Reminder: Patch is on Wendesday, not Tuesday!

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 02:43 PM PST

As I have already seen some posts today referencing to tomorrows (Tuesday´s) patch, a quick reminder that the patch is scheduled for Wednesday, the 22nd of February.

Probably because of President´s Day in the US today.

Are servers being unstable, or is it just on my end?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 04:15 PM PST

I keep getting booted to character selection. It's like not a full DC, but it keeps porting me to different zones than I was in. It's always back to LA.

TIL why Knuckles is supposed to bite his tongue

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 06:05 AM PST

I am not a native english speaker and whenever Sabetha says to Knuckles: "Bite your tongue!" I thought she meant this literally. I always thought he would gain some buff, gain more power (ascending to the next powerlevel) or start a special skill whenever he bites his tongue.

However what this actually means is." Shut (the f*ck) up!"

Altoholic? World bosses dead because you didn't have the waypoint? Guild missions started while you're still walking there? Get those important waypoints with this updated map.

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 12:12 PM PST

Seventyfive, a GW2Navi user, recently compiled a walkable route to unlock waypoints for world bosses, dungeons, and guild missions. I've added their route to the zoomable map which you can use GPS to follow. Example screenshot.

The pink line is one you can follow in game, and you can click the green circles to check off and keep track of unlocked waypoints. Because you're only running through waypoints rather than map completion, unlocking these should be fast with movement buffs and skills.

[Meta] State of fluff/fun image posts (and removal thereof)

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 04:11 AM PST

In the span of 24 hours, I have seen two highly upvoted fluff/fun image posts removed from the frontpage of /r/Guildwars2/; one of them was mine "HORRIK UNLEASH THE CANONS" image pun with 450+ upvotes (that disappeared right from the top of the frontpage on Sunday) and the other was someone's "Rise of The Engineer" poster (that I cannot link to because I can't find it anymore but it was there this morning) with fun snarky balance discussion inside.

The images in question are not "memes" (as in: beaten do death images that have no connection to the game), and neither they are low-effort; they're original content specific to the game that resonates with the community and lets it move forward through hard times (read: pre-balance patch agony). For perspective, we have hundreds of almost identical "the community is awesome!" and "the developers is awesome!" and "I've done the thing that's been done millions of time since launch and it's awesome!" and "here's a single average screenshot I felt like sharing!" and "here's a feature that's being asked for every week and I didn't bother to search so here's a 10 word post about it!" posts, and their content is pretty much copy-paste and way more low-effort than photoshopped jokes, but they're regularly on top of the subreddit.

So, my questions are: what is the official stance of the mods on unique fluff/fun image posts, and what is the community's view towards fluff/fun image posts with the current subreddit's top content in mind?

Special Forces Training Area Upgrade Requests - Simulation Player and Food/Utility options in the console

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 09:41 AM PST

  1. Could we have the ability to create a "simulation" player that would only exist in the training area and that would allow us to select a specific profession and fit him/her with whatever gear and add-ons (sigils/runes/infusions) we choose? This would make it so much easier, cheaper, and much less time consuming to test builds.

  2. Could we have the ability to add any food or utility through the console rather than having to use our own expensive food and utilities?

[Suggestion] Revival Kit

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 01:05 PM PST

So like we all know, there are stuff like finisher and mail carier in the game, but why isn't there something like a revival kit?

What is a revival kit? A revival kit let you modify your ressing animations. For example, don't you want to inject a big giant needle on your downed or defeated friends or strangers on the ground with it to get them back to full health? (lol). There are quaggan finisher, quaggan mail carier, so don't you think it's gonna be fun if there's a bunch of cute quaggans ressing you? It could be cats, skritt, and other animals too...Or how about some hilarious pray dance moves to res someone haha...Imagine a bunch of people using revival kit to res you...

Anyways, revival kit will make ressing a lot more fun. People will res more and they will become better at ressing.

MAKE RESSING GREAT AGAIN! lol

2nd EU GvG Tournament In One Week!

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 06:54 AM PST

Hey everyone!

I'm happy to announce that the 2nd EU GvG tournament will be starting in one weeks time. You may remember last time me and my friend, Domi, made the GvG League/tournament on EU, which started back in October. This time will be slightly different as its only the tournament portion, and as such will only be happening on two days, Monday the 27th, and Thursday the 2nd.

The first day will consist of the group stage; we have two, 4 guild groups who will fight among each other to determine who goes to the semi-finals and finals, on Thursday. Each guild will fight the other 3 guilds in their groups, for a total of 3 GvG's (per guild) on Monday. The 2 guilds with the best score from each group will then advance to the semi-finals on Thursday, and the winners of those GvG's will be the finalists. We will also have the third place match between the two losing guilds of the semi-finals during or after the finals on Thursday. All of the GvG's on Monday, as well as the semi-finals and 3rd place matches will be best of 7, or first to 4 wins, and the Final will be best of 9, or first to 5 wins.

The guilds joining the tournament are:

Group 1: [LAYS] Pirate Chips (Current Tournament Champions), [iN] Infamous, [PPT] No GvG On Home Bl, [siK] Civilised Sharks

Group 2: [Ren] Relinquish, [Vng] Vanguard, [pV] Pure Voice, [War] Warband

Our Main stream, with shoutcasting, will be Expandas. There will be gem and skin giveaways during the stream on both days. The streaming schedule for Monday is:

20:15 [iN] vs [PPT] 21:00 [Ren] vs [Vng] 21:45 [LAYS] vs [iN] 22:30 [LAYS] vs [siK]

All times are CET (GMT +1)

There may be other streams during the tournament broadcasting other GvG's, I will update this post with that information if we get more streams. If anyone else would like to stream/shout cast feel free to send me a message. I will also make a second post after Monday with the results and the plan for Thursday. As always if anyone has any questions/suggestions, feel free to post below, or send me a pm. Thank you to all the guilds joining, and the support from the community. Cheers, and good luck next week!

They are aware of the high ping issue in EU and what you can do to help.

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 10:11 AM PST

Hello

So for those of you out of the loop, many players in EU from diferent countries with diferent ISP's have been reporting ping spikes that make playing the game annoying or dowright unplayable since the last patch. Check this thread and this one for more info on the issue.

Now Anet hasn't released an official statement yet and it might never do it but that doesn't mean that they are not aware of this problem.

A day ago someone posted this response from a GM where they tell him that they are aware of the high ping currently affecting many players in EU servers and are investigating. However, they still need to colect more data on the matter to be able to resolve the issue.

This is where everybody affected by this issue can help by sending a ticket to customer support through their website explaining this issue and then following the instructions that the GM tells you.

They might tell you to run "Game Advisor", a software by ncsoft that helps track connectivity issues and the more data that we send them the better I guess

I hope this helps you even if it's not a solution to the problem.

Constant skill-flashing and disconnect from server client [NA]?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 05:57 PM PST

More or less the title; is anyone else currently having terrible disconnect spam, over and over? Cant waypoint, cant load, none of my other applications are having issues, and my ping isnt spiking. Just losing connection ONLY to GW2 over and over again. Feb. 20, NA.

EDIT: I have just noticed it is fine taking my money for waypointing, despite me not actually waypointing. RIP Silvers.

Someone bought more than 4k Orrian Truffles

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 12:34 PM PST

I seem to be permanently stuck in queue. I'm sorry, team?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 07:54 PM PST

I decided to take advantage of the fact that you can queue for a game from anywhere, and queued up for an unranked game while in Lake Doric. I got a queue pop and hit accept, then dismiss, and waited for the game to begin.

And waited.

And waited.

Like five minutes later, the game still hadn't started and the PvP menu still said "Match is about to begin." I waypointed to the entrance of the map and the "accept queue" popup came up again - but the only option is to dismiss it.

Portalling into Divinity's Reach/changing maps does the same thing. Going to the character select screen and back does the same thing. Logging in and out does the same thing. It's been probably twenty minutes now, so I can only assume the game went on without me.

Why, game. Why?

When do I use certain builds on Ranger?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 10:40 AM PST

The title is basically my main question. I don't know when to use condi or power or healing. All I know currently is that condition damage ranger does more damage that power. But I don't really know when to use the different builds.

Base Guardian Deimos Kiter

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 08:41 AM PST

Among raiders, dedicating a single player to remain at range for the duration of this fight has very quickly become the norm for dealing with the "hand aoe" mechanic in the instance and it would appear that the community has collectively decided that none of the pre-existing meta builds are particularly adept at fulfilling this role.

The 3 pre-dominant classes used for this, however, are Druid, Tempest and Herald; all of which, in my opinion, have pros and cons but none of which seem particularly optimal for the job. Most groups just accept that the kiter is out of the main fight completely and that there is no need or, indeed, way for them to more actively contribute to the kill other than dealing with that single mechanic. Examples of this can be seen at the following links:

Druid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QclmMV8Isxs

Tempest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WpP2ITi5Ng&t=1s

Herald: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=154lm5Y28Ho&t=96s

I decided to do some theorycrafting and have come up with the following base Guardian build that I believe could fulfill this kiting role more optimally due to it's high health regeneration, sources of direct healing, access to blocks and damage mitigation and an ability to provide modest DPS to assist both with Deimos himself but also with Saul and Prides and can even help to CC Prides thanks to Chains of Light. The build has a number of other pros which I will go into more detail about.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQJArdlsAhqhY7QwRIwPEH1D1NAShYAPEBxUkDxTMFB-TxRBQBnSPAAeAAvb/BUqEcVK/Sl6PT4EAQKAz0bB-e

High health regeneration:

The build features a number of sources of health regeneration and is capable of averaging 1.5-2k health/sec in ascended Zealot's gear depending on Aegis stacking and commitment to self sustain.

  1. Virtue of Resolve (F2) in combination with Absolute Resolution (+25%) provides a 593 heal every 3 secs while also providing +15% Endurance regeneration.
  2. Mango Pie (food) provides 85 heal/sec in addition to +70 Vitality (+700 HP).
  3. Rune of the Defender (2) provides 2 secs of Regeneration every time you block (which is a lot) for a 568 heal and has no internal cooldown thus stacking in duration when you block multiple times consecutively.
  4. Symbol of Punishment, while ideally used as a source of DPS, can be re-purposed to heal yourself for 200 health 8 times over 6 secs for a total of 267 health/sec.

Direct Healing:

In addition to the high health regeneration, the build also has access to a number of large direct heals to help top you off when regenerating and blocking isn't enough.

  1. Shelter is a pretty decent self heal and also blocks all damage for 2 secs thus having extra utility to stack hand aoes and block the bubble attack.
  2. Merciful Intervention can be used as a spot heal, by not targeting an ally, and will heal for 3704 plus an extra 2454 due to the fact that it is a Meditation skill in combination with Monk's Focus for a total heal of 6158.
  3. Pure of Heart means that Aegis' will heal for 1263 whenever they block attacks and this build has plenty of access to Aegis both from the Guardian itself but also from Rune of the Defender (4).
  4. The Selfless Daring trait will heal you for 1365 every time you dodge which, thanks to Vigorous Precision and Purity of Body, is fairly often.
  5. Monk's Focus means that Smite Condition (16 sec cooldown) and Renewed Focus will each heal for 2454 and also provide some minor Fury uptime.
  6. Virtue of Resolve (F2) be activated for a 2552 direct heal plus 5 secs of Regeneration for a further 1420 heal. This can be comboed with Virtue of Courage (F3) for Protection, another Aegis and a 1263 heal and with Renewed Focus for another 2454 heal plus some Fury all while only briefing losing the passive effects of the Virtues since Renewed Focus will refresh them. This is a total emergency heal of 7689 plus an Aegis and 3 secs of Invulnerability.
  7. Rune of the Defender (6) will heal for 2242 every time you block an attack and has a 30 sec cooldown. It also triggers the 2 secs of Regeneration from Rune of the Defender (2) for an additional 568 heal.
  8. Unlike the Herald kiter, this build is actually capable of auto-attacking while kiting. Superior Sigil of Blood works well since the build has access to minor Fury uptime and maintains high Precision. 50% of your auto-attacks will heal for 577.

Access to blocks and damage mitigation:

If you're anything like my guild (Disorganized Crime [MOB]) and the POVs above, then you will opt to leave your kiter at range even when the bubbles spawn. This means that any self-respecting kiter will need access to a block or an invulnerability at least once every 40 secs. Additional blocks help to alleviate pressure from the spawning hand aoes.

  1. While traited into Focus Mastery, Shield of Wrath has a cooldown of ~29 secs meaning that it will be available to deal with every bubble other than either the first or the second which come in quicker succession. Additionally, the skill can be used while still moving and attacking and also blocks multiple instances of damage in case you time an aoe incorrectly and end up blocking one of those instead of the bubble attack.
  2. Aegis is a fantastic form of damage mitigation and can block any source of damage in the fight including the bubble attack if needed. With Indomitable Courage traited, you will passively receive an Aegis every 30 secs from Virtue of Courage (F3) and can opt to activate it to receive an emergency additional Aegis if needed. Thanks to Rune of the Defender (4), you will also receive an Aegis every time you use Shelter assuming you haven't already activated the bonus in the last 10 secs by blocking an attack since Rune of the Defender (6) also triggers this free Aegis.
  3. Renewed Focus is a 3 second invulnerability that can be used to stack hand aoes, mitigate damage, direct heal and provide Fury (thanks to Monk's Focus) and also recharge Virtues.
  4. Signet of Judgement is a helpful passive -10% incoming damage reduction with not much else to say about it.
  5. The build has access to a decent amount of Protection that can be received by activating Virtue of Courage (F3), using a Focus skill or successfully reviving a downed ally.
  6. Strength in Numbers increases your Toughness by 150 but must be coordinated with your tank of course.
  7. As a heavy class, your naturally higher Armor will mitigate more damage than that of light and medium classes.

Variants:

Depending on factors such as your tank's Toughness, your experience and proficiency at kiting and your desire to provide more or less DPS, the above build can be adapted in a number of ways. I've used ascended Zealot's gear stats in my healing calculations but any mix of ascended or exotic Berserker's, Zealot's, Cleric's and Magi's gear can be used with varying pros and cons and will vary upon your position on the above factors. Likewise, Signet of Mercy and Signet of Judgement can be swapped out for more aggressive options such as Bane Signet, Signet of Wrath or even Spirit Weapons. You could even swap out Pure of Heart for Empowering Might to increase personal Might and the brave among you, could swap Virtues for Dragonhunter for a DPS increase and access to Fragments of Faith.

Fin

In any case, thank you for taking the time to read this far down and I hope that the build provides you with some food for thought if nothing else but hopefully with a new build with which to spank Deimos. Discuss.

EDIT: For anybody who does like the build and would like to try it for themselves, I have posted in my guild's website forums for easy access here: http://disorganized-crime.com/forums/m/35566974/viewthread/29669633-base-guardian-deimos-kiter/page/1

So what Central Tyria map (barring Orr) is the worst at least as far as completion goes?

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 07:13 AM PST

Lornar's Pass is such a chore. Out of all the similarly-leveled maps it feels like it takes so long to complete. It's probably because of the geography to which I can't really blame the people behind it, but still. It's a long stretch of land with sporadically placed PoIs. I feel like it lacks the flow Timberline Falls have.

And I shouldn't even hate it as much since I hate "Dredge nest" minizones found in Dredgehaunt Cliffs and Frostgorge Sound, yet somehow it's Lornar's Pass that gives me the feel of "ugh, here we go again".

I've set all my sliders to their lowest settings and it still happens around major events.
