Gold sink for Charity

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 12:45 PM PST

I had this idea that I think a lot of people would like, and even blizzard would appreciate. If there was a well, or fountain that people could throw gold into, and for every; let's say 10,000 gold, blizzard gives $1 to charity. I think this would be such a good gold sink for the game, and it would be for a good cause. Also every time when a milestone is reached, a blizzard employee could do something silly, like when 100 billion gold is taken out of the game, Ion Hazzikostas could get dunked in a tank, or Tom Chilton gets a tatoo, or other fun milestones. What does everybody else think?

Edit: It seemed like some people are upset that Runescape had done this and I haven't given them credit. I know they did do this, but I thinking that if WoW had done this, it could be just as successful as Runescape did.

AP and M+ Keystone PTR Changes

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 01:22 PM PST

Source:

We've got another heavy content push to the PTR this week, so here's a quick rundown of the biggest things you'll see available for testing:

We're ready to start testing flying on the Broken Isles, as well as the quest chains to earn your Class Mounts. The actual processes to unlock these features are still in development, so for testing purposes, we've added a temporary NPC in front of the Menagerie in Dalaran that will grant you both parts of the Pathfinder achievement and start you on the quest to earn your Class Mount. Please let us know if you encounter any areas around the Broken Isles where flying isn't working properly (e.g., getting dismounted in midair), or if you have any issues with the Class Mount quests.

7.2's new 5-player dungeon – the Cathedral of Eternal Night – is open, and should be available for testing in its entirety. Please let us know what you think!

This build also has a significant number of changes and improvements to the Mythic+ system: Mythic Keystones can now direct you to three new dungeons: the Cathedral of Eternal Night, Upper Karazhan, and Lower Karazhan. Several new affixes have been added to the mix: Bursting, Fel Explosives, Quaking, and Grievous. Bolstering, Necrotic, Skittish, Fortified, Tyrannical, and Sanguine have been adjusted, and Overflowing has been removed. Some boss and trash mechanics have been adjusted (for example, Seagulls will now grant Enemy Forces credit in Eye of Aszhara). For PTR testing, Flaskataur in Dalaran will sell a Keystone Container, and affixes will be on a 4-hour rotation (instead of weekly).

On top of those changes, we've re-adjusted the way that Artifact Power is awarded from running Keystone dungeons, with the goal of better rewarding you for the time it takes to complete each dungeon. Longer dungeons such as Halls of Valor will now award a proportionately higher amount of AP, and shorter dungeons such as Maw of Souls will award proportionately less.

In addition, we've added an Artifact Power bonus to your weekly chest, which increases based on the highest level Keystone you completed. You'll earn the largest AP bonus for completing a Level 10 or higher Mythic Keystone. Our goal here is to shift the AP rewards from Mythic+ slightly more in favor of completing higher-level Keystones, and less toward endlessly farming lower-level ones. This should also greatly increase the amount of Artifact Power you can earn on alts without requiring as much direct time investment.

Notably absent from this build are the new Broken Shore World Bosses, as well as a few improvements to the process of acquiring Legendaries. We'll have more details on those changes as they get closer to implementation.

Happy testing!

Source: AP/AK Scaling in 7.2

I just posted this in a thread on the EU PTR forums, copying over here for visibility:

The 7.2 Artifact Knowledge and Artifact Power curves that have been datamined are not final - what you're seeing is just temporary values. With those temporary values, the increase from Artifact Knowledge scales linearly, while the Artifact Power required to purchase the next trait increases exponentially. This makes it seem as though the new traits are intended to require far more effort to earn than was the case in 7.0, which is not the case.

The PTR build coming today doesn't yet have the correct numbers, but next week's build should. At that point, you should see a much lower expectation for how much effort will be required to unlock the new traits.

Edit: Added bolded emphasis.

Edit 2: Added side note and post regarding AP/AK Curve

Summary Discussion Points - TL;DR

  • 3 New Areas for M+ (Kara Lower/Upper and the new Cathedral dungeon)
  • Overflowing was regarded as a super easy affix, this was removed
  • Bolstering/Necrotic/Skittish/Sanguine were adjusted - Fortified and Tyrannical also adjusted.
  • Neutral mobs like "(&*DSJ87 Seagulls grant credit
  • Rebalance AP for longer dungeons, less AP for shorter ones like MoS
  • Keystone Weekly chest grants a large amount of AP for highest completed.
  • Legendary Acquisition Adjustment details pending
  • AK Value/curve not set in stone, intended power gain is similar to current 1-54. (ROFLOL 1000+ M+ Er mer gerd - grindfest legion)

Weekly AP caps is a horrible idea, please don't make it a thing

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 05:56 AM PST

More and more people are asking for weekly AP caps to counter the insane grind coming in 7.2 but does anyone actually remember how much weekly caps sucked? Just look back at the Illidan quest grind if you've forgotten.

What would happen then is that everyone would feel compelled to grind a certain amount every week to be at the level everyone else expects them to be at. That amount would also have to be decently high in order to not make the artifact traits completely pointless. The burnout would be real and apply to less than hardcore players now as much as it's currently doing to the top tier guilds.

Head's Up: The Spirit of Eche'ro archeology quest is up (it's on a 6 month rotation)

Posted: 14 Feb 2017 11:19 AM PST

I saw a prediction that the quest would be up on Feb 28th but it's up now (Feb 14th). Figured anyone who is focusing on archeology will probably already know this but if you haven't done much arch yet or weren't aware of the mount, now's your chance!

Like all archeology rare quests, it'll be up for 2 weeks. You'll need to get 600 bone fragments in Highmountain so it'll take a little while (helps if you've already completed Highmountain and have flight paths). Happy hunting digging!
