Unpopular opinion: Mechathun is a boring card?

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 06:39 AM PDT

I am a lover of control style decks, especially control warrior. I love my slow games and games that require my brain to work instead of those turn 1 flood the board win the game kind of decks. But recently, with the rise of mechathun, I can no longer enjoy my long games. Druids literally draw their entire deck by turn 8 or 9 , and then just win from that. I thought mechathun was supposed to be that last resort card that can turn the tables when the game lasts till fatigue, but it turns out druids can draw their entire decks AND gain shit ton of armour. All in all, druids are broken and I think it made mechathun a really boring card imo

The Boomsday Project Budget Decks for All 9 Classes!

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 08:13 AM PDT

The Boomsday Project Budget Decks

Hello r/hearthstone!

The rising cost of Hearthstone has left many new and budget-minded players frustrated, especially going into ranked play. During an expansion release, players unwilling (or unable) to drop hundreds of dollars on packs feel the sting harder than most.

Fortunately, Commons and Rares make up the foundation of any deck, so it's still possible to grab some wins with the right combination of cards. These Budget Decks may not have some of the exciting Legendaries form the new set, but they are certainly viable for Ranked Play.

With all this in mind, we've put together a list of the best budget decks for each class. These decks are meant to help players (old and new) complete daily quests and climb the Standard Ladder without dropping a big chunk of their paychecks.

All decklists have been thoroughly tested and should be pretty reliable from ranks 25 - 10. Several of them could easily take you to rank 5 and beyond!

Budget Decks in The Boomsday Project

We're into the second expansion of the Year of the Raven, which makes building budget decks a bit easier. The increase in card pool means an increase in quality of common and rare cards.

We now have access to additional powerful Neutral minions like Giggling Inventor, Mecharoo, Wargear, and others that can potentially fit into nearly any deck!

Better still for budget-minded players is the recent rise meteoric of Zoo Warlock. This is always one of the best decks to start out with in learning the game, and it can do great work on the ladder at just about all stages even in its budget form!

The Boomsday Project Budget Decks

Defining a Budget Deck

Our rule for budget decks is to exclude any Epic or Legendary cards. This is meant to mimic the experience of new players or those who play casually and, therefore, have limited in-game resources.

Of the lists provided, Token Druid, Mech Paladin, Combo Dragon Priest, Aggro Mage, and Zoo Warlock performed the best in testing. Zoo Warlock, Aggro Mage, and Token Druid all have very smooth transitions to their meta lists. If you want to get right into the meta, then these are the decks I would start with.

We go into a bit more detail on each deck in the guides, including mulligan strategies and replacements for specific cards as your collection grows!

Individual links to the guides are provided below, but you can also find our landing linked below.

With that, let's get to the decks!

Budget Token Druid

Druid continues to be one of the strongest classes in Hearthstone. It also can put together a strong budget list that relies heavily on tokens. This Budget Token Druid relies heavily on pulling high-value minions with Oaken Summons and buffing them with Savage Roar and Power of the Wild for startling amounts of burst.

Budget Midrange Beast Hunter

Cheap Midrange Hunter decks have been a mainstay of the budget player for a while now. Unfortunately, Midrange Hunter got very little in The Boomsday Project, so there's not much change if you have been playing this previously. However, it's still a very solid and cheap list that can do well on the ladder.

Budget Aggro/Burn Mage

Burn Mage is a solid list if you are looking to play some Mage in The Boomsday Project meta. This deck converts pretty well into the popular Tempo Mage that can be used to Legend.

If you were lucky enough to get Aluneth as your free Legendary weapon for logging in during Kobolds and Catacombs, or even out of a pack, it can slide right into this deck! If you received Stargazer Luna from The Boomsday Project, she fits nicely as well!

Budget Mech Paladin

If you're looking to test out some of the new Mechs from The Boomsday Project, this deck is for you! Paladin got one of the best early game mechs with Glow-Tron, and you can utilize many of the cheap neutral mechs to take advantage of it. This deck also uses the powerful Divine Favor, which will allow you to play your hand out aggressively and refill it if your opponent is holding cards.

Budget Combo Dragon Priest

You can get away with a pretty strong Dragon Priest for a reasonable cost right now. Duskbreaker is an insane card, and with some Dragons from The Witchwood, and the Inner Fire + Divine Spirit combo you've got a pretty formidable deck that's only a couple of epics away from the meta version!

The Boomsday Project brought some interesting new toys, but only Topsy Turvy is a good fit for this list.

Budget Aggro/Tempo Rogue

Tempo Rogue has been one of Rogue's go to deck options for a while now, and can function quite nicely on the early ladder with a tight budget!

The inclusion of some notable 3-drops in The Witchwood really help round out the curve in this deck, making for some powerful early to mid game plays. Eventually, this deck should probably progress towards an Odd build, but it can do some work as is for those without access to a lot of cards.

Budget Token Shaman

Shaman is heading back to its roots with this budget token version. Utilize small minions and Shaman's ability to power them to overtake your opponents!

Several new cards go wide on the board, perfect for this deck's gameplan. Now, with Storm Chaser, you can now tutor for Bloodlust to more consistently leverage your board to score a kill!

Budget Warlock Zoo

Warlock Zoo is a great deck to start with if you are just starting out in Hearthstone. You learn the art of efficient minion trading as well as positioning. Better yet, this low-cost build of the deck is only a few cards off of its meta version.

The Boomsday Project has brought some new additions to the archetype. Soul Infusion which buffs your left-most minion, and in this deck, you will usually have a target. There's also Doubling Imp, which is one of the targets you are hoping to hit with Infusion, and is a great way to develop a strong board.

Budget Aggro Mech Warrior

Warrior was once one of the strongest budget classes because of Fiery War Axe and the Pirate package. Unfortunately, War Axe was nerfed and many of the strong openers that made the Pirate package effective have been relegated to Wild.

The Boomsday Project brings along some Mech synergy, but mostly in a Neutral capacity. While it still isn't enough for us to recommend committing too heavily to the class, this deck can help you complete your Warrior quests and earn some explosive wins. Most of the cards recommended on the Neutral side are used in other decks as well, making them well worth the craft.

Thank you!

[Discussion] Oh how the mighty have fallen! Pirates and Murlocs are now the LEAST played tribes in Hearthstone.

Hey guys, Tiago from HSReplay.net here.

It looks like Blizzard's push for different Tribes in the previous expansions has been working, with Mechs, Elementals and Demons topping the list of most played Tribes in the Standard format.

https://i.redd.it/o55r920sv2g11.jpg

Some additional stats:

  • The number of minions available in the Standard format per tribe are as follow:
    • Mechs = 46
    • Elementals = 55
    • Demons = 25
    • Beasts = 98
    • Dragons = 21
    • Totems = 3
    • Pirates = 9
    • Murlocs = 14
  • Cards that summon tribe minions and tribe minions summoned by other cards were not included (e.g. Giggling Inventor summoning Mechs, Demons summoned by Possessed Lackey etc).
  • The ranks don't change when looking at the data by Included in Deck instead of Played.
  • Minions with tribes constitute only 21.1% of all minions played in Standard.
  • When weighted by the number of minions available per tribe, the most played tribes are:
    • 1. Demons
    • 2. Totems
    • 3. Mechs
    • 4. Elementals
    • 5. Dragons
    • 6. Beasts
    • 7. Pirates
    • 8. Murlocs
  • Nightmare Amalgam was not included due to it having All Tags.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Do you remember when Pirates and Murlocs ran rampant on ladder? Do you think Blizzard will introduce new tribes in the next expansion or "revive" current ones like The Boomsday Project did with Mechs? For more Hearthstone stats like this, make sure to follow HSReplay's Twitter and Facebook pages.

This Android update fiasco was the last straw for me.

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 02:35 AM PDT

Okay I understand this is just a rant and I apologize, but the Android updates have been a complete disaster since they "fixed" the all update "backend."

I am an app developer (unity even) and generally tried to back up the developers when people screamed spaghetti code. Here is how it has been for me since their "new" update style.

  1. Open hearthstone. Be forced to download additional files (5-50mb).

  2. After restarting the app, get stuck in the loading screen.

  3. Restart again and be forced to do a Google play upload.

  4. Download a 5-60mb update).

  5. Open hearthstone and be required to download a 1.3 GB update.

This is the most ridiculous complete mess I have ever seen for any app ever. Ever. I have "worked" with big companies in Japan. I have worked with small companies. I have worked solo. This is the absolute worst update flow ever. Here is something reasonable.

  1. Open hearthstone. A dialogue pops up "a new version of hearthstone is available. Would you like to download it now?" You have x days to update before being forced to update

  2. The whole downloading before forcing a Google play download seems completely and utterly unnecessary. I'm guessing they have some boiler plate code that is updating an incremental patch. Well, if that patch requires a Google play download every single time it is worse than worthless.

  3. The update after a Google play update is fine.

Seriously I don't think anyone should be fired because gamedev is hard but the management really needs to take a step back and think "Hmm, is 3 forced updates actually required for every patch?!"

Please, just give us a notification before an update is required. Let us download it in the next several days when we have wifi. Please don't split it into 3 downloads.

/Rant

Edit: so I re-read my post lol. My last straw was never spending money on this game anymore which will probably lead to me quitting soon enough. I was also and still am extremely angry that they have a forced update that didn't actually do anything but made us redownload everything.

Now that we've seen what Warrior looks like without Fiery War Axe, should the nerf be reversed?

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 08:23 AM PDT

Warrior has not had a top tier deck since Fiery War Axe has been nerfed. With early game minions becoming stronger across the board, Warrior simply has no way of dealing with early game aggression anymore. FWA coming down on Turn 3 has proven to be too slow and I don't see the class ever recovering from this. It's especially depressing for me because Warrior was always my favorite class and now it's become a pathetic shell of it's former self.

Mage got to keep Mana Wyrm, Druid got to keep Wild Growth (and can out armor and out taunt us), Rogues still have Backstab and Prep...can Warrior get back the only card that made them worth playing?
