New co-worker introduced himself as a Pokemon fan. Turns out he was 'joking'. Posted: 07 Sep 2018 02:54 AM PDT So once a month all the departments at my work get together to introduce new people. There are probably about 100-150 people. One of the new guys introduced himself as liking Pokemon which got a laugh. So afterward I went up to him to offer some tips about local Pokemon go spots. Turns out he only said that as a joke. He thought it was funny bc I guess obviously adults don't play or enjoy those kinds of things? I don't know but it was actually kinda annoying to me. I am 30 (F) and yes I enjoy a game that kids play. Another guy introduced himself as enjoying crocheting cat toys but he actually meant it (had pictures). This game has a huge range of players. Why is it a joke to enjoy playing? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2018 12:56 PM PDT So I recently asked Niantic support about why my nearest PokéStop never spawns any Pokémon. This was their response. Guess I don't have a Stop now either. [link] [comments]
Found this awesome Pokémon in the wild today Posted: 06 Sep 2018 11:02 PM PDT This is my first experience like this, finding such a high CP rare Pokémon in the wild! (I haven't been playing for long) It was super exciting. Everything about it was lucky, I caught it on my first ball, it has a perfect attack IV, and it's female too which has a 12.5% of happening. This was such a cool end to my day! Can't wait to use her in raids and gyms and stuff :D [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:36 PM PDT So Niantic have banned a lot of what they consider to be inappropriate names (like evil and Virginia) but I was delighted to find they forgot about us Brits and our many, many swear words. https://i.redd.it/m08zitb6iwk11.png [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:39 PM PDT I been playing the game since late 2017 when I came back and today I caught this girl, my first 100% IV and lvl 30 too! What was your first 100%? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2018 10:24 AM PDT https://i.imgur.com/HjtqEzj.png I stumbled across a pretty impossible gym the other day. Full special Pikachu family, perfectly posed for a family photo. In a world where every gym is a Blissey swarm, this was a welcome discovery! [link] [comments]
[Discussion] Just had a "trading night" with a Pokemon Go group and it was amazing Posted: 07 Sep 2018 06:07 PM PDT A group that I am in that casually does boss raids decided to have a "trading night" yesterday evening. We selected a usual grinding spot with 3 to 5 stops, and there was food for everyone. Initially, people just traded once to increase their friendship levels for the day, but mostly everyone was focused on grinding because hey, 3x stardust catch is sweet! There were special trades here and there but I suppose since it's in the evening already, most are already done with their special trades during the day. However, the fun starts after midnight. Special trades were now reset for everybody! My first trade was with a friend who owes me a shiny from a previous trade we've done. He gave me a Shiny Makuhita (my first) and I gave him an old 2016 Dodrio. We both have more than 10 lucky pokemon, but hey, I'll still take the added chances of it being a lucky, and voila! Shiny Lucky Makuhita with 93 IV! Everyone started doing trades all around. People were looking to make their own special trades for the day, shouting what shiny pokemon they have for trade and what shiny pokemon they need. There are some looking for legacy movesets, meta pokemon to evolve, regionals to share, old pokemon to give away, rare shinies for multiple shiny trades, and some trading entirely for the lulz. There were new players and old players helping them out with what they need. There were a lot of high fives for every lucky pokemon trade! It was both fun and somehow chaotic! It felt like I was in a real Pokemon market! Similar to how in an MMORPG, people usually converge in the town trying to Trade/Buy/Sell stuff, we were doing it in real life shouting and trading pokemon we caught and hatched in game! As I said to one of my friends, it really felt like this is the closest we'll get to trading real life pokemon. There were truly emotions involved and it didn't felt like we are just trading "digital mons." Trading 2016 caught pokemon was really hard since for us long term players, the fact that these pokemon are still in our bag after two long years means there might be a story behind it, and now we are letting them go or trading it away to others is definitely not easy. Yet there is a chance that you hope the trade will be lucky and he will be somehow upgraded into a lucky pokemon and will be cherished by his new owner. All the time I was thinking, is this what Ash felt when he was letting go of his Pidgeot, Butterfree, and Charizard? Trading lasted until 2am and we had to call it quits because today is going to be Moltres day and everybody needs to get some sleep. But yeah, it's just amazing what the trading system added to the game and the Pokemon Go community. I know there are some limitations here and there, and there is definitely a lot of room for improvements, but still, with what we currently have and what we can have in the future, Pokemon Go have allowed us to make our Pokemon trainer dreams as a kid come true. TL;DR: Pokemon Go trading with a group is fun and exciting. <3 Keep on catching, raiding, and trading everyone! [link] [comments]
I have an egg from release week. Posted: 07 Sep 2018 03:48 PM PDT So I've been saving my 2km eggs for the 'hatch 9 eggs' part of the Celebi quest. I was going through them just before and saw that one of them is from July 9, 2016., the release week of the game. I have no idea how I still have it! I now don't know whether I want to hatch it or not. I want to know what's in it, but I also want to hold onto it for as long as I can xD [link] [comments]
Finally Caught My Favorite Pokemon ! Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:37 AM PDT https://imgur.com/gallery/eFfIh1W As someone who grew up watching the original series, I always had a soft spot for snorlax. I should explain that I redownloaded the app about a year ago but really just started playing heavily in the last few months. This is mostly due to the fact that I've found how incredibly fun but also easy it is to play when living on a college campus. So in the last couple of months I've met a bunch of awesome players and caught some sweet Pokémon. But I had yet to find a snorlax (I missed out on the research encounters). When I woke up this morning I decided to open up go and look at the nearby and there it was—the dark round shadow. so I hopped out of bed, threw on pants, and ran down the street to the pokestop. After catching him I almost started crying, I guess Pokémon be like that sometimes. Anyways for those wondering the IV is not too good but I'll love him just the same!! [link] [comments]
Finally caught my favorite Pokemon! Posted: 07 Sep 2018 09:40 PM PDT I've never seen one, I've never seen anyone with one, and I've only caught a couple Kabutos. Then today, walking past the empty lot near a beach, this wild Kabutops spawned! I was incredibly shocked, but I was even more excited when I saw his stats lol [link] [comments]
[Screenshot] My first lucky and it's all I ever wanted Posted: 07 Sep 2018 11:44 AM PDT Shiny turkey https://imgur.com/gallery/RVJtBk1 So a short back story for a filler. This past Ho-oh event I took my friend and I out to the closest town worth anything Pokemon go wise. We had a deal that if he got a shiny ho-oh he would trade it to me for a copy of every legendary he didnt own. I gladly accepted this and got a beautiful fire chicken with 88-89% IV (14. 13, 13). To make things better, this was before the announcement that all Pokemon traded from July and August 2016 would be lucky. The feeling of getting him was much more than "ok, so I trade this and I'm guaranteed a lucky". I screamed and fell back on my friends bed in disbelief that I got the lucky roll on my all time favorite shiny legendary... Only beaten in my heart by a shiny landerous, sorry Ho-Oh. TL;DR: I got a lucky Ho-Oh before Niantic made it public that things from July and august guaranteed lucky. I also may have traded before they implemented this feature and if so it's even better. New pictures for pokestops/gyms Posted: 07 Sep 2018 07:39 PM PDT Through ingress you can send a new photo for an existing portal. Once it gets approved then you have to get that photo the most likes to make that the portals new picture. These photos do translate over to pogo but the time frames to do so are very inconsistent. Some only took a week or two and there are others I've been waiting on months after the picture updated in ingress. Bottom line is, does anybody know how this process works? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:28 PM PDT https://imgur.com/gallery/VCvSFn6 Bug I got earlier after exiting a gym I'd been feeding berries in. Sorry if it's been seen before, but I had never seen it, and it sure creeped me out! (Original post accidentally deleted--posting via mobile, never again! Ugh! Let me know if video still doesn't play.) [link] [comments]
Got kicked out of moltres raids Posted: 07 Sep 2018 09:40 PM PDT It was all okay to my game but when the raid started i received a message "you already completed this raid" and i couldn't be able to try catching moltres. In the end i spent money to buy raid passes for nothing, and used the passes but couldn't play i want at least my money back, damn [link] [comments]

[Art] My friend made paintings for me and some of our other friends we play PoGo with Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:34 PM PDT Not trying to advertise, just spreading some Pokemon love. She's made one for each of our friends that still play the game. It started with her making one for each her boyfriend's 3 kids that love driving/walking around and playing the game with him. She's super talented and I just wanted to brag on her! [link] [comments]
Caught my favorite Pokemon near one of my favorite places Posted: 07 Sep 2018 01:51 PM PDT Taken at Lake Crescent near Port Angeles, WA. My wife and I are up here to celebrate my 30th birthday this weekend -ever since I was a kid I've just about revered the Olympic Peninsula. This little guy popping in to say hello made the trip extra special. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Sep 2018 10:15 PM PDT I'm i the only one who isn't able to join moltres raids or even load the game at all. "Failed to login try a different account" [link] [comments]
What the heck has everyone else done with extra shinies from community days? Posted: 07 Sep 2018 12:01 PM PDT I've been sitting on like 8 extra shiny squirtles and about 15 glasses squirtles since that community day. Obviously transferring them feels wrong, but the few people I play with also caught plenty. But they're just taking up space in my box lol. [link] [comments]
Got this Lucky Pokemon Accidentally! Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:25 PM PDT https://i.imgur.com/JT2QS4B.jpg So, I was hanging out alone in a coffee shop then i notice a weak raid is nearby, walk to there and while waiting in queue of the raid, there was another player joined in ( my city is quite small and there are rarely pokemon go player) . I noticed from the nickname it's a name of friend of mine, i searched around and found the guy! and yes! it was my friend! i aproached him and we kinda suprised each other lmao. we chat a while and said he is a old time player which happens to play again. and yeah, he got a couple of July-August 2016 pokemon, and we decided to add each other account then trade a pokemon which is this cute jumping fish yet cool when evolved. Back to the coffee shop with a big smile on my face! [link] [comments]

"The case for a meaningful end game in Pokémon GO" - an open letter Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:19 AM PDT An open letter to Niantic:"The case for a meaningful end game in Pokémon GO." Dear people of Niantic, Sit down, grab a coffee or scroll down to the TL;DR at the bottom. This is going to be a long post of me doing my best not to perform a classic rant. I'll be expressing my feelings about the path the game has been taken over the past months and the path I hope it's taking moving forward. First and foremost, I'd like to state that I really, really love this game. In no shape or form has any other game had such an impact on my life. I have traveled to countries and cities I would never have thought of going to. I have met tens of people I would never have started/dared talking to. I have never collected so many meaningful memories I never thought a game could create. For all the above, I would like to thank you, Niantic, for creating the incentive to make all these experiences happen. I have been playing since day 1 and have experienced the early droughts that Pokémon GO had to go through to fix server issues and counter spoofing/cheating activities. Now, the game has caught up and is no longer as crippled and we've been welcoming a slew of events and features. These have been very enjoyable and I'm sure they have been very successful in encouraging new players to begin playing the game and encouraging players to return to the game. The business value of enlarging the player base is simple: having more users increases the odds of having more users that are willing to invest time and primarily money in the game. When a new player joins the game, they are presented with clear, achievable goals to achieve:
All these goals have increasingly been more easy to achieve through community days, raids, quests and trading. I am in no way against these features. I love most of them. Not everyone is willing to or is able to invest as much time in the game. In this way, I believe, all these features have their right to be there to make the goals more achievable. However, there are enough other players that are willing to invest time and money in the game that have already achieved above goals:
When they've achieved all above goals, they are left setting up their own goals. Most of these goals don't really yield any meaningful in-game benefit and only serve to bragging rights in their communities. In the community I'm in, some have even quit after hitting level 40. There's no real goal to chase for them anymore. Enter the case for a meaningful endgame. Niantic has done a great way of presenting the player with short term goals, but there is an increasing need for a long term goal for the dedicated player. I'm hearing more and more dedicated players feeling discouraged by the increasing ease of how the above goals are being achieved. It is one thing to make the game easier another to make it more challenging, while still rewarding. Short term goals will encourage players to play on the short run. Long term goals will encourage players to continue to play. The business value of the latter is clear. Don't get me wrong: I am strongly against giving more power to the powerful by rewarding these hardcore players with benefits that would only make them stronger. This would create a gap between a casual and a hardcore player that would only increase over time. There are however other routes the game could take to reward these hardcore players and I have a feeling that there has been too few attempts of trying to do that. I understand that this is a great challenge, but I strongly believe it is a challenge that's worth taking. TL;DR: The game is getting easier in achieving the game's basic goals, while there's no real long term goal. Dedicated players are feeling discouraged. EDIT: I'm sorry if I wasn't clear that there are genuine goals you can hit once you hit the above goals. You can chase medals, you can collect a shiny/lucky dex, you can improve your raid counters. These are indeed challenging to hit and I don't really discredit anyone for chasing them. I chase them myself. I've hit level 40 in October 2017 and I have been hitting my own set goals for the past year. [link] [comments] |
