How can we get developers to put more effort into subtitles? Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:27 PM PDT I recently picked up Sleeping Dogs for the PS4, and the subtitle font size is eye-strainingly tiny. I have to pull a chair up right in front of my tv to keep from hurting my eyes, which sort of defeats the whole purpose of playing games on console; that is, being able to relax in my favorite chair and play in leisure. But Sleeping Dogs isn't the only game guilty of this, it's is an ongoing issue with video games. Witcher 3, one of the most beloved RPGs in the industry, has atrociously tiny subtitles that are hard to read unless your nose is practically pressed against the screen. The Arkham Batman games waste a ton of screen space every time one of their minuscule and neigh-unreadable tooltips graces the screen. And there are a hell of a lot more games out there that struggle with the same issue. I see posts about subtitle size around here every once in a while, and lots of people seem to commiserate with the issue. But isn't there more we can do than just complain about it on Reddit? Isn't there a way to make the devs and publishers take a closer look at how they create subtitles and enact a more acceptable baseline standard? In my opinion, the end goal would be to making scaling text size a standard option in video games, though just having most subtitles a bit larger than they currently are would go a long way.
