Monthly Challenge! -- August 9th, 2018: Cobra Command Posted: 08 Aug 2018 11:09 PM PDT (I noticed there hasn't been a monthly challenge in a while, so I messaged a mod and asked if I could post my own. So enjoy!) The scenario can be found here. COBRA COMMAND:
For this challenge, use the seed Snake-Eyes with the default world generation settings and start in any boreal forest. As with all monthly challenges, there is no restriction on difficulty or mods. When you're done, either upload a picture of your barn with 50+ cobras and your animals tab to show that they're all happy and healthy, or upload a picture of what otherwise became of your colony of cobra connoisseurs. Good luck and have fun! [link] [comments] |
Can we have Solar Flare event disable mechanoids for duration? Posted: 14 Aug 2018 03:21 PM PDT It would be a nice "every cloud has a silver lining" moment on my polar ice playthrough as I watch all my crops wither and die. [link] [comments] |

The story of my colonists, 32 year old Laila and her 53 year old daughter, Melly. Posted: 14 Aug 2018 08:26 PM PDT I had a 53 year old colonist named Melly. She's been with the colony since the very beginning. She's a vat grown soldier so it should come as no surprise that she is an extremely skilled figher and marksman. Unfortunately, long before she even arrived at our colony, she'd lost one eye and has nasty stab wound in the other. So she can barely see 10 meters ahead of her. I still let her go hunting, even though she fails to shoot a sleeping alpaca in the head at point blank range. It makes her happy so I let her. About a year later a wanderer joined our colony. 32 year old Laila. Now Laila is an artist and a writer. Not interested at all in fighting, it seems she has had her fair share of violence in her past and is now simply incapable of harming anyone. This was a disappointment to be sure, but it turns out she's an excellent cook and competent researcher. So we were happy to include her in the family. But wait, .. it turns out Laila and Melly are actually related. And Melly is Laila's daughter. But how can a 53 year old woman be the daughter of a 32 year old? Well that's where the vat-grown soldier bit comes in, along with the fact that there was a period of cryosleep involved on the way to this planet. Laila is a lesbian. I figured that she wanted to have a daughter and had contracted a clonelab to grow a soldier for her. Things were getting apocaliptic on the old home planet so Laila saved up for a ticket out of this mess. To be frozen and shipped off to another planet. Unfortunately she didn't have enough money to pay for her daughter to be frozen as well. So she abandoned her. Melly grew up without parents. Forced to fight other peoples wars as a mercenary. All she wanted was to find her mother. To find answers. It took a long time for her to save enoug money for a trip to the cryogenic shipping company. By the time she finally got enough she was already an old woman. 53 years old. Her mother had heard about an older woman, a vat grown soldier. How she faught off raids with her one damaged eye. How she built houses for others and explored ancient ruins. How she became a feared enemy and respected ally of others. Laila couldn't resist the possibility. Maybe it really was her daughter? So she began to search. And one day she found our colony and found Melly. So the 32 year old mother and 52 year old daughter reunited. It is quite awkward to say the least, but beautiful in its own way. Melly is much more of a mother to Laila than she ever was. She's lived a longer, rougher life. But here they are now, together at last. They've forgiven each other and are content to live out their days on this world. [link] [comments] |
Decided to get back into RimWorld after not playing in 3 years. Posted: 14 Aug 2018 10:48 PM PDT Went with the 1.0 version because I hadn't really read much on it yet. So a LOT has changed. Like holy shit, animal taming is a thing now. Also, the map is completely different. You aren't just stuck on one spot. Caravans are weird I haven't tried them out yet because I found it scary. Animal Taming took me a while to get the hang off. I was excited at first since I'd read they could be used as haulers. But I was quickly disappointed as most of the animals I tamed couldn't be taught how to haul. I wanted to do an organ harvesting playthrough but I found it hard to do since my colony got slammed with debuffs. Found the debug menu and gave everyone the psychopath trait which fixed that. Turrets have been made quite useless now, unfortunately. This sucks because I worked really hard to try out the newer sniper and auto turrets but the sniper turret I built is quite useless and the barrel wears out really quick. Getting steel is almost always an issue. Not gonna lie at some point I said screw it and spawned in a bunch. Took me a while to realize I am supposed to be constantly on the lookout for it, either through trading or deconstructing fallen ship pieces. Components are another huge issue. You need them to construct most electronic things. That's not too bad except you also need them for repairing stuff. Why does everything break down constantly? That feels odd. Almost everything is constantly breaking down. Took me a while to get the hang of medicine in the beginning as well. Get that Heal root farm going early boys. I also think there is a huge incentive to trade nowadays. I've found the best way for me is to farm smokeleaf and sell the joints. Also, I have my art goblin who does nothing but spew out grand sculptures. Raids have been odd. For some reason, the only faction that attacks me is one that is extremely primitive. This makes it easy to defeat in some way but also makes the expanding harder. Since they drop shitty weapons I don't get good weapons/loot from defeating them. Also they aren't that easy either. Since there are a bunch of them they can just rush you with melee weapons. There was a strategy to avoid that so now I am just bored cause raids are pretty easy to deal with and give me no real rewards. I like the ancient danger thing. They were an interesting challenge. Infestations were a bitch to deal with. I honestly am not a fan of them. Sieges are kinda cool but I had no clue they could still hit my base even though it's in a mountain. Overall I am really enjoying getting back into this game but I think I should have gone with beta 18 instead. Then I'd be able to try out some of the mods I've been watching youtube reviews of. I can consistently make it rain by setting fires? Posted: 14 Aug 2018 10:51 PM PDT There is a forest full of bodies that I would like to clear out. I've cut a fire break and set fire to it, only for it to start raining a moment later. Ugh, annoying but whatever. I wait for the storm to end and I relight the fire. But before the fire progresses 10 ft, another storm! Wow. I'm super unlucky. I wait for the rain to pas and yet again, relight the fire......... almost immediately, a thunderstorm! What gives? Posted: 14 Aug 2018 02:53 PM PDT My colony was on verge of dying out after two raids by heavy charge rifles equipped centipedes and pirate army. My last standing pawn (original pawn I started with) managed to take down a final centipede and tried to mend himself so he can go help fallen pawns but alas, he fell unconscious. Then a man in black appeared. It says he's seen the trouble we're in and came to help out. Nice! He almost instantly fell into a daze, then binged on drugs while my colony died to infection and starvation. His traits were depressive, chemical fascination and brawler (but came equipped with a pistol.) He already had low mood upon arrival, and entering bloody scene caused him to break. Gee, thanks for your help. [link] [comments] |
