How Smite changed my life. A short story.
Posted: 18 Dec 2016 09:32 PM PST
I've played Smite since 2013 I believe. It quickly became my favorite game and I did something with it I never did with other games. I kept playing. I never got bored, it never got stale, I just loved it. Come time for my freshman year of college I was nervous because I was leaving the coop to go away to a place I was unfamiliar with. I didn't meet many friends my freshman year. I didn't go out much, I didn't party, nothing. One thing that I always had was Smite. So one day I queued up for a siege match and was placed with three other guys in a party together. As the game went on I was astonished with there sense of communication and team work with each other. Quickly into the match I jokingly asked if they were clones since they seem to have the same wave length. They thought it was funny and told me no, they were just brothers who really knew who each other played. I was so pleased to find team mates that had an understanding of the game since I was a diamond level player at the time. After the game I added all three of them and asked to queue with them. They let me and from then on we made it a habit to play siege every night. I kid you not we had a win streak of 35 or 36 games at one point. And the thing is we never went try hard. We joked off with old Arachne pulls through walls and such. We had fun doing it and they quickly became my good (internet) friends. It gave me something to look forward to in my boring life at university and I felt like I wasn't alone. (ps I didn't have a roommate). They would text me on holidays knowing I was by myself and on my birthday and just wish me the best. So after a while the idea of me going to visit them where they lived a state over started floating around. I know, at first it sounds like something from a dateline nbc case where a man gets murdered visiting some strange family. But then I talked and eventually booked a trip to spend my spring break with them. I flew up there and was greeted with faces to the familiar and friendly voices I've heard so long playing with. They loved me and I loved them. It felt like family that I had missed all this time. Needless to say I was sad going back to school. I felt like I belonged somewhere. Depression followed as I missed my "family" and wanted to go back to see them when school was out. So I was granted that wish and spent my summer up there with them. I felt purpose again. I was treated with respect and dignity that I so long missed. I loved every single day. And on one of those days I wondered if I could just move there. Clearly it was a wild thought. Moving to live with people you met online playing a game. But it felt right to me. So that is what I did. I transferred schools for my sophomore year and began a new life. Since then I have moved out into my own place here and am a part of the society. I have a job, go to school. I am loved. And not a day goes by I don't think of that one day. That one day I happened to queue for siege at the same time they did. And how I was placed with them. And how compatible we all were. And now we still hop on Smite from time to time to remember the good ol days and to pay tribute to the game that changed my life and others in a good way. I've thought about putting my story on reddit for a while now just in case any members of Hi Rez saw and actually read it they could know that what they do literally changes lives. So for that I thank you.

So since the Chaac AP volume was increased, can Lore Lady ap get the same treatment?

Like seriously, i would love to use the living shit out of that, but you can barely hear the voicelines, if at all. Its too quiet. #MakeLoreLadyapgreatagain. (ok not again, but make it great please?pretty please?with cherry on top?).

I'm watching these Saturnalia vods and the experienced is diminished by this new overlay. There was nothing wrong with the old one. My biggest gripe is probably the translucent blue and red lines behind the player names extending so far into the middle of the screen. And the names are all squished together on the sides. The old way just looked better.

Does anybody regret buying Lore Lady's AP?
Posted: 19 Dec 2016 05:55 AM PST
I've bought the Chaac AP, and want to buy another Odyssey item, but dunno which one. Maybe Gemini Agni? I don't play that much Agni tho... But the skin is good. It's this or maybe Lore Lady AP. It's cheaper and sounds fine, not the best, but I'll get the Izzy skin with it..

A guide to building magical gods
Posted: 19 Dec 2016 07:43 AM PST
I mainly play guardians, and occasionally mages if needed. It frustrates me when I see people using a perfectly good god with a poor build and failing because of it. I can't speak for physical gods because my ADC and Jungle main days were in S2 / the start of S3 and I'm not a huge fan of warriors but when it comes to magical gods I think I can provide some helpful information.
Base conquest Guardian build: Traveler's shoes, Hide of the Urchin, Sovereignty, Heartward Amulet, Winged Blade, Spirit Robe / Mantle of Discord
Base general Guardian build: Shoes of the Magi, Hide of the Urchin, Breastplate of Valor, Bulwark of Hope, Winged Blade, Spirit Robe / Mantle of Discord
tl;dr: Shoes of the Magi, Book of Thoth, Obsidian Shard and Rod of Tahuti are essential. Everything else is preference.
Hopefully this can help some people.

Guardians are amazing, they're my favorite class. However, they're often an unpopular pick because they don't do much damage. This guide can help with that to an extent, because the builds I use so some damage. Not quite enough to be able to win in a 1v1 against an enemy, but definitely enough to clear up low gods if your teammates need to back off.- Boots:
- On guardians, you will nearly always be picking between Shoes of the Magi or Traveler's Shoes. Before any of you stop and mention CDR boots, just understand that the rest of the build gives more than enough CDR and the early game power boost helps much more than you realize.
- If you're playing conquest you pretty much always get traveler's shoes. The move speed it gives you allows you to rotate easily and the heals / gold bonus can be really nice also. In the other gamemodes it's best to get Shoes of the Magi because you don't need to rotate much.
- Health, Defenses, CDR
- The rest of your build will be focused on these three things. Hide of the Urchin is one of the best items in the game and you can't afford to miss it. Always build it after boots, because it's important to start stacking early on.
- The next two items will be one physical defense and one magical defense. In conquest it's best to get Sovereignty and Heartward Amulet for the sustain and the auras that can help in team fights. In other gamemodes, it's best to get Breastplate of Valor and Bulwark of Hope. In all cases, if they have heals you should get Pestilence instead of your regular magical defense.
- Your last two items will be a bit more flexible. Spirit Robe is always good, but Mantle of Discord is worth getting if you're ahead. Winged Blade is also amazing, and Ritual Dagger can also be good if both your relics will be affected by it (e.g if you have Sprint and Shell).
Base conquest Guardian build: Traveler's shoes, Hide of the Urchin, Sovereignty, Heartward Amulet, Winged Blade, Spirit Robe / Mantle of Discord
Base general Guardian build: Shoes of the Magi, Hide of the Urchin, Breastplate of Valor, Bulwark of Hope, Winged Blade, Spirit Robe / Mantle of Discord
Mages
Mages are fucking awesome right now. They can do crazy good damage if you build them right.- Boots:
- Stacking:
- Damage and Pen:
tl;dr: Shoes of the Magi, Book of Thoth, Obsidian Shard and Rod of Tahuti are essential. Everything else is preference.
Hopefully this can help some people.

Stricter requirements for ranked?
Posted: 18 Dec 2016 11:59 PM PST
Seems like people who don't even know how to play are allowed to play ranked and ruin others experiences. Should there be stricter requirements, from more good mastered to a minimum time played in casuals in the specific game mode, what do you think?

I see how it is useful on gods like Freya and kali, but I honestly hate when a hunter uses it. What are your thoughts on hastened and what items do you guys not like ?

Suggestion: god rotation shows up for people with the ultimate god pack
Posted: 18 Dec 2016 05:18 PM PST
It's very inconvenient when me and friends are selecting gods, one of them want a recommendation, and they have to read off the gods they have. If I was able to see what gods are in rotation it'd save time. It'd also help when playing with randoms.

Official Eager Saturnalia feedback form
Posted: 18 Dec 2016 05:11 PM PST
Hello everyone it has been a long two days for everyone involved with this event and we ask that you leave feedback for the event here and on this official survery because we seriously want to imporve for other events.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2YJBFVG
Issue 1 being addressed already is the audio quality- this is mostly due to discord and streaming from a 3rd production person as we are not a professional production studio with sound proof rooms so we will attempt to limit this issues with more testing before future events.
Issue 2 being addressed already is production- overall we felt it went as good as it good given the situation but there is always something to get better at to include bettee graphics and other systems in place to make the viewer experience better.
Feel free to again please take the survey and with real feedback given we can look to improve things on our end. Thanks for a great weekend turnout though this was a great event for us and hope to do more

How to highlight your chat when the queue is popped?
Posted: 19 Dec 2016 08:11 AM PST
This might be a stupid question, but I've been watching Weak3n's stream and I notice that when he plays conquest, he has his role typed into the chat and when the queue pops he is able to highlight the box while waiting to hit the accept button. Does anyone know how to do this? I tried multiple things but I am unable to figure it out.

Do any Xbox players use the Xbox Elite controller? Is it good for Smite?
Posted: 19 Dec 2016 08:08 AM PST
I'm trying to get one either for or after Christmas to abuse a sale and wanted to know if it's any good for Smite, and how it feels with Smite. I do use a pretty bad button layout because my muscle memory doesn't allow me to change it to any of the better ones, but was still wondering how people used it for Smite.

Zhong Kui and Camazotz
Posted: 19 Dec 2016 01:12 AM PST
Why is Zhong's heal capped at 3 enemies when Camazotz' isn't?
Zhong's heal is 80 + 20%
Camazotz's heal is 55 + 25%
Both are very similar heals and both require you to hit your enemy with the ability. Or in Zhong's case 2.
Is the a reason why his heal is capped?
Would he be broken if the wasn't a limit to heal?

[Serious] Send me your replays to review/critique
Posted: 19 Dec 2016 05:43 AM PST
Send me your replays, or you can send me a recording of your gameplay. I know a lot of you want to improve at Smite and a lot of you look for a mentor or coach. Well I'm willing to brutally honestly at times give feedback while watching your video and upload it to my channel with my other Smite educational videos. Remember I'll possibly be brutally honest, so if I see you miss, I'll most likely mention it, and what I feel you can improve on. I'll do a very in depth video, watching the whole video and responding to parts I want to point out that I feel could be improved on and how. Here's an example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlA4qzyNLHM&lc=z135xv0wpkiuybo1123ivlmyvla3ybcir04
I'll review your gameplay as if it was me playing. I know a lot of people charge for coaching and mentoring and analyzing replays I'll do it 100% free. The only condition is, I'm allowed to make a video about it, and you are okay if I speak negatively about plays you did. I might laugh at some plays if I think they were silly/stupid, I think the review can help people improve a lot, you just gotta be chill about me possibly reviewing it negatively. Some people can't handle brutally honest reviews, and some can, so understand if you can or can't before sending me a replay to review. Understand me making a review video means people will watch it and might comment on it.
What you can expect from my review is mostly, measuring good positioning, maxing your farm ratios, amount of pressure you apply to the enemy team, accuracy, dodge skills, how clean is your HUD and more.
If it's a video of your team, let me know what you want me to review about the video. I haven't had anyone complain about me being brutally honest in my reviews yet, but ya know.
I'll tell ya what, if you send me a replay and want the video I make of it taken down within "1 week" of it being uploaded because you didn't like how it effected your rep or something, I'll do it. I just say 1 week so that you can't ask me a months/years later to remove the video. I really want to help you guys and most of ya should be chill about me saying w.e about your gameplay, so send me your replays if you want me to critique them possibly very harshly.
Little bit about myself, I'm a season 2 gm, who is currently diamond this season more focused on making youtube videos, it's what I originally wanted to do in me getting gm to show my credit ability. So my channels been growing, so I'm more focused on that. You can consider this a more personal or friend relationship, I'm happy to answer most questions related to smite and feel free to ask as many questions related to smite as you like. You can even send me 1 hour clips of you auto practicing on training dummies and I can recommend stuff. Recently I tested having 2 smurfs in bronze and taking them both to diamond in 2 days. This makes me feel confident about helping others as if i know what to recommend to get to diamond quickly. I break the meta a lot, using med and talaria boots for certain strategies so i may recommend these things.
This is a serious post, so let's try and not be negative. The only reason i gave that warning about possibly being brutally honest is, well I'm honest in how i feel about your gameplays and I want to give my first impressions of your gameplay not some fake crap like oh just practice more. Also because ya know there's bad apples eventually in the apple basket, so this might help weed that out so I can review gameplay videos and help people possibly without having to deal with blacklash, haven't hadn't any blacklash yet about my recent review videos, but figured some pre planning might help avoid that.
