Posted: 10 Feb 2017 04:25 PM PST Hey guys, I'm one of your 14 new moderators! Too many. We're all very shiny, fabulous and glorious! Plus we're new to moderating this subreddit, so if you think we're doing something wrong feel free to tell us. But for fun, the mods and I have decided to do an AMA. We're not worthy of an AMA, but we thought it'd be fun. So, you're allowed to ask us any question that isn't too inappropriate. And yes, even silly questions that aren't related to the subreddit!
That's basically it! Most questions by other moderators will be answered tomorrow! And for the sake of the AMA, please don't answer questions if you aren't a mod. [link] [comments] |

[SPOILERS] Regarding the Old Woman's Voice in The Switch Trailer Posted: 11 Feb 2017 06:40 AM PST I was watching the trailer for the bazillionth time last night and had a thought pop into my head once her voice came on: what if she is Zelda 100 years later, when Link wakes up? Maybe the voice from the sheikah slate is her memory? Sorry if someone's posted this before, and please let me know if there's something that says otherwise. [link] [comments] |

Impressions on Breath of the Wild from the preview event in Washington, D.C. Posted: 10 Feb 2017 07:13 PM PST After watching so much footage of this game, I decided that I'd try and do some things nobody else had done to try and answer some question I had about the game myself. I'll try and give you some new information you may not have seen elsewhere. First off, perfect blocking. This is done by locking on and pressing the A button. I couldn't find that online anywhere. The timing on this move is absurdly strict. You need to press the button at the exact moment the enemy move strikes, or you'll get stuffed. I'd go so far as to say that it felt frame-perfect. The same could be said for the Flurry Rush. Dodging backwards THROUGH a swing does not grant i-frames or activate Flurry Rush; you just get knocked out of it. You have to make sure you're not hit by the weapon. The distance, and timing, on this must be very strict as well. Dodging does not grant i-frames in the early moments of a dodge. You must physically move away from attacks, unlike the Souls games, where you can move through them. I headed into some areas in which the framerate was trash in the E3 2016 build. Specifically, a lake in front of a bokoblin camp alongside the rim of the map, down near Stone Talus (which is his name in the new build). I'm happy to report that frames did not drop in this area (in some videos, the framerate dropped for upwards of 10 seconds at a time during the E3 build at this area). The framerate dropped, however, for roughly 5 seconds near the area where you pick up the Woodcutter's Axe, by the Old Man. It eventually leveled itself out, and performed well for the rest of the session. The game does not look washed out. It looks very crisp and clean, and any "grey filter" you're seeing is the result of hazy weather in-game. Aliasing is not a major issue. There were some jagged edges, but I also believe this was due to a HORRIBLY calibrated TV at the event. I'm almost certain that sharpness was cranked up to the max. The image looked clean the entire time. Texture filtering is straight-up bad. This was one thing I wanted them to improve, but it seems to be unchanged. Draw distance is fantastic. I could see the propellers spinning on the bird guardian, and even small holes and embroidery on the lizard guardian. Could also see the glowing patterns of distant towers (rather than just a solid stick of yellow, it shows the wavy pattern itself). There wasn't much distant clutter, but textures maintained decent quality at VERY long distances. Any swing can be cancelled into a spin attack with one-handed weapons, by inputting the classic Zelda "spin the stick and attack" move. Attempting to spin attack while out of stamina causes Link to stumble and have trouble getting back up. Don't do this, especially not in combat lol Stamina was only an issue while climbing, which is what it's supposed to do anyway. Link moves at a steady pace without sprinting (comparable to the other games, and nobody complained then), and sprinting is best used for movement in combat (to grant access to the dash attack) rather than for traversal, especially since you get a horse. You must hold down left or right on the d-pad to bring up the quick slot menu, rather than toggle. Lock-on also requires holding, but can be changed from the menu. If anyone else has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. [link] [comments] |

Feelings about The Wind Waker? Posted: 10 Feb 2017 10:48 PM PST I've been seeing a lot of hate for The Wind Waker online in the comments of series rankings. Sure, the sailing can be boring or bothersome… but the story is otherwise solid and the graphics are gorgeous. Am I missing something? Please share your thoughts. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Feb 2017 10:05 AM PST I'm asking this mostly due to the second game in the series, Adventures of Link, and looking over at the timeline which is the last game in the Failed Timeline. (So OoT -> LttP and the handheld games with the same Link -> Zelda I -> Zelda II (with the same Link as the original game) In that game, you're attempting to wake up the original Princess Zelda (and a different one from the original game), who all other Zeldas were named in honor of. So...yeah. We've got Zeldas that predate the monarchy what with Skyward Sword. So where is this one from? Is it that one? Or is it another one that predates OoT and that means there's a slumbering Zelda under the sea in WW? [link] [comments] |

Less experienced fan here with a few questions. Posted: 11 Feb 2017 09:36 AM PST I've definitely played several Zelda games, but I have never finished one. About how long are they? More specifically, how long can we expect Breath of the Wild to be? Do Zelda games have any sort of replayability? I'm buying a Switch specifically for Zelda. I'm way too excited for this game. I'm just hoping it makes good use of the console until Mario comes out. Cuz right now Zelda and Mario is all I care about. I may look into Splatoon 2. [link] [comments] |

Ocarina of Time Group Speedrun Drinking Game Posted: 11 Feb 2017 09:00 AM PST One of the things I've dreamt of would be a speedrun challenge among friends where everyone sits down together on different systems and races to beat Ocarina of Time or another favorite Zelda title. Recently I've thought about how diverse the levels of Zelda experience in a group of friends can be, and how an adult audience may use drinking game rules to level the playing field, or make the experience more enjoyable and less predictable for all adult participants. Some possible rules I've thought of:
For discussion: Have you or your friends ever tried something like this? What did you do? How did it turn out? What other rules do you think would work well? Please drink responsibly when drinking. [link] [comments] |
