Community Focus - Relikt

How many times have you found yourself in Crucible, saying "They're... over there! On my X! By the Power Ammo! No, not that power ammo, the other one!" It can be difficult to communicate exactly where an opponent is, especially in the heat of battle. Our Community Focus this week, Relikt, knows this all too well, and has been building visual guides to assist players in learning callouts for some time now. Let's dive a bit deeper into the story of this community cartographer.

Eyes up, Guardian. Tell us a bit about yourself.

Relikt: Hi there! My name is Henrik and in my day job, I'm a full-time graphic designer living in Germany and doing mostly stuff with lots of pixels and vectors. In the realm of online gaming, I'm known as Relikt but thanks to the cooperation with my amazing buds over at Crucible Radio most guardians might think of me simply as the official un-official Crucible Cartographer of Destiny 2. And as such, I'm proudly educating my fellow Crucible oriented guardians with callouts and maps since the beginning of the Destiny 2.

What led you to joining up with the Community?

Relikt: I'm one of these rather old Halo veterans with a somewhat competitive background, so naturally I was interested in Bungie's big new project from the get-go. At first, when the game was revealed I wasn't too sure what kind of game Destiny was exactly going to become and whether or not it would be my cup of tea. But boy, I can tell you, the moment I first stepped foot into the Destiny Beta, experiencing that unique, bold new universe, the gorgeous Art and most importantly how outstanding the gunplay felt once again, I fell in Love with the game. But what ultimately made me stay wasn't the rather addicting Crucible, the Trials of Osiris or the brilliant Raid experiences. It was the people I did all that with. I have a wonderful small Clan, the Taken Legends, that we founded back in 2015 and over the years some of those guys and gals in it grew to be good friends of mine. So to me, it really is all about the Friendgame.

Glad to see you're not too silent of a cartographer. What inspired your first callout map?

Relikt: If I'm completely honest, back in the day when I started my first ever callout map, my sole intention was to create a visually stunning map with a unique art style that was pretty to look at. And sure enough, when I originally posted the finished map of Shores of Time in the Crucible Playbook on Reddit, I got a ton of positive and in some cases actually flattering feedback for it.

Image Link

At that point, there already were dozens of excellent callout maps from other invaluable members of the community and I simply didn't have the time and resources to catch up, so I decided to leave it at that for now. After all, for a long long time, Shores of Time remained the only map I ever did. Then when Destiny 2 was eventually announced, I told myself that this time, I was going to seize my chance and become the cartographer who supports the whole community with useful eye candy!

What would you say is your favorite Crucible combat space in Destiny 2?

Relikt: That's a tough one, but I'd say Endless Vale. It was the very first map I created for Destiny 2 and these Beta-Maps traditionally have a soft spot in my heart too. From a pure aesthetical standpoint, I really love how Solitude, Wormhaven, and Meltdown turned out. Oh, and on a little Side Note, I would LOVE to create a callout map for my all time favorite Destiny map ever too: Twilight Gap. So I wouldn't be too mad if you decided to bring that one back too! Wink, wink.

Image Link

Have any advice you'd give to players just getting started?

Relikt: Well, aside from improving the fundamentals like aiming and character movement in general, I feel like map knowledge and beyond that map-awareness are some major skills you need to build over time. A good way to work on that without getting too frustrated is to gather some of your more experienced friends and head into some private matches with them. At first, crucible can be somewhat overwhelming but don't get disheartened when you lose against better players. Every loss can be an opportunity to learn something. If you see someone pulling off a play you're not capable of yet, don't get too frustrated! Instead, let it inspire you to practice - one day someone else will be impressed by something you do too. Good communication and callouts certainly don't hurt either.

Image Link

What loadouts are you thinking of running when Forsaken launches?

Relikt: Oh man, don't even get me started on this! With the new weapon slot system, the possibilities seem endless! Right now, I'm beyond excited to try out these bows you guys keep teasing me with. At first, I was kind of iffy on whether or not they would fit into the "space magic opera" that is Destiny. After seeing a couple of bows in action, I honestly can't wait to get my hands on them. I think combining that exotic Wishender with a nice hand cannon or an SMG and maybe some Rockets sprinkled in could be very fun and equally effective!

Image Link

Last call! Any final words of wisdom or shoutouts?

Relikt: Massive shout out to my Clan and my friends, Bones, Birds and Swainstache from Crucible Radio and the whole community in general for their continuous support. It's my pleasure and I really hope, that the work I'm doing here helps some folks to improve their game and to get a better understanding of these great Crucible Maps and how to play them. On that note, I'm very excited to announce, that I'm going to cover all Gambit Maps (and of course all Crucible maps) too once Forsaken hits. So keep an eye open for that!

Oh and one last thing: "Over there" is NOT a callout! Seriously. It isn't.

Over there, by the things! Many thanks to Relikt for his time. It's always awesome to see a skill evolve over time, and these maps will indeed help players to improve their Crucible play. If you have someone in mind, let us know by suggesting them on our Community forum, using the #CommunityFocus tag.

Cheers,

Dmg04

136 points away from redrix. This has been the most un-fun, grindy, boring experience I’ve had in this game so far.

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 07:58 AM PDT

40+ hours of being teabagged, receiving hatemail, and being laned by graviton lance wormhusk crown using hunters with antiopes. But I'm a collector, so i needed to have the gun.

I cannot wait to say a big and bitter goodbye to the comp playlist once i finally finish today.

Hopefully season 4 competitive is better because right now? Yeah, no.

Edit: some extremely salty, jealous people in this comment section. I'm done replying to anyone.

Escalation Protocol would be one of the MOST fun activities in game, if only it was easier to do them with a fireteam

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 08:36 AM PDT

I'm one of those guys chasing after that shotgun, spent an hour last night with several others in the LFG Discord trying to get into the same instance, but it never happened. I gave up and went to bed.

Really hope this gets addressed in Forsaken, and I ESPECIALLY hope that we don't have to do something similar in the Sleeping City.

EDIT: Wow, first time I've gotten to the front page, thanks guys.

If IB weapons are gonna be randomly rolled in Forsaken, can we please go back to post game drops?

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 07:50 AM PDT

I'm not sure if this has been addressed or talked about. But I really hope we'll be able to get weapon drops at the end of every IB game in Forsaken. Farming tokens for packages when the weapons are randomly rolled just seems impractical.

I don't care if bosses punch us, kick us, smack us with their gun, even clap their ass cheeks together to make a shockwave, just give bosses something other than a stomp mechanic!

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 09:35 PM PDT

Bungie, please put SOME variation in the boss close-range defense other than a stomp that bounces you half-way across the map!

Edit: Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts! Hopefully Bungie will take note of the community's feelings on this subject and in the future we might see bosses that do some of the things suggested here.

If I am ”Invisible” Enemies Should not so Obviously be Tracking me

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 07:40 AM PDT

Title. I have never understood this. If you were going to have enemies consistently and so obviously look at me while I'm "invisible" just go ahead and have them shoot me. I don't understand this logic.

[Morbid Towerthought] The first time we encounter Incinerators is also the first time we see the civilian part of the Tower

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 08:43 AM PDT

In Homecoming, you only encounter Legionaries and Centurions until you go through the doors by the Speaker's area, where you enter what is obviously a market street and fight Incinerators Incendiors for the first time.

Let that implication sink in. We've never seen the Cabal use flamethrowers until they knew they'd be fighting defenseless civilians. That's pretty damn dark.

The ability to add shaders to all pieces of armors at once, like D1 but still maintaining the system of D2.

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 08:50 AM PDT

Just like the title suggests, I would like to be able to go into my inventory, into the shader sections and hold a button to add that specific shader to all pieces of armor rather than doing it individually. But also I wouldn't want to take away the Destiny 2 system of adding them individually.

Can we all agree that The Mindbender is one of the coolest concepts for a villain so far?

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 11:14 AM PDT

In light of The Mindbender's short video in Destiny 2's recent Twitter thread (https://twitter.com/DestinyTheGame/status/1029791781146095616) I really cannot wait to fight this guy. Ever since I first read about him in GameInformer's article I was immediately intrigued. I've always loved the Fallen's bandit theme and design as well as the lore surrounding the Hive, and the concept of a Dreg falling into the Hellmouth and coming out of it with his own god damn throne world is SO cool. Can't wait for September!

The tale of an 81 year old guardian and his first Destiny 2 raid completion

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 10:22 PM PDT

Preface:

Me and a group of trusted friends helped an 81 year old gentleman (FIBBOB) finish his first Destiny 2 raid. I don't ever do sherpa raids in D2, but I just had to for this fellow. It was an absolute delight helping him. We later did Eater of Worlds and helped Fib get his Legend of Acrius as well. We also plan on doing Spire of Stars very soon.

FIBBOB is a retired comedian, writer and poet. He also loves video games, especially Destiny. With his creativity and joyous spirit, FIBBOB felt compelled to write a short story, to commemorate his very first Destiny 2 raid completion.

I've copied and pasted it below, in it's entirety, unedited, in it's original form for your reading pleasure.

Enjoy!

Calus Shrugged

I was at the Tower sitting under the "Tree of Wonders" wondering how my life as a guardian was going. I had done a lot, except I had not done the "Raid" the big one where only the best guardians had a chance at taking down this "Golden Emperor" from hell. Suddenly some spaceships landed and out stepped a crew of elite guardians called, "The G Team" (Guardians Elite), they held this title because they were perfect in battle. They were the best of the elite and had a reputation for "Flawless" I looked at them in awe. The leader, whose tag read, PXG_S3 looked at me sitting under the tree...he motioned his team to join him. They approached me. The leader said, "We lost our wingman on the way in. We are going to the Raid, and we need one more to join us. Are you In? I was flabbergasted! Yea!!! Is all I could say. I noticed one of the "G Team" was a female. Her name tag read, "Angelbabyluv" . I said, for someone so beautiful to be an elite, Wow. She just smiled and said, "When we get there just follow me and do what I say. I said, "I'm there!" Then SuprEvilPoptarts, UNOSEKOJ, and Niguh-soft all grinned at this new guardian who looked like he had seen a lot of years on this embattled earth. "Let's go guardian, we have a fight to fulfill and you are going to see some action like you have never seem before! They all Laughed, we were ready to pile into our spaceships and take off for the Big Fight...Calus would Die tonight!!!...

As we gathered together before boarding our ships, PXG turned to me and said, " Today we lost Caldante, he was test piloting the new ship from the "Moments of Triumph". There were still a few bugs to work out in the new spacecraft and it blew up when he tried to put it to the test. You are taking his place, guardian, be up for the task!" I snapped a hard salute and said, "Yes Sir, I will do my very best to honor this fallen guardian. The rest of the crew gave a "Hooray!!" And we took off to battle.

We landed on Lavithan and all hell broke loose. The team mowed down the cabal soldiers and all the enemies who fiercely attacked us. My Vigilance pulse rifle was on full blast. The beasts of Calus army fell like wheat in a field. My "wing'" was the mower that cut them down. All the others from "G team" were magnificent. I have never seen guardians work so well together. I ran with the ball through the gauntlet of lights and called out the rows...Chalice, second row !...and they would shoot the right opening to keep me running... we had to do this three times with different symbols and then we were through. Now we had to fight the big dogs...never have I seen such vicious alien animals. I tried to offer mine a bone I had found...he just sneered at me before my "perfect paradox" shredded him.

The Gamut began...we ran the pipes, the big pistons that tried to crush us at every turn. Suddenly we were there in the grand ball room. Calus sat on his golden throne. He was drinking from a gigantic cup of wine (wish I knew what it was? It did look tasty) He sneered at us. "You puny little guardians, my army will crush you..and I shall trample upon your ashes"

All the guardians looked at me and said, "Let's go kick his butt" and then the battle began. It was so fierce and wild that I was mesmerized by the amount of foes that charged us. In the heat of battle, PXG whispered to me, " when I give the word I want you to kill yourself. Just aim your rocket launcher at your toes and pull the trigger!" "Whaaaaatttttt????" I said in astonishment. He said, "Trust me, I will revive you..and you will be stronger than before." then he said, "When you revive hop on the platform where all of us will be standing and shoot Calus in the chest!" I said, "Is it ok if I shoot him in the Crouch first, for all he did to us, and a little extra for our pal "Cal"!

PXG just smiled, "Calus doesn't have a crouch...that's why he's so nasty...no family jewels, all he's got down there is some"Semi-Precious Stones" and they are locked up in that treasure chest in the basement. Rights now lets get him"

With that said we opened fire...Calus and his golden throne were wiped off the map. We had won and went to the tunnel for our rewards. It was a big chest full to the top with all sorts of goodies. I got some great stuff. We danced and chanted praise to the tower of light. Selfies, broom sweeping, popcorn eating and then a raised salute to "Caldante" who had given his life so I could be a true guardian of the cause of Victory! "Thank all of you, I said earnestly...you have brought me to the good fight, and we won! Then I remembered what Humphrey Bogart said at the end of the movie the Maltese Falcon, when he held that fabled statue in his hands and said, "This is what dreams are made of"....and that's what it felt like, when the Raid was done!!!!...fBk

Edit 6:

Wow! Over 1000 up votes. Thank you so much. Fib won't believe this.

Edit 4:

Edited the OP so that Fib's story is at the very top. Thanks for the suggestion!

Also, big thanks and shout outs to my friends!

FIBBOB - The man of the hour! When I grow up, I wanna be just like you. It sounds like you have had an incredible life. It has been a privilege to help such a fine and distinguished gentleman.

UNOSEKOJ - You did a better job explaining Pools to Fib than I did. Also, helluva job leading on Pleasure Gardens.

Niguh-soft - Always holding it down and bringing fantastic commentary. Damn good player too.

SuprEvilPoptarts - You're always calm, cool and collected. Thank you for always being so kind.

Angelbabyluv - You're an absolute sweetheart. And yes, you're an amazing player. Never doubt yourself.

caldante - You're always there when I need you. Huge thanks for your support on EOW and coming along to help me with getting Fib his Acrius.

Edit 3:

I want to share Fib's story with as many people as possible. Here's a link to a Twitter post I made:

https://twitter.com/xPXGx/status/1029607051067047936?s=19

Fib is a wonderful and extremely polite individual. Truly young at heart and inspiring. If anything, I want his story to serve as proof that anyone can do a raid. But more importantly, his experience is just one of many examples of just how powerful and evocative our hobby and this medium is.

Edit 2:

Sorry for the poor formatting. Copied and pasted from FB. Plus I'm on my phone.

Edit:

Yes, the language and plot of Fib's story is a bit abstract and eccentric. Keep in mind that there is a lot of artistic liberty here. Just have an open mind and use your imagination :)

To clarify further, in a Destiny Facebook group, he had mentioned he never finished a raid. Being that he was so polite, genuine and sincere in his writing, I decided to reach out to him privately. I got some of my friends together and helped him complete the raid.

Afterwards, he decided to write a "tribute" of sorts to those of us who had helped him. Hope that clears things up.

As for the link not working, it might be a private group. I don't know. I just posted it because that's the original source.

Best Method to Solo the Nightfall Boss this week.

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 04:08 AM PDT

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iqG2oCxZ6o

Ive been soloing the nightfalls just for fun recently. I have no idea if anyones ever posted this before. But if you are someone who tries solo nightfalls and find the mobs to be quick to overrun you this seems to be the easiest way to counter that.

Now again Im just completing this for the rewards so the only modifiers I have on are heavyweight & solar burn. Im not slayerage, So I dont need to go crazy on the difficult. Honestly Im just farming parts and tokens and too lazy to use LFG or bother anyone to join.

Anyways the nightfall isnt hard to solo, and the spot makes the final encounter a breeze.

Cheating is still rampant in Trials and Competitive

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 11:39 AM PDT

My clanmate ran into a team twice in competitive that kicked 3 of them out of the match. After going through their history these guys literally do this every single game including an entire Trials card.

How has this managed to go on for weeks with nothing being done? Their kd's are barely above 1 as well so they aren't good players by any means.

If you run into this please check their recent matches on destinytracker and report them to Bungie.

Strike Masterworks are way too rare for way too little benefit.

Posted: 15 Aug 2018 11:33 AM PDT

So after 60+ Vanguard ranks, I've finally gotten a strike catalyst to drop: Prometheus Lens. It took roughly 200 strikes and 3 months of consistent play. And the reward is... an extremely slight improvement to stability (on what is already a literal laser beam) and a slight boost to handling (for a gun that had no issue with handling).

The other strikes catalysts aren't much better. The Wardcliffe tracking is barely notable, the Coldheart and Merciless catalysts are extremely underwhelming, and the Riskrunner catalyst -- while easily the best of the bunch -- could've been so much more than a tiny range boost.

I have no problem with grinding 200+ strikes to get a catalyst, but the benefit has to be more than just a minuscule stat boost and the ability to generate mini orbs. For Prometheus Lens, for example, what if the catalyst doubled the possible size of the area of effect and doubled its damage? What if it gave targets burning damage? What if it gave it a perk like Rampage or Firefly?

Dreaming City Location

Posted: 14 Aug 2018 10:30 PM PDT

When watching one of the ViDocs (I believe it was "Building the Bow") at one point the player and a fireteam is patrolling a sector of the Dreaming City named Rheasilvia. I did some research, and Rheasilvia is a mountain on Vesta. The Asteroid Vesta is the Reef's capital in Destiny, meaning the Dreaming City is located on the Reef's capital. Thought it was interesting and I thought I would share.
