I played my first ever 3rd person play through recently and noticed that the ending slides are actual projector slides.

New Fallout 76 details in Game Informer article

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 11:48 AM PDT

Some notes.

  • The Overseer left the vault before everyone else. The main quest is long, longer than in other games because it takes you across the entire map, and at the end the player is expected to be of a higher level. The quest finale has to do with launching your first nuclear bomb. After that you can search for access codes for other nuclear silos.

  • Similarly to Skyrim, some quests are immediately given to a player when they approach a location or point of interest. For example, you come close to a mine, and a quest pops up telling you to explore the mine. The goal is to have the player full of tasks as soon as possible. Again, this design philosophy is similar to the "gamey" approach Bethesda took with Skyrim.

  • The map is divided into six regions, but even the regions are divided into level zones. The Cranberry Bogs offer the most difficult areas in the game (aside from the radiation-generated zones that the player creates using nuclear warfare). The game does scale with the player that enters a zone, but it's in favor of the world, not the player. What that means is that if a level 40 player enters a zone, the world will be around level 40-60. However, the game does have some levers in place for solo players to succeed as well.

  • There is no dialogue in the game and your character is voiceless. The NPC robots still speak, and you can still barter with some of them, but no "real" dialogue trees or choices.

  • There are side quests as well as new world events in which PvP is turned off. These world events are more geared towards groups, and as such everyone in the server will get them. You can fast travel to them. An example of an event is a mission where you need to escort a group of robots to different locations, and they will make comments on the locations you take them to. If they're alive at the end you get a reward. World events give some of the best loot in the game.

  • There will be hundreds of perk cards available on release, but Bethesda is planning to add even more in the future, as well as themed-cards (probably for Holidays and the like). Perk packs are given each 5 levels and cannot be purchased with real money.

  • The cap is 24 players per game, and 4-player squads. However, Bethesda implied that it's possible that the limit may be raised for special servers some time down the road. You can fast travel to your teammates.

  • Not all robot NPCs are generic vendors or fillers. There are some actual characters in the game with defined personas, but no details were given. Regardless, they are not the focus of the game.

  • You can build harvesters to harvest special resources near your camp, like aluminium deposits. If you're playing in a group, the four players can connect their camps together so they can form bigger settlements, but after a player logs out their segment will be gone with them. Technically speaking, if all the players in the server somehow coordinate to build their camps together, they actually can. There are public settlements that are bigger and offer more resources, but are also raided by battalions of hostile mobs.

  • If you take lesser valuable resources from another player's settlement, like fruit or vegetables, you'll get in trouble.

  • As the map is four times the size of Fallout 4, it's less dense with a bigger focus on distance between points of interests. However, it is still more packed with content than any other Bethesda game. "It has a scary amount of content", said the game lead, Jeff Gardiner.

  • You can now pick up Power Armor frames in your inventory after you run out of battery in your fusion core.

  • Aside from thirst and famine, you also need to watch out for radiation and toxic air.

Playing FO4 on survival and can't find a fucking bed to sleep. What kind of war harden infantry man demands a bed for his beauty sleep? That shit is weak.

Nuka Dark Rum launches tomorrow!

I appreciate, how in Fallout 4, when you interact in dialogue the camera changes and focuses on who ever is talking. Adding a cinematic effect. Also gives you the chance to see your character’s face you spent so much work on.

Posted: 03 Sep 2018 09:47 PM PDT

Small details like these are the step in the right direction. It's definitely an improvement but i do realize this is because the character is voiced. I wonder how 76 will handle it.

Your Hometown/Region in the Fallout Universe

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 08:57 AM PDT

I live in Corydon IN (very close to Louisville KY) and my town would be one filled with hunters eating molerat meat and wearing camo armor to hide from all the gigantic sonic bats we have here. Due to lack of resources in the open Scavvers are no issue and raiders almost always get killed by either the bats or the feared and odd cult "Children of the Maize" who wear burnt robes and burlap over their faces. Centuries of incest has turned these people into murderous blade and gun wielding freaks with deformities who are often ghastly pale and horribly disfigured upon birth. Due to the bat's size they are only seen above ground and many of the shops have hidden entrances like tunnels dug into the floors. The Brahmin are sent on small paths through the woods during the day surrounded by armed guards with flashbangs and mustard grenades with their guns so the creatures can make their way to "Marengo city" a mining town digging deeper and farther everyday to keep up with the population. Flame is our usual light source and houses are carved into walls with large stones as doors. Living so far away from the institute we have no worry for synths but we do live in fear of super mutants and weapon tinkers to the south. As of the year 2377 we began to find flora and fauna for the caves and for now the only ones who leave are guards while the tall mutated trees and plants alongside the erupted caldera and fallout constantly blown through the atmosphere freezes us. We were always taught "It's safe where we live. The caverns are our friend." and that has never been proven wrong. All we can do is hope another explosion doesn't come.

My first REAL stab at settlement building

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 06:30 AM PDT

Just yesterday I realized I'd put hundreds of hours into this game, and that Fallout has been my favorite game series for a decade, yet somehow the only attempts I'd made at settlement building were slapping enough beds in houses and planting enough food/putting enough purifiers down to keep the numbers out of the red. That's it. I'd never spent more than maybe twenty minutes on any one settlement.

I looked into what mods I should get for settlements (mostly just USO/STS, I'm on PS4, and also pre-walled settlements) and headed to Starlight (a raider outpost, ran by the Operators, so tried to keep that in the vibe of the settlement) and God damn it is harder to place and build things than I thought it was. But after around six hours of tedious work, many trips back and forth to Diamond City selling my purified water for junk and shipments and feeling like a Brahmin, and many many irl smoke breaks and noises of pure fustration, this is how far I've gotten, and I'm very proud so I'm posting my first post on Reddit to show you guys. I'm gonna come back and post again after I've cleaned everything up over the next week or so. I excluded picturing most of the market and a lot of interiors because I'm not even close to done yet and it looks nothing near some of the settlements I see on here, but after wrapping up at the end of the night I felt like it was alright enough to show off some!

Like I said this is my first post on Reddit, it was also my first Imgur post and I'm on mobile so let me know if I had any trouble with formatting or anything.

My Starlight Operators Outpost: http://imgur.com/a/0wdagZ3

I'm 100% sure settlement building is gonna take over my life for the foreseeable future.

Edit: Had to un-plural a word

The Minute Men are the best faction (hear me out)

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 11:55 AM PDT

Obviously when you first meet them, they are an absolute joke. They could be completely demolished by throwing 1 grenade in that one room in that museum in Concord. But if you choose to side with them, they become one of the most powerful factions in the game. And unlike the Brother Hood of Steel, they don't use their power to force settlers to donate to them or join. After the Minute Men help a farm or settlement, they can happily say no and the Minute Men would just happily go on with their day. Which proves that they truly want to make the Commonwealth a better place. They also don't have anyone to stand in their way either. The other 3 factions are in constant war with each other, which really prevents them from achieving their goals. But the other factions (even the Institute) don't really care about what they do and ignore them while they help the people of the Commonwealth. Not only are they the best faction but they are truly the greatest hope for the Commonwealth. Sure you don't get a crazy suit of power armor, or a 100 damage rail gun, but you do get the chance to help the struggling settlers and settlements and make the Commonwealth peaceful and a normal place again

(Spoilers) can you get Maxson's coat in the railroad ending?

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 08:43 AM PDT

I think if i remember correctly, in the institute ending you fight against him? But in the railroad ending the ship just blows up so he dies along with everyone else in the prydwen. There are a couple bodies scattered around but im having a hard time finding his, if his body is there at all.

Fallout 4 (MOD IDEA) Wilder wasteland than you've ever seen (Minor spoilers)

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 05:34 AM PDT

Loads of ideas have been thrown out over the years but none come to light, this is my idea for a complete overhaul, if you are a dedicated modder please take inspiration from this post it would be incredible to see in game :) It would be for a silly yet very fallout esque playthrough

Features - Wacky wilder things than you could imagine

Ideas

  • When you return to your house in sanctuary with the mod your house is in near full condition with geraniums (I think codworth says) as big pretty flowers, the house is in pre war condition yet the rest of the neighbouring houses are in ruin, the car is rusty though. Which keeps the dialogue lore friendly and funny. Codsworth is also polished in pre war style with no rust
  • In the institute on a terminal there's a note mentioning shrinking things, well we have a "Shauns crib" in settlement building, so you are able to shrink old man shaun to a baby size and place him inside his crib. Keeping him there till the game ends
  • Remember motorcycle guy from raider stories? Well with this perk you can hear motorcycle noises in downtown boston every once in a while now
  • Extension to the prior idea possibly replace the mysterious stranger perk with the motor cycle man perk, instead of him appearing a man on a bike appears lobbing grenades in vats
  • Whitechapel charlie now sells tea, you can sell coffee cups you find in the world to him for 10 caps each.

Some ideas I came up with, if you like any of these feel free to use them in a mod. Comment down below if you have any other ideas.

Nuka Dark release question

Does anyone know if the Nuka Dark that's dropping tomorrow will be sold at any brick and mortar stores, or strictly online? Also, will it be more widely available than the Quantum was? Thanks!

Will Cait still like it if I run around naked under Power Armor?

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 11:18 AM PDT

I want to get her affinity up so I can romance her, and I initially thought if I did the Open Season quest in Nuka-World, it'd be sufficient, since she hates raiders. But according to the wiki, this isn't the case.

So, I was thinking, maybe I could run around naked while wearing Power Armor beating the shite out of Nuka World, and raise her affinity on the side. I know I could just grind it out by fast travelling but that's U N I M M E R S I V E.

Need help with DarNified UI F3 - Download site locked to members only

Posted: 04 Sep 2018 03:00 PM PDT

Hey,

So I decided to replay the Fallout series and got to Fallout 3. I know there are issues when trying to run it on PC and so I've followed a guide to improve the quality of life for Windows 10.

Anyway, I'm trying to install DarNified UI F3 and the download site requires a log in, but the site itself isn't taking on any new members (links below), so I am stuck unable to download it. I googled around to find another place hosting it, but keep getting redirected back to this page.

I'm told to download the FOMOD version and then the hotfix in order to correctly install the mod.

Anyone able to help me out?

can we talk about how he has a separate gun just to pistol whip with as his melee when you select it on the companion wheel? Now, I know it's because of animation limitation but I'd like to think he literally has a separate gun just for that. Lmao
