Squad Strike confirmed to work like All Star from Project M!

Would anyone else want another “everyone is here” trailer once all the characters are revealed?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 11:23 AM PDT

It would be really cool to see every character that has been/will be revealed in a new trailer to show how big this smash game is once everyone has been revealed.

An interesting detail I noticed in the Villager character trailer: The Great Bay stage has an accurately place heart piece visible in the background!

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:25 PM PDT

It's a small and barely noticeable inclusion but very cool nonetheless. It may seem insignificant but to me it really shows how Sakurai and his team are going above and beyond to make Ultimate feel as faithful and authentic as possible. This is a screenshot I took, complete with the handy and everpresent red circle.

Newcomers by game - a visualization.

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 01:05 PM PDT

My hype has caused this.

I've been really excited for Ultimate so I've been channeling that into this chart that shows the number of newcomers introduced in each game. If trends continue, we should have a fair number more for Ultimate... Fingers crossed! Thanks for looking.

Edit: Fixed version is linked now. I moved Dark Pit to right after Palutena. I also swapped Lucina and Robin because Robin was revealed after Lucina in their trailer. Thanks for the feedback! May the hype continue without delay!

Additional fun facts: I had to find individual images for the Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard, and the Miis. I got to place them by hand, as opposed to the stock images I was using from the smash bros website. This means I also got to pick the background colors by hand too (I was using color values found in the css for each character on the website). The Miis just got colors to complement their costume, while the Pokemon got colors sampled from the Japanese box arts for Red, Blue, and Green versions. I did change those colors slightly to "fit in" more, but that's about it.

Just some amiibo with real hands

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 02:12 PM PDT

(Sorry if this isn't allowed mods)

My friend and I were messing around with some mini realistic hands, and we started putting them on amiibo. I'm so sorry.

There's something so satisfying about seeing this list of playable characters from the series and seeing all green under ultimate

What's the icon supposed to be?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:04 AM PDT

First off let me say that this sub doesn't allow the word "upvote" in the title, which is why it's worded weirdly. Second, the Reddit mobile app just added the ability to see the custom upvote/downvote icons, and I get that the neutral and downvote icons are Master/Crazy Hand, but what's the upvote?

UPDATE: It's now a purple up arrow in a white box, while downvote is still thumbs down

Can we change the down and upvt icons to smash and fake smash ball?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 10:12 AM PDT

With ultimate they also introduce the new item: a fake smash ball that when you destroy it explodes(its ok their website)

I want all the stages back, just so I can say, "Everywhere is Here"

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 12:19 PM PDT

It's unfortunate we may not get all back though because Pac-Maze probably won't be back because of the gimmick in the 3DS version. It's sad though because it pains me that the awful Pac-Land is the only Pac Man representation. It looks like something I would have come up with in MS Paint when I was 8 years old. Sorry to the two Pac-Land fans on this sub.

I've compiled a list of proof and evidence for characters who have a high chance of showing up as the next newcomer reveal for Ultimate

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 02:59 PM PDT

Since we have a lot of proof regarding characters who have a chance to appear in Smash, I decided to create this thread for those people like me who are having a hard time keeping up with all of the evidence that characters have to get into the game.

So just remember that I don't know all of the evidence for characters so you guys are probably gonna need to help me out in the comments for any info that you know.

And with that being said, let's begin!

SKULL KID:

• A remake for Majora's Mask was released months before Nintendo announced the ballot, which may have possibly sparked his popularity during it, making him more popular than other Zelda characters who were requested. • Skull Kid was one of many characters to get a Mii costume in Smash 4, and most of the characters who have gotten costumes have been showing up in Ultimate. • In the background of the room that Sakurai was doing the August direct, there were some furniture in there that resembled Skull Kid's colors. "• While some may seem that to be ridiculous, the same thing was actually seen in the E3 direct, with furniture in the room making an homage to King K. Rool. • The Ramblin' Evil Mushroom item that's been introduced shares the exact same mechanics that Skull Kid's assist trophy did in Smash 4. • Zelda usually has one assist trophy that represents each of their respected games, Majora's Mask already has a different assist rep in the form of The Moon from the game.

GENO: (Thanks to u/baroqueworks for the nice bit of info on Geno!)

• Sakurai himself as said that he has wanted to put Geno in the game since Brawl. • Like many others, even though he wasn't playable, he did get a Mii costume, and most characters who have been revealed also come from Mii outfits. • The leaker boi Vergeben has leaked that his sources tell him that there is going to be a 2nd Square Enix rep. • Sakurai has said in an interview that he's used the Smash Ballot when choosing newcomers for Ultimate, and seeing how Geno was a very popular pick during the ballot.... yeah I think you guys get the idea. • Peach's final smash has yet to be revealed, with folks speculating it could be her strongest move in SMRPG, Psych Bomb, where she throws dozens of Bombs onto a enemy, and is being held off as not to give away SMRPG's inclusion.

ISABELLE:

• Like others, Isabelle's Assist Trophy has not been seen. • Once again, Vergeben has leaked that Isabelle will be in along with others. • Animal Crossing already has an assist trophy representative in the form of Kapp'n, so I doubt that they'd do two Animal Crossing assists.

SHADOW:

• Like others, Shadow's assist trophy has been left unseen since the reveal of Ultimate, strange seeing as how he has been an assist trophy since Brawl.

BANDANA DEE: (Thanks to u/TehGibbleHanker, u/Lady_Pasta_Heart and u/That_Sassy_Friend for the info on the Waddle Dee!)

• When the actress of Kirby was asked about Bandana Dee being included in Smash, she teased at the possibility of him making it in to the roster. • Bandana Dee, along with Daisy had their amiibo's datamined suggesting that they may be on their way to getting new ones. • The Waddle Dee has been the most popular new Kirby rep since the days of the ballot. • Bandana Dee is not seen in King Dedede's Final Smash (where he should be, based on the source material), and knowing that Sakurai put a lot of detail in the FS stuff this time, it's suspicius to not see him there...

ISAAC: (Thanks to u/Flarzo for reminding me about Isaac's obvious inclusion hint from Sakurai's Twitter)

• Sakurai went and posted a picture of Rathalos's assist trophy going up against Link, Shulk and Marth, with the picture heavily resembling a fight from the Golden Sun games. • Once again, like other fighters, Isaac was heavily popular on the Smash Ballot.

BLACK KNIGHT:

• The Black Knight actually got his own Mii outfit in the same wave as K. Rool and Chrom did. • In Castle Siege, the Black Knight is no longer seen in the background like he always was, being replaced with a red knight in his place.

SHANTAE: (Thanks to u/Primetime22 for the info!) (And also a big thanks to u/Altines for the big bags of proof involving Shantae!)

• Shantae has a good history with Nintendo starting from the Gameboy Color, being exclusive to them for quiet a while, even being very popular on the eShop for weeks, which not many titles manage to do. • With the inclusion of Shovel Knight's assist trophy, being the first ever indie representation in Smash, shows that Sakurai is open to the idea of letting popular indie titles being represented in Smash Bros. • Shantae was actually very popular as well during the final ballot days, even going as far as to end up higher than Shovel Knight! • There is a photo of Sakurai and one of the directors at WayForward that was taken in 2015 when the roster for Ultimate was completed. Some dismissed it but the fact stands that Sakurai was at Wayforward at one time. • WayForward really wanted Shantae in Smash during the ballot. They were very vocal, and even made an icon and colors for her in case she got picked. She was sadly not the winner of the ballot, but rumor has it that she did really well. • Shantae has not appeared in recent indie fighters despite being heavily requested, but she HAS appeared in other recent indie games that are not fighters. Shovel Knight on the other hand appeared in ALL of them, including the fighters, and he's an assist trophy in Ultimate. • WayForward's Twitter usually favorites and retweets all kinds of Shantae posts and artwork that are positive and sfw, yet they have not done so with a SINGLE post that is about her being in Smash. They stay silent whenever that pops up. "•In addition to the Twitter silence it was mentioned that YachtClub was also very silent about Shovel Knight being in smash and since his reveal has been talking about him and retweeting about him being in Smash as an AT. It's possible that the NDA that YachtClub was and WayForward is possibly under prevents them from talking about Smash at all. • From a GameFaq user named Shinjin:

At the tail end of July a surprise DLC update was added to all versions of Half-Genie Hero, a new Mode called Jammies Mode. In it Shantae decides to have a slumber party, dubbed by her in pretty much all dialogue when it is brought up as the "Ultimate Slumber Party" and "Everyone is invited" At the end Mimic tells her to get well rested for tomorrow, and that he is proud of her. Upon asking him whats going to happen tomorrow, Mimic responds with a vague " Ha Who knows? Every day is a new adventure! You have to be well rested and ready to go!" It all seems like subtle teasing given the current context of everything going on right now.

CHORUS KIDS: (Thanks to u/TheCJBrine for commenting proof for these strange looking children's inclusion.)

• When dataming Smash 4, the series symbol for Rhythm Heaven could be found, insinuating that maybe a rep for Rhythm Heaven was planned to originally appear but didn't make it due to the Wii U's limitations.

BANJO KAZOOIE: (Thanks to u/HadiDiab for reminding me about the obvious bit of evidence for my most wanted fighter's inclusion for Smash)

• The obvious bit of proof of course, is that Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft has stated TWICE that he's open to Banjo Kazooie being in Smash. And seeing as how Nintendo and Microsoft have been very buddy buddy with each other as of late, they may wanna bring their relationship to the next step, by letting Sakurai put Banjo in Smash. • Seeing as how the Smash Ballot is the way Sakurai is choosing the newcomers for this game and Banjo being one of the most popular characters in the days of the ballot, I don't see his inclusion unlikely for Ultimate.

So yeah, that's all I know for now. If there's more info you all can update me on I'd appreciate that.

EDIT: Thanks to everyone with the comments, I know that the proof for Shantae ain't enough right now so tomorrow I'll have more proof on her.

If there's any other characters that you all can help me with until then like Lloyd Irving, Shadow or Chorus Kids then I'd appreciate that!

(New Melee bug discovered?) During Zain vs Hungrybox Winners Semifinals at Shine, I noticed that there's 2 frames where Pokemon Stadium's screen flashes to show a Fox Vs. Falco match. Is this a known bug?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 06:43 AM PDT

Was watching Hbox vs Zain winners semifinals (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf89JwGnHMU)

At 17:57 in the video or when there's 7:47 left in the final game, there are two frames in which the screen on Pokemon Stadium (which usually shows the match or the characters names and time left), for some reason flashes to a green fox vs falco match. You can go to 17:57 and then use the period and comma keys to move forward or back a frame to see for yourself. Has this bug been documented before? (I'm sure it has since it's melee but I've never seen someone mention it). I've taken some screengrabs for reference.

https://imgur.com/a/HOKEGdU

The first two images are the two frames in which the screen shifts to a Fox vs Falco match for some reason, and the third image is the frame right after where it goes back to normal, but if you look closely you can still see Fox Vs. Falco on the screen inside the screen. Anyone have any insight?

Can a trophy be broken?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:24 PM PDT

We see Bowser beat up a Ganendorf's trophy before in a fit of rage, but it barely had a dent in it and there was no damage after he Ganendorf was revived. Which made me wonder: Are the trophys in Smash indestructible? If there is a way to destroy a trophy, how much power would one need to have? Is there any character that could possibly destroy one?

Lots of people complain about "anime swordsmen" as a blanket statement, but on the flipside, what aesthetic do you think Smash Bros needs/needs more of?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 05:37 AM PDT

A lot of people complain about a perceived overload of 'anime swordsmen', but what character archetypes do you feel we need more of?

More beasts? More power-armour? More puffballs? A holy/light-based villain? A demon? More mages? More toons? More sci-fi characters? More anthropomorphs? A physical manifestation of an element?

What's the fighter that you wish you could get into but can't for some reason?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 01:25 PM PDT

For me it's Yoshi. In every game since Smash 64 I've tried to pick him up at first but then found he didn't really click with me for whatever reason and moved on to someone else. Here's hoping Smash Ultimate breaks that trend!

Competitive Squad Strike?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 09:34 AM PDT

I honestly think this will be an amazing idea that will be a welcomed addition to the competitive scene. It sounds like a great amount of thought will come to creating a team due to how each character has some sort of weakness. My question is how do you think this will be implemented because there's so many ways to go about this.

It's not gonna replace 1v1, you dudes are crazy paranoid.
