I love how Master Chief's Spartan II dwarfs all of the other Spartans at the end of Halo 4.

[OC] The Tragedy of Halo 5's Pauldrons - A design element that has bothered me for a while - So I fixed it - This is across the board on most of their armor designs. Has this bothered anyone else or am I alone? I made a Before with the original armor and my Photoshop corrections After.

IMO the best image used for Halo 2 Advertising.

This gives you a perspective of how big Halo 5's M820 Scorpion tank is! The semi trailer is scaled to realistic dimensions using feet (Measurement) in Halo 5 Forge!

Made a sketch of Masterchief, thoughts?

Bungie was on point with their marketing, I still get chills watching ODST's cinematic trailer.

Welp r/Halo, I did it. I posted a while ago saying I miss halo and being an Xbox fan back in the day so I saved £180 and got a preowned Xbox One with MCC and 5.

So uh, found this book that has a tank in the cover that is incredibly similar to the scorpion tank. This book was published in 2006.

The Ambush Scene in Winter Contingency remains one of my favorite scenes in a game.

So I'm just curious, do people like how the Elites look or should they go back to post Reach version?

Posted: 31 Jul 2018 06:38 PM PDT

Personally I'm tired of looking at lizardmen instead of the prideful creatures they once were. I'll literally give them the s u c c if they bring back my old dinosaur homies.

Why are the spawns in Halo CE Evolved so bad?

Posted: 31 Jul 2018 06:00 PM PDT

Legit now. Take Rat Race for example, red team spawns right in front of blue team with their backs facing them.

And holy hell, I cannot spawn in Hang em High without immediately being demolished by someone with a rocket launcher.

It seems that the spawns ignore threats and just pick where to spawn you.

I'm playing Halo 2 for the first time. Here are my thoughts on Levels 1-5.

Previous Entries: Halo: 1-3 - 4-5 - 6-10 - Final Thoughts

Okay, funny story, folks: So I opened the manual to try to learn the new controls and details like a good Spartan, but wow, I expected some improvement, but these graphics looked SO GOOD. Wow, I have no idea how they managed to get this out of the Xbox. Let's check the controls... Wait, this looks like an Xbox 360 controller... Flipping through to the copyrights... oh.

The used copy of Halo 2 I bought contains a Halo Reach manual. Oh well. Let's get started.

1. The Heretic/2. Armory

Electric guitar joins the traditional Halo drums this time on the splash screens. And to my surprise, I can fit "InstantTrain" for my player name this time! Once again, gorgeous and somber menu music. We open on a shot of the destroyed Halo ring, and to my delight, story context! An Elite gives his report of the first game. The Covenant treat Halo as a holy artifact. The Elite mentions the Flood, the Pillar of Autumn, and holy shit these alien designs are GORGEOUS. I love all of this. Apparantly this guy guards Halo. I guess that makes me the Demon, and also something about "The Great Journey."

"The weight of your heresy will stay your feet." (fixed, thank you /u/psychotar) Wow, what writing. All of the storytelling is sooooo much better, there's already more interesting characters and narrative context. I love this so much.

We cut to 2552, Cairo. Wow, look at that new suit! I prefer the look of this one. The Mark 6, as the soldier calls it. Also, we reunite with the Sgt. from the previous game, the one playing rock music from his Pelican. I kinda... I kinda thought he died from the Flood? Or Halo blowing up. Whatever, welcome back, Sgt. Johnson.

Big guns on this station. "No one's getting past this battle cluster in one piece"? Please, Sgt. Don't jinx us. "Folks need heroes, Chief." I love this banter. Everything's written quick and snappy, with a lot of memorable soundbites. Meanwhile, our Elite pal is getting dragged away to a ceremony. "If they came to hear me beg, they will be disappointed." That's definitely Keith David. Sounds just like Dr. Facilier, but in a good way. He gets branded, and I'm just so impressed at the way they've already set the tone for this game.

I laugh at Cortana's "You look nice" joke. So we're part of the United Earth Space Corps. And there's Captain Keyes' daughter. Does she know I ripped her father's face out? No time to think about that, there's signals coming in. "The fleet that destroyed Reach was 50 times this size..." (thank you /u/Vikarr) Interesting. Chief turns to the Sgt. and growls, "I need a weapon", and off we go!

3. Cairo Station

Dual wielding? You spoil me, Bungie. I grab two SMGs and go to town. Feels much lighter than Halo 1's movement, I seem to go a bit faster and jump a bit higher. I like it. The Elites are talking, "Get behind me, brother!" and all that. I guess they learned English. We've got to find a bomb, apparently. We tear through some groups in the main lobby and head outside, where I'm accosted by some mosquito-looking things. There's a wide variety of Covenant weapons, and plenty of good opportunities to melee. Colors look more saturated in this game, too. And hey, the Marines are putting up a pretty good fight! Remember when they lasted, like, 30 seconds on Truth and Reconciliation? We grab Cortana and defuse the bomb. The banter between the Chief and Cortana is already so much stronger here. "Permission to leave the station, to give the Covenant back their bomb." "That's crazy. Fortunately for us, I like crazy." "What if you miss?" "I won't." So much great dialogue. So many great cutscenes. The bomb goes off. I'm hooked.

4. Outskirts

We land in a war-torn city. The vehicles kick up clouds of dust. The sun beats down hard. Sporadic chirps of gunfire can be heard in the distance. Good.

"Hold X to take ally's rifle" Okay, good to know. So this is what actual, human cities look like in the Halo universe. Pretty cool. We make our insertion. Checking doorways, searching alleys, and silently going around, it feels like being, y'know, a bit like conventional military procedure (I specifically avoid "realistic" because that's probably not the case). I notice a turret, right as a gunship screams over my head. We take out some Elites, their blue armor sticking out like a sore thumb in the dusty browns and grays of the city. "Let the Chief show you how it's done!"

I appreciate that they really tried, in small ways, to make the Marines global. I hear Australian, Southern, and Latino accents. The music gets a cool kinda Red Hot Chili Peppers kinda song going, as I try shooting a Beam Rifle for the first time. Very accurate, not much recoil. We fight through the streets, with smoldering craters for buildings, Covenant hiding behind cars, and occasionally strafing by enemy aircraft. The Marine numbers start to dwindle, as we sprint across a clearing to a darkened hotel. The music turns to a techno-choral wail, as the hallways illuminate with bursts of gunfire. More of that gunship, too, but finally, a Warthog!

We rev up the engines, and start jousting with the Ghosts, and by jousting, I mean we charge straight at them and crush them with our front bumper. This sequence was so fun, I forgot to take notes. Sorry. Stuff happens, until we come across the quadrupedal tank that I think we saw in an earlier cinematic. We need to fight it, so we're dropped a Scorpion. (thank you /u/Vegeto30294) I keep laughing at the Sgt.'s colorful personality. "Oh, I know what the ladies like."

5. Metropolis

I hold my breath and squeeze RT. The Scorpion does not disappoint.

We roll over the bridge, turning sedans into sizzling wrecks. Some banshees scream by and I barely notice, sniping all three with the tank's cannon. It feels so good. We drive right over our opposition in glorious catharsis, but sadly, it's all over far too soon.

A Warthog suffices. I floor it, and honk my horn to signal to the Marines to get out of the way. Three of them decide to dive under my tires instead.

...Y'know, maybe we deserve to lose to the Covenant.

We push through some tunnels, the dim lighting and crackly pavement reminding me of my favorite Half-Life 2 level, Highway 17. A few Covenant are scattered about, but I don't pay much mind, popping out near a circular platform. I hop on a Warthog turret with a cannon attachment, trying to keep my aim steady. God, it's hard with all the swerving about! I retroactively withdraw my complaints about my gunners from my Combat Evolved writeups.

At this point, I'm having so much fun that I neglected to stop and take notes for a section or two. I'm sorry, but I just couldn't bring myself to pause. We blow up a Scarab, an explosion takes out the city, we fly through a portal. Meanwhile, our Elite friend is being dragged through some more halls. The Prophets of Truth and Mercy send Tartarus away. We receive some exposition. Apparently the Covenant have a guardian title called Arbiter, and the Arbiters were the ones that fought the battles that created the Covenant itself. The Elite accepts the new mantle, and puts on that very, very cool helmet.

And that's our stopping point for today. I love this. I love the narrative context, the slightly faster gameplay, the new weapon types, the different musical choices, the tremendous voice acting with all its gravitas, the new characters, the expansion of worldbuilding, but most importantly, I LOVE the new details on the Covenant. They went from being an interesting-looking and diverse bunch of shooting targets to an actual alien collective, with history, religious context, internal discourse, interesting caste elements, and fascinating visual designs. I cannot, for the life of me, get enough of those magnificent cutscenes. Everything is fantastic, nothing is terrible. Thank you for reading.

What else can Halo be?

Posted: 31 Jul 2018 10:08 PM PDT

So we know Halo Infinite is going to take the series in directions we didn't expect and it feels like anything can happen right now. We know it's an FPS. This is obvious. We also know it's not a spin off, which means there are certain expectations and criteria that have to be met.

My question is: Besides shooting things and looking at nice scenery, what else are we going to be doing? Interacting with wildlife? Being able to ride larger animals? Are we going to be talking with NPC's? Can we go fishing? Is flying about to become a more regular thing? Can we craft things or upgrade some of our weapons and armor?

I know none of us can truly answer this question. What I'm wondering from you guys is what do you think we are gonna be doing in an FPS Mainline Halo game besides shooting things? What would fit Halo?
