/r/Civ Weekly Questions Thread - August 20, 2018

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 03:15 AM PDT

Greetings r/Civ.

Welcome to the Weekly Questions thread. Got any questions you've been keeping in your chest? Need some advice from more seasoned players? Conversely, do you have in-game knowledge that might help your peers out? Then come and post in this thread. Don't be afraid to ask. Post it here no matter how silly sounding it gets.

To help avoid confusion, please state for which game you are playing.

In addition to the above, we have a few other ground rules to keep in mind when posting in this thread:

  • Be polite as much as possible. Don't be rude or vulgar to anyone.
  • Keep your questions related to the Civilization series.
  • The thread should not be used to organize multiplayer games or groups.

Finally, if you wish to read the previous Weekly Questions threads, you can now view them here.

You think you might have to ask questions later? Join us at Discord.

Civ VI CPU Performance: More Cores = Higher FPS, and Higher GHz = Faster Turns?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 05:36 PM PDT

I'm in the market for a new CPU this fall and trying to decide on what would be the best for Civ VI FPS and AI turn speed (including considering the upcoming 9900k).

As I understand it, Civ Vi likes more cores for FPS, but faster per core for AI turn speed...

Does that sound about right, and if so, what current or upcoming CPU would be the best pick? Seems like the more cores a CPU has, it has to sacrifice per core speed to some extent.

Thanks Civ VI redditors!

Broken Exploit (DO NOT click unless you want to ruin the game)

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 07:11 PM PDT

This is for the current Civ 6 patch. I only play Deity, so I'm assuming this works in all the other modes. The first turn you get a relic, book, piece of art, etc, trade the item to the enemy. They will say they don't want it when you click "what will you give me for this", however now they will now trade everything they have except for their last copies of bonus/lux items, cities, or war vs friends. You can then buy the items back for cheaper, or you can wait until you have another piece to trade and they will trade it back for free. It's pretty bad how broken it is tbh, you can get so much gold that the game becomes trivial.

Got Civ IV on steam, Rhye's and Fall keeps crashing

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 03:17 PM PDT

This is vanilla Civ IV Beyond The Sword, downloaded from steam. I'm running windows 10(probably irrelevant since I had the same issue running the disc version on windows xp back in the day).

Basically, the game crashes at seemingly random times. For some civs it will keep crashing at the same turn number for a few times, then I will try again later and it runs no problem. It is only Rhye's and Fall that is crashing, the rest of the game runs just fine.

Is there a patch for this, does anybody know?

Does anyone get terrible nausea from playing Civ IV? (not VI)

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 08:34 PM PDT

I was trying to play Civ IV, and I had to stop because I started to feel terrible. I was nauseated and I felt like vomiting and my body felt really weak.

It never happened with Civ V or any other game before, so I wanted to see if this has happened to any of you guys.

Negative culture from trade routes?

How to really get into civ VI?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 08:21 AM PDT

I've always been a fan of 5 and 6 but honestly nowdays I'm so overwhelmed with the game. What leader do I pick? What to research? Produce? What units to build and what victory to go for?

What do I do to deal with all the information and feel like I'm playing strategically instead of just clicking stuff and wishing for the best?

Would you watch me do playthroughs using various mods?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 08:03 PM PDT

Like several dozens at a time, including mod civs, and civs that are changed up a bit. I've seena bunhc of playthroughs and just wanted to mix it up a little bit. The first game I'm going to play will use these mods.

Sukritact's Events and Decisions

Barbarians Evolved

Barbs Unlimited EXP

Iska's Reign of Heritage

Theodora revised

Additional Ancient Ruin Reward

After the Revolution

No Cheating AI

Smart AI

Natural Wonder Maximum spawn

Faster Building: Epic

Ethnic Units

Cultural Capitals

Transposia

And here's the normal stats I'm using.

  • Civ: Theodora

Difficulty: Prince

Pace: epic

Map Size: Huge

Map type: Transposia

Victory Aim: Religious

So, you wanna watch? I'll be recording using FRAPS (EDIT: I'm using OBs because of problems that turned up while testing), and this won't be my first series. And if you are, anybody got any tips? Want me to change anything?

Maximizing Loyalty City Flipping

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 09:15 AM PDT

In my recent Georgia game, I was loyalty flipping cities left and right, probably because of my many Golden Ages. What I'd like to know is how best to maximize this effect in other games, as I usually rarely even flip one city, and would like to make loyalty pressure much more consistent.

What are the chances of new content being announced/shown during Gamescom this week?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 09:05 AM PDT

Most of us are waiting for new content in Civ 6. Sure there are mods and they keep the game fresh but what new features will Firaxis implement to their game and will they be glorious? We can't know it yet because there was a lack of information on Firaxis/2K's side.

Gamescom will take place in Germany this week. It's an optimal possibility to at least announce new content for Civ 6. So as I wrote in the title, what are the chances of new content being announced/shown during Gamescom this week?

Random groups of barbarian tanks spawning in my territory?

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 03:50 PM PDT

I'm in the end game just hitting end turn waiting for the game to end (culture victory) and barbarians keep randomly spawning in my territory. I have a bunch of mods on, AI+ religion expanded, AI AirPower Fix, plus more. Has anyone else had this happen? Is this from a mod or is this somehow a feature?

(Civ5) Streaming unreleased Colonialist Legacies Yolngu mod tonight

Posted: 20 Aug 2018 11:50 AM PDT

Hey everyone, I'll be streaming a late version of the unreleased Colonialist Legacies Yolngu Civ5 mod tonight (Monday, Aug 20) for about 2 hours starting at about 8:00pm MDT.

Be warned that I'm a complete rookie streamer (4th stream woo) and the stream will reflect that. Plus I'm a low skill scrub so the stream will likely reflect that as well. And finally I'm running a number of unfinished Civ 5 mods and the stream will likely reflect that too.

You can find the stream at https://www.twitch.tv/Neiraitheforgiven.

The Yolngu specs are as follows:

The Yolngu under Wonggu: UA: Madayin - Founding cities provides additional borders (Madayin), which radiate from them in the six cardinal directions and expand whenever you adopt a Social Policy. Your Units within Madayin suffer no terrain penalties and gain Culture when healing. UU: Djunggaya - Unlike the Archaeologist, which it replaces, the Djunggaya is unlocked at Theology, does not require a University, and cannot excavate artifacts. Instead, it can be expended to convert Antiquity Sites and Holy Sites to Archaeoastronomy Sites, which provide Culture, Great Artist & Scientist points and serve as a source of Madayin -- replacing the Holy Site still produces Faith. UB: Larrakitj - Replacing the Temple, the Larrakitj contains a Great Work of Art slot which, when filled, provides Culture for each Trade Unit between that city and cities within your Madayin. Additionally, the Great Work slot provides +1 Great Artist Points when empty. Upon researching Astronomy, cities with a Larrakitj may build an Observatory even if they aren't next to a mountain.
