It’s Time To FIX PUBG.

Posted: 07 Aug 2018 06:03 PM PDT

"FIX THE GAME."

This is a phrase we've been hearing a lot lately. Since we released PUBG as an Early Access game last year, the game has grown exponentially, and we've been fortunate enough to have millions of incredibly passionate players like you. However, we haven't always been able to meet your expectations. Simply put, the game still has many unresolved issues.

The bottom line is, you're the reason for our success. You've stuck with us, and now it's time for us to deliver the fixes you've been asking for.

That's why today we're announcing a new campaign called "FIX PUBG." For the duration of the campaign, we'll be entirely focused on addressing problems with the game, including bugs, long-needed quality-of-life improvements, and fundamental performance improvements. Throughout this campaign we'll share specifics about what we're working on and the expected time it'll take to address the issues. Then we'll deliver on our promises.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

To kick things off right, we're beginning the FIX PUBG campaign with a patch that hits live servers today. It includes several fixes and quality-of-life improvements that you've been asking for:

  • Limb penetration will be implemented (if a player model's hands or limbs are blocking a more vital area, bullets will now deal full damage for that area).

  • Graphics "sharpening" will be added as separate toggle in the settings.

  • You'll be able to mute individual teammates while in-game.

  • Quality-of-life improvements are coming to colorblind mode.

  • Quality-of-life improvements are also coming to loot stack splitting (more control).

  • Vehicle sounds will be reduced when driving in first-person perspective.

  • You'll be able to adjust your FPS cap (including by setting it to "uncapped").

  • You'll also be able to set your in-game FPS cap and lobby FPS cap separately.

Many of the improvements we'll be making to the PC version will naturally be carried over to the Xbox version of the game as well. We're committed to fixing problems for all our players.

FIX PUBG WILL CONTINUE

Of course, our dedication to improving PUBG will continue, even after the FIX PUBG campaign is over. For more info on upcoming changes, check out the FIX PUBG microsite. We'll be updating it regularly as the campaign progresses.

As always, we are humbled by your passion and dedication. Thank you for all your feedback and reports. We're looking forward to crushing these bugs and continuing to improve the game however we can.

The PUBG Team

Change the item drop slider to go to a minimum of 1 instead of 0.

Posted: 08 Aug 2018 07:20 AM PDT

There's no point for it to go to 0 because if we didn't want to drop anything, we wouldn't do the ctrl stack drop in the first place.

If the slider went to 1, we could quickly swipe it to the left to quickly drop a first aid or whatever for a teammate.

Having the ability to mute individual players is great, but can this be implemented in one of the upcoming QoL updates?

Posted: 08 Aug 2018 07:01 AM PDT

If PUBGs dream is to go as a competitive/esport game add proper ranks and make the PGI mode permanent.

Posted: 07 Aug 2018 10:21 PM PDT

If there were proper ranks, A LOT more people would play the game, think about it, if CS:GO had no ranks who would actually play it? Basically everyone there is just for the ranks and getting the highest rank they can. Adding just the standard bronze, silver, gold, platinum, etc. and rewards after each season, like H1Z1 has, for example if u are in the top 1% u get like 25k BP and a cosmetic item or other things like that.

If the games aim is to be a esport u need to allow players to play as the pro's, the PGI game mode was sick, but it HAS TO be permanent if this game wants to succeed as a esport game.

New update is awesome!

Posted: 08 Aug 2018 04:26 AM PDT

GOD DAMN! All I can say about the new update!

The improvement is really HUGE! Game looks way smoother, even with the same fps as I had, I feel like game runs much better.

My fav changes: - Sharpnes option - GAME CHANGER - Purple blood + purple croshair = my new love = GAME CHANGER

Also, when I land I can take items much faster.

First game I played on Sanhok - 12 kills I was able to notice EVERYTHING around me.

It looks like I'm really gonna trust you(Pubg Devs)... It's one of the best updates we've gotten.

It's totally a new experience to me. PS: I have 621 hours :)

Can we please please please see how many kills squad mates have?

Posted: 07 Aug 2018 07:49 PM PDT

Because:

  1. I'd like to know which squad mate to revive first in a do or die situation when playing with Randoms. If JohnnyArseFace has 6 kills and BestKillaEva has 0, I know who to throw my last smoke grenade on...
  2. Sometimes I have a lot of kills and yeah I would like some recognition for it.

And before you say it, I know I could watch the kill feed, but sometimes you miss it in all the action.

QOL Improvement and suggestion!

Please work and communicate with us OCE players to make the game fun for us again

Posted: 08 Aug 2018 02:23 AM PDT

Please.

I bought this game the day before OC servers went live so I could get a little bit of practice, later the next day after they went live I won my first game. I feel like that's not something I'm going to forget easily. The rush I got from that 1v1 was so different to any other game I've played, I remember all 3 kills, the shaky hands, the blood rush and the victory dance.

I've played through it all, strategically playing my back to Yasnaya so anyone who tried to fight me had 5fps, not using the Vector after it was released because I was above using such cheap tactics as a gun that instakilled anyone you looked at, looking up stats on the wiki that was really poorly done because we never got a lot of official stats or anything, the bridge to military not having any cover on it, & Waiting through so many lobby just for Angus to get on skype. I've had my fun with the game, So many hours of painful laughter, crashing, stupidly loud noises almost giving me tinnitus, rage, wins, uninstalls, random squad mates and I want more. But I can't get more.

Sorry for the sappy bullshit, but I fucking love this game.

3 Months ago our player base mysteriously disappeared. According to the devs this was simply just people leaving and our player base being too small. That was absolutely not the case. Overnight our player count dropped from 7k to 1k and no one could find a game for solos (the other modes were affected as well but I only had experience with solos) This happened with the update released on May 1. On the 19th of May we finally got a response from a community manager where they said that they had alerted the top men at PUBG of the issue. We next heard from them on May 25 when they said they were still investigating. Fast forward to the 6th of June. "I don't yet have any good info to share, other than that the devs are aware and looking into it." was the reply we got after over a months worth of waiting and being unable to play the game.

On to today, 3 months from when the matchmaking issue began, I think PUBG might finally be right. Our matchmaking issues could finally be down to player base. Although I have sat in a lobby for 30 minutes before fiddling with my map selection and getting in, I am happy to accept that the issue with OC servers may NOW be player base.

What I am not happy to accept is that nothing is being done to revive our server. I'm aware that nothing is ever instant but we've had 3 months of fuck all communication which leaves me, many of my friends and fellow players to believe that you have simply given up on us. To get "good" games we're playing on 150+ ping making early game almost impossible in the crowded areas of the map often resulting in 10-15 minutes of boredom at the start of every game. We shouldn't have to coordinate between ourselves to get games going with decent ping. That should be your job. Set up the servers and fix them when they stop working. I don't believe PUBG has ever owned up and said that the issues happening with the OC servers during May were their fault. I certainly never read an apology from PUBG corp about me being unable to play the game I paid for. This is what bothers me the most. Is communication so hard? The servers were working one day, and then the next day after an update they were not. PUBG just sat around and watched as player after player left.

Once again PUBG have laid out a promise. They will fix the game. They couldn't do it last time, or the time before and even the time before that. Why? No one knows because they simply stop communicating with us a week after they announce it. It's time for that to change.

I mean no offence to the community managers that I see in this sub. You seem like nice guys but your words no longer have any real meaning behind them. You're meant to be the bridge between the community and the company, but to me it really doesn't feel that way.

TWO AND A HALF MONTHS ago you alerted the top men at PUBG to the issue we were having and what did we ever hear back? "Oh yeah uhh they're working on it." "It looks like it is a population issue, there isn't enough people". Don't tell me there isn't enough people when there are over a hundred people syncing up to try and get into a game unless you're next going to tell me that games don't start unless there is 500 people in queue. Does PUBG not listen to you? Do they not tell you actually what is going on? Why are you so reluctant to talk with us about this issue that we had going on for months. I asked you a question in the stickied fix pubg thread regarding OC servers and not just that thread, there's multiple threads every week about OC that reach the front page of this sub but they never seem to get any replies from official community managers. If you guys are the connection between us and the dev team them why do i never see any announcements about the issues that our community is raising daily. Are you not telling them that there seems to be a large number of people who are frustrated that they are unable to play the game? Or are they just genuinely not listening to you or the issue? This is an honest question. I just want to know what's going on. If they don't give 2 fucks about us, please tell us so I can uninstall and then you can go ahead and remove the first person servers while we move on to a different game. If there is no chance that I will be able to get a good game in the near future please just say so that I can uninstall pubg and not get my hopes up every time that I hear there is a patch or something is being fixed.

This 'Fix PUBG' thing is the perfect time to try and revive the OC community. Nothing is ever instant. The game can't be fixed by changing 2 lines of code and I'm sure whatever the issue with our server was/is would not be fixed in 20 minutes before someone leaves the office for the week. Rome wasn't built in a day and this game has come so fucking far since I first played it. Don't get me wrong, it's far from perfect. So far from perfect. Yet to me it is so close to being perfect. If this Fix PUBG campaign actually works as intended, please take some time after it to revive the OC server. By this I mean taking time to make sure that the servers are working as intended for OC players. Once you're 100% sure that the servers are working as intended please make an announcement that the OC servers are back to 100%. We're all well aware that there were issues with it. Own up to them, apologise for it and then let us know that we can enjoy the game it's meant to be enjoyed.

If you think that the OC player base is too far gone and it will not be possible to restore the community to its former glory (or even better, 10 times that) then please work with us remaining players that so desperately want to play with decent ping. A company as successful as PUBG surely has some staff members that are great problem solvers, I bet they also have quite a few that love to play games. Please contact the mods of the OCE PUBG discord. Get a community manager and a member of the dev team to sit down together and come to the discord. Do some sort of Q&A in the discord and please take feedback of what we want to be done to the game to make it enjoyable again. If we're lucky enough that you do agree to this and announce it ahead of time, it will give us time as a community to come up with some ideas that can make the game fun for the remaining members. When you come to the discord with the dev team then we can propose what we want done to keep the player base afloat in our region and with the dev team member there, you will be able to tell us what is possible and what is not.

I'm talking 'simple' things such as starting games with 60-80 players instead of 100, rotating the maps around each day so we never have the issue of the player base split between maps, making the bigger maps have a smaller play area (like even mode but give us 1/4th of the map to play on) with half the players needed. Honestly I'm not a great problem solver but I know other members of this community are they will have banger suggestions to keep going.

If you and members of the dev team would be willing to make yourselves available to come and actively communicate with our region it would mean a lot to us and dispel any notion that you guys don't care about us as a region. The only reason there is for no communication with us is that you don't like us and want our server to die and if that's the case, be honest because communication is key. That's all I want.

The players are out there, they just need a reason to come back. No game comes close to PUBG on it's day but it seems like it's day is long gone down here.

I'd do almost anything to have stable, playable ping. I'd be a goddamn liar if I said I wasn't wearing my rose tinted glasses right now, but Take me back to 5fps Yasnaya, Having my character randomly flinch and grunt like he's being shot every 10 seconds, Not being able to heal until I drop both of my guns and then have to reload them after my meds finally work, Flash bangs that have a 50% chance of making your game crash if they hit you, just give me decent ping again. I want to love this game, please let me :(

Some in-depth suggestions to help "Fix PUBG"

Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:44 AM PDT

It's time to fix PUBG, why not help a bit with some technical thoughts on solutions of and all that? Coming from creating a website that is all about PUBG and having to deal with The files and UI a lot I thought I'd use some of that knowledge to get out some feedback. Please note that I'm not an expert and don't know how they work with their tools, those are just things that I noticed and think look like they need work.

THE UI

We all know it's web-based, a website basicly and having interacted with it quite a lot I noticed a few issues that come along with it. Generally though, web-technology is fine, if properly implemented.

Issues:

  1. Images are stored online and have to be accessed when watching crates etc.
  2. UI descriptions, Mission descriptions... are also stored online
  3. Almost everything is bunched together in one huge (5,81 MB) Javascript file (main.js), this includes all error messages, item names, descriptions... each in every supported language.

Suggestions:

1:

Skins and all images you see in the menu are stored online. The clunkyness of the UI often comes from having to download a ton of images before seeing them so they really should be stored offline in the client. Well... actually they are: all item images are stored in the Game files to be accessed with the ingame hud. If it somehow would be possible to access these images with the UI instead of having them dublicated on a server somewhere it would be a good step towards optimizing the UI.

2 & 3:

UI text, item descriptions, mission descriptions, error messages... each in every supported language are all stored in one huge Javascript file. I've seen some changes to it but it's still that one huge file.
The suggestion would be to split this up into various files, each language has it's own file and they get included depending on what language the user has set in the settings. This would prevent that everybody accesses everything in every language all the time. Depending on the content, it might also help to store error messages or item descriptions (just the messages) offline in a different file. I can imagine it would be possible to do that while preserving some of them online to be able to change them without having to update the client. Web technology also works offline so it should be possible to have a mix.

Skin Textures

  • The quality of the skin textures varies a lot, sometimes a Base color texture for Pants or a Jacket is tiny compared to just the normal map of a hat. With size I mean both Filesize aswell as resolution. I've only seen this with skins as it is what I interact with the most but maybe it's worth to take a look at environment textures aswell. If a coffee cup has a 4k normal map while a door has a 2k base color texture, I'd think that there is room for optimization, especially when there are a lot of props in the game like on sanhok.

Other Stuff

  1. Footstep sound on Sand is annoying as hell because it's sound cue seems bugged. It's so annoying I made a stupid video about it...
Usually footstep sounds are done using sound cues. A sound cue gets triggered and choses a random sound of about 6-8 different sounds, those get randomly changed slightly in pitch and loudness to make each footstep sound a bit different. This one has different sounds aswell but it seems to choose one particular sound without changing it at all in like 95% of the cases making it very annoying. Should be an easy fix. PLS muh ears <3

Those are some things I noticed and haven't really seen anything about on this subreddit or somewhere else, maybe it helps to increase performance in the UI or ingame and make footstep sounds not as annoying on sand. Again, I'm not an expert and maybe some of the stuff isn't actually a problem but to me it looked like it needs work. Cheers :)

No noise reduction for vehicles in FPP

Posted: 08 Aug 2018 08:43 AM PDT

Like the title says, I was playing with a couple of my friends in FPP and we couldn't hear the difference between the old vehicle noise and the reduced noise. Is anyone else having this same issue or is it just our imagination? If anyone has a side by side comparison, can you link it? Thank you in advance

Huge fps increase since patch, how is yours?

Posted: 08 Aug 2018 02:04 AM PDT

Hi guys So I just tried the new patch, before I was capped to 144fps, with some drops around 100.

Now with the patch, uncapped the max I saw was 270 fps!!!

The lowest I had was around 200!!!

Of course it will depend where I am on the maps but it's impressive.

Last year we were struggling to get 60 fps...

My specs are i7 8700k gtx 1080 16g of ddr4, most stuff on low except texture and AA

I guess it's time I increase a bit the details

GG bluehole

How is your fps now?
