Minecraft - Resource Packs, Custom Models, and Skins

Resource Packs, Custom Models, and Skins

Posted: 21 Feb 2017 01:42 PM PST

The topic for this week is Resource Packs, Custom Models, and Skins.

It's been over a year since we last discussed this, and there has been a lot of activity in this area. So let's hear all about the tools, techniques and resources for building custom models, resource packs, and skins. Post your questions, show off your creations, recommend the best guides and tutorials.

What is this?

Every week(-ish) a new thread will be posted and stickied by /u/AutoModerator. Topics will usually cover things that, if posted on their own, would receive little attention and clutter up /new. By bringing these threads together, we hope everybody has a better experience. We've come up with a few topics on our own, but we'd also like feedback from you. Are there any other topics you'd like to see added to the rotation?

Vanilla Minecraft Backpack Solution - no new items needed!

Posted: 21 Feb 2017 04:04 AM PST

Greetings Minecraft reddit! o/

My name is Rendog, proud member of Hermitcraft and long time Minecraft Youtuber! I've had an awesome idea that I'd like to share with you all today.

A 'backpack' item to store and carry more blocks in the inventory has often been proposed by players, and I've come up with a way to add a backpack option to Vanilla Minecraft without having to add a new item into the game!

With the recent (and insanely awesome) addition of Shulker Boxes to Minecraft, we now have have a way to sort and carry large amounts of items in our inventories by using Shulker Boxes as backpacks - however, there's still the slight inefficiency of having to place your Shulker Box, open it and then break it again to use it as a 'backpack'.

As the Shulker Box has organically become a backpack for players, my idea is to improve and perfect this functionality rather than adding a new item into the game.

My suggestion is for the Shulker Box itself to act as a 'backpack' item in the hotbar!

Here's how it would work:

  • If a player right clicks air on a Shulker Box in the hotbar, the Shulker Box is opened and becomes accessible as if it were opened when placed on the ground

Example: Imgur

Why is this awesome?

  • No need for any new backpack item / recipe
  • Makes use of and improves an already existing item
  • Streamlines Shulker Box management ( instead of place box, use box, break box)
  • We could open Shulker Boxes while Rocket Flying!
  • Improved inventory Management
  • Shulker Boxes become even more valuable, encouraging players to get to the end game and stay there

So that's my suggestion solution for backpacks in Vanilla Minecraft - what do you guys think?!

Hey guys, do you think that it might be a good idea to create a replica of the Earth in Minecraft?

Posted: 21 Feb 2017 07:40 PM PST

I have this idea for a map that shows the entire world, with all seven continents, plus villages in where cities are supposed to be, three woodland mansions per continent, three ocean monuments per ocean, 10 desert temples per monument, 10 jungle temples per jungle, a stronghold under New York, Beijing, and Moscow. The Nether will be mapped like the Underworld, and the End mapped like the Moon. There will be a massive Nether fortress system spanning across, as well as random End cities splattered across the End. In addition, rivers will flow as they are right now, and I can release a map combined with a mod pack that is basically different people can found kingdoms and empires, build, conquer, live a normal life, or basically just do whatever you want. What do you guys think?
