Thanks to Fallout I hear "Take me home, country roads" at work.

I don't know if its coincidence or because of growing popularity of fallout 76 hype but I hear that song on my local radio now.

This pleases me.

Anyone else get mad that when you literally kill every legionary in sight at the camps and you still can’t free the slaves walking around?

They're just breaking their backs with like 500 pounds of stuff and they just keep doing what they're doing even though they could just run

An idea I've had for a while.

Posted: 08 Jul 2018 01:59 PM PDT

Imagine in a future Fallout game, probably not 76, where there are two radio stations playing old timey songs in direct competition with each other. They have different DJs, with different styles, different non-music segments and different music selections.

Then, when you're exploring the wasteland, you find music, on cassette or vinyl discs. You can then hand it in to one of these radio stations for a reward, with the different stations offering different kinds of rewards. Then the music is added to that station's collection, perhaps with a little thank you message the first few times it plays.

If you consistently give music to the same station, it becomes more popular. More people are tuning in across the wasteland because they get new music more often. You're more likely to find it playing when wandering the wasteland. Perhaps they get more businesses buying adverts or report on getting more donations. Eventually, if you keep it up, your chosen station is able to buy out their competitor. Perhaps there is a mission where they ask the player to go as a negotiator or something, and you get a big bonus for finalising the deal. And you're also rewarded with the single station getting the songs of both stations, resulting in the ultimate station.

Or, if you treat the two stations equally, or you're very charismatic, you can convince the two stations to merge rather than have one take over the other. With both DJs acting as co-hosts or work shifts or something.

I think it would be a good way to give depth the radio that's become an iconic part of the series, and interesting way to have a conflict between two parties that you don't resolve via violence.

Thoughts? I know the "find music and hand it in to the radio" thing has been shared before, but I don't think I've seen anyone come up with the idea of using found music as a weapon for competing stations.

That moment when stealth boils down to "Yeah... don't wanna deal with that"

Am I the only one who likes the player dialogue options in FO3 way more than in FNV?

Posted: 08 Jul 2018 08:48 AM PDT

In FONV, your character always seems to react somewhat neutrally to almost everything, which I guess is better for role playing (however that works), but in FO3, the lone wanderer has fuckin ridiculous reactions to everything. For example, when you first walk into Moriarty' saloon and encounter the ghoul bartender Gob, the very first thing you have the option to say to him is "GAH! FUCK! WHAT ARE YOU?", which not only is goddamn hilarious, but is actually a pretty realistic reaction for a kid who just walked outside of a vault after living there his/her whole adolescence. Also once you meet Three Dog you can say "Holy shit! You're that guy from the radio!" Which is a nice touch to adding a bit of life and humor to the world.

This is the one thing I wish FONV had more of: more humorous and over-the-top dialogue all in all. NV seems to take itself far more seriously and never seems to have any kind of humor anywhere in the game, except for Fantastic (who I don't even find that funny at all, mostly cringey). The courier just seems to be pretty much unphased by practically everything.

The new power armor in Fallout 76 looks like it’s based on old fallout 3 concept art.

Posted: 08 Jul 2018 06:34 AM PDT

The other day I was looking for concept art of enclave power armor and stumbled upon some Fallout 3 power armor concept art and noticed it resembled the new power armor in a shot of the Fallout 76 trailer. It's not a perfect comparison but I wanted to see what everyone thinks of it.

Power Armor Comparison

Note it is the yellow power armor I am comparing with the concept art ignore the misleading arrow.

A hypothetical scenario. What if the Sole Survivor's Spouse never died? And Shaun was just taken from Nate/Nora?

Posted: 08 Jul 2018 11:41 AM PDT

Here's the scenario I play in my head. The scene is the same as before, with Kellogg and the scientist opening the pod, Nate/Nora questioning what's going on, and the scientist attempting to take Shaun. When Nate/Nora says "I'm not giving you Shaun!" instead of Kellogg shooting them, he fires the gun into the air as a warning shot, telling them to back off and let go of Shaun. The shot startles Nate/Nora, and they let go of Shaun, and the pod is resealed. The "At least we still have the backup" line is replaced with something along the lines of "Alright....we got the kid....if something goes wrong....we got the parents to fall back on." Then you are refrozen, the pod is opened remotely by Father, and then YOU reopen your spouse's pod, and they both exit the Vault to look for Shaun. How would this play differently?

Small IRL-ish Fallout Moment

Posted: 08 Jul 2018 12:41 PM PDT

Temps in the hundreds where I am the last few days. The electric grid just half a block over went out for two days. People basically just had to leave. To make it even more appropriate, many of the houses in the hood are typical Mid American 50's classics, with white fences and the whole deal. Was out walking the dog on their streets last night at 11pm. 100% pitch dark, no people, no sounds, no barking, nothing. Only thing I heard was my dog breathing as we walked. Nothing but dark empty homes on dark empty streets. Interesting, but wouldn't want to live that way forever.

Not looking to start a conversation, just trying to tell the advertisement algorithm that it can stop marketing it to me.

does anybody else think that if FO3 let you side with the enclave it would be a much better game?

Posted: 08 Jul 2018 02:41 AM PDT

How do you play your characters?

Posted: 08 Jul 2018 11:25 AM PDT

In every Fallout game I seem to always end up playing a character that does the most good in the long run but consistently does terrible things to the betterment and advancement of my character( ie steal, rob, pickpocket, murder, etc.) Pretty much the same in any Elder Scrolls game too hah. Share away. :)

Fallout 4 Voyage Of The USS Constitution Pun

Posted: 07 Jul 2018 04:34 PM PDT

Have you ever noticed that the USS Constitution is on top of a bank, so it actually ran aground onto the "bank." Like a shore bank, and then there's a financial bank. Anybody get it?

Something I could never understand about settlement building

Posted: 08 Jul 2018 07:08 AM PDT

Why we can't build using an eyebot, like Forge mode in the Halo series.

It would be far easier to build higher up, move around the area and it makes sense within the game.

(Fallout 3) Behemoth at Evergreen Mills

Posted: 08 Jul 2018 11:28 AM PDT

I stumbled in what I hope is a bug, and not just lazy programming. After clearing out the interior of the facility, I wasted two stealth boys to find the generator of the electric fence and turn it off. I opened the gates of the Behemoth but not only did it not escape, but it just sat there. So I went in there to aggro him and then ran out. After losing everyone who was shooting at me, the Behemoth just stood there, not even bothering to kill the raiders, while according to the wiki the opposite is supposed to happen.

Question about the Nuka-World and Far Harbor DLC

Posted: 08 Jul 2018 11:09 AM PDT

While I've only gotten past the Gauntlet in Nuka-World and haven't started Far Harbor, something I've been wondering about is if the main quest is completed, does this change any dialogue or interactions in the DLC? I think I heard somewhere that some things are affected in Far Harbor depending on which faction you're aligned with?

I suppose the mini gun, fat man and power fist would too. Just a thought from walking around with beer caps in my pocket today. Is there any canon description as to where all your gear goes?
