| Please don't show my hero level in the picking phase. Posted: 12 Jun 2018 04:33 AM PDT I've noticed it's detrimental to my game. I have a level 14 Clinkz and a level 15 Luna, and when the enemy sees my level they start picking to specifically shut me down, resulting in worse games and more losses for me. I would like my hero level to only be visible AFTER the picking phase. tl;dr: PAY TO LOSE [link] [comments] |

| Posted: 12 Jun 2018 08:03 AM PDT First off to those who don't believe in it, gaming addiction, especially to competitive, highly replayable games like Dota, is real. In can suck thousands of hours from your life, make you get 'itches' that you need to scratch, and detour your mind from 'real-life' productivity. When I started university, I remember skipping class just to play Dota. I started to fail my classes, was put on academic probation, the whole nine. I didn't have many friends outside, and generally didn't believe my life was that great. So I would soak all my hours into Dota, pretending the world didn't exist. When I first started playing the original Warcraft 3 mod, I played so much that I started sleeping 5 hours during the day, waking up at evening PM hours because I would've been playing until all night until sunrise. I always thought I would go pro, if I could practice more, learn more, and just get a break somewhere. I was toxic, rampant, and a general nuisance to play with. I would blame others on my having been deterred from becoming a pro. Something like believing I couldn't rank up to a level where I would be noticed because I kept getting bad teammates. Every loss became motivation to play 'just one more game'. Every win became a 'winning streak' that I had to keep riding. It was a cycle. Textbook addiction. Where I finally started to get it right was when I met a girlfriend who I began doing outside things with. Some might say I 'got a life'. It would distract me for a bit, but every time I was home by myself again, I would play. But everything really came together for me when I finally realized I was never going pro, I was getting older and I would never match up to the 18 year olds who could outplay me and were only getting better despite me playing much longer than them. They had something for the game that I never did, despite all my tenacity. I was able to quit being toxic because I stopped caring about my rank, MMR, and whether I won or loss. If someone was toxic or threw the game, I would laugh instead of become livid. I understood now that these were kids in the same boat as me, and its sad, but is unfortunately part of the game. And if you rage at every single random person who ruins your game or makes bad plays, you aren't going to have a good time playing. Its an understandable dilemma - almost every kid dreams of being a pro at something: sports, video games, whichever it might be. But unlike physical sports, video games are accessible any time of the day from any place on earth. It's a dream that can easily seem like it can be made reality, playing video games for a living, and its so accessible. But that accessibility also means there are even greater numbers of players, and the odds will still always be against you in tremendous amounts. Acknowledging that allowed me to learn about things in the real world that I would come to love and that I actually could make a career out of! Eventually I discovered science, which became my new passion. I directed all the energy I once had for Dota into learning about science. I started going to a community college where I could get my grades back up, got into a decent undergrad program, and now am a PhD candidate at an Ivy league school. I found purpose to my life outside of the game, and no longer had to use it to pretend the world didn't exist - I finally became part of it, and not just a shadow drifting through it. I still play Dota, but I limit it as much as possible, and only when I have no other work to do. One thing I realized is that while Dota and gaming can definitely be an addiction, it is not one such as drugs where you can permanently damage your health, or like gambling that can put you into debt for the rest of your life. It is something that can be made a hobby instead of an addiction once you find the balance in your life that makes you realize it really is just a game. You're supposed to have fun playing it, not let it consume your life to the point that you're in your twenties, yelling in the mic at 16 year olds because they aren't as good as you. That's when you should know that have an unhealthy relationship with gaming, and should take a step back and see what you can do to make your gaming sessions a healthy, enjoyable part of your balanced life, and not let it become your life. | Posted: 12 Jun 2018 12:21 AM PDT I recently got resigned because I had no time to play Dota. I used to be great at academics but somehow didn't do well in some other interview. When I started thinking over all of this, I realized that I actually didn't prepare well. I didn't work efficiently in office either. I am different, depressed, alone and avoiding people or the world for most of the time. Sometimes when I "quit" or "uninstall dota", I still check Reddit, patches, twitter drama or twitch streams and after a while come back and try out the new jugg build or something. Bulldog sometimes talks really the truth. My life nowadays is pathetic. I am addicted to gaming, enjoy the dopamine I get an escape from reality and issues or things. I could have studied for an exam or prepared well for the interview or had a relationship/friends but instead, I took easier way of not to by playing Dota. I felt that I had passion and talent in dota even though I am 3k. I sometimes wanted to be bulldog but never realized all these are my mind playing tricks on me. I used to be 70kgs but now I am 105 kgs. I can never explain the 7000hrs in dota (other games 2 hours in csgo makes me really think about dota addiction a lot). Today, I decided to never to play this game ever again in life but I dunno how I can quit watching twitch, tournaments or reddit. Guys please have life under control and don't let a game actually control it and seek help if you are depressed like me. Edit : The company I worked for as fullstack dev wanted me to quit as they were paying high and I refused to be a corporate slave working more that 12 hours a day, sometimes even on weekends. I am preparing to take GRE and apply for masters in data science. Wish me luck fam Edit: Thanks for kind words and good advices. I will take help after settling down in a couple of months. Also I may follow dota scene and EG , OG drama and my fav streamer bulldog but mostly not going to play dota ever. This is something that I love about this community, everyone is quite active and erudite. [link] [comments] |

| Phantom Assassin's return as a viable roamer (2B roaming Guide) Posted: 12 Jun 2018 01:24 AM PDT You may or may not know me I am that retarded roaming player most known by roaming with Anti Mage in 6k pub games. Phantom Assassin was once a very strong roamer until the frog nerfed her, since then she slowly got buffed so much that I can see her as a hero strong enough to replace my pos 4 Troll Wardlord. Before telling you the way how I play this hero let me tell her strenghts/weaknesses on the 4 position. ----Strenghts---- - very tanky against physical dmg for a lvl 1 agi hero
------Weaknesses-----
-----When to Pick Pa---- I like to third pick my roamer usally since then I can dominate but since most people know me I instalock in my pub games( drafting arround my roamer in captains mode). Pa is extremly good with fighting offlaners and she us very effective against low stun lineups/ squishy or inmobile heroes. She is a tanky skywrath that scales in physical dmg. Take her only if you have a line up that synergiyses with the addition of Pa's physical dmg burst. ------Starting Build------ You are the offlane aggressor and taking your hp for the enemy carries hp will always be worth, death is acceptable if you used all your mana and cannot contest with your hp/mana pool left. Rathe be full hp mana instead of leeching with low hp. You need - stout - OoV - Tangoes You have enough mana for 10 daggers on lvl 1 which can be used in a minimum time of 1 minute. That is 850 physical dmg with a 1.75 seconds slow togheter with OoV they move with 150 ms at max. Make rotations at lvl 3, lvl 2 dagger and blink strike should lead to secured kills on any lane with massive dmg or anither disable. Make use of Pa's mobility and bring back the roaming Meta. ------Itemisation------ You are the backup carry or you are the survivalist/utility. You can make use of Pa's farming efficency by becoming a core with less gold in mid game if there is enough space to farm. Backup carry build: ( you can always pick up wand if you feel like it) Phase => urn => Vlads/Drums => Shadow Blade/Basher/Maelstorm/Battle Fury ( Basher for fighting, maelstorm for split push/additional dmg) (Battle Fury for the 3x Dagger Talent) => any late game Item you think would fit the best Support Build: ( you can always pick up wand if you feel like it) Phase => urn/medalion => Vlads/Solars => Basher or Pipe/Crimson ( you can get both if you just need to tank up) => Lotus or transition into core. -----Talent Choice----- 10: I always take the Hp, you are squishy without alot of items in midgame and dmg is usally never a problem. 15: I take Armor reduction if we need push, when I know I want to go for the Battle Fury Dagger build then I always take the cleave ,it excelerates Farming makes pushing more effective and synergyses well with the Dagger talent. 20: always the 3x dagger talent it's use with proc items is ridicoulais. 25: usally the effective 33% increase in crit chance(5%) ------Last Words----- Pa is a fun roamer and I intend to spam it from now on. If you want to know sertain roaming techniques or if you want to tell me what I would do in sertain Scenarios just ask me, I'd happly like to awnser any questions regarding roaming (mostly Pa questions though because Pa thread) Eather way I wish you all a nice day and happy roaming! | Has anyone else's match quality dropped drastically since recalibration began? Posted: 11 Jun 2018 10:20 PM PDT Two weeks ago was great, 95% of my matches were fantastic, balanced and fun. 8 games into recalibration now, two have had walk-down-mid feeders, two have had steals-lane-and-picks-tiny/zeus-to-try-to-steal-cs pickers, and the other 4 had a combination of blatantly toxic players in all chat and MMR fluctuations within a few thousand.
