Pokémon GO - How do you deal with "god" players?

How do you deal with "god" players?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 07:19 AM PDT

A few months ago, I started taking a new walking route after work in an attempt to obtain a few more gold badges and more recently, say the last three weeks, I've noticed I'll lose my gyms in the new area consistently at the same times and when I go back the next day, it will always be the same player. It's become quite apparent to me that this player has at least 4 of his own accounts (two Valor, one Instinct and one Mystic). In addition to this, he also has access to a multitude of other people's accounts across the three teams, some of which I have raided with personally. The gym will always have his accounts in them. If his Valor accounts are in there, I'll not be there despite being there previously.

Today I took over a gym in the area once again and made it Valor. I walked away and minutes later, I see his usual accounts go in one by one. I decide to wait a little longer and of course, my Pokemon's motivation starts going down. He's shaving me out. I decided I wanted to know why he was always doing this so I take up the courage and walk up to his car. Of course, he's the only one in his car and he's tapping away at his three phones. He sees me and tells me to "eff off". I was fairly shocked by this as I've raided with him in the past and he's never been this aggressive towards me. After a few minutes of trying to reason with him, he tells me that about a month ago, I took his only Mystic gym. I have no idea how he expects me to know that. I did explicitly call him out and tell him he was cheating. If he gave me a chance, I would've tried to explain why but he continued telling me that I was crazy and full of crap and whatever other ludicrous statements he could come up with. The words "how am I cheating?" even made it out of his mouth. He finished kicking me out of the gym, swore at me some more and drove away.

Can someone explain to me what you're supposed to do against these kinds of players? These players are obviously going against the whole spirit of the gym system and some of them even seem to think that they are in the right to play the way they do.

EDIT: A few people have commented saying that I was wrong to approach him in the first place. Normally I'd agree with you but this is someone I've raided with several times before. We've even exchanged greetings as we've walked by each other in town before.

Decided to make this after accidentally rolling with the recommended party when attacking a gym today, only to realize the game had assigned me an all-Aggron lineup against a Blissey, Snorlax and Machamp. Aggron was actually one of my favorite tanks from the original games but I never loved him as much as Niantic does.

300 Larvitar badges ready for Community Day!

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 07:36 PM PDT

Here we go again! As usual I made ~300 badges to give out for free in Knoxville,TN. There's also 40 of a shiny Tyranitar so people can get lucky twice on community day. I made about 100 more than usual this month because we keep running out and I had the extra time. If y'all are close to us come visit at West Town Mall for maximum spawns.

I love this game and everything it does for me.

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 12:26 PM PDT

I'm 18 at the moment, just finished my first year at university so as you can imagine since I finished up at university in March I had been pretty much doing nothing - staying up till dawn and sleeping till almost evening, playing games, watching tv and films pretty much all day.

I hadn't really intended on changing my lifestyle up as I was quite content but I got a new phone as a gift and decided to redownload the game (I loved it when the game launched but quickly grew tired due to the problems the game entailed then).

Ever since downloading Pokemon Go again I've been having more fun than ever, I get up early in the morning and head out for a morning walk/run to catch some Pokemon. I'm out seeing my town more than ever due to the fact the game is taking me places I normally wouldn't go to.

I got my girlfriend into the game, which would normally definitely not be her type of thing, and we have found a new lease of life where we both love just going long walks or taking the train into the city and wandering for hours while chatting and catching Pokemon. We enjoy talking about what Pokemon we caught and joking about who the better trainer is.

I go on holiday tomorrow and yes normally I would already be excited to go to another country for 2 weeks, I'm even more excited to see what differences and Pokemon the game will offer while I'm there.

I was a huge Pokemon fan as a kid and I guess I am again now. Here's to Pokemon Go for the foreseeable future!

The idea of being able to see where we are on our daily streaks comes up fairly often, so I whipped up a little sample of what I'd like to see from a way to track daily progress, including pokecoins earned for the last 7 days.

Weird encounter with a fellow player. What is proper gym etiquette?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 07:09 PM PDT

Sorry for this weird rant but I just had a fairly upsetting conversation with a fellow player and I'm still pretty upset about it and would love for some advice from you more experienced players.

I have been playing the game basically since it started but due to having two kids under three and being a full time student, I don't get to spend a lot of time doing raids or battling in gyms, sadly.

Tonight I dropped my two year old off with his grandparents and thought it might be a nice time to stop by the gym at a park near my house and either battle for some research rewards or put in one of mine - depending on who currently was in the gym. When I got there it was mystic so I intended to put in one of my pokemon but when I did, it said there was a battle so I waited and planned to do a quick battle for the reward once they won since my baby was crying in the back anyways.

Okay so then a guy drives up next to me and indicates I should roll down my window. Thinking I was finally going to meet a fellow pogo player in the wild, I was excited to do so and when he asked me my user name I gladly told him thinking we could have a nice conversation. Then he starts asking me why I knocked his pokemon out of the gym (I hadn't even come close nor intended to). I told him it was blue when I got there and he said no it was red and why was I doing this now instead of to the people who had been there for 8 hours before. I told him I had no idea how long anyone was there and was just trying to enjoy the game. He continued to scold me saying his kids couldn't afford to spend money and no one around here kicks someone out of a gym if they've been there less than 8 hours. Despite the fact that my pokemon get kicked out everywhere all the time within minutes if I put them up, I just said I was sorry he was upset and hope he continues to enjoy the game.

Honestly though, it really shook me and kind of made me lose some of the magic the game had before where I thought it was a way for pokemon lovers to share their enjoyment of the game in public.

Should I stop trying to take that gym? Did I do something wrong that I didn't understand? I love the game but I wasn't looking to get into a battle with people who might be my neighbors over it.

Anyone else have nothing to do with pokemon before Go?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 01:07 PM PDT

I didn't even know what pokemon was, for some reason no one was interested in it at my school i never heard it mentioned then of course when I left, i'd missed that window.

I met a guy at college who had the nickname "jigglypuff" and then another at university whose nickname was "squirtle" and seeing the south park chinpokomon episode but that was the absolute extent of my knowledge before pokemon go.

I love pokemon go though, am level 34, completed my gen 1 pokedex and involved in my local community pokemon groups and have really enjoyed learning about it but I've not ventured outside of pokemon go and wonder whether I should? And where would i start! I'm pretty sure i'm going to get the game for the switch when it comes out.

For those who enjoy AR Plus photos

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 08:46 PM PDT

I recently started an Instagram for showcasing AR Plus photos. It's become a bit of a hobby lately and something to help keep the game fresh for me. Plus it's the closest thing to actually having Pokemon in the real world so i'll take it for what it is haha. If you're interested or enjoy the photos I upload definitely follow me, it would mean alot!

Thanks!

The last one is from an actual EX-raid today. Probably more people would be able to leave everything and start chasing Mewtwo, if it didn't mean getting fired from work or drop out.

BEST OBTAINABLE POKÈMON IN THE GAME: For New and Returning Trainers

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 05:36 PM PDT

We all had to start somewhere right? With so many trainers starting out and returning I thought it'd be a good idea for us to have a list of common pokémon that will have some use in raids since the best in the game such as raikou, rayquaza and dragonite just to name a few are either no longer obtainable (for the moment) or just really hard to come by. So here are my top picks depending on where you live. Keep in mind that these choices are not the best but at the least they will allow trainers who don't have the best to be somewhat competitive until better options come into play. Feel free to add what you feel will be beneficial too so that I can adjust this, guys! Remember that they have to be common spawns that aren't tied to biomes.

Teddiursa to ursaring with counter and hyperbeam. Laughable I know but can you name a better pokémon that is a common spawn and hits hard? I'll wait. Anyway, a good 6 of them on your roster will be useful against blissey and raids. They have a high attack and decent stats so farm up those candies and evolve away. If possible, shoot for another 3 or more with counter and close combat. Those moves are more useful for gyms filled with pokémon weak to that moveset.

Eevee. The most useful normal type in the game for anyone. If you have never used the name trick before try it to evolve one of each eeveelution currently in the game. Just rename the eevee that you want to evolve and it's smooth sailing from there. Sparky for jolteon, Rainer for vaporean, Pyro for flareon, Sakura for espeon and Tamao for umbreon. There is also the walk your buddy trick for getting extra espeons and umbreon. Walking for 10km and obtaining 2 candies will grant you an espeon if you evolve it AS YOUR BUDDY during day time in the game. Walking it at night will get you umbreon.

Exeggute to exeggutor. This is a 2 for 1 deal. If you need a good grass or psychic type then these guys will work just fine. They hit hard and have good bulk.

Pidgey is a very, very important pokémon to have on your journey. A lot of us owe a lot to it because it made leveling up possible. When I pretty much had nothing I always had pidgeot. Not even at a CP over 1600 I took down countless CP 2k - 3k snorlax back in the day before we had all of the great stuff that we have now. With that said I'd say they are worth having around. Thank you, u/pharoahsone.

If you are lucky enough to have access to a raid group then I encourage you to go after gengar, machamp and tyranitar raids. Every good trainer needs a few on their roster. Their starters do not spawn in the wild as common as we would like so the next best thing would be raids.

NOTE: Level 30 should be your ultimate goal. Catch these pokémon in the wild, evolve them and make sure they have the right moves against what you face. If the in-game appraisal says the attack is its best feature then it should be utilized while you slowly build your teams. Good defense is also important so remember that as well.

[other] Pokémon Go got me to realize how many Windy Days there actually are in the Warmer Months

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 06:42 PM PDT

My Husband and I went into Kalamazoo today. We spent the Day there playing Pokémon Go. Around 3 P.M.ish I noticed the Game said Windy. It was Deja Vu like the last 2 Times besides Today we went into Kalamazoo. Last week Tuesday, and the previous week Monday. It got 2 be Windy Days all 3 Times.

All three Times, I didn't realize that 'twas Windy until the Game said it was. So I look up and observe and sure enough it's pretty Windy.

It's funny you don't notice the Wind in the Warmer Months like u do in the Spring and Winter. The last 3 Times, I wouldn't of until Pokémon Go said 'twas Windy cause I didn't notice it.

The Game practically needs to tell us that it's Windy 4 us 2 notice it's Windy when it's warm enough that Wind doesn't make you too cold.

To evolve Wailmer, or not to evolve Wailmer?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 01:05 AM PDT

So I'm a casual player, and I live in an area that's not very active.
I've been loving the research because until this was added to the game, I hadn't gotten a legendary yet.
Showed up at over 35 legendary raids when they were all new, and never had enough people show up at one to even finish one.
The Mew quest was super neat, but I got stuck for a while trying to evolve a Gyarados - not much water near me, and Magikarp isn't real common.
Now with this water event, I finally got my 400 candies to evolve a Wailmer.
Super afraid to do it just in case we need to evolve him for another special research quest.
What do you guys think?
I'd imagine we'll be getting a new special research at some point.
Do you think they'll have something like this quest again?

[Idea] EX Ball

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 03:45 AM PDT

https://imgur.com/a/I3kZqFI

Don't get me wrong, the Premier Ball is my all time favorite ball, but it doesn't really fit the color scheme of the EX raid banner that appears after you finish a mewtwo raid. I love the space grey and baby blue combo, so I sampled them and made this (apologize for the dodgy photoshop work. I'm new to this)

I was also thinking that EX could also be short for 'Experience'. A suggestion I saw on this sub awhile ago "raids should give bonus xp for every ball you didn't use". That should really be implemented into the exclusive raid system just to make it a little more worth it

[complaint] EX raid experience

Posted: 12 Jun 2018 11:07 PM PDT

Just need to vent here. Travelled to an EX raid in a pretty isolated location in the middle of a week day so I had no idea if anyone else was even going to be there but it's a Mewtwo and I don't have many so you take a leap of faith, right? I arrive there 10 minutes before it starts and there are 4 other people there, each with several phones.

I'm polite and say hi but all them clearly know each other and are friends so I'm just standing there awkwardly for a few minutes. None of them were rude per se but they made no effort to talk to me, which is fine because I've never seen any of them before either, so I go sit down on the grass nearby and just decide to wait.

Another 2 people arrive over the next few minutes but they clearly don't know the main group so stay in their cars. Then the raid starts but no one jumps in. I'm sitting there in the lobby on my own for a full minute wondering what's happening so I go up to the group of 4 and ask them if they've made a private group. They say they're waiting for a friend. Okay, fine, happens every now and then, no big deal.

10 minutes goes by and this friend still hasn't arrived. The 2 people that came in separately have gotten out of their cars, as they're now wondering what's going on. Same story, we're told the group of 4 is waiting for a friend, but one of the more smug guys says "but you're welcome to get started without us," knowing that it would be incredibly difficult - maybe impossible - to get it done with just 3 people.

One of the guys in the car says he needs to leave soon because he has to get back to work and so suggests splitting up into 2 groups (the 3 of us plus one of the 4 guys that had multiple accounts). This idea was rejected as the group insisted on waiting for their friend.

Another 10 minutes goes by and this friend of theirs STILL hasn't arrived. The guy that needs to get to work asks the group how long away the friend is, and they say "about 5 minutes", which is what they said the last time he asked, which was about 10 minutes. By this point I'm getting pretty annoyed. I don't have to get to work or anything but at that point I've been at this random park for half an hour and nothing's happening.

Fortunately this friend did arrive roughly 5 minutes later (it was 6 but I'm just being petty now) and this jerkoff has four phones with him. Seeing that annoyed me, since the group could have easily split up and let the other guy get to work and still wait for their friend. When he arrived, though, there was no apologies or any hint of a care factor that he's made everyone wait over 25 minutes for him. What really got me though, is he had the audacity to suggest that they do a private group but at least one of the others said to just go public before one of us 3 outsiders did.

We finally jump into the lobby and as soon as the battle starts one of the jerkoff's phones crash so he tells his 4 friends to jump out. They all do and the rest of us are left rolling our eyes. I'm pretty frustrated at this point. Another lobby is made and 20 seconds into that battle another person in the group's phone crash so they want to jump out again. I say to the other 2 outsiders that we might as well stay in because the Mewtwo had about a third if not more of its health already taken out so we should be able to finish it.

The 3 of us stay in and beat it, which was good but by that point I was so annoyed that we couldn't have just done that right from the start and been done with it instead of waiting for this one guy and then jumping out mutiple times. At it's peak there were 18 of us in the lobby, which means taking out the 3 outsiders phones, this group of 5 had 15 phones between them, and so easily could have split up without it affecting them negatively.

As soon as the battle was over I thanked the other 2 people and left without saying a word to the main group. I ended up catching the Mewtwo but that didn't stop me from just feeling really pissed off about the whole situation. All up I took an hour and a half out of my day just to do one raid with a bunch of (mostly) asshats that obviously just drive around together playing all day, every day, and show no respect for anyone else's time.

If I knew it was going to turn out how it did I honestly would have forgone the Mewtwo and just stayed home.

With passes now being sent out for Wednesday players who play Pokemon Go during the weekends should try to aim getting passes during the month of July

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 06:13 AM PDT

I am thinking the way the pattern has been going it was Monday for a few weeks then Tuesday and now it's Wednesday. With the month being half way it looks like July might be a prime time for weekend players to finally start getting invites for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I reckon we will get more Wednesday invites next week and then either the last week of June will be the last week for Wednesday passes or they will just start to send out Friday passes. If Niantic follows this pattern expect weekend passes to be sent out for next month.

Can't log in on data

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 05:37 PM PDT

SOLVED - ISP's fault

I have plenty of data on my plan at decent speeds (4G) as I can download the app, watch YouTube etc.

Works fine on WiFi but as soon as I want to play on data it wont open OR when i'm already logged in it won't let me interact with the environment e.g. no Pokemon spawn, can't go into gyms and the loading wheel is forever spinning.

I've tried:

- uninstalling and reinstalling

- clearing cache and data

- power cycling my phone

- tried logging in with Facebook and Google play

- un-ticking the data restrictions on Pokemon GO, Google Play Store, Google Play Services

- resetting all app preferences

Prior to today it has been working fine and I have made no changes or updates to my phone lately.

My phone is a OnePlus 3T running OxygenOS 5.0.3 on Android 8.0.0 (6GB RAM)

If anyone has solved this before or has any idea what to try next please help

Is it just me or are lures a waste of pokecoins? (Or better yet, are they a waste of real money as well?)

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 04:59 PM PDT

Regular player here. I have an ongoing issue with lures not being as effective as described when used on a pokestop. I have spent money on this game and love to play, but lures seem to be ineffective. I have finally hit my breaking point after using one and standing outside for almost the full duration of the lure, only to catch only 3 Pokémon. I tried disputing the issue with Niantic but there seems to category in the "help center" to report this issue. Any suggestions?

[Question] Issues catching Kyogre at end of raid

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 08:34 PM PDT

The title says it all.

I've taken part in two Kyogre raids and successfully beaten the boss. At the end even though I'm using consistent golden razz berries and waiting until the Kyogre is in the center, the circle is large and I've actually captured it into the ball it's escaping.

Two times I've been left empty handed as it keeps busting out of every ball!

Has anyone had a similar experience?

It happened to me once after a Ho-oh raid but not since then.

Not sure anyone can help with tips or ideas? This may be more of a venting session than anything but it's KILLING ME. I would love to nab one of these things for my deck! Nice IV or shiny status would be a huge bonus.
