True Dota 2 - Do you think we need more heroes that gain stats permanently?

Do you think we need more heroes that gain stats permanently?

I'm thinking along the lines of Legion Commander, Pudge, and Silencer. Does this mechanic make the game better or worse, in your view?

When to buy Skadi?

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 11:31 PM PDT

So to me Skadi is that mysterious item that somehow wins games, but I don't clearly see when you should be like "yeah, skadi is definitely the best choice here."

Sometimes I think that it's good when you don't want to buy Heart but you need to be tanky while having more mana, and the slow is great. I understand that it is great on heroes like Slark, Troll Warlord or Sniper, but what about other heroes? What is the thought process behind purchasing Skadi?

When to build SNY on Luna or do you at all?

It feels like you get more out of Manta regardless of the situation on Luna. I need help.

What makes Spectre so strong?

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 02:16 AM PDT

Hey guys, first post ever on this reddit.

I'm a former HoN player who was around 1800 MMR which maybe sits me at high ancient in regard to dota but I am Archon5 due to lack of games and still adjusting to dota metas.

So I want to discuss Spectre a little.

Spectre obviously needs a strong laning support that can make up for Spectre's pretty poor skillset. Generally, laning with a hero that can give sustained damage output and generally keep the opposition heroes off his back. The more aggressive the offlane duo is, the worse it generally will go with a lack of lane rotations that you see in Archon/Legend games.

He has a great power spike in the mid-game and doesn't need much to come online due to his ulti but I still think this hero really requires too much of a team to be seen as a tier-1 carry. He synergises amazingly with heroes such as Silencer but, my question is, is he worthy of building a team around and sacrificing in other areas?

When do you upgrade your stick to wand and in which situations do you not upgrade it at all?

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 08:32 AM PDT

It's been my standard starting build for like a month now: 1x tango 1x clarity and a wand. I'm just curious about your thoughts on when to upgrade and whether to keep it as a stick until it's needed to be discarded.

NEVER play while sick.

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 05:21 PM PDT

I just lost 2 ranked matches, 2 unranked matches, and 3 mid 1v1's. Needless to say, do not play Dota when you are sick, it will only make you feel worse.

I'm pretty new to dota but I don't understand when I want to be summoning the skeletons on wraith. What do they do for me?

Drums Arc Warden

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 06:39 AM PDT

Hey there. So lately I've been experimenting with this lately and it's working out well.

What makes this item special is that AW can never run out of charges aslong as he keeps one charge on the main hero.

The item progression is as follows: Midas -> Maelstrom -> Drums. AW can farm this item in no time and gives so much utility.

  • Boosts your wave clear: Double with drums active + maelstrom deletes waves in 2-3secs.

  • Offsets your mobilty issues.

  • Strong for taking towers, you can potentially cast the active 3 times during a siege.

  • Huge utility for your team, especially if you TP the double to rescue someone.

  • Gives you some midgame presence w/o hindering your farm (in turn increases it).

  • Bonus stats and mana regen.

  • Helps with Rosh

What do you think? I've been doing this build for 1 month so far and I have around 80% wr on it around 15 games.

1.25s lift time, viable?

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 02:23 AM PDT

I was checking out various invoker combos earlier and I realised that the lift time talent may or may not be quite situationally useful? I'm wondering if anyone had any interesting ideas as to why it may be preferable over the meteor damage talent.

Some (untested in game) thoughts I had were:

The fact that you can use a 5 spell combo with maxed quas and aghs.

Maybe some weird build where you can skip quas and only put a point into it? Upsides would be the faster maxing of wex, but I'm pretty sure stuff like increased ice wall slow, cold snap and the lane regen you would get from quas levels means it's most likely not viable

Major stalling with both tornado talents (cd and lift time) I imagine would be insanely annoying.

Maybe you could also take it with q/w for the extra length of disable, as you're not going to be using meteor until later levels(?)

Thoughts? It's probably not viable at all but who knows, it may have some really good use that has not been seen yet.

What to do when this happens

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 05:47 AM PDT

So what do I do when I'm taking a dump on mid with brood so hard that 4 heroes tp there to try and kill me and fail and start destroying my t1 but my teammates won't tp in or push their own lanes I obviously can't fight them so i just resort to jungling after my teammates simply won't help out or at least push their lanes instead of farming slowly with a finger up their asshole not to mention i got blamed for "losing mid"

Ogre Magi Aghs?

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 08:06 PM PDT

I keep getting shitted on for an aghs core build.

Here is my general build, with some deviations depending on team comp: Wand > Arcane > Force Staff/Glimmer > Aghs > Greaves

With the aghs, it gives you unrefined blast and obviously you burn so much mana that you won't be able to cast any other spells. I usually cast D and if I have no mana, I'll wand/arcane to cast Q, then back to D and back to Q with the other mana item.

So far, it's working in 4k, but I wonder if I should consider giving up chain stun for a shivas or sheep in general.
