Learn Dota 2 - Get out of the fucking jungle

Get out of the fucking jungle

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 11:01 AM PDT

Helped me so much.

Get out of the "I need farm so I'm gonna jungle" mindset

ALWAYS try to find a wave to push out and then think about jingling

Makes your farm twice as good

Fairly New Dota Player here. Im still confused about the roles in Dota 2.

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 09:34 AM PDT

I just started playing dota 1 month ago and im still confused with what the roles are. In league, for comparison, has only 5 roles: top, mid, adc, jungler, and support. In dota theres more than 5 roles from what i can see and it confuses me. Roaming and jungling is confusing to me since i dont see their difference. There's also offlane and safelane carries. I want to know what each role does and what heroes fall under the category. I also want to know what each main hero attribute (e.g. SF - agility) are good for which roles and lanes since not all intelligence are in mid and not all agility are safe lane.

Why nobody plays oracle?

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 08:37 PM PDT

Im 2k player and 2 mounts ago i was 3 digits support untill i know oracle, i think the most perfect supp hero in 1k-2k,since everyone try to pick a right-click hard carry with low hp like snip PA and drow, think of it, he have dissarm, heals, nuke, 100% magic resist, root, basic and strong dispel, and all with low mana cost and low cd and most important u can bully ur own teammates if they too noob, but yet i never find anyone except me playing this hero

How to draft as a pos 5 support?

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 02:50 PM PDT

Hi all

Could anyone give a support player some advice on drafting? As far as I know, supports general pick first so that their carries can counter. This means as a pos 5, you first pick basically every game.

Does this mean as you first pick you should only ever play one hero? Why would you vary your hero pool if supports first pick every time anyway so you never get to counter anyone?

Is this one best support to first pick that a pos 5 should only ever play?

Thanks for any comments!

Learning Terrorblade

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 10:00 AM PDT

Hey guys, I'm trying to learn Terrorblade right now as a hero to grind mmr with. I'm having a hard time searching for replays to analyze, since I specifically want smurfs/boosters who are successful with the hero in the 2k-3k mmr bracket. I'm studying replays of top 100 players right now, but it seems their games seem to have this flow where the other 4 players work together with Terrorblade's timings and they just win the game? Like...I can't replicate that in a pub game at 2-3k mmr. So if there are any smurfs here, could you share your dotabuff so I could study from your replays?

Enemy last picks PL to counter my Lifestealer, how do I deal with him?

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 06:21 PM PDT

Rushing Radiance after phase boots is an idea, but how do you continue, what is the next item? Are maelstrom and batteflury wrong?

Best way to deal with a splitpushing NP who knows what he's doing?

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 02:26 PM PDT

This is Guardian bracket, so usually when I see NP, I just pick Axe and it's an easy win because they solo push stupidly and stand right in the middle of their Treants, so you just blink in and kill them over and over, and you and your team run over them.

Last time though, I got an opponent who would actually micro the Treants and stand back far enough from them that you could only blink-call the hero itself, which usually didn't generate enough damage for a solo kill.

When solo pushing he'd stop while still too far away to chase; sometimes he'd appear to be solo pushing stupidly, but have three allies hiding in the fog behind him waiting to jump on you (rarely is there ever that kind of coordination in this bracket).

Another hallmark of low-MMR NP players is that when they back off from a push, they just A-click the Treants down the lane and you can spin them to death for a quick 200 or so gold ... this guy was actually microing them to attack towers and force you to use a call, or running them away to avoid feeding you gold. I swear I even saw a Treant deny another Treant.

Anyway, this made me realize that most of what I know about countering ratting enemies only works against bad ratting enemies. Grouping up to try and force a 5v4 fight didn't work so well because our own coordination was ass, plus the NP would just TP in or at least contribute his ulti.

Probably didn't help that we had a shitty 4-core lineup plus Io (yes, Relocate, but no coordination). I guess if we could've dragged the game out long enough it might've worked in our favor, but it was pretty much all defense and a losing battle by 20-25 minutes.

Positive takeaways from getting smurfed?

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 07:46 AM PDT

Most of us in lower tiers will inevitably get smurfed. Us in the lowest tiers more often either for the lulz or for whatever reason smurfs feel the need to remind us in shit tier that we are in fact in shit tier. As infuriating as it is, and believe me, that is one of my biggest pet peeves with this game (2nd only to Techies players), im trying to find positive learning experiences. Most recent was an absurdly good Invoker. His build was flawless (we stunned him twice, only after i got the Venge 25 level talent, he was Linkens + BKB), his net worth was north of 40K (in a 40ish min game), and his spell usage was infuriatingly good.

Im not an Invoker player at all, so outside of things specific to that hero, what sort of things should i look at for these types of situations in terms of learning? Farming patterns are probably one, but i'd wager much of his net worth was just from beating us down. At one point he won a 4v1 and was more or less just toying with our team. And even though i was on the receiving end, i'll admit id like to be that good eventually. What take aways do you guys look for when this happens to either get better or to keep it from happening again?

Picking up dota as a league player.

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 02:18 PM PDT

In league of legends I play ADC and Mid at a diamond level. Coming over to Dota has been a really interesting experience and I'm wondering how to best prepare myself for ranked? With my experience I've had the most fun playing farm heavy carries like Terrorblade, Spectre and Juggernaut. However I've had the most success on mid picks like Zeus and Viper since you get to lane alone and don't have to worry about a support that didn't' want to support. It also helps that they're much stronger much earlier in the game. I've played almost 30 games but I do have some questions.

For the gold relics are these worth fighting over every 5 min? I'm a bit confused as to what they do.

What are the actual go to lane setups now? Is it 2-1-2? Because I did see a few pro games doing 1-1-3 but I'm not sure if that's still the case or not.

How do pro players get such a high GPM? Looking at Dotabuff they hit their power spikes so much faster than me it's kinda crazy. My highest GPM game ever so far was 593 on sniper. If I was actually decent at CS'ing early it might have been closer to 700 but I've seen a few pros get 800+.

What are some popular carries when it comes to lower MMR games? So far Terrorblade has felt the strongest/most consistent in lane. With bloodseeker also feeling decent in lane. I have also been interested in playing Faceless Void and Anti-Mage but my one Anti-Mage game was so bad I've kinda reconsidered him but I do like his design and kit.

I played a game of Anti-Mage that went absolutely terrible and felt useless at all stages of the game. I was really confused on how to effectively use his ultimate. It looked like he had a lot of mana burn in his kit so is it an execute? Or do you wait for an enemy mage to dump all their abilities on someone, blink in and nuke their team since they used up a good chunk of their mana? I just find it difficult to maximize the effectiveness of this ability since you can't see mana bars without clicking on the enemy.

When it comes to playing lane as a carry are there any good learning resources aimed specifically for the role? I've tried watching Day9 with purge and the vods were hard to watch given how little moba experience day9 had.

Sorry for the long post but any feedback or pointers will be greatly appreciated. I'm still undecided if I'll be dropping league or just play bounce between the two but I've had a lot of fun with dota so far.

In-game guides. What happened to them?

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 05:06 PM PDT

Hi everyone. I've been away from Dota 2 for two years and I've recently felt like I want to start to play again, but there are so much that has changed since I played last.

When I stopped playing you could make hero builds on the steamcommunity webpage that you could then access in-game in Dota2. I looked for that possibility but I can't seem to find it. Can you help me?

I've been trying Spirit Vessel on PL

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 04:38 PM PDT

It seems very good for PL, a hero that can fight very often once he gets diffusal, a good alternative to drums as a transition item IN CASE THERE IS NOT NATURAL URN CARRIER IN THE TEAM. SV can keep PL hp high just as Bloodstone charges keep the mana of a snowbally storm/timber up, it makes him tanky and provide a little bit of mana regen

Dagon - Ethereal Mirana

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 03:48 PM PDT

After rewatching all TI7 games, i'm doing the same with TI6. I've seen a few players play Mirana with Agh, Ethereal, Blink and Dagon.

It's been nerfed, but is it still viable ? Because it's much funnier than right click Mirana

(I'm playing in super Low MMR so i guess i can play everything and it will work anyway)

Here we are again...

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 10:46 AM PDT

So I'm going to start playing DotA again(unavoidable break, punctuated with horrible lag DotA and even worse dont-care-i- didn't-play-for-so-long-who-cares-if-i-lose DotA)

Presently I'm playing with BS and storm. I want to add one more hero. I wanted to play dazzle but nobody will agree core dazzle and i know I'm a terrible support(also I get very tilted when I tp grave in and they still di(V)e.)

I don't want to play a farming agi carry like AM/Luna because then I will be forced to do that horrible 900/30 challenge and i kinda feel that's useless, because whatever hero I'm playing I can't last hit through ping spikes (sometimes I feel bad when I miss cs with BS, then I notice 5000 ping...hope that improves)

I want to play a wave clearing core, who has some built in ability to farm jungle creeps and creep waves. I'm fairly confident in my jungling speed especially with storm(50% games are solo offlane jungle storm, most of the others are dual offlane lol. I often out farm and out level the mid).

Problem is these heroes get pick/banned real quick and I need an ace up my sleeve.

Some ideas were puck, QoP,...I can't think of any more. SK? Lesh?

Help me. I am confident I can right now get to 2k easily, every game without bad ping is a roflstomp with 2-3 deaths max(bs but so what. Storm is not a roflstomp since one has to catch-up a bit)

If you queue in a party with a friend

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 01:48 PM PDT

Plzzzzzzzzzzzz 1. make a plan 2. pick a good heroe combo 3. Pick one lane and win it together

Don'ttttttttt 1. Pick different lanes and ruin all of them 2. Pick carry both. Instead pick one carry and one supp so you can try to make sure your team wins at least one lane

This can't be so hard. I lost so many games in the last days cuz of people queing in party and picking totally rdm shit. One picks pos 1, the other picks mid and both lose their lanes instead of trying to play a heroe combo and have the fun you supposed to have together. If you play together it makes sense to choose a heroe combo like carry+supp or tank+supp. For me the real fun about playing together with a friend, was always that you could try smth together and dominate your enemy with a special heroe combo which synergizes good together...

I hope this makes at least some people think about it

Hero's with mainly passive skills?

Posted: 17 Jul 2018 09:49 PM PDT

Hi,

My son and I play Dota2 against bots and we both really enjoy it. He has the powerful rig and plays whatever hero he likes at the time; I unfortunately have a crappy laptop that is a touch on the slow side.

I've had success with hero's like Drow Ranger and Lich as their skills are mainly passive or are self targetting.

What other heros could I look for with mainly passive skills?

Mirana vs Medusa 1v1 Mid

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 09:06 AM PDT

Can someone please detail this matchup mid? I played as Mirana vs Medusa recently and eventually just lost the lane. My analysis is below:

  1. In terms of damage, attack animation, attack range, I consider them to be essentially equal. Reviewing the wikis for both heroes, and the feel of the game I recently played, I would say mirana is slightly favored (slightly faster, more attack range) but it isn't really impactful.

  2. The only way I can see mirana (1v1) winning the lane is by being very aggressive at level one, reaching level 2 quicker and going for/getting a kill, but it seems mirana has to significantly outplay the Medusa to do this.

  3. At level 3 on, it seems Medusa cannot really lose the lane, except with support rotations (mirana and a support have more kill threat then Medusa plus a support). Medusa has spammable wave clear equal to or more than Mirana. It seemed very hard to contest farm with higher levels of mystic snake (either I'm far away from creeps to avoid snake and lose ability to contest) or I take a lot of damage. Again, the only way I see to avoid this is get a kill early on, and be able to zone Medusa, or wait for support rotations.

Any help / analysis would be helpful.

Thanks

Arc Warden itemizing vs Slark tinker

Posted: 18 Jul 2018 08:44 AM PDT

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/4012159491

This game I went Silver Edge, Bloodthorn, Nullifier, hex, mjolnir and was gonna finish an e blade but game ended already.

Any thoughts? tinker had ghost scepter so I needed a follow up after the bloodthorn and hex combo which is a Nullifier. normally I would kill them with just Nullifier, moonshard and bloodthorn with butterfly but I didn't farm moonshard and butterfly in time. I had to rush hex after my mjolnir and shadowblade to delete slark.
