Games that feel too long and how they ruin the experience

Posted: 22 Jun 2018 01:07 AM PDT

I noticed something today and maybe I'm alone in this experience, but not only do games that overstay their welcome make me not want to continue playing, but they retroactively ruin my memories of my enjoyment in the first place. I've been playing Trails in the Sky FC for around 36 hours and I enjoyed about 30 of them, but then I felt the need to slow things down and play in small chunks of time. It helped for a bit and then I took a break for several days to see if I'd get the itch to play again, but now all I'm left with are feelings of resentment. I had already accepted that I wasn't going to play the sequel, but I'm only a few hours from the end and I don't wanna touch it again. Has anyone else experienced this or something simillar?

Good chair with footrest and (possibly) massage stuff

Posted: 22 Jun 2018 02:53 PM PDT

Hi guys, my first post here. Next month will be my first payday (YAY) and the first thing I would love to buy is a new chair because my actual chair is not really comfortable (classic 10 dollars bad IKEA chair). I stay in front of the computer for 10+ hours (not just for gaming) so I need to buy a new one. I don't care if it's a gaming chair or not, what i'm searching for is a chair with footrest and possibly with some massage functionality (if that is not really an option in combo with footrest, it is not a problem). My budget is nearly 800 dollars so if you have some suggestion with those features, let me know!

Describe to me the ways you get hyped for a game? Do you just immerse yourself? Or is it hype knowing a game could suck? And all varieties of this feeling in between?

Pretty much title. If I need to expand or explain my question please let me know.

Suffice to say, do you just ignore all possible flaws and let yourself have fun with the hype?

Or do you do something where you enjoy the hype despite knowing it could suck?

Or hell. Do you no longer get hyped and just have an interest in certain games?

I will leave my own answer in the comments.

In need of math for experimental MMO group dice roll loot distribution.

Posted: 22 Jun 2018 12:40 AM PDT

If I have a group of 6 players each rolling a dice out of 100 and get this spread; 95, 54, 38, 28, 27, 13. How might i distribute a stack of 50 items to the players so that each gets an amount proportionate to the difference between the rolls? How might i do this for a stack as low as 10 or 5 that seems fair considering how each player rolled instead of just giving the whole stack to the highest roller?

Is the Battle Royale Genre Dying?

Posted: 22 Jun 2018 08:13 AM PDT

I've started this discussion with some of my friends and I'd really like to know what other people think. I've written an article about it if you wanna read more (I'll tl;dr some views below).

Obviously BR is not dead, especially with CoD and BF V coming up with their own BR modes this year. It's been a popular genre for a while (since Arma days) but everything exploded with PUBG and other games soon followed.

At this point, a year or so later, it just feels like any new BR games or modes for established AAA game titles are simply following a fad way too late just to earn more money. Just look at Radical Heights, they stopped the development and said it was "too little, too late".

As I mentioned, it's a current trend, much like zombie games were a few years ago (and didn't those just annoy the hell out of us after a while :) ). I'm wondering if BR is on the decline or do you think that thanks to the AAA games it will get even more popular and stay relevant for a couple of years more?

I have over 400 hours played on PUBG, I was addicted to it. Recently though, I stopped playing the BR mode and only ever launch PUBG if there's a War Mode going on.

If I hadn't seen my friend streaming the original Fortnite game before Fortnite BR, I'd have thought Fortnite is just another BR game. So when people say "I'm gonna go play Fortnite", usually it means Fortnite BR. It's a shame really and while the original is not a game I would play, it looked pretty fun.

What's your view on this topic?
