Player with a grudge got his guild to 3 day ban me

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 09:24 AM PDT

Some Background.

A few days ago I was in a WQ and tried to group with a player nearby. They declined and I asked why since it's faster to group. They told me grouping is unnecessary and blocked me. Several minutes later, this player invited me into a group. I thought they perhaps changed their mind but instead they said only "Fuck off" then left.

As I could no longer whisper them, I tried to invite them again to understand what just happened, but each time it was declined.

The Silence

About 2 days after that I received a 24hr account silence. The email stated:

"Your fellow players reported you for abusive language multiple times"

This concerned me as the only recent negative integration was the WQ person. Additionally, I did not use abusive language. Furthermore, "fellow players" seemed odd seeing as there was no one else involved. I appealed the ticket but was told:

An additional review of the action has been completed. We have confirmed our initial findings, and the action will not be reversed or changed.

Odd. I think the matter was dubious but whatever, I could still play and carried on as normal.

Mail and Whisper

About a day after the silence I receive an in-game mail. That same WQ player writes:

You got reported by multiple people. Hope you enjoy your ban.

Initially I thought this was a joke, yet seeing the recent silence email and this message I was bewildered. Why would multiple people report me for whispers between two people? Also, the sender's blatant boasting seemed to confirm that indeed several players were involved. I replied that their actions was dishonest and an abuse of the system.

A few hours later that same day someone outside of my server sends me a random whisper:

Player: Enjoy your future ;)

Me: and who are you?

Player: don't worry ;)

Immediately I knew this was connected. I had to be. This seemed like a direct threat on another mass report/ban. I opened a web ticket and listed all of this information to Blizzard including screenshots and character names. I also stated asked that they review the information ans I was sure it would trigger a ban. Sure enough it did.

Banned

Your fellow players reported you for a gameplay offense that is in violation of the Blizzard EULA and/or Code of Conduct

This is the email I received today. When opening a ticket about this, I received the standard "We now consider this matter closed and would not look to enter into further discussion on the subject." I tried opening a web chat but after they say hello and and will review the case, the chat is closed.

So why am I banned?

It seems that multiple people have reported me in the last 4 days for abusive chat and disruptive gameplay. I would hazard a guess at friend or guild mates seeing as that account that whispered me was not from my server (and blocked accounts can't whisper u from alts). Allegedly, I have been doing so much that it warranted an account silence and then 3 day ban. This makes no sense to me. After the silence and even knowing what that player mailed me, I just deiced to let it go and move on.

There is an issue in the system that makes it too easy for players to inconvenience other. My account is almost a decade old. As I wrote in one of my web tickets:

Is it not strange that after several years of playing, my account suddenly has reports, violations, suspension and ban in such a short time, in particular when all seems to point to one incident?

It's disappointing that Blizzard does not have any form of good customer interaction or human approach to unfortunate situations. All I have received are standard cut-and-paste replies and generic "We will look into it" messages. Even when I said this would happen there was no in-game conversation, human dialogue or at least direct reasuring approach.

Blizzard has a customer service problem that is too automated and impersonal.

So what's next?

I would value and information or guidance on the matter. I have tried calling the EU number but it auto-hangs up. I have opened tickets clearly showing timelines and evidence before and after the ban to no effect. Has this happened to you?

Update

I have been in touch with Blizzard and received clarification. There is indeed a transparency issue with their customer service. The web tickets are wholesomely useless and do not provide enough information.

Web Tickets need clear information that is not vague and automated. It is frustrating to receive no update and only get attention through social media traction. Customer service needs to be revised and better implemented.

It seems the moral of the story is: do not send mail to people asking why they harass you as they will report you for harassment.

The interesting thing about BFA right now is that there is no lack of content to do, but the reward for all of that content feels like it's not worth doing.

I apologize off the bat if this has been posted time and time again, but I think it's interesting to see people talk about this expansion in both a positive and negative way.

  • The Azerite system really is a combination of Artifacts and Legendaries in one. (saw this earlier today on here and fully agree with it)

  • Islands are a good concept for repeatable, small group content that turned out to be utterly repetitive and boring with no differentiation at all (crocolisks literally every island), with their reward being lackluster at best. People on here have already given plenty of solutions to make islands better (Tmog, mounts, pets from Dubloon vendor). On top of that, I feel like the AP reward for completing the weekly cap should increase weekly to make it worthwhile to everyone no matter what.

  • Dungeons, while essentially the same as Legion Mythic Plus system, not having farmable Azerite gear is both a good and bad thing since it removes the feeling of needing to grind them, but limits how often you can get higher level Azerite gear.

  • Warfronts sound like a cool idea but so far (at least on Alliance side) feel dull and not worth the time investment. Though maybe the 40 man event will be more fun and worthwhile.

  • Why do we still have a mission table at all?

There are plenty of things I do like about BFA, the zones are nice, Uldir is an excellent first raid, and most of the dungeons are interesting with nice challenging content that makes you actually use everything in your toolkit to complete successfully.

EDIT: I feel like we should place bets on the next Developer Q&A touching on some of these points but them blowing them off saying "the team feels the content is fine the way it is if you do X or Y thing"

Treasure chests don't even feel worth dismounting for

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 12:19 PM PDT

What's up with that? You 'find' a treasure chest and it contains 3 war resources and a flavourless grey item worth 4g. I could be literally passing over one and I don't even bother wasting a few seconds dismounting to click it anymore.

Wouldn't it be better if there were far fewer chests but they actually contained something that wasn't worthless?

The 280 weapon from weekly conquest is a tooltip bug. Conquest rewards for the first week of the new PvP Season are an item level 345 weapon of your choice from class options. Blizzard is working on a fix to display the correct item level.
