This Week At Bungie 03/30/2017

This week at Bungie we've seen new beginnings.

The Age of Triumph has begun. The grand finale for your Destiny 1 adventure begins when you break the seal on your Record Book. Before we send you to new worlds to experience new adventures, it is altogether fitting and proper that we bring the journey we've shared these past few years to an appropriate close.

This is our celebration of your Guardian. This is your chance to define the full scope of your Destiny 1 Legend.

So, about those new adventures…

We teased Destiny 2.

We revealed Destiny 2.

It feels so good to have started the conversation. We'll begin with a vision of the Destiny 2 story. The next beat to look forward to is the gameplay reveal on May 18. This summer, we'll need you to stand together in the Destiny 2 Beta.

There will be so much more to talk about all summer long. We'll be making appearances at events where we just might meet you. You'll find more waypoints on our roadmap as the journey progresses.

The road to launch on September 8 begins with a single step, and we took it this week.

On the Record

Every player needs an advocate – someone on the inside of the studio who's looking out for them. At Bungie, we have an entire team that does that, assuming you're willing to count the entire development team. While we're always listening, only Destiny Player Support can count that as their full-time job.

This is their report.

Patch Notes of Triumph
Today, we deployed Hotfix 2.6.0.1. This Hotfix made several minor changes to the Destiny player experience. Most notably, it removed the requirement to complete the Normal Mode version of a raid prior to being able to access the Hard Mode reprisal. Additionally, Knuckles of Eao may now be transferred between characters and the Vault.

For Hotfix 2.6.0.1 Patch Notes, please click here.

For Update 2.6.0 Patch Notes, please click here.

Record Book Notifications
We are aware that some players are receiving repeated notifications from the Age of Triumph Record Book. Upon investigating this issue, we have found that these notifications appear to be linked to having the Bungie.net Gear Manager, or similar third-party applications, open while playing Destiny.

Receiving these notifications does not impact progress in the Age of Triumph Record Book. To minimize these notifications, players may want to exit out of their Gear Manager or third-party application when they are not actively using these apps.

Retroactive Record Book
With the launch of Age of Triumph, all Destiny players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were granted the Age of Triumph Record Book. Many players have expressed confusion over which pages and Milestones look backward in time at a player's Destiny history. These Milestones are:

  • All Milestones on the "Commemoration" page.

  • All Milestones on the "Story" page.

  • The "Hold the Line", "Mountain's Summit", and "Secrets Learned" Milestones for reaching Level 40 with each Class.

  • The "Victory or Death", "Self-Sufficient", and "A Hard Lesson" Milestones for completing Crucible Subclass quests.

  • The "Historian" Milestone on "The Crucible" page.

  • The "Raid Insignia" Milestone on the "Raids" page.

  • All Milestones on the "Collections" page.

  • All Milestones except "Public Defender" and "Spelunker" on the "Wanderer" page.

  • All Milestones except "Efrideet's Regard" on the "Allegiances" page.

  • The "To the Lighthouse" Milestone on the "Trials of Osiris" page.

All other Milestones must be completed following this release of the Age of Triumph. In order to maximize all progress toward Record Book Milestones, it is best practice for players to log in with each of their characters after downloading the latest version of Destiny.

For more information on Age of Triumph, please see: Age of Triumph Guided Support
If you believe you have encountered an issue with Destiny Update 2.6.0, Hotfix 2.6.0.1, or Age of Triumph, please leave a report in the comments of our Vital Information thread.

Destiny 2 Revealed!

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 10:08 AM PDT

Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/45795

At long last, after months of speculation, Destiny 2 has been officially revealed!

Video Link

Thus begins the conversation about our next adventure together. There will be so much more to say before we reunite the Guardians to reclaim their city from the most dreaded threat it has ever faced. Fortunately, we'll have all summer long to dive into the details.

This is a new beginning for every player. We know you have questions about the worlds you'll explore, the enemies you'll fight, the powers you'll master, and (as Cayde promised) the loot you'll earn. All will be answered in the weeks and months to come. It should be a hell of a ride.

At this moment, our focus is the story we're telling in Destiny 2. Up next, we'll take a look at the gameplay. Your first opportunity to see Guardians in action will happen on May 18. We hope to have you all in the audience for the gameplay reveal livestream.

This summer will be your chance to get your hands on a controller. You'll be invited to help us prepare for the launch of Destiny 2 by joining an open Beta. Players who pre-order will be the first to jump into action, but we'll be calling on all Guardians to give their feedback.

There will be so many other stops to make on the road to September 8. The journey that leads to Destiny 2 will circle the globe and span the solar system. We've only fired the first shot.

Can We Please Stop With the PCMR vs Console

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 10:46 AM PDT

I get that the news is fresh and people are excited to play on PC, but it would be a real shame if this sub devolved into a PC master race vs console war. Please do not turn into constant gameplay tests showing fps and talk of how much more competitive pvp is on pc. I feel that this sub would really lose what has made it so successful. This sub has always brought all players together (PS4 and Xbox) and I just don't want to see floods of "Why aren't you playing on PC yet?" posts followed by a bunch of defensive comments. I really feel like these types of posts should be flagged and disallowed to preserve this place as an inclusive destiny discussion.

Prediction: The first raid of Destiny 2 will be in The Tower, like The Raid (movie)

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 06:44 AM PDT

I'm calling it now. The raid that is released with the base game will consist of you climbing the tower, fighting your way through waves of Cabal and other challenges, like in the movie, The Raid. Makes sense because:

A: The name.

B: It would be a really badass conclusion.

C: Imagine being in that central room of the tower, the boss comes from behind the door to Iron Banner, while you're taking cover behind kiosks and your former vaults. I think it would be good.

Thoughts?

P.S. This is all a joke but honestly it would be pretty badass.

[Spoiler] The sword encounter on the bridge is my new favorite raid encounter.

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 04:32 AM PDT

For those who do not know, once five Guardians are across the bridge, six swords spawn and you have to use them against several sword knights and some gatekeepers. The first time my clan did this we where very surprised but the encounter was so much fun. When I run Crota with people who haven't done the 390 version yet I don't say a word about it because it is awesome to discover it yourself.

Also props to Bungie for making the sword relevant in all encounters (except the abyss but whatever). The changes Bungie has made to Crota´s end have been really good and have made the raid much better:)

I hope D2 improves on D1 in the same way Titanfall 2 improved on TF1

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 06:53 AM PDT

I liked Titanfall 1's mechanics but it felt like the game was missing so much content. The same could be said about Destiny 1 for a lot of people.

I love Cayde but I want to see more of Ikora and Zavala as well.

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 09:21 AM PDT

Title pretty much says it all. The dive into Cayde-6's character with all his sarcasm, snark, and Deadpool-like qualities has been super fun and really start to bring more life into the NPC's.

But Ikora is suppose to be a former crucible god to the point where I'm sure Osiris still kicks himself (herself? itself?) for not bringing her into the fold. And I'm sure Zavala, as head of the City's defenses and Titan Vanguard can bring the pain. I mean, according to Ghost Fragment: The City Age 2, Lord Shaxx was running a shakedown racket for anyone who tried to step out of line with the Tower's guardians as enforcers. I can't imagine that Zavala didn't know about or wasn't signing off on Shaxx's dealings.

And now that Zavala's City, the thing that he was put in charge of to keep safe, is getting destroyed; I can only think of a mob-style Godfather with control over space magic and an army of god slayers is going to send more than just a subtle message.

Here's to us, the guardians who switched consoles.

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 08:36 AM PDT

This is for we few. We who fought in year one. We who took down Crota and Aetheon and Skolas in year one. We who then switched consoles and I don't mean PS3 to PS4. We changed from Sony to Microsoft or vice versa. And now, in the Age of Triumph, we will never have that sweet sweet full first page in the books. But we did it. And that's all that matters.

To anyone else stressing out over this as much as I was and lamenting it, I just want you to know, I was with you. This sucked for me. But then a friend says to me. "It doesn't matter. It's just pages in a book that doesn't know any better. We did it."And he was right. We did it.

So while the city burns, stop, find a bar with a working jukebox, and get yourself a shot of something good. The Cabal aren't going anywhere (lord knows they didn't for the first three years ;) And if you see me, give a shout. I love meeting people.

Here's to us. The Old Guard.

EDIT: Wow, this might be my first time reaching front page for a big sub like this. Thank you all so much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zp5W92tDkd8 Here's a thing I made for a giggle. Enjoy

Destiny 2 Confirmed for PC. Here's a site for those of you who want to build your own.

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 11:00 AM PDT

If you are interested in playing Destiny 2 on PC. I highly recommend you go HERE to buy your parts.

It is MUCH cheaper than buying any pre-built from any online or in person store and not very difficult!

Here is a video guide to help you understand how to build one and the ins and outs.

Edit: Also go visit r/buildapc if you're more interested in building one. Lots of great info and help over there if you have ANY questions.

Edit2: Helpful links

Edit3: Some very helpful tips from u/Tehsyr

Teshyr's Tips To Teach Guardians!

1: Create a budget for yourself, plan out what you want in your PC build that can remain in line with your budget.

2: Make sure the RAM and the CPU Chipset correspond with the socket types that the Motherboard has. DDR3 to DDR3 sockets, LGA 1151 CPU to LGA 1151 socket. (the item description will tell you the types.

3: Pcpartpicker.com is an excellent site. It's what I've used for my first build, and it's what I'm using for my second. The parts you pick will be saved on the build page, and subsequent parts chosen will correctly match what you have.

4: To save good amounts of money, look for parts that have free shipping or mail-in rebates. These definitely help in reducing the cost for your build.

5: Case size matters, and so does your Motherboard! An ATX sized Mobo is about the size as an Xbox One. A Mini ATX is considerably smaller, like the size of a Wii or a Wii U. If you buy a mini ATX case, you have to match it with a mini ATX Mobo. Motherboards also only have so much space, so a Mini ATX will have less slots for your components.

6: While I'm not very active on the subreddit, /r/buildapc is another excellent place to go for build help. If you have your build list, but unsure how good it is, bring it over to /r/buildapc and the people there will tell you their thoughts. They don't bite, they're very nice!

That's all I have for now guys.

Title. I was doing Axis today for some Isenfire Tokens and got the Weldfire Shader from the Axis chest. Honestly no idea if it's bugged or what.. But the weekly featured raid isn't Axis for a good 3 weeks.

New Crota Nighthawk Strat

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 03:54 AM PDT

Six of us went down into the pit, and once again rose up upon a hawk of starfire.

Lords and ladies of the DTG Court, I present to you a new Crota strategy that is easily the simplest and most effective method we found out in hours of play. We tried the Raze-lighter method, and found it too reliant on ping (RIP Aussie internet).

We attempted splitting our party between rockets on Crota and snipers on the Oversoul. We ran out of ammo, or when one had to run the sword, it went a little skew-wiff. However, when we realised we had two Hunters who could run Nighthawk, a thought occured. "Just let the Nighthawk down Crota! It's easy!" And so we did just that, one Crota downer, one swordbearer, and four snipers killing the oversoul. That was until we noticed something odd. Every now and then, the Oversoul would die immediately. We wrote it off as a bug rapidly, and continued. However, something caught one of our two gunners' eyes as they shot. They got two damage numbers, the Oversoul being destroyed immediately afterwards. Celestial Nighthawk was overpenetrating through Crota's head and into the Oversoul, killing it outright. With that out of the way, enjoy this brief, simple guide.

1- Prepare as normal, kill adds, move out, kill swordbearer, handle the boomers as your party sees fit, etc. Nighhawk uses Deadeye and Over the Horizon for duration of fight.

2- Once the sword user is in position, down Crota with rockets. get usual three slams in.

3- Back away from the Hive Prince. Nighthawk user pops Golden Gun during Oversoul animation.

4- Line up Crota's head with the Oversoul, just above the ledge for safety.

5a- Sword user runs towards Crota again.

5b- Nighthawk POW

6- 3 hits then retreat, using 6 snipers on the Oversoul at a time.

7- Watch Crota Crotate around the arena. Skip the Ogre rotation phase.

And there you have it. All it needs is a little timing, and for either two Nighthawk GGs, or one with a whole lotta orb support. Cleared it easily after that, treating the double knee as a single.

TL;DR Nighthawk Overpenetrates Crota's head and kills Oversoul for one free kneel.

This has been a VileThorn presentation.

Massive Breakdown of Crota's End Raid Weapons

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 05:56 AM PDT

Several things to note:

  • Classes are broken down into Impact sub-classes.

  • All Times-to-Kill are assuming Guardian has 200hp (max armor not including the effects of Max Armor Titans or Warlocks with The Ram).

  • All Pros and Cons are determined by comparing weapons within the same class, not by all weapons in general, and not by only the weapons within the archetype. If you would like a different or more specific comparison than what I have listed, feel free to ask and I can provide one in the comments.

Exotic Auto Rifle

Low-Impact

Nechrochasm

Pros - Very fast TtK with body shots (1.07s, 17 body shots to kill). Very high stability. High reload speed, mag size, and aim assist.

Neutral - Average recoil direction.

Cons - Low range.

  • Time-to-Kill: 0.87s (13 crit shots and 1 body shot), 1.07s (17 body shots)
  • Rate of Fire: 100
  • Impact: 2 (15 damage per crit shot, 12 per body shot)
  • Range: 19
  • Stability: 64
  • Reload Speed: 76
  • Mag Size: 54
  • Aim Assist: 75
  • Recoil Direction: 65

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 - Accurized Ballistics
  • Column 2 - Zen Moment
  • Column 3 - Fitted Stock
  • Column 4 - Cursebringer

Perhaps my new favorite gun for Crucible usage on smaller maps, the Nechrochasm is close to what I hoped it would be when it was first released. Thanks to coming out of the box with high stability and aim assist, and even an average recoil direction, it handles very easily compared to most 100/2 ARs. On top of this, the combination of Zen Moment and Fitted Stock means I have no problem running Accurized Ballistics for the bonus range and damage, both of which combine to give it a surprisingly long reach. I stay away from Aggressive, even though it decreases the time-to-kill, simply because it kills aim assist, range, and stability and I don't think it's worth it. Similarly. CQB Ballistics, while it makes the gun more stable, just isn't worth giving up the extra range and impact from Acc Balls. Now that the Cursebringer perk procs on all kills and not just headshots, I spray away and pick up collaterals and assists like it's my job, and I love it. I almost don't want to recommend this weapon because I hate the idea of exposing the secret of this golden nugget, but I feel an obligation to share the joy with the world. Definitely give it a shot, and let the screams of the cursed thralls surround your enemies.

Pulse Rifle

Very Low-Impact

Oversoul Edict - Arc Adept

Pros - Very high aim assist. Above average mag size.

Neutral - None.

Cons - Below average range and recoil direction. Low stability. Very low reload speed.

  • Time-to-Kill: 0.87s (3 bursts, 8 crit 1 body), 1.47s (4.33 bursts, 13 body shots)
  • Rate of Fire: 77
  • Impact: 4 (23 damage per crit shot, 16 damage per body shot)
  • Range: 33
  • Stability: 54
  • Reload Speed: 61
  • Mag Size: 30
  • Aim Assist: 82
  • Recoil Direction: 59

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 - Red Dot-OAS
  • Column 2 - Full Auto
  • Column 3 - Fitted Stock or Snapshot
  • Column 4 - Dark Breaker

If this gun had been brought back a couple months ago, it would have been extremely popular in the Crucible. A member of the previously god-like Clever Dragon archetype, the Oversoul Edict did manage to escape the mag size nerf that the CD and GoM were hit with, but it still suffered from the increased burst delay and reduced flinch, which has combined to take these guns out of the ultra-competitive meta. Like most guns in the archetype, the base aim assist is high, but the range, recoil direction, and stability are all rather low. While still useful in more casual Crucible, OE suffers from something that many of the Crota's End weapons are burdened with, which is the loss of a perk slot to a raid specific perk. In this case OE has the ability to shoot through Hive Knight shields, but this takes up the final perk slot. In the other three slots the options are decent but not amazing. Red Dot OAS is considered among the best sights for pulse rifles, so that's a definite plus, and Full Auto is a ton of fun on a gun with a RoF this fast. In the middle column, however, the choice between Snapshot or Fitted Stock is a lackluster one. I'd probably go with Fitted Stock for the small boost to stability, which translates to a tighter burst pattern, but some people seem to like the ADS speed boost given by Snapshot. Either way, this is a decent, but not great gun for PvP, and I'd lean towards using it in casual game modes only.

Hand Cannon

Low-Impact

Word of Crota - Void Adept

Pros - Very high equip speed and mag size. High stability. Above average

Neutral - Average aim assist and range.

Cons - Very low recoil direction.

  • Time-to-Kill: 0.80s (2 crits and 1 body shot), 1.20s (4 body shots)
  • Rate of Fire: 32
  • Impact: 68 (77 damage per crit shot, 51 damage per body shot)
  • Range: 25
  • Stability: 45
  • Reload Speed: 45
  • Mag Size: 12
  • Aim Assist: 74
  • Equip Speed: 89
  • Recoil Direction: 57

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 - SureShot IS
  • Column 2 - Zen Moment
  • Column 3 - Hammer Forged or Explosive Rounds
  • Column 4 - Phantom Gift

One of the few Crota's End weapons that doesn't have to give up a perk slot for a raid-centric perk, the Word of Crota has an interesting combination of perks that may actually make it quite for for Crucible use. In the first slot it has the ever sought after SureShot IS sight, the best you can get for a handcannon. In columns two and three I like the combination of Zen Moment and Explosive Rounds, and I've heard (although haven't tested personally) that ER combines with ZM very well, giving two boosts to stability for each hit. This is supposedly because the ER counts as two damage hits, one for the impact and one for the explosion, so ZM gets to activate twice for each bullet. In the last slot we have the perk Phantom Gift, which is basically just the year one precursor to Triple Tap, and works the same way. Not great for PvP, but better than nothing, even though it will be nearly useless with the giant base mag size of 12. Low recoil direction and aim assist means people who enjoy the Eyasluna's firing pattern will feel right at home with the WoC, but high stability and faster RoF make the gun a little more spammable.

Scout Rifle

Mid-Impact

Fang of Ir Yut - Arc Adept

Pros - High range, stability, and reload speed.

Neutral - None.

Cons - Below average mag size and aim assist.

  • Time-to-Kill: 1.00s (2 crit shots and 2 body shots), 1.33s (5 body shots)
  • Rate of Fire: 37
  • Impact: 48 (61 damage per crit shot, 41 per body shot)
  • Range: 75
  • Stability: 49
  • Reload Speed: 67
  • Mag Size: 15
  • Aim Assist: 50

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 - TrueSight IS or Focus Lens FLA5
  • Column 2 - Target Mark
  • Column 3 - High Caliber Rounds or Perfect Balance
  • Column 4 - Third Eye

Although the archetype itself isn't powerful in high level PvP due to the slow time-to-kill, this is actually one of the weapons I'm most excited to get to use again in PvP. Not only does it have a great combination of high range and stability for a scout, but the raid-centric perk is actually even more useful in the Crucible. Coming with a decent sight option in TrueSight, he second column has an amazing one off perk called Target Mark, which literally marks targets you have done damage to for a few seconds. Combined with Third Eye in the last slot, and you basically have a primary that is giving you a poor man's Keen Scout. On top of this, we have the option for either High Caliber Rounds or Perfect Balance in the middle column, so even though the archetype itself is weak, we have a wonderful roll to play around with. I personally would probably go with HCR, simply because to succeed with this weapon you'll need to hope your enemies miss their shots, but Perfect Balance is fine for anyone who doesn't want too much kick.

Auto Rifle

Mid-Impact

Abyss Defiant - Solar Adept

Pros - Very high reload speed. High aim assist.

Neutral - Average range.

Cons - Below average stability, mag size, and recoil direction.

  • Time-to-Kill: 0.90s (10 crit shots), 1.20s (13 body shots)
  • Rate of Fire: 88
  • Impact: 8 (20 damage per crit shot, 16 per body shot)
  • Range: 25
  • Stability: 44
  • Reload Speed: 85
  • Mag Size: 31
  • Aim Assist: 75
  • Recoil Direction: 60

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 - Red Dot-OAS
  • Column 2 - Hip Fire
  • Column 3 - Perfect Balance
  • Column 4 - Lich Bane

With another buff given to help ARs get back into the mix, it might be pretty tempting to take the Abyss Defiant out for a spin. The weapon itself is pretty middle of the road, with good AA but poor stability and recoil direction, and average range. The perks help a little bit, with tier one sight Red Dot OAS as a primary option, and a great middle tree perk in Perfect Balance. Hip Fire is an okay perk in the second column, but then we have a wasted slot with Lich Bane as the fourth perk. Long story short, there a both better and worse guns than this one to use, so maybe have some fun with it, but it's not going to be a meta-buster.

Shotgun

Low-Impact

Swordbreaker

Pros - Very high reload speed, mag size, and equip speed.

Neutral - None.

Cons - Very low range, max range, and stability. Low inventory.

  • Time Between Shots: 0.67s
  • Rate of Fire: 35
  • Impact: 40 (18 per pellet, 216 total)
  • Range: 9
  • Max Range: 18
  • Stability: 23
  • Reload Speed: 53
  • Mag Size: 6
  • Aim Assist: 65
  • Equip Speed: 89
  • Inventory: 29

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 - Accurized Ballistics
  • Column 2 - Grenadier
  • Column 3 - Hammer Forged or Lightweight
  • Column 4 - Final Round

Swordbreaker is a shotgun in the lowest impact archetype, similar to the Iron Banner's Proud Spire, or the Titan exclusive Immobius. Thanks to the terrible range and current special ammo economy, this gun isn't going to serve much of a purpose outside of cleaning up void shielded enemies in PvE. Accurized Ballistics will be the best option for the barrel perks, followed by Grenadier, and then either Hammer Forged or Lightweight. Hammer Forged will barely improve the terrible range, but it won't do much, and Lightweight will slightly increase your Agility, so choose whichever you prefer for your given activity. In the last slot Final Round will be great for when you're pumping shots into a big target, but not much else. This gun used to be great when it was hard to get void damage special weapons, but now that they're more common I don't see too many reasons to use it.

Fusion Rifle

Mid-Impact

Light of the Abyss

Pros - Very high mag size. Possibly glitched damage or charge rate amount. High aim assist.

Neutral - None.

Cons - Below average reload speed and stability. Very low range and recoil direction. 7 bolts to kill fully armored Guardians.

  • Charge Rate: 40
  • Impact: 68 (33 damage per bolt, 7 bolts to kill)
  • Range: 32
  • Stability: 41
  • Reload Speed: 61
  • Mag Size: 7
  • Aim Assist: 68
  • Recoil Direction: 42

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 - TrueSight IS or Red Dot-ORS1
  • Column 2 - Crowd Control
  • Column 3 - Skip Rounds, Speed Reload, or Enhanced Battery
  • Column 4 - Hip Fire

This gun is unique in terms of fusion rifles, and not in a good way. Despite boasting the fastest charge rate of any fusion in the game, it also does the least damage per bolt, a paltry 33. This means that against a full armor target in PvP, it's actually going to take all 7 bolts to kill! That's both absurd, and nearly impossible to accomplish outside of very close range, which relegates this weapon to troll status. As far as perks go it's not terrible, though, so at least it's not the worst of both worlds. In the first slot you'll probably want to choose between TrueSight IS for the boost to aim assist, or Red Dot-ORS1 for the boost to range. Keep in mind that all FR scopes have the same zoom of 1.5x, so you won't get more with either scope. Crowd Control is the only choice in the second slot, which isn't a terrible or fantastic perk, and then Hip Fire is a wonderful FR perk in the last column. In the middle column it's player's choice between Skip Rounds for bouncing bolts and more inventory, or Speed Reload or Enhanced Battery, neither of which are super appealing options to me thanks to the high mag size of 7. Stat wise, the gun is lacking in range, recoil direction, and stability, which means you're really going to be wanting to get up close and personal with your opponents or else you run the risk of not being able to maintain a tight bolt spread. The high aim assist will help out a bit, but this weapon may be better for people who have the skilled thumbs necessary to control a bucking fusion.

Rocket Launcher

Mid-RoF

Hunger of Crota

Pros - Above average RoF. High velocity and reload speed.

Neutral - Average mag size.

Cons - Low blast radius and inventory.

  • Rate of Fire: 11
  • Blast Radius: 68
  • Velocity: 72
  • Reload Speed: 71
  • Mag Size: 2
  • Inventory: 20

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 - Aggressive Launch
  • Column 2 - Tracking
  • Column 3 - Heavy Payload
  • Column 4 - Cluster Bomb

From the same archetype as the old Iron Banner's Tormod's Bellows, Hunger of Crota has a couple things that will probably turn people off. The first is that it can't get either Tripod or Grenades and Horseshoes, and the second is that the inventory size is low, sitting at 20. That being said, it does have Tracking and Clusterbombs, which are the distant second choice options to both of those, so it can at least be a little fun. In the barrel slot you'll choose Aggressive Launch for a boost to its low blast radius, and then Heavy Payload in the middle column for a second bump. I think this gun has more of a place in PvE than PvP, truthfully, but I could see it being used as a good weapon for Combined Arms or trolling control points.

Machine Gun

Very Low-Impact - Barrel Perks which increase impact have no effect on TtK, but Soft Ballistics can increase the crit TtK to 0.53s (9 crit shots) and the body TtK to 0.67s (11 body shots).

Song of Ir Yut

Pros - Very high mag size and reload speed.

Neutral - Average aim assist.

Cons - Very low stability, recoil direction, and range. Low inventory.

  • Time-to-Kill: 0.46s (8 crit shots), 0.60s (10 body shots)
  • Rate of Fire: 100
  • Impact: 25 (25 damage per crit shot, 20 damage per body shot)
  • Range: 10
  • Stability: 11
  • Reload Speed: 48
  • Mag Size: 87
  • Aim Assist: 65
  • Inventory: 15
  • Recoil Direction: 58

Recommended Perks:

  • Column 1 - Smart Drift Control
  • Column 2 - Grenadier
  • Column 3 - High Caliber Rounds or Hammer Forged
  • Column 4 - Dark Breaker

Simultaneously one of the most entertaining and infuriating archetypes of machine guns, the lowest-impact subclass combines the love of mowing down dozens of enemies at a time with the recoil equivalent of riding a bull. They received a small buff a couple patches back, but unfortunately they still are among the most unloved of all weapons in the game. The Song of Ir Yut has the benefit of having one of the largest magazine sizes in the game at 87, combined with a blazingly fast reload speed. Unfortunately the range, stability, and recoil directions are all exceptionally poor, and the aim assist only average, so it will take a skilled hand to wield this gun with any precision. In terms of perks you're not going to get much help there, either. Smart Drift Control will buff the recoil direction and stability a bit, but Grenadier and Dark Breaker will be of little help in the Crucible environment. High Caliber Rounds will be nice if you can ever bring the gun to hit a target, and if not Hammer Forged will provide a minuscule boost to the abysmal range.

390 Crota Visual Aid for Health and Enrage

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 09:06 AM PDT

Like I did a few years back, I made a visual aid for Crota's health based on the position of his health bar relative to the letters in his name:

http://imgur.com/a/IMHsv

This assumes a 400LL guardian swinging with RT/R2 only and without damage buffs. Still, this might help some LFG groups avoid accidental enrages with an expiring sword. He enrages at 20% health after 1.8 million damage, which is the front of the letter C in Crota (red line in the images).

Hope this helps!

Edit: I wanted to link everyone to this post from /u/3nippledman who gathered a lot of good data about damage by attack type and applied buff. Assuming 2.25 million total health, enrage after 1.8 million damage, and the health bar going from the lower left pixel out to under the 'o' in "of," you can estimate the health bar position by removing a percent of the total width from the bar equal to the percent of 2.25M total health for any combo you like to run :)

What if the Traveler is practicing Sword Logic all along?

Posted: 30 Mar 2017 05:28 AM PDT

A thought came to me today that I wanted to throw up for discussion. Back in the Taken King period I read on this sub about sword logic which, boiled down, was the theory where if you kill something more powerful than yourself, you inherit that things power. I'm sure its more complicated than that, but I think that's the gist of it.

Now what have we as guardians been doing all through Destiny 1? Taking out servants of the darkness of course! And by sword logic, becoming more powerful all along the way even up until taking out the Taken King himself. But wait one second, what are guardians actually? Just shells, dead things, filled with the light of the traveler and carrying around a Ghost which is a piece of the traveler. So its not us who are getting more powerful....its the traveler. This is where I had a moment this morning over coffee.

What if all along the traveler's purpose is to simply become the most powerful thing in the universe? It goes from planet to planet "gifting" each species with immense technological advances. This inevitably attracts the Darkness and the Traveler flees but not before a war is waged against the Darkness, slowly picking away at it each time, making the Darkness weaker each time.

I think we are just pawns in the Travelers games. I think that the Traveler wants to bring forward the most powerful and terrible forces in the universe so that we can defeat them...because that's how the Traveler feeds.

Thoughts? I'm just dying for some actual story progression : (

TL;DR: The traveler is using us to consume more and more powerful things so that the traveler eventually becomes the most powerful being in the universe. We are screwed.
