GlobalOffensive Esports Awards 2016

Posted: 20 Dec 2016 11:43 PM PST

Hello, /r/GlobalOffenders!
As 2017 draws near and Best of 2016 awards roll up, we want to present a new idea to you which we had in mind. Over the last couple of years, we saw different websites conducting their own yearly awards, however, not all of them were open to community feedback. That being said, we thought why not make it totally open for the community? After all, Esports exists for the community and there is no better feedback than the one coming from all of you! Therefore, we came up with /r/GlobalOffensive Esports Awards. /r/GlobalOffensive Esports Awards will exclusively serve as the community voice, so we would like you to vote for nominees of each category. We as the mod team will not offer any nominee(s), so it is entirely up to you who will get listed.

How does it work?

We will post a parent comment for each category. You simply reply to each of them with your nominations. If you like someone else's nomination you will be able to upvote that comment. The nomination with the most upvotes will take the win. The nominating and voting will remain open until December 31st, after which we will announce the winners.

Categories:

  • Player of the year - We have seen many players going up or down in their form, but there is surely one who left the best impression on you. Whether it is performance or fan based, feel free to nominate your favorite player of the year.
  • Team of the year - Esports is bringing entertainment to us each day. However, as with traditional sports, the competition wouldn't be as fun if there wasn't someone to cheer for. So, which team you are cheering for?
  • Event of the year - We have seen two majors and multiple big LAN events. Some of them were featured for the first time, while some are already long-standing. Nonetheless, one thing is certain - each of them has contributed to CS:GO's growth. However, only one can be the winner. Which one will it be?
  • Caster of the year - The best caster of the year is an award which might be hard to conduct. We are used to watching the casting duo's, but why not decide which one of them is individually the best to you?
  • Analyst of the year - Events have become unthinkable without them. Having the pause between the maps would normally mean taking a break, but no, it is actually a time to listen to our analysts. Breaking down the maps, tactics, teams and players to the simple facts is what we enjoy a lot. So, which one of them is the closest to your heart?
  • Host of the year - After having caster and analyst of the year awards we just couldn't skip the one for the best host. This award should include both desk and stage hosts.
  • The best competitive match of the year - Nominate for the best competitive match of 2016. This includes professional tournaments only.
  • Transfer of the year - We have seen many roster changes throughout this year. Yet, there must be one which, in your eyes, has made the biggest impact on the current scene in a positive way.
  • The biggest transfer fail of the year - Speaking of the best transfers, we can't skip the fact that there have been a lot of fails as well. Whether it was replacing one or two players, or releasing the whole line-up it is entirely up to you to decide.
  • Favorite game update - Many patches were shipped throughout 2016. Some of them were disputed, while some were praised. The personal opinions may vary, so we will try to get an average vote for the best update presented in this year.

Rules

  1. You can have only one nominee for each category.
  2. Do not post twice in the parent comments. If you do that, all of your posts will get removed.
  3. If you see that someone else has already nominated the same person/team/event, etc. that you wanted to nominate, please refrain from nominating them again.
  4. Please keep all discussion within the feedback parent comment.

Feedback

Since we will have parent comments for each category, you are free to post your feedback only inside the feedback's parent comment. This is our first time running /r/GlobalOffensive Esports Awards, so we are open to any suggestions and feedback. Keep in mind that every single post will count, as long as it is not abusive or inappropriate.

TSM should just drop out of CSGO

Posted: 23 Dec 2016 03:41 AM PST

They just have not been solid since they joined. They have been picking up the scraps lately and now they are under fire for misrepresentation of players and possible lies and pressuring its own players into lying with them. If I was Andy I would let them all walk and just focus on back to League. That is just how it looks to me right now but we will definitely see. Just my opinion.....
Edit 1: I am not saying TSM should permanently drop out but just temporarily just to let things cool down and re-enter with a stronger more thought out roster
Edit 2: Okay the Astralis argument isn't really valid with this post. Yes TSM did have what is now Astralis team and they did good but thats it. Since then TSM haven't done anything worth noting.
Edit 3: I am abandoning this post now since it turned into a mad TSM fan cesspool and people accusing me of joing the TSM bandwagon.

Solving the Problems Outlined by Scoots in the Letter to the PEA

Posted: 23 Dec 2016 12:09 PM PST

Not really in any particular order, but some are probably more important than others. Hopefully this encourages some kind of a conversation around solutions instead of just echoing hate and emotion.
  1. Remove Jason Katz as Commissioner, effective ASAP. Replace him by voting in a new commissioner who receives 5/6 (or even 6/6) of the total votes (3 from players, 3 from org owners).
  2. Players are given 3 votes. PEA is given 3 votes. The new commissioner has 1 vote and can/will break stalemates.
  3. Regular, recurring meetings with notes and attendance taken. Possibly shared with the public (when possible).
  4. PUBLICLY post the structure of the PEA, including committees, who sits on them, etc. VERY CLEAR roles and responsibilities throughout. #TRANSPARENCY
  5. Players are given a calendar of PEA related events, matches, tournaments, sponsor or media obligations, etc. and are allowed to compete in any other event, tournament, etc. outside of those pre-approved (via player council) dates.
  6. Outline, WITH THE PARTICIPATION of the orgs and the players, the short and long term goals, mission, and the vision for the PEA.
  7. All negotiations with external leagues/groups (outside of partnership/sponsorships) are to be done with members of the player council participating.
  8. Rules and operations manual typed up, agreed upon, possibly posted online for things like committee creation, procedures to follow, etc.
  9. Financial transparency to the players council representatives provided on a quarterly basis.
  10. Profit sharing tiered based on the success of the association and profits generated, with a guaranteed minimum to be used as a "bonus" in lieu of actual profits in the event that PEA is not profitable. This should be paid QUARTERLY.

Thank you, once again, SirScoots, for fighting for the betterment of the community.

Whether it be gambling or this recent PEA scandal, you have always been there to fight it with every breath. When I saw you were the one representing the players, it made sense to me. Nobody but you could fill that vital role. With all the hate that has probably been flung against you, and will probably continue to be thrown, I just want to say, keep fighting, we all love you!
