HERE YOU CAN GET RID OF ALL YOUR ANGER AND HATE.

CAPS ON AND LET IT ALL OUT.

JUST GET YOUR THIRD LUCIO PLAYER ICON DUPLICATE? GETTING PERMANENTLY KILLED BY THE MOST OP CHARACTER IN THE GAME? THERE'S TOO MUCH JUSTICE THAT RAINS FROM ABOVE? THIS IS THE RIGHT THREAD!

PLEASE STILL BE CIVIL, AT LEAST A LITTLE!

Sexual harassment in competitive (warning: language)

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 08:19 AM PST

This last week before the end of S3 has been one of the worst for me in terms of harassment. I talk in voice chat a lot and try to shotcall if no one else does because I feel as though a lot of people tunnel and as a healer I'm in the back and can see a lot more of the field. Let me share with you some of the things that have been said to me since I have been playing a bit more than usual since the announcement that S3 is ending.

The mundane: "Can I get some nudes?" "Hey, why aren't you in the kitchen making me a sandwich?"

The explicit: "Let me lick your gaping donut hole." "You're a small tittied bitch." "I bet you have a fat cunt."

I usually queue with a guy friend, and if someone is being exceptionally nasty they'll continue with comments like "Awe, little girl has to queue with her boyfriend." or "Can I get a turn at pounding that pussy, my man?

Has anyone else been harassed like this? If you have, what did you do? I try so very, very hard not to respond to people that say this kind of shit, so much that I'll leave voice channel if it gets really bad. I always block and report them after the match, but sometimes I just stop queuing completely because I'm scared that I'll get matched up against them again and I'll have to endure more. If you haven't been subject to sexual harassment, have you ever been in a game where someone was being harassed? Did you try to stick up for them or report them?

I always report them, but a lot of the time it's over voice channel so I don't have proof that they said those things, just my friend to back me up. Should I start recording my matches so I have proof? If I encounter this again, I can't send video over the in-game report, who do you think I should contact? I just know how bad it sucks to be subjected to this, and I really wish I could put a stop to it so other people don't have to put up with it.

EDIT: For those who are asking I'm NA PC at 3300 (diamond).

EDIT2: For all those saying "just mute", sure that temporarily fixes it for me. I always mute, report, and block. But what about when one of their friends decides to tell me all the comments his friends are saying, and then I have to mute them too? What about all the other people that could potentially be harassed by that person? What about the younger kids in voice chat who listen to harassment and decide that since the older players are doing it they should too?

EDIT3: Even if this was a topic every few weeks, who cares? There are new people to the game and new people to the overwatch reddit who may never have seen this. After reading some of the comments, it seems like some people are genuinely surprised that things like this occur.

With Season 3 ending tomorrow, I wanted to remind everyone something to help them.

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 12:12 PM PST

How are you today? Have you eaten today? Drank any water? Remember to get up and stretch your legs every so often.

Season 3 is almost done, did you meet your goals? Maybe you did, maybe you didn't. Maybe you found some new friends to play with and reached a new career high, maybe you didn't get as high as you wanted. It's all okay though. There will always be another season, a new chance to improve. When this season ends, a new opportunity will be there for you. It's okay to be frustrated, it's okay to be angry, but just remember:

Your worth as a human being is not tied to this game

I recommend that if you're getting frustrated, take a break. It's okay to step back every once in awhile. Your state of mind will remain constant if your environment is constant, you must remove yourself from the situation to alter your perspective.

Was that game you just had really tough, maybe someone wasn't cooperating? Get up. Walk away. Stretch your legs. Just do something else even if for a moment. If you lose a couple of games, maybe today isn't the day for you, but that's okay, because there will always be next season. You will get another try.

You are not a failure

And if you want to persevere, if you want to push on through the frustration. Remember to take a deep breath. I find getting a cold (and I mean cold) glass of water really helps keep my mind centered.

Good luck out there, and remember Rule 10: Let's all have fun and play together! Because if you're not having fun, what is the point?

TL;DR It'll all be okay, you will make it through this
