World of Warcraft - META: /r/WoW Has Resumed Normal Moderation

META: /r/WoW Has Resumed Normal Moderation

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 06:59 AM PDT

Hey folks,

Just as a quick follow to our previous post that said we would have relaxed moderation from the 12th-19th, /r/WoW has now resumed normal moderation. (Well, as normal as it can be.)

Common questions, low effort content, and repetitive or non-WoW related memes will now be removed once again.

Thanks for the laughs and for being relatively chill while the mod team got up to 120 and all the new and returning players got up to speed or started their new adventures in Azeroth.

Cheers,

The /r/WoW Mod Team

Edit: Take our quick 1 question survey about how you thought Relaxed Moderation worked out for launch week.

Exclusive AMA - Tuesday 28 (2pm EST) - John Staats, Blizzard's first 3D Level Designer, is funding the WoW Diary, a book on the development of World of Warcraft

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 02:09 PM PDT

Description

Johnathan Staats will be doing an AMA on /r/wow Tuesday, 28th of August, 2pm EST (or 8pm CEST) to promote the World of Warcraft Diary. Staats was Blizzard's first Level Designer on World of Warcraft. He built famous instances such as Molten Core, Ahn'Qiraj, Scholomance, and so on.

You will be able to ask him questions regarding the creation of World of Warcraft, whether on the technical side, or the conceptual one, about the challenges they had to overcome, the solutions they found, ideas they may have had, the design of zones and dungeons, etc.

World of Warcraft Diary

With Blizzard's approval, Staats has decided to compile the great amount of notes he took all throughout the development of the successful MMORPG into the World of Warcraft Diary. This project will be funded via a Kickstarter that will begin when this AMA launches, Tuesday 28.

This book provides a unique, detailed look into the development of World of Warcraft, from conceptualizing to implementing. It reveals never-seen-before information on World of Warcraft. It is also comprised of 130 pictures and provides insight into the life of Blizzard developers, along with tackling the great themes of game development in general including lore and gameplay.

Exclusive excerpt

John has provided an exclusive excerpt from the Diary for /r/wow ! It notably shows plans for the creation of Stormwind City (Stormwind Keep was originally in the center !)

Other excepts and pictures can be found on the WoW Diary's website.

These may enable your curiosity or help you find inspiration for questions to ask !

See you next week for the AMA !

Honestly, I'd have been better off locking my level to 111.

Blood troll aesthetic is genuinly horrifying and scary, and drustvar witches aren't far behind. These threats feel so much more real and horrifying than void, fel, sha, or nightmare. My hats off to the artists and designers behind these themes, you guys are amazing.
