Remove low level divine locations from Gorajo Dungeon

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 02:16 AM PDT

No one caps on divine bronze or divine tree. It's prif and has high requirements. I don't understand why there are such low level divine spawns. Also, increase the world hop limit. You hop like 15 times over 10 minutes and it locks you out of joining new worlds. More divine yews please! Waking up specifically for reset is hard.

[Whatever happened to...] GameJam 2018 Projects? Build-a-Backlog/Ninja Fix surveys?

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 02:04 AM PDT

1st off, props to the JMods for being super transparent recently (like with the August - Month Ahead, and comments on reddit/twitter/social media)

note: a large portion of this post had been in draft form since before the month ahead, so sorta antiquated

(i'm trying to update it where i can...)

but it still backs my rationalization

(and refreshes players on updates they might be looking forward to!)

With the recent cancel pauseation of TAPP (Thursday, All-Day, Personal Projects; an outlet of creative freedom from the devs) in exchange for more focus on big projects (Mobile, M+S, PoF, ED, Ninjas, MTX)...

Whatever happened to the GameJam 2018 projects?

I understand these projects were not promised 100% to be added... but legit dev time was put into them, and alot of the showcased projects would be a helpful addition.

Update: the Elite Dungeon team (Judgesters) will be working on releasing some GameJam/TAPP/QoL projects til the end of the year... ed3 "delayed" til next year
but what was changed from last year's almost-immediate release schedule of GameJam projects? how come it's taken this long to only produce so little? and why are we repeating the same problem of putting stuff on the back-burner (ED3)?

for comparison:

GameJam 2017 (18-19 February 2017)

time = duration from GameJam → release

JMod/Team Update ? Time Notes
Mod Ramen & Mod Luke F Lumbridge Crater ✔️ 17 Days
Mod Ryan Skilling Outfits ✔️ 17 Days
Mod Mohawk Interface Pets ✔️ 17 Days
Mod Orion & Mod Stu Arc Improvements ✔️ 31 Days
Mod Timbo Luck Rework ✔️ 38 Days
Mod Shauny Buff Bar Improvements ✔️ 51 Days

Mod Stu Quest Improvements ✔️ 262 Days
Mod Harrison Aura Bag ✔️ 339 Days

Mod Osborne & Mod Krista Murder Mystery Quest/Needle Skips "Hit a couple of hiccups." & Mod Krista is no longer at jagex. Possibly picking up after ED2
Mod Shogun More Abyssal Slayer Creatures Got some concept art (1 year later)
Mod Lenny & Mod Campfire One Small Favour Sequel Mod Lenny moved to OSRS
Mod Ramen, Mod Ryan, & Mod Ollie Vorago Quest Mod Ollie moved to Unannounced MMO & taken over by Obo and Raven in GJ 2018?

a majority of these projects were released less than 3 months after they were developed/showcased...

on the otherhand;

GameJam 2018 (14-15 April 2018)

JMod/Team Update ? Notes
Mod Shauny Clan improvements ✔️ was partly Mod Moltare's pet project before he left Jagex

Mod Krista Skill Guide rework Mod Krista is no longer at jagex
Mod Kelpie Garden of Tranquility sequel
Mod Doctor Steel key ring added to toolbelt
Mod Deg Mod Deg's Sequence Finale Mod Deg moved to Unannounced MMO

it's been 4 months, and we've only just gotten 1 update out of it (and 2 partials).

some of these are A+ fixes (camera facing north, key ring on toolbelt, QoL), or needed urgently (BH removal, new player experience)

Where do they stand on the backlog, exactly? and why have they been pushed so far down?
What even is on the backlog? and what constitutes it's sorting?
What is holding up development? (probably going to be announced at RuneFest, let's hope it's worth the wait, Unannounced MMO?)

With (almost) every team working on a big update, i'm scared we will have yet another dry spell of no content...
I definitely think there should be a "Freelance" Dev team (or 2) (exactly like what the Judgesters are doing atm, but full-time; and not at the expense of planned content) to work on small, community-driven/polled updates/QoL fixes/finishing up TAPP projects, so we're not left with barebones release months (like July) with squat all...

and also, by the sounds of it, ALOT of updates have been completed, but "awaiting QA" for awhile... can we get a list of all the completed, but not QA'ed updates? perhaps run a poll for all of them, and gauge the playerbase to decide what we want to be released, so you can rearrange the QA list to be more inline with the players; (and hire more QA)

and speaking about backlog..

I made a list of all the answers in the April and May "Build-a-Backlog" surveys, sorted by vote count
granted, i don't have the player data that jagex has (maxed, ironman, etc.) so not really taking into account all the data

what happened to the June, July, and/or August surveys?

(although, there's plenty of content already in the air from the last 2 surveys, so i'll cut them some slack)

still waiting on that Max Guild Improvements repoll for "next month"

and I also made a list of all the answers in the Ninja Fixes surveys

here's a list of the fixes we still haven't received;

incase someone at jagex forgot...

Ninja Survey #1 (30 October 2017)

Poll Question % Yes
Should we add the ability to empty gem/coal bags and other items into the bank deposit interface? 91.46%
Should we display an item's guide price on the Grand Exchange search results? 87.16%
Should Kingdom of Miscellania reset at midnight? 83.08%
Should we make a different inventory icon that represents full runecrafting pouches? 81.97%

and an honourable mention to the questions that would of passed, had the threshold stayed at 65% (a majority)

Poll Question % Yes
Should we add strykewyrm contracts to slayer masters? 72.67%
Should we add an in-area broadcast to all boss item drops? 67.94%
Should we add a message that notifies you when you would have gotten a duplicate skill or boss pet? 68.25%

Ninja Survey #2

Poll Question % Yes
Should the green friend dot take priority over the orange clan member dot when displayed on the minimap? 78.16%
Should we graphically update the Dagannoth King boss pets to match the model of their larger counterparts? 77.20%

and an honourable mention to the questions that would of passed, had the threshold stayed at 65% (a majority)

Poll Question % Yes
Should we add a friends-only broadcast when completing the Slayer Codex? 72.65%
Should we change the Master Quest Cape broadcast so that it broadcasts across all worlds? 71.16%
Should portable locations show the display name of the person who placed it? 66.37%

I hope most of these projects can get to see the light of day...

that being said, can't wait to see what's in store for RuneFest!

Reminder to get the channelled ability bug fixed ASAP please.

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 09:50 PM PDT

I know this was posted about yesterday but I just want to reiterate it. Currently doing Nex or Telos is a hit or miss. Using channelled abilities get randomly cancelled and it's making high mobility PvM so frustrating. Snipe straight up roots you for 4 ticks. Please fix ASAP Jagex :)

The thieving cape perk does not stack with Ardougne cape at Prif elves, intended or a bug?

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 10:24 PM PDT

Quote from the Game Updates news post on 6 August 2018: "Thieving - All drops are noted, and stacks with Ardougne Cape if owned".

However, I am getting caught (strike 1) by the Prif elves much sooner while wearing thieving cape as compared to when I am wearing the Ardougne Cape 4. I have tested both the master thieving cape and max cape with the thieving perk and results are the same.

Is that intended or a bug? It would be a waste if it was intended as the thieving cape perk is really useful, but the Ardougne cape effect is too significant to give up. Any confirmation would be greatly appreciated.

Nostalgia Is More Bitter Than It is Sweet

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 03:32 PM PDT

I never realized how much I miss 2009 to 2011 RuneScape until I watched a video pertaining to the end of RS Classic wherein the publisher shared a few of his thoughts on nostalgia and all of the memories he had in Classic.

As a player who joined in 2009, I can't relate to his and the Classic community's exact memories of the game, but I know exactly how it feels to say goodbye to a game like that. Well, actually, not really. I never quit RuneScape for Old School because that era was two years before I even joined. Instead of seeing the game I love shut down, I watched it change around me slowly as time passed. I never got really pissed. I never thought for a second that the game had changed too much because it was just happening slowly. No huge leaps except the Evolution of Combat.

I watched the graphics slowly change, the quests, my friends list as players I met in the game quit angrily or left without a trace. There's something wrong with me, I guess, because I still have players on my friends list who I know will never return to the game. People I met years ago and am just incapable of forgetting.

Changes kept happening, but they were never too fast for me until rather recently. The logical part of me still realizes that RuneScape has improved in great strides since 2009, but the emotional part of me just wants to petition Jagex to release a 2009 version of RuneScape and just never update it except to fix major bugs or ban bots, even though in reality that's a ridiculous expectation with absolutely zero chance of happening.

I still get really excited for new updates. I love killing Nex and Araxxor in an environment with good graphics and an exciting combat system, but every once in a while, I teleport to Lumbridge and just walk around down the road with all the cows and goblins, upstairs to the bank in the Castle that's no longer used, and I just feel like this game will never be the same as it once was.

The same thing happened for me with the Elder Scrolls. Skyrim has existed for over 7 years now but I always find myself returning to Oblivion to play it again, because it's familiar and I feel at home in the universe. I can't wait to see what the Elder Scrolls 6 will be like, but I bet I'll find myself wandering around Cheydinhall slapping people in the streets just to get the guards to say their iconic "You've violated the law" speech.

And I don't get this part of me. I feel comfort in the fact that some other players feel the same way as I do but at the same time, I look at myself as someone who is just aging and unable to accept reality. I just feel like that old man who carries his walkman to the park with him listening to the Beatles on repeat seemingly unaware that people all around him are living 60 years in the future with objects, family and friends that are admittedly better than all of the things in his world that have either been torn down, shut down, have fallen into obscurity, or have been re-purposed.

Why is it that our emotions don't travel at the same speed as time does? Why does nostalgia creep up on us uninvited and make us remember an imperfect game, an imperfect time in our lives, as if it was the best thing that ever existed? Why can't we teleport back to Lumbridge in 2018 or in 2019 and explore it for the first time again like we did 8, 10, or 15 years ago? How did RuneScape evolve so slowly without us realizing until suddenly it's not even the same game as it used to be?
