Posted: 07 Jul 2018 01:17 PM PDT TL;DR The lack of fast travel on Survival mode makes you take paths you are not used to and find tons of places you wouldn't find elsewise. It's the most amazing aspect of it. This will probably be one of those Survival mode appreciation post, but I have to say this since my mind is blown. I had really thought I'd done pretty much everything in the game by now. Every location explored, powerful characters built, every achievement, legendaries collected, all quests etc. Also discovered a good chunk of unmarked places. What else is there, right? Turns out, a huge lot. Let's forget about all the layers this mode adds to the game. The biggest change for me is definitely the lack of fast travel. It can be tedious and frustrating at times, sure. But at the same time it enriches the game so much, it more than makes up for the frustration. Little things, you know? Lookout posts. Hidden shelters. Roofs with some loot stashed away. Buried chests. Places you wouldn't normally find, but playing on Survival often forces you into alternate paths. The world feels even more immersive and alive than before. Here's a short story: After a few hours of messing around between Sanctuary and Starlight Drive-In, I eventually decided to go to Diamond City. Looking for a different than usual and hopefully safer way, I headed for a place called Walden Pond. I remembered it would be a dried-up pond and a ruined house. A couple of feral dogs and mole rats, definitely easier than packs of ghouls and Jared's gang in Lexington. I entered the ruined house and saw a master-locked door leading inside. I'd seen these on my previous runs, but must have forgotten about them later on. And then I saw a note on the wall next to it. It said there was another way in, through a drainage pipe! What the hell, I said to myself. I'd never seen it before! Quickly enough I found this pipe and went inside. There was a gang of 4 raiders, all of them named. They had some unique dialogue, including a reference to me wiping out Ack-Ack and her raider gang at the Olivia Station earlier on. So I took them out and found some decent scrap and a legendary weapon called Big Jim! It was great. I'm sure I would never have found it if I could fast travel and wouldn't have to worry about losing progress since my last bed save. Survival mode feels like the way the game should be played, at least for me. It is a joy to explore the map despite dangers lurking everywhere. I can only hope we'll get something like this for Fallout 76! [link] [comments] |

All things considered I should probably not be allowed to own a real dog. Posted: 06 Jul 2018 10:30 PM PDT Playing with mods and I discovered the truth. Posted: 06 Jul 2018 06:31 PM PDT I always jump every time i hear something crack while i'm walking around the wasteland. My first hour into the game, I heard a crunching noise behind me. Then I turn around to see three Rad-scorpions behind me and I had to pause the game for around 3 minute before I get back into the game. First time seeing a Nightkin I was in the the Repconn test site on the quest to kill the demons in the basement. When I went down into the basement, I saw the invisible Nightkin turn visible and it hit me so hard I was at three health. I ran out of the basement and then turned around to see the Nightkin chop my head off, which scared me so much I accidentally unplugged my monitor. fallout isn't a horror game but it feels like one. Posted: 07 Jul 2018 11:12 AM PDT Hi. My name is Alex and for my 16th birthday I told my parents, no cake, no party, just West Virginia. I honestly didn't expect them to agree, but they did. So on July 4th at 4 AM we left for West Virginia. After a 5 hour drive, we entered West Virginia. Another hour passed and we came upon Charleston. During the trip I also visited Blackwater Falls, Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, and Cass Scenic Railroad. So, how do I think this will all work in fallout? I think that because the game has a huge focus on the building of player settlements, West Virginia is perfect, there is so much open land that will be available to players. I also hope to see the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in the game as I think this would be an awesome place to explore. One place I did not see is The Greenbrier. But I definitely think that they will do something with the retired government bunker underneath, or maybe even a vault. Another thing I noticed is the poverty. It's sad to see whole towns only made up of falling apart trailers and the only place to work is the local gas station. (And some not even that) Also, a place called Memorial Tunnel, a government training facility made from an old highway tunnel. Another mysterious government place would be Mount Weather. Which we don't know much about. So, conclusion? I am even more excited to play Fallout 76. If anyone is still thinking about where to go to vacation, West Virginia is definitely my recommendation. There is so much beautiful scenery and country history. It will be awesome to see how Bethesda goes about the scenery and landmarks. Feel free to discuss more on this post. [link] [comments] |
I modeled and 3D Printed my favorite Fallout Weapon of all time, the YCS/186. Posted: 07 Jul 2018 09:31 AM PDT Hi everyone! After playing Fallout: New Vegas again, I came across an old favorite: the YCS/186. Its superior damage and stopping power are two of its major draws, and I have always loved popping Deathclaw heads with it. As a high-schooler, I took a CAD class in parametric modeling, and using those skills, I set out to make a 3D printable recreation of my all-time favorite weapon. Using Fusion 360, I was able to build it parametrically, so the curves would be as smooth as possible, and the STL file would be of the highest quality. I cross referenced dimensions from the game, the extracted New Vegas mesh (which is by itself horribly low poly), the texture (where most of the small details lie) the bump maps, and various images I took in game. Therefore, I would say I have made the highest definition model to date. With over 500,000 Triangles when exported, this model isn't lacking any clarity. A labor of love, I spent approximately 20 hours from start to finish designing and crafting this piece. So without further interruption, I present pictures! 3D Printed YCS/186 TL;DR: I love the YCS/186, so I modeled and 3D printed it, in high detail. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jul 2018 05:03 AM PDT I've always heard hardcore/older fans of the series say Fallout 2 is by far the best game, and so naturally I really wanted to try it. I finally got my hands on it yesterday and.. Was honestly a bit disappointed to learn it was at first more of a chore than actually fun to play... It took me literally more than an hour to figure out that during the Tutorial/First "mission", you had to use lockpick on the door that wouldn't open. I didn't even know you could click on your skill tree to "activate" it and use the skill! The game's mechanics were also crazy confusing and frustrating to me, especially because I've never played turn-based, isometric, old-school RPG before. I left the Arroyo Village to go to Klamath for example, and it took me a solid half an hour to figure out how to exit the world map. I had to consult page 61 of the manual before I learned that you had to double-click that little triangle to enter the town. I was pretty much ready to give it up. I thought Morrowind had a steep learning curve, but oh boy, Fallout 2 is a whole different level. BUT after the initial frustrations, I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. I've arrived in Klamath and found a notice board full of little sidejobs to do, I've looted basically every desk in the town, and have talked to a few interesting NPCs. I've got a sharp spear and I'm gonna head out and rescue/find that one Gecko trapper who dun got himself in trouble on the outskirts of town. Wish me luck! [link] [comments] |
FO4: Anyone else ever get tricked by Gunners in Vertibirds? Posted: 07 Jul 2018 03:07 PM PDT I'm walking along with my buddy Paladin Danse, just doing BoS stuff (ie crushing resistance under out power-armored boots!) when I see a Vertibird heading our way. I'm like, "Hell yeah, my Air Assault bros!" when they open fire on us! WTF?! We got us a friendly fire incident here, gang! Then Paladin Danse screams "For the Brotherhood!" and opens up on them, I use VATS and lo and behold it's crewed by Gunners! Thrice cursed Gunners! In all my play-throughs, never have I ever seen Gunners flying a Vertibird. Maybe because I finally toughened up and am playing survival mode? [link] [comments] |

Could the Minutemen become the NCR of the East Coast? Posted: 07 Jul 2018 02:27 AM PDT This thought always intrigued me, because it could actually happen. Throughout the main story of Fallout 4, it seems like the people of the commonwealth support the Minutemen over any other faction. This is important, because if the Minutemen ending is the canon ending, they really have strength in numbers throughout the commonwealth. I feel like a Minutemen vs Brotherhood of steel war could make a pretty interesting story for Fallout 5. Maybe in New York or Philadelphia, as their both pretty close to Boston. Anyways, as long as there isn't Preston marking locations on my map, I'd welcome the Minutemen returning in the future as a much stronger faction. [link] [comments] |
Most unpoularest opinion: Red Eye is better than Three Dog, Travis, and Mr New Vegas combined! Posted: 07 Jul 2018 03:16 PM PDT I seriously wish he had 10x as many stories as he does in the game. I could listen to him for hours. [link] [comments] |
When your real-life Perception Score is a "1" Posted: 07 Jul 2018 11:21 AM PDT I've been playing FO4 since release and just a few days ago I discovered the storm shelter under one of the houses in Sanctuary.
