PM Aaron "Ace" Elam finally wakes up to a missed call from our office. He calls back as were about to head out for the day, but decide to put in a little bit of overtime for our players. Aaron tells us about how automatic weapons, splinter grenades, and rifles on truth keep him up at night. We decide to call a couple other players to verify his statements. The majority of players have the same issues. We honestly had no idea! Evidently there's some sort of competitive community that exists on some beyond website or whatever that has been talking about this for a few years, but it had never reached us! I decided that enough was enough. They all had compelling arguments, so I got to work right away. I decided that removing autos just from the starting weapons would be too much. We should leave some on the ground as pickups. Maybe not too different than that of a plasma pistol. One per map should be fine.

Step 5: Remove automatics from starting weapons. Add an Assault Rifle to the bottom area of most maps. Remove Brute Plasma Rifles and Storm Rifles. Remove Splinter grenades. Remove Rifles from Truth or change their positioning.

Satisfied with my work for the week I decide to watch a few online scrims to see what players are thinking of the updates. All was well.

Halo 6 Theater thoughts

Posted: 27 Mar 2017 08:04 AM PDT

Now even on Halo 5 theater really hasn't improved much so this is just some ideas what could help make Theater not just more enjoyable but a make it more useful where those who are interested in making video content can't be just as into that material as our new forgers.

Key Frames: This would be great for a lot of cinematic shots and really bring Halo editing to a new front.

Markers: So we can mark a point in the video and use it as a reference to come back to a certain point.

Effects: Able to toggle in game effects or even layer them.

Lens Flare: Nothing to crazy but something to add picture value

Text: Personally adding a text layer of halo fonts would be incredible. UNSC Font, Sangheili and Forerunner would've crazy.

So I know all this is a bit of wishful thinking but just adding the ability to improve Theater mode in general would be welcomed. 343 had already improved Halos combat while improving the Forge capabilities tremendously and I can't wait to see what Halo 6 has in store for us all but an improved theater mode is one thing I really haven't heard to much talk about.

My dream multiplayer game mode

Posted: 27 Mar 2017 10:26 PM PDT

24 vs. 24, UNSC vs Covenant. Each side has a fortified base, each with its own garrisons, defensive structures, and armaments. You start the game as either a grunt or a marine, and you essentially level up through your performance as well as helping take objectives. As you gain more rank, you can gain access to new playable units such as a jackal sniper, an elite ranger, or an odst deploying on top of the war zone. The objective of the game is to essentially destroy the enemies base in a battle of attrition. The front line would be a large scale firefight, but would slowly gather in intensity as players gain rank and gain access to more powerful weapons and vehicles. In order to ensure the game doesn't end too quickly, each base would be heavily fortified with turrets, barricades, sniper towers, and anti air towers so it would feel like an actual engagement. There'd be npcs on both sides of the fight, similar to Titanfall where they aren't the main focus but could provide limited support as well as rank if killed. Of course this would most likely be impossible due to technical restrictions, but boy would it be cool.

Halo - hurt music video

Posted: 27 Mar 2017 04:05 PM PDT

Proving Grounds radar changes are a huge step in the right direction. I am concerned that the playlist numbers won't show the appreciation, as I believe a large number of competitive players want to stay practiced with current radar. 343, please consider information outside playlist numbers.

So good for gameplay, but I fear it may get dropped due to this.
