Daniel Z Klein is calling the league community here "manbabies" for discussing the issue at PAX

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 01:47 PM PDT

Last thread got removed because of the words "Has no one else noticed that".......... lmao

Why is someone working at Riot, with 18,300 followers on twitter, actively calling a large portion of the league of legends community "manbabies" on social media?

How is this extreme lack of professionalism seen as okay? Here are just a few tweets I've found from the last few hours.

https://twitter.com/danielzklein/status/1035726260612157440

https://twitter.com/danielzklein/status/1035724253641887744

excerpt: The reason that "sexism against men" makes no sense as a concept is that men have the power...

https://twitter.com/danielzklein/status/1035725651339173888

excerpt: So yes, in the interest of justice, equality, and fairness, men need to be excluded sometimes. That's perfectly fine. Trust me, you'll have about a billion other opportunities that these women won't have. But no, you have to be absolute overgrown toddlers and throw hissy fits.

Please please please try to keep it civil. If this thread gets locked, it's over.

I love League but I'm starting to hate Riot

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:08 AM PDT

Every week comes with another bullshit story that makes this company looks like a circus full of clowns.

I survived DFG LB, 6 BC Zed and the Ardent Censer meta, but I'm not sure I can keep going knowing this company is all I hate about the new tech world and run by people who are just plain bad at being human.

This is how you kill a game, not by making it unplayable or unbalanced for a patch or two, but by going against your playerbase. What I read today in some thread, posted by actual rioters is just not okay, and I'm not even talking about twitter.

I'm going to stop spending money while the situation isn't resolved, but I'm already contemplating quitting this game because now I think more about that political/gender crap than the fun I have.

Edit: Thanks /u/Stunobo for posting the original. Hope it doesn't get vandalised again.

If Riot's recent behavior as a company was watched by their own punishment system for League, they would be banned for it.

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 10:35 AM PDT

You know being affected by this punishment system has always sucked but when you then see it's creators do even worse than what you got punished for, it feels that much worse. I'm sure everyone is appalled or starting to get fed up with some of these dumbass choices Riot is making and I feel bad for the good Rioters as I am sure most of them are. Here we were wondering if the game is going to die from balance like fools, when in reality this is the kind of shit that starts to bring down a game this big. So I hope Riot reforms themselves. And at the very least, holds themselves to the same strict rules they imposed on the community.

I miss Riot Cactopus

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 10:48 AM PDT

Just wanted to say Riot really lost a lot when Cactopus left. Since he's been gone there hasn't been a Rioter that is able to consistently communicate with the company without it being a pr nightmare. He was a perfect bridge between the community and Riot and a presence like his is something Riot needs now more than ever.

EDIT: He's back!

I'm Really Proud Of the League Community Right Now

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 10:52 AM PDT

While Riot is unfortunately digging themselves into some contradictory and unnecessary holes, the community is really coming down hard on rioters, no matter their position of power, sex, or gender, to advocate equality and demanding the removal of sexism, exclusionary behaviors, and harassment.

While much of the league community has a lot of growing up to do (looking at you Twitch chat), there are many of us who are fully supportive of women and minorities who work at Riot. However, this whole Pax ordeal is completely backwards. Instead of creating a forum of panels that focus on the opportunities for women and nb people (while including men for them to be exposed to this way of thinking as an additional learning opportunity), some at Riot have decided to fight fire with fire. You can play around with the definition of "racism" as much as you would like, but to intentionally exclude the biggest supporters of this game and community simply based on their sex and gender is wrong (believe it or not, men can be the victim of the patriarchy too. Being told that you're cis and behave a certain way over time will simply reinforce it).

It is certainly great to want to increase diversity at the company. Bringing in experiences different than the clearly non-functional environment at Riot could really shift some things up to spread equality. However, diversity for diversity sake is never a good idea unless it is critically and transparently discussed.

Also, it is laughably sexist to imply only women and nb people would be interested in panels such as Design, Writing, and Production. Way to enforce your stereotypes of women onto women!

This action by Riot is only going to create even more division between these groups. We're seeing the same thing at a national political level, and it's really discouraging to see them trying to get us angry at each other instead of at the management of Riot.

Really glad we're calling them out for this unacceptable behavior. We are a community who just wants the company who makes our favorite game respect their employees, but they also need to respect us. Daniel Klein is acting incredibly unprofessional, and despite Froskurinn overcoming so much, we're incredibly disappointed in her as well.

Cactopus rejoins Riot

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 12:27 PM PDT

/u/the_cactopus aka Ryan Rigney is back at Riot according to his Linkedin. He left Riot earlier this year to work at Bluehole as /u/PUBG_Riggles

First official comment now that he's back

I came back! Like three weeks ago. Riot has some REALLY dope stuff in the works, and imma get to be a part of it.

This might sound weird to say, given recent events, but: this is actually an amazing time to be at Riot. It's like a big Pokémon that just finally reached the level where it really needs to evolve if it's gonna learn new skills and keep growing. There are obvious changes that need to happen. And y'all know about some of them. But other changes are also happening behind the scenes that'll take more time to become apparent.

I hope y'all understand if I don't post here as much as I used to. Imma be pretty focused on some behind-the-scenes work. Really glad to be back.

Equality & Equity, the issue with PAX West, Room 613.

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 08:04 AM PDT

Equality & Equity, the issue with Room 613

The stories told to us in the past weeks give us an idea of the unhealthy working atmosphere that may be sometimes found at Riot Games. These are serious problems, to be taken seriously by those who must work to solve them. And Riot did take them seriously. They even offered the community a set of steps they planned to take.

https://www.riotgames.com/en/who-we-are/our-first-steps-forward

Inclusiveness, equality in the work space and a tolerant and professional attitude are all important factors in a healthy social environment. This goes without saying. So Riot took steps forward to include people, and to repair what damage they may have caused both to their image and to their appeal as a prospective company for ambitious young designers and students.

They also did this:

https://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/community/community-events/riot-pax-west

Room 613 is a room reserved for Women and Non-Binary people until 2:30, at which time visitors will no longer have their access restricted by gender. Putting aside issues such as the nebulous question of Riot's capability to judge the gender identity of people entering the room accurately, this does bring up a lot of issues.

https://i.imgur.com/2d1gow0.png

In this short Twitter exchange, we are able to discern one of the most reprehensible problems with the current 'inclusiveness' movements today: Equity over Equality.

While this debate could go on for hours and spread far beyond our point of interest, we will summarize it to some extent. Equality, in the context of a workspace, stands for equal opportunity. All people are afforded the chance to submit their CV, apply for the job, and be judged purely upon their skills and talents. Following this, the recruiters select the people most qualified for the job, regardless of anything but their skills, talents and capability to execute the job to its fullest extent.

Equity, however, is a term that has some seriously dubious implications, and is, at its core, an impossibility. If Equality stands for Equality of Opportunity, Equity stands for Equality of Outcome. You no longer only look at the skills and talents of those which you wish to hire. You include a new rule. "We must make sure that we have X amount of each gender in the workspace." (Even though there are obviously qualified personnel within all demographics, to favor one above the other begins to pave the path towards Equity.)

Now this is a worrying rule, for we are already forgoing the concept of talent and skill deciding the demographic disparity in the workspace. We decide instead, for example, that we must have 50% women and 50% men. This is the new tenant for recruiters to judge potential applicants upon. But another question arises then. And herein lies the impossibility of Equity. Should we also look at the 50% of women, and make sure that 25% are white, 25% are asian, 25% are black and 25% are hispanic? But then, should we also divide the hispanic section of our quota by income? What about weight, or looks? It wouldn't be fair if we only had people who are deemed to be attractive. Should we make sure that we have people who have a bachelor AND a masters, as well as people with only a bachelor? Or none? Equity cannot exist, for with every subcategory we wish to include, another five are created.

So here we are, faced with Room 613. Some of you might be getting annoyed, wondering what makes this such a huge deal? Why would this person be writing so much about such a small thing. In the end, is it really a bad thing to have a room reserved for Women and Non-Binary people (whoever they might be, since you clearly cannot identify them beyond trusting their word for it, so how will you prevent someone from lying their way into the room?) Well the reason is very simple. Such a move sets a precedent, a terrible precedent. It is the first step towards Equity, that strange attempt to distance ourselves from the judgement of quality in favor of quantity of specific peoples in a business space. The idea that skill should be disregarded in favor of equal distribution of gender, race, etc. This problem is accentuated by the fact that Riot Games is a large company in the gaming industry and wields significant cultural influence.

To begin by separating two groups, then presenting to a specific one a specific set of lectures and information about a set of specific jobs in a workplace, while denying to the other this opportunity is a sign of Equity. Disregarding the possibility of equality of OPPORTUNITY, in favor of giving a specific set of advantages to one social strata or gender group.

Some people claim this is virtue signalling. Virtue signalling stands for: "To take a conspicuous but essentially useless action ostensibly to support a good cause but actually to show off how much more moral you are than everybody else."

This might not be the best definition of the action, however, despite certain aspects appearing to be correct. This is not a useless action. It might even be a terribly effective action vis-à-vis to the standpoint of Riot Games on certain issues. However, it might very well be a move to improve the damage that Riot Games' image incurred in the past weeks. A flawed move, even if it was born from good intentions, as so many are. There is hope, that by now the danger that Equity poses has been clearly demonstrated. The death of quality in favor of balanced demographical representation should be warning enough.

Do not reward people for their intrinsic state of being. Reward them for the qualities which they bring to you and your associates.

EDIT: Thank you to /u/changmas and /u/AnthonyMJohnson for representing some very well thought out points that go against what this post says.

Forcing players to look for detailed information on external sources and not updating the client regularly shouldn't be the "standard" and it gives new players a worse experience

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 04:41 AM PDT

The current client has a lot of issues and it lacks many tools asked from the community, but it's primary uses should always be provided, these being, the ability to actually play the game and as a source of information for the players about the game. I want to focus on the second part:

In it's most basic function, the Client should allow players to see detailed informations about the champions and their abilities

Right now, if a player wanted to look up information about a champion they don't know or have access too (for example: if it's not in the free rotation), they will find:

- Lack of detailed descriptions of the abilities explaining their interactions and basic functions

- Nonexistent numbers for damage, ratios, type of damage, etc.

- Outdated information and clips of the abilities

Using the most recent rework as an example for all these issues, Nunu.

Corrently if you look at Nunu's in-client page, you will see this description for Biggest Snowball Ever, by contrast, this is what you will see if you know to go to the Wikia page for Nunu.

This isn't just simplifying the descriptions, this is hiding crucial information on how the ability functions from the players, and it shouldn't be the standard for the descriptions of champions abilities in the client.

I don't agree with it, but I get why numbers aren't in the client, since they often get changed in patches, but abilities don't get functionally changed that often.

Lack of a proper workflow

I don't understand how a company of the size of Riot Games is unable to realize a proper workflow, there's no reason for new champion reworks to not have all their clips and other information properly updated at the release of the champion, which is the case for Akali and Nunu, that still show old clips of their abilities, and can be confusing to new players

In a game with a locked cast of characters, new (and old) players:

- Shouldn't be forced to wait for them to show up in free rotation to be able to see their toolkits

- Shouldn't be forced to look for external sources of information when the function is already in the client but isn't properly managed

TL;DR: If a new player joins the game right now, the client is their only access to champion information, which of this moment is lacking in crucial information or not updated at all. This is detrimental to the new user experience, and even to the entire community if they don't know where to look for it

Wrote this for a Spartan history class last semester. Pls Riot, help a brotha out. https://imgur.com/co8yVAm

edit: for those asking for a works cited, we were only to do research using primary, ancient sources which were to be cited in-text and we turned in our work of fiction's information (aka all the lore pages about Panth on league's website) directly to the teacher for approval before the writing process started

I ended up getting an A on both the paper and an A- in the class I believe

Edit2: also game name is Twisdom if anyone wants to play

Eu LCS Summer split’s top 4 teams do not contain a single Korean import.

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 10:11 AM PDT

With the top 4 teams being Fnatic, Misfits, Schalke and Vitality, there will not be a single Korean import player in the top 4 of the EU LCS. In previous splits, it was frequently G2 who had Korean players, first with Expect, then Wadid. This fact just seemed interesting to me, seeing how over in NA, korean players like Ssumday, and Impact are very important for their teams. Yet in EU, the level of young homegrown talent is insane, with players like Upset and Jiizuke rising every year and making a name for themselves

Leblanc is disproportionately uncool to how much damage she does.

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 12:31 PM PDT

*Casio unleashes a stone glare and fangs people. Also a giant snake.

*Talon dissappears in a hail of blades and cuts your throat.

*Even Zoe smacks you with a ping pong ball made of fkn stars or whatever.

Leblanc jumps on you and deals her damage how? The strength of perfume? The sheer ugliness and poor rendering of her cape?

All jokes aside I never could understand what is supposed to be dealing damage to you when she uses w. 'Distortion' doesnt even sound like it should hurt.

Riot increases security for LCS!

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 09:38 PM PDT

TL;DR: No bags allowed at LCS, metal detector screenings, fan meetings optional for the players, post game fan high-fives are also optional.

I just got this email from Riot about increased security! I'm thrilled that they are taking the right steps to increase security for everyone involved.

"Hi -,

Thank you for being a fan of the NA LCS and for planning your visit to our studio in West LA to watch and cheer for your favorite teams live! Our show thrives on the energy, enthusiasm, and fandom of our attendees, and we thank you for your attendance and excitement. The NA LCS Events team would like to update you with a few adjustments to our security policy of which we'd like you to be mindful. If you have any follow-up questions after reading the above, please reach out to Tickets@RiotGames.com and someone from our team will respond as soon as possible.

Changes You'll See Throughout 2018

Beginning with Semifinals on Saturday, 9/1, and continuing through Regional Qualifiers 2018, the following augmentations will be made to our home studio security protocol: All fans and guests in attendance, professional players, production crew, contractors, and Riot staff will be screened through metal detection and thorough bag search. No exceptions. If you are on NA LCS property, you will be screened. No backpacks will be allowed on NA LCS property unless you are an employee, in which case your bag will be thoroughly searched. While in the past we've allowed attendees and guests to bring in backpacks to help carry their merch, electronics, and personal items, we are deciding to limit bag size to 9" x 6" x 3". This means small purses and clutch bags will be allowed for personal items, but they will be thoroughly searched. Prepare to step to the side and have your bag screened separately if you wish to bring a purse, clutch, or small bag. This is being done to eliminate the risk of any concealed weapons being brought onto our premises. For the comfort of our guests we will have female security officers present in addition to male officers to complete these bag searches. Meet the Pros will no longer take place outside. While we are still coordinating how we may present this experience to our fans over the next season, we have to weigh the security of our pros against the possibility of physical threat. Meet the Pros will now be held inside the Battle Arena after the matches wrap, with security officers present and within arms' reach of the pros at all times. Also, Meet the Pros will also be voluntary for teams, meaning we can no longer assure the attendance of every competing team on every game day. We are aware that this is the highlight of many fans' visits to NA LCS Studios, however, we believe the best course of action to be in securing the space and allowing teams to decide their participation. Similarly, Winners' Walk High-Fives will be optional for teams. Player Management will be presenting the option of Winners' Walk to teams before they commence their games, and it will be up to the teams' discretion as to whether they want to visit the foot of stage to engage in high-fives with the audience. While we love this moment for our fans and for our broadcast, we want to respect all team wishes to maintain personal space when desired. Simultaneously, there will be a noticeable presence of security officers and event staff in the crowd near the foot of stage should a team choose to engage in high-fives. Anyone caught violating the personal space of pros will be blacklisted from NA LCS events for the foreseeable future. We are not taking breaches of personal space lightly, and we respect that our fans do not dismiss our wishes for the comfort of our pros. Similarly, if you try to bring in any item that could be deemed a weapon, you will also face a potential blacklisting. Our security team is professionally trained and Rioters will always be on-site to assist with any grievances, but as a rule of thought: if someone could think the item is a weapon, do not bring it to NA LCS. Cosplay is still permitted and encouraged, but we will need you to walk through metal detection and have any foam or worbla weapons screened. When possible, please avoid using metal components in your cosplay, as we cannot guarantee that all components of your cosplay will be deemed safe for entry. The Team Tailgate Zone will be reevaluated for potential risks, with a possibility of the program being ended. While we love they hype we've been able to bring to fans with the tailgate zone in our lot this year, we cannot guarantee that it will continue into 2019 without further iteration to how we can best secure an outdoor activation. We are leaving the decision to participate in Team Tailgate Zone up to team discretion, as with all public-interaction activations. While these extra security measures may seem to dampen the excitement of attending NA LCS live, we believe them to be the responsible next steps following the incident in Jacksonville last weekend. We are certain that NA LCS will still be an exciting and rewarding experience for all who attend, and we don't want our fans to believe we have traded hype and the excitement of the moment for security procedure. This program is always evolving, always getting better, and the more time we have to personalize it to our show while simultaneously considering the needs of our players and community, the stronger and less intrusive it will become.

Thank you for understanding our desire to provide a safe space for our fans, staff, and professional players to assemble, and please don't hesitate to reach out to us at Tickets@RiotGames.com with any feedback or follow-up questions. We will continue to iterate on the best way to provide a safe environment for everyone on-site at NA LCS Studios and at Finals, and we will update our security policies for 2019 to balance the bespoke nature of our esports with the best practices of the sporting event security industry.

Below you will find some context on the current security measures we have in place that would have prevented a tragedy like the one in Jacksonville from occurring at NA LCS Studios. These measures have been in place since 2016, and will see the addition of the above-mentioned enhancements starting this coming weekend. Thanks!

Existing Security Measures at NA LCS Studios (June 2016 to present day):

For context around our existing security procedures at NA LCS Studios: Events team has used metal detection and bag search at every event that NA Esports has produced (all NA LCS events- including Spring and Summer Finals- and internationally at MSI, Worlds, Rift Rivals, and All-Star Event) since the start of Summer Split 2016. This includes all of our home studio shows as well as every NA Esports-produced road show (Los Angeles, Toronto, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Barcelona, Vancouver, Boston, China, Miami, Paris, and upcoming with Oakland and throughout Korea). After the tragic Christina Grimmie incident in June 2016 Events team considered it imperative to develop a security plan that would be mindful of and two steps ahead of the type of threats exemplified in Jacksonville last weekend, which is why we work weekly with licensed and insured security managers and security companies to continue evolving our home studio security plan for weekly games. The current measures at NA LCS events are routinely audited by the LAPD to make sure they are consistent with the best practices of the security industry, always include metal detection and bag search upon entrance as well as a secure perimeter, utilize security posts at all critical junctions and cameras for visibility, and are designed expressly to prohibit incidents like the one in Jacksonville from happening. On the road, Events team and our security managers, who are retired police officers with years of large event experience doing sporting events at major stadiums for ESPN, NFL, and MLB, along with the venues' security management teams (who we've found to also be on high alert for these types of incidents), spend hours developing a strong security plan with contingencies, guard posts, rally points, and security visibility at all entrances as well as in our common spaces, concourses, and on the event floor. Riot's main campus security manager, also a retired police officer, has assisted Events team in devising emergency preparedness plans focused on safety that we tailor to every event we produce. At many venues and now at our home studio shows, Rioters also have to go through metal detectors and bag search with crew when utilizing the stage door so that no weapons may enter via staff bags or personnel. Depending on the road show venue we will utilize walk-through mags (like at our home studio) or metal detector wands, which are as effective as walk-through mags when used by trained security officers, but take longer when moving large groups through a security checkpoint (because of the 1:1 time it takes to wand a person). Often times we will use a combination of the two. Bag search is always utilized at our events, and many of our larger arenas will not even allow backpacks or large bags to enter, screened or not, as standard procedure. We are adopting this policy for NA LCS Studios. We establish secure perimeters at all outdoor gathering areas within our road show events, including our tailgating sections and team zones as will be found at Oakland Summer Finals, which will utilize a perimeter that secures the area of the Coliseum as well as Oracle Arena for the concurrent games happening that day. Because this is more difficult at NA LCS Studio games, we are revisiting any activations that take place outdoors, including Team Tailgating Zone and Meet the Pros. While our perimeter is secure at NA LCS Studios, the openness of our location on Olympic Avenue, with a number of buildings in the area, means we must continue evaluating our outdoor activations in light of the Vegas tragedy last year. Our retired police officer security managers for road shows escort teams through any open areas, often with the assistance of venue security. We secure pathing ahead of time and maintain a pace to keep our teams moving from Point A to Point B. If you see us walking with teams, please don't be offended when we refuse to stop for autographs; this is the reason why. At every road show we contract the local police department to perform dog-assisted bomb sweeps before opening the property to a secure perimeter. The dogs make sure the area is clean, the secure perimeter makes sure nothing new comes in. We often utilize plain-clothes police officers at our events, who are mindful of all entering our property and add an additional set of eyes to our perimeter. We are considering utilizing uniformed officers for specific events in the future to show a display of authority in the space. We in Riot Events and Riot Security are taking these types of incidents very seriously, and want all fans, guests, players, and crew to know that though they may not see all components of a security plan, there is in fact an ever-iterating strategy in place with the utmost importance being placed on the safety of all persons on site.

Thank you for understanding that your safety is our top priority, and we will not settle for any security plan that is not fully vetted to ensure our safety standards are consistent with the best of the industry. Thank you, and see you at the NA LCS!"

Fun Fact: Every midlaner playing in the LCS Playoffs today is from Denmark!

Really crazy how a country so small (relative to the rest of the world) can produce so many great players.

For those who don't know, the players are Caps, Sencux, Bjergsen, and Jensen!

An in-game mouse over stat for how much damage Infinity Edge has converted would be awesome.

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 04:50 AM PDT

10% of critical strike damage to champions is converted to true damage.

Riot could definitely implement this, imo. It'd be another cool stat ADC mains, and other users of the item to look at and keep track of throughout the game. Perhaps something similar to Phantom Dancer, in which it displays how many 'deaths defied' when hovered over.
