This Week At Bungie 6/28/2018

Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/46981

This week at Bungie, the factions are vying for your pledge.

Dead Orbit took the win by a fair margin for the first Faction Rallies event of Season 3. We've seen a sizable amount of passion for Future War Cult in the last few weeks, and we're eager to see if the community can make Lakshmi-2 proud with the first FWC win of Destiny 2.

Before you ask—direct purchase for Faction Armor was removed with Destiny 2 Update 1.2.1 due to vendor constraints. We're planning to bring this option back for Dead Orbit, New Monarchy, and Future War Cult in Update 1.2.3, prior to the final Faction Rallies event of Season 3. Direct purchase will also be restored for Iron Banner in this update. We're continuing to collect feedback throughout each event, so make sure to sound off in the Feedback forum with your thoughts on Renown, rewards, and anything factions related!

After Expo Report

After months of anticipation behind the scenes, E3 has become a fond memory. Last week, we took some time to let the dust settle and come back to our senses. Looking back on the events of the show, we're sincerely grateful for the warm reception we got in Los Angeles—and not just because of the sunshine. It's always a rush when millions of people find out what we've been working on. It's even better when they get to play for themselves. Here are some thoughts from our Away Team of official spokespersons who were on hand to answer questions on behalf of everyone who is working to bring Forsaken to life.

Matt Tieger, Game Director, High Moon Studios

After so many months of hard work, E3 is a glorious mix of relief and terror. The death of Cayde is a huge moment in the Destiny universe, and revealing that to the world was nerve-racking. I get a sense that the community is incredibly motivated to explore the Tangled Shore and avenge the death of their friend. As a game developer, what more could you ask for?

Steve Cotton, Game Director, Bungie

I think it's fair to say that everyone on the team was both incredibly excited and a little bit anxious to reveal to the world how our Forsaken story begins. So, it was amazing for us to see the response right after. Between the questions of why and how, one thing was clear—there was going to be consequence in this world of immortal heroes, and this was going to sting. To see how quickly Uldren was elevated to every Guardian's most hated enemy and how everyone's plans for revenge solidified almost instantly was inspiring. Some people at the show got to play some of the first mission of the game, and we talked to them after. There were strong feelings while they played, but their plans to exact revenge only got more creative… more personal. In the end, the show was an incredible journey of conflicting emotions and now I am left with an uneasiness every time I visit the tower. Cayde is right there and I just want to warn him.

Scott Taylor, Project Lead, Bungie

It was incredible to share Forsaken with the fans and let them get their hands on Gambit. The teams at Bungie and HMS have been developing Forsaken with the goal of reinforcing the hobby, and the reaction we got at E3 meant so much to all of us. There's a lot more to reveal this summer, including details on Collections, Triumphs, and the major sandbox changes we've got planned. Everyone is working hard to put the finishing touches on the experience. Closing is one of my favorite phases of any project, and it's a blast to see the game grow and evolve every day. We can't wait to play it with all of you.

Lars Bakken, Design Lead, Bungie

So, at E3, we lifted the lid on [REDACTED], finally unveiling Gambit to the world. I cannot express how overwhelmed we were by the positive sentiment around our new activity. Special thanks to all the people who stood in line—you are the true heroes. If you didn't know, GuardianCon is the next stop on the hype train to play Gambit before September. Remember to keep a look out for those invaders!

Lars said it. E3 was only the start of a new conversation about Destiny. Next stop: Tampa, Florida. We're packing our bags for some gator wrestling and more Gambit action. Next week, we'll share the full Away Team active roster along with what we have planned for our time on the GuardianCon mainstage.

Following that, we'll tell you more about the other stops we have planned for this summer…

Marking Your Calendar

If you reside in the northern hemisphere, summer has officially begun. This one in particular is full of seasonal events. We've gotten some feedback from players asking for a bit more of a heads up before things like Faction Rallies or Iron Banner go live. To address this, we've cooked up the following image to set expectations for the next few weeks:

We also have an update for the development roadmap planned for early July. Stay tuned.

An Early Preview…

Image Link

The Crucible team has been hard at work over the last few months, digesting player feedback and tuning the experience. Normally we'd have a Crucible representative jump in to give some commentary on goals, but they're currently all hands on deck working on the future of the Crucible. Here's a quick Patch Notes preview for what you can expect to become available when Update 1.2.3 is released on July 17, 2018:

Crucible Playlist Update

  • Quickplay

    • Increasing player configuration to 6v6 and updating the playlist description
    • Removing Supremacy from the pool of available game modes
    • Control
      • Updating Control win score to 150
      • Control Zones will initially be neutral
    • Clash
      • Updating Clash win score to 100
  • Competitive

    • Bomb Fuse timer in Countdown lowered from 40 seconds to 35 seconds
  • General

    • Rumble will become a full-time playlist
    • Supremacy will be added to the weekly featured playlist, updated to 6v6, and have a win score of 150

Crucible Ranks Update

  • Players will be able to earn Valor rank from additional playlists:

    • Competitive
    • Crucible Labs
    • Iron Banner
    • Trials of The Nine
  • Joining a game in progress will protect your Valor Win Streak for that game

    • If you lose: No penalties incurred to your Valor Win Streak
    • If you win: Valor Win Streak increases
  • Players will be matched using their Glory rank

    • This means your opponents will be of similar rank to you
    • The higher you climb, the tougher the opponent
  • Glory Loss Streaks will be re-tuned to be less punishing over time

    • Consecutive losses will decrease the Rank Points lost instead of increasing
    • Streaks will still cap out at 5
  • All Rank Streaks will no longer reset once they hit their cap

There are many more changes to Destiny 2 coming in July, and we'll be giving a few more Patch Notes previews leading up to release, providing developer insights and commentary when possible.

Prestigious Affairs

Image Link

Crucible isn't the only activity getting some love in Update 1.2.3. The raid team is excited to release Prestige difficulty for both the Eater of Worlds and Spire of Stars raid lairs. Senior Raid Designer Joe Blackburn set some expectations in February, and he's back to flesh out some details on what the experience will be for players taking on the new challenge.

Hey everybody,

In Destiny 2 Update 1.2.3, we will be launching Prestige versions of both Spire of Stars and Eater of Worlds raid lairs. Prestige raid lairs use new activity modifiers and a new system of curated loadouts to challenge you in new and exciting ways each week. I wanted to give a quick rundown of what you can expect to get, what you can expect to do, and answer some questions you might have.

What You Get

We believe players will be chasing after three different pursuits in the summer Prestige raid lairs.

  • 400 Power Weapons: The only way to get 400 Power armor before Forsaken is by participating in the Summer Solstice event, but the only way to get 400 Power weapons before Forsaken is by completing Prestige Spire of Stars and Eater of Worlds. Every time you complete all the encounters in a Prestige raid lair that week, you will be rewarded a 400 Power raid weapon. This can be any raid weapon from Destiny 2, not just the weapons that drop in that raid lair.

  • Raid Armor Ornaments: Each Prestige raid lair has its own set of unique armor ornaments.

  • Exotic Masterwork Catalyst: Both raid lairs have a Masterwork catalyst that can be found only as a rare drop in the activity.

What You Do

Each week, there is a curated weapon suite and a global activity modifier for Spire of Stars and Eater of Worlds. The weapon set and modifier will be the same across both activities.

  • Curated weapon loadouts are based on weapon archetypes. So over the summer, you might see combinations that require you to equip Auto Rifle/Submachine Gun/Sniper Rifle or Scout Rifle/Hand Cannon/Rocket Launchers

    • Loadouts are not locked inside the Prestige raid lair. You can bring tons of different guns into a raid lair and swap between them at will as long as the gun meets the required curation. For example, if you were doing Spire of Stars and the loadout is [Auto Rifle/Submachine Gun/Sniper Rifle], you might want to use Surous Regime for Val Ca'uor Phase 1, but swap to Ghost Primus for Val Ca'uor Phase 2 so you can equip D.A.R.C.I. for boss damage.
  • We are shipping three activity modifiers that the raid lairs rotate between. Two of these modifies are brand new and were built from the ground up by the raid team to work in raids. The third is a fan favorite from Destiny 2: Prism.

  • Each of these modifiers is designed to provide Guardians with advantages over their enemies when they lean into it.

  • The goal of using these modifiers and loadouts is to change the way you engage with Prestige raiding each week. The first week, the modifier and weapon loadout might synergize really well with strategies and armor exotics you've been using for months. Next week, the modifier and weapon loadout might push you to explore the encounter in a different way and use different exotic armors (looking at you Lunafaction).

Questions you might have:

Is anything happening to the Prestige version of the Leviathan raid?

Nope! Prestige Leviathan will stay exactly as is, this weapon curation and modifier will only apply to Eater of Worlds and Spire of Stars—but in 1.2.3, it might be worth going back and playing some more Leviathan Prestige to see if Callus has a new way to enhance one of your favorite exotic Shotguns.

Are Prestige raid lairs getting per-encounter changes?

Nope! When we originally created the raid lairs, we wanted to focus on making the normal modes of encounters the most complete forms of the experience. We believe these modifiers and loadouts will create more variety in your Prestige gameplay than small, per-encounter changes. We also believe that the mechanical complexity in Destiny 2 raid lairs is very high, and we want to lean more into the moment-to-moment sandbox engagement in Prestige.

How many of the Prestige raid activities will be active each week?

All of them! Do you want to play all three prestige raid activities each week on three different classes for maximum Exotic catalyst and 400 Power weapon farming potential? GO FOR IT!

When will the Prestige raid lairs become available?

Current plan is for both Prestige raid lairs to be active with modifiers right when the patch goes live. We feel like this is in line with Prestige being a new way to play each week instead of a one-time event, but we are open to feedback on this.

Costs and Collections

The Destiny 2: Forsaken reveal brought a lot to the table on what's coming in September, but there are many questions surrounding new features that we'll be tackling leading up to launch. This week, we're hitting a few of the most frequently asked questions about the upcoming Collections feature. Investment Designer Matt McConnell is here to bring the knowledge.

What items from Year 1 inventory will Collections track?

Collections include any weapon, armor piece, Ghost, ship, Sparrow, emblem, or shader available in Year 1 of Destiny 2.

Is there anything I can dismantle before Forsaken launches?

If you have an item in your inventory right now, you can safely discard it and retrieve it from Collections in September. This does not include consumables, so hang on to those if they matter to you.

If I dismantled something previously, will it be waiting in my Collections this September?

Your Collection will begin with every piece of gear that you were holding in inventory or within your vault upon the launch of Warmind. If you had dismantled an item prior to May 8, it will not be available within your Collections.

What items from Year 2 can be reacquired from Collections?

With the addition of random perk rolls to items starting in Year 2, we had to make a tough call for Collections. We investigated numerous options for gear with random perks: fixed Collections perks, buyback limits, reroll mechanics, and many others—but each of these came with issues that impacted the Collections experience in a negative manner. Ultimately, we decided to disable purchase of all Year 2 randomly-rolled Legendary weapons and armor.

We don't like keeping some items from experiencing the full Collections treatment, so we're looking at a long-term solve for storing your exact perk rolls in Collections.

How much will it cost to reacquire items out of Collections?

We're currently working on costs for item acquisition and will have more information at a later date.

We have two main goals when deciding on reacquisition costs:

  • Reacquisition isn't a currency sink. We aren't trying to make you spend all of your hard-earned Glimmer. We just want to make sure the items you find out in the world still have value.

  • Players won't have to deal with currency conversions. For example, if a shader dismantles into Glimmer, it costs Glimmer to reacquire. If the shader came from Eververse, it will dismantle into Bright Dust, and therefore costs Bright Dust to reacquire. These same goals are true of all Collection items.

Note: A lot of you have been asking about the cost of shaders. We can say that they will have a cost to reacquire from Collections, but there will no longer be a cost to apply shaders to gear.

Here's a quick example: Let's say you just got that sweet Calus's Treasured shader to drop from the raid. You're able to apply it immediately at no cost. If you want that specific shader on all your armor, weapons, Ghost, ship, and Sparrow, you'll need to pay some Glimmer to reacquire a handful of copies straight out of Collections.

Before we move along—purple and gold looks fantastic on the upcoming Tangled Shore Warlock armor set. You heard it here first.

When reacquiring gear from Collection, what Power level will they be?

Collection items will come out close to your current Power level, but will require infusion to be ready for endgame activities. This is a delicate balance of making sure Collections don't create a leveling exploit, but still providing items that are usable right away in most activities.

If there are things you're eager to know more about, leave a post in the Destiny 2 forum of Bungie.net, or sound off on social media. We'll be watching for trending topics, and working to get you up to speed before Forsaken launches.

Iron Resolve

Image Link

Each day, Destiny Player Support patrols the #Help forum to assist Guardians in need. Whether it be an error code caused by connection issues or an item not appearing properly in game—they're here to lend a helping hand.

This is their report.

Lupus Visage

Last week, we reported an issue where the Lupus Visage ornament for Fighting Lion, featured in the Iron Ornament Bundle, did not properly unlock for some players after it was activated. With this week's deployment of Destiny 2 Hotfix 1.2.1.2, this issue is expected to be resolved for all players.

Players who previously purchased this ornament should now find it when inspecting Fighting Lion. Players who purchase this bundle in the future will find this ornament in their modifications inventory.

Permissions

Over the past several months, we have monitored reports from players in Russia who repeatedly encountered the error "Permissions to access online multiplayer have changed or profile signed in elsewhere." While it's still possible for players to encounter this error through natural causes, we believe the platform issues that caused the elevated number of these errors to be resolved.

For players who see this error in the wild, we suggest that you visit our Help article for troubleshooting information. As always, players who encounter repeated errors codes and do not find resolution by searching help.Bungie.net should report the error to the #Help forums.

Faction Rallies Known Issues

With the launch of this week's Faction Rallies, we have players reporting that they've kept their allegiance from the last Faction Rallies, even after pledging to a different faction for this one.

While Destiny Player Support is currently investigating this issue, any player encountering issues while pledging to factions should submit a report to the #Help forums. If possible, providing captured video footage or imagery of your issue as it is encountered in game will be helpful in our investigation.

Running out of medals isn't a requirement to take the crown in Movie of the Week. In anticipation for Prestige raid lairs, we took some time to find a six-player fireteam that has perfected the art of DPS.

After two weeks out, it's great to be back. Cozmo will be out next week with family, but he's made me promise to uphold his legacy of hiding felines in blog copy. In 14 days, a few of us will be on flights heading toward Tampa to join many of you at GuardianCon. Next week, we'll have the full roster and some details on what we'll be doing at the event. Until then, I'll be spending some time on Titan. Hope to see you out there, even if you've pledged to an opposing faction.

Oh, and before I leave, join me in giving a shout out to the following Fireteams who earned the top three Nightfall scores last week!

Losing Glory points every week for no reason is really demoralizing

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 05:31 AM PDT

Some of you may not know, but currently (at least during the last three weeks when I've been grinding from Mythic to Legend) every Tuesday, at reset, regardless of how many matches in Comp you've played that week, you lose 30 points. (I'm pretty sure it's 30 but I might be wrong, it could be more).

When I tweeted Kevin Yanes about this a few weeks back he let me know that they were aware of the issue, which is great and all, but there's been absolutely no word of a fix since.

If you aren't aware, at Mythic, the win streak goes 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. The loss streak goes 12, 17, 22, 27, 32. So it's super punishing. That's fine. Loss streaks are a different topic altogether, but me and a mate are grinding Comp as a two and it is infuriating to have nearly three matches worth of progress just erased, for no reason, every single reset.

I appreciate this isn't a concern for everyone but thats what makes it even more annoying. Players who are slowly chipping away a little each night are getting punished unfairly. Some nights we might win 2, lose 1, win 3, lose one so effectively all progress we've made is just wiped out by this bug.

Please Bungie, can you look into this more urgently? It's a real kick in the teeth in an already brutal playlist.

In Faction Rally, endgame activities like raids, raid lairs and nightfalls should at least reward enough coins for one package (20+)

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 11:23 AM PDT

I don't understand doing a nightfall and getting 12 or 15 coins. I especially don't understand doing a RAID and getting 16 coins!

With a good team raids take a half hour. But for the average team they take, I don't know, an hour to 90 minutes? I don't understand that investment of time and NOT getting enough faction tokens to even open ONE package?!?

In the time you spend on a raid, you could easily earn 4 times that much by farming PE's and sectors, and if your on the 1 hour to 90 minute raid teams, you could earn 10 times that many tokens.

The effort needs to be matched by the reward.

Something else I'd throw in is these daily Rally challenges that are NOT involving a lost sector, like doing 3 strikes. That is a complete waste of time. It takes 30-45 minutes to run 3 strikes, and you get a reward of about 20 tokens. Again, in that 30-45 minutes, you can easily earn 60+ faction tokens by farming PE's and sectors on either EDZ or Nessus.

They need to match the rate of tokens we would earn from farming. Otherwise it's just a wasted challenge because there is no point in doing it. (Unless you need to do your heroic strike milestone, but 99% of people do that milestone on Tuesday, and that faction challenge is NEVER going to be on Tuesday, so it's a moot point)

In January Bungie said Heavy not dropping from Orange Bars is a Bug. Since then nothing happend

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:51 AM PDT

I am not sure which CM said that orange bar enemies not dropping heavy is indeed a bug but i am reading it again and again from time to time on this forum. And indeed ammo is a problem in pve sometimes. Many times all things drop like it should and you have enough ammo. But those times when you really run out of ammo is really frustrating. While i think just fixing the bug (4head) would be the ideal way to fix this bringing back ammo synths would also do it. We have plenty of glimmer and legendary shards left. Most people really sit on a huge pile of them. So why not just let us buy ammo synths with glimmer and shards.

However i would really like to hear some of the CMs talking about this issue.

Sleeper Nodes checklist live

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 12:18 PM PDT

Heya so I'm a lil web dev junkie and I was about to go to bed when some guys on discord said, "profileProgressions is working now."

5:14am but I couldn't resist...

https://braytech.org/checklists/xbox/justrealmilk/

Adjust your platform and tag to suit - from the bottom of my heart, I am sorry PC players but I haven't been able to make it work for you. The pound symbol fucks with me.

Additionally, this is a non-serious Destiny API playground. Please don't be mad at me. Long-tap/long-press on page for a navigation menu or whatever. Hopefully this checklist will suffice until someone smarter puts something together for next week.

Much love, justrealmilk. FUTURE WAR CULT FOREVER.

Edit: Laying here trying to fall asleep and this pops into my brain. White is complete/collected. Grey is not.

It's just frustrating that you have to switch to glide in order to navigate PVE because the animation prevents grabbing a ledge that is clearly in reach.

That sound felt so good, so satisfying. And we need a sound indication to differentiate kills from assist anyway, right? :)

A list of the cringiest lines in D2 that Bungie should remove. Please.

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 12:03 AM PDT

It's no secret that the current tone of the D2 story is generally disliked. But a lot of these lines take it way too far to the next level, like I'm playing a game rated E10+ with some of these lines.

Basically, I really hope that in September or sometime after, you redo a lot of patrol lines to make them more in line with D1. But for now, at least removing some of these really bad lines would be appreciated.

Here's a list of the worst:

  • "Dear Devrim and Hawthorne, we found your stuff and are now going for pie. Signed, Ghost" - EDZ Patrol

  • "If information is power, then we just got a whole lot more..uh...I can't finish it" - EDZ Patrol

  • "Ghost and Guardian collection agency, here to help. No Fallen too small, no Cabal too big." - EDZ Patrol

  • "Last one. Even Hawthorne will be impressed! High five..oh..right." - EDZ Patrol

  • "According to this translated dialect, these Fallen are saying very rude things about your mother." - EDZ Public Event

  • The cabal lost everything and I MEAN EVERYTHING" - EDZ Public Event

  • Basically everything with the "Operation Babydog" thing. Too many lines to write up. - Lake of Shadows

  • "Rawr I'm a big scary monster - Not when the Ghost and his Guardian are around! - Oh no, you have defeated me" - Titan Patrol

  • "Dear Resistance, we got all your stuff and we're awesome. Signed, Ghost." - Titan Patrol

  • "We make a good team. Oooh we should play some Crucible next. I'm feeling luckyyyy" - Titan Patrol

  • "That thing looked mean. Bet it smelled bad too. It's nice being able to turn your nose off, ya know?" - Titan Patrol

  • "They finished the scan, and Zavala and Sloane gave them medals and..okay moving on," - Titan Patrol

  • "Thanks for calling the Ghost and Guardian collection agency. Your order is now...done." - Titan Patrol

  • "Get back you ugly piece of work!" - Savathun's Song

  • "Dear Cayde and Failsafe, we got your stuff and we're awesome. Signed, Ghost." - Nessus Patrol

  • "Oh Failsafe, Cayde, we cleared out your baddies and we did it with style!" - Nessus Patrol

  • "And that's a good haul. Go us!" - Nessus Patrol

  • "Ghost and Guardian Collection Agency. That's us!" - Nessus Patrol

  • "Dear Cayde and Failsafe, we killed that big guy you asked about, and then did a dance. Love, Ghost." - Nessus Patrol

  • "Closed the page on that guy. Are you hungry? I could eat." - Nessus Patrol

  • "Eat that anyway, inorganic... networked... intelligences." - Nessus Public Event (Exodus Black)

  • When the Ghost "grumbles" by not actually saying any real words. - Nessus Public Event (Exodus Black)

  • "Oh look, a Vex milk waterfall. Can we stop and - awww." - Inverted Spire

  • "We're great at this. Good thing we already have a day job, huh?" - Io Patrol

  • "I like doing scans here. The data's all weird and makes me feel tingly." - Io Patrol

  • "That was a joke, Guardian." - Ikora, Opening CoO Cutscene (that last line just kind of ruins the joke about throwing us off the tower)

  • "We got this" - Ana Bray, Warmind End Cutscene (just ruins the moment of darkness about Rasputin being free)

Io surprisingly had good patrol lines, and even one that made me sort of half-chuckle. But sadly, that's the only patrol zone that actually has tolerable lines.

Let me know if there's any other really terrible lines to include on this list. These are just the worst ones I heard.

Faction Rally is way more of a step in the right direction than people are giving it credit for

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:03 AM PDT

Overall I really like that there is an event that keeps me working towards something all week long. It feels like a better grind towards rewards than iron banner at this point, and while I think that some more effort can be put into increasing or incentivising rewards outside of the public event, patrol, lost sector loop, I overall like the renown system adding any sense of stakes to our patrol areas.

I would like to see faction pledging be a permanent addition to the game, with an different loot pool so we can feel like we are working with our factions at all times, but the core structure of faction rallies with the frenzied rush and everyone's dedication to seeing their faction come out on top is a positive addition to the game.

As a final point I know it's stressfully because Bungies has not confirmed this, they want there to be a drive to go after the rewards after all, but I would be truly surprised if the catalysts are locked to faction rallies in season 3 only. Either they will be continued rewards once our rep resets in season 4, or they will be rotated into the crucible, patrol, strike rewards pool and other catalysts will be pulled as faction rewards so people can work towards achieving them.

TL;DR: Factions Rallies provides a fun grind with an event that makes sense for factions, all the talk and interest over who will win is a fun Mets game itself, and the rewards will almost definitely work out over time.

The grenadier modifier could use a big buff!

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 03:11 AM PDT

I can some sort of understand that bungie doesnt want us to have super low cooldowns for grenades in general because pvp but in strikes you can buff grenade cooldowns a lot. They dont hurt anyone. Low cooldowns wont trivialize the strikes because they dont one shot bosses and such. Just let us throw a lot of grenades. Right now the modifier grenadier is actually useless. You could have no modifier in place and you would notice a difference. Straight up buff it. Theres no reason not to buff it. It doesnt break the balance of the game since its PVE

Could Rocket Launchers hold more than one shot before reloading again please?

Posted: 27 Jun 2018 07:18 PM PDT

Just something I would really like the return of.

Rocket Launchers rolling with tri-pod we're pretty cool. Having 2 shots before needing to reload was pretty cool.

The '"SOUND AND FURY~" rocket launcher normally had a magazine of 2, but if you reload it while it was empty, it had 4.

Always having just one rocket and needed to reload immediately really brings down my excitement when it comes to rocket launchers and I don't like them as much as I did in Destiny 1.

As for PvP

Continuing to grant only one rocket would be fine with me I guess. I just wish heavy ammo for Trials would return to how it was before where only one round had heavy.

For REALLY quick super kills - find a PE 4 minutes out - fast travel to it, rally the flag get instant super and melt adds with it. Fast travel back and rally again - rinse and repeat

Customizable emote wheel and we don't have a rock, a paper, or a scissor.

Haven't seen this suggestion. Really, Bungie, how is this not a thing?

Almost a Year Later, and I Still Prefer Reputation over Tokens.

Posted: 27 Jun 2018 02:59 PM PDT

We've had a lot of time to mull over how we feel about tokens. My opinion? I feel like its just another wall between me and gameplay.

When Destiny 2 launched we were introduced to the Token system which honestly feels like an Artificial Increase to the Destiny grind and make it feel like we are getting more than we actually are. The Entirety of the token system feels like Bungie just removed reputation gains as intrinsic and passively earned experience, and converted it to Tokens. Which I NOW have to physically turn in. Click, after click, after click. It feels like a chore. And no: Just allowing me to cash in all my tokens at one time will not fix this issue. I feel like tokens just need to go. Bring back the reputation bars as a passively earned grind.

For those who are concerned about the issue of "Storing up multiple packages worth of tokens for redemption all at once." With the return of Reputation, Bungie should also use a few of of their very Capable employees to develop a way for multiple packages to be claimed in one visit. I really do feel like tokens are making the Destiny 2 loot system feel EXTREMELY casual and mundane. Casual isn't necessarily a bad thing.. But in a game that has already lost so much depth, we don't need artificial increases to the grinds we already had.

What are all of your guys' thoughts? I'm really hoping Bungie gets to at least see this post, or what would blow me away is a response.

In D1 there was almost no armor set I didn't like, in D2 there is almost none that I do like.

Just wanted to share my good raiding experience yesterday

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 07:28 AM PDT

So I've been telling one of my friends for a while now that I'm gonna take him through the raid. He's a day 1 d2 player, but after a disastrous raid attempt last fall, he was turned off from Destiny raids. Yesterday we gave it another go, and due to scheduling issues, it was us two, another friend, and three randos. After a few runs getting organized, we made it through gauntlet, a few more wipes we beat the dogs, somehow beat the baths on our first try, and then we approached calus. It probably took us 15 runs just to get to the damage phase, but all three randos stayed with it till the end. So thanks to everyone involved, I'm glad my buddy finally beat him.

Bungie, you made a big improvement to clans in D2, but we need more in Forsaken

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 07:55 AM PDT

Don't get me wrong. I am not complaining that the clan system is bad. I think it's great for people to queue up with clan mates and receive benefits by leveling up your clan....but...

I think we can use some upgrades in Forsaken or in Y2.

It is extremely rare to see someone who is not in a clan in D2. Which means that the majority of the population of players are in a clan. Which would mean we could easily have a seasonal event or just a feature for clans. Perhaps clan games? Like maybe a clan vs clan system in modes like Gambit? And the rewards can be exclusive to this event?

I feel like we just need something to make clans more useful or more competitive with one another somewhere down the road. Thoughts?

Just sitting idle in the tower when I hear a female NPC say "Control, the jumper was a Guardian. Already rez'd and on his way."

It's the little things that make me chuckle. Thanks Bungie, keep em coming.

A Look-Back at the Arms and Armament Book.

Posted: 28 Jun 2018 09:13 AM PDT

A few hours ago, myself and a friend went through the Arms and Armament book that came with the original Destiny 1 Limited Edition. With the almost four years of knowledge, we came back hoping to find cool seeds of lore that had been planted for us to find.

After reading through the book, we went online to look for information about the book, only to find there wasn't as much finality as we had hoped. So I decided to maybe spark some discussion on the book. I was unable to find a digital version of the book, so I apologise if you don't have access to it. I've tried to be as descriptive as possible.

The cover of the book starts with the Latin phrase, "Per Audacia Ad Astra." A quick Google translation turned that into, "By daring to the stars." I think this is just a standard Destiny quote, since I'm pretty sure I've seen it elsewhere.

The first page after opening the book lists the title of the book once more and underneath is written, "Post Proelia Praemia." Another quick Google translation turned that into, "After battles, rewards." What's interesting is that directly beneath this, "THERE IS NO AFTER," is written. My friend and myself came to the conclusion that this person is a Titan, but I will refer to them as Pen (Since their writing kinda looks like it was done in pen to me, but I saw someone else say it's charcoal so I don't know) to distinguish them from the other writers. I'll explain how we came to that conclusion when the evidence arrives. "THERE IS NO AFTER." I believe is referring to the idea that from Pen's point of view, there is no 'after' battle. Seeing as I believe they're a Titan, this makes sense.

The next page, the Table of Contents, helps prove this. There are many things listed here. In order, we have:

Introduction

Hand Cannon

Fusion Rifle

Assault Rifle

Shotgun

Machine Gun

Rocket Launcher

Sniper Rifle

Hunter Armaments

Titan Armaments

Warlock Armaments

Phaeton Class Ship

Kestrel Class Ship

Regulus Class Ship

Arcadia Class Ship

Sparrow

This is interesting to me, as under Assault Rifle, Pen has written "-AUTO, PULSE, SCOUT." However, more importantly, Shotgun, Machine Gun, and Rocket Launcher are the only underlined weapons. The word Titan in Titan Armaments is also underlined. This helps me believe Pen is a Titan. Phaeton Class Jumpship is also underlined. That gets a bit more important later on, but I'm not sure how important. On the same page, sort of near Sparrow, Pen has written, "-OLD STATION. DOWN LINE FROM DRIVER."

The next page is where Pencil is introduced. I believe that Pencil is a Hunter, as shown later. There is a standard introduction to the book given by the True Author. It says Be Brave at the end, which to me, it looks like Pen has underlined. Before that, Pencil has written, "The sands spoke, but still no closer. The voice is familiar now, but no path forward is clear. Is this the edge talking, or another calling? So many voices in the darkness. Hard to see the way. My Light guides me." The word 'another' is underlined. There is also a pencil drawing of the Traveler at the bottom.

I don't know if I'm crazy here, but the middle of the pages here, where the spine is, looks different from the rest of the book. It's like a page has been ripped out or these pages have been stitched back in. The pages after this are more white in colour than the previous pages, which are aged and slightly yellow. Don't know if these means anything, but I don't want a repeat of Halsey's Journal and have these pages be intact in a select few books.

I'm not 100% sure here, but I believe the book order went True Author, Pen, Pencil. There is a Cursive that shows up, but only at the very end, and Pen may be commenting on their work, as Pencil comments on Pen. Cursive may either be the True Author or be before Pen.

The next page is about Hand Cannons. Pen has underlined the title, 'Hand Cannon,' and the words, 'stopping power,' in the description , "Their low rate of fire and modest accuracy is more than made up for by their ease of handling and superior stopping power."

Underneath that is a pen drawing of a bird's eye view of what looks like the Hellmouth. Pen has written, "RITUALS?" and Pencil has crossed it out and written, "Sacrifice." Nothing else notable here except next to an image of a Hand Cannon, Pen has written, "POST SIGHT OUTDATED. -NEW CROP USES HOLO." My favourite part is that pointing to the grip of the gun is the word, "BLUDGEON." If this doesn't scream Titan, what does?

The next page has a few other Hand Cannon designs, the only notable thing being that Pencil has written, "Crack beyond the (dawn?)" I'm not 100% on whether it says dawn, but it looks like it. Maybe door?

The next page is where it becomes interesting. The Last Word is on the left page and the Thorn is on the right page. The only thing written on the Last Word is branching off of the title and Pen has written, "YOURS, NOT MINE." Seeing as that is the flavour text of the weapon, this could be interesting.

The Thorn is the incredibly intriguing part. Only Pencil has written here. Starting with the book's description of the Thorn, it says, "Thought to be one of the infamous 'weapons of sorrow,' Thorn is known only through hearsay and folklore, though a repeated theme appears amongst all of the rumours--its power is to be feared. This image is drawn from the memory of one of the few Awoken who claim to have held it." The image included is essentially an exact replication of the Thorn, so this Awoken who claims to have held it may be worth looking into. When it says, "its power is to be feared," Pencil has replaced it so it now reads, "its power is a Curse."

Above the description, Pencil has written," No ref before Palamon. No backtrack -ONLY forward. Trail cold at (Durga?). Dead? Where is Thorn?" 'Where' is capitalised. It seems to me that Pencil was looking for Thorn.

Beneath the description is what looks like a list of places Pencil went.

Palamon

N. (Char?) (Chan?)

Velon

Breaklands

(Durga?)

Behind the Thorn, Pencil has written a planet list; "Earth-Mercury-Venus-Mars."

The next few pages don't seem important to me, other than it begins a trend where Pen seems to have tally marks next to certain weapons, presumably for kills. The last sentence of the Plan C description is also interesting. "This sustained spark allows the weapon to be fired quickly once drawn, making Plan C a perfect counter to sudden danger." 'Sudden danger' is underlined and underneath that, Pen has written, "GOOD IN A TIGHT SPOT." Maybe this means Pen used Plan C at some point.

The next interesting thing is a dagger with electric sparks around thd blade. It seems as though Pen drew it, so it's either a Fallen design they're drawing or it's a Bladedancer thing. I'm not sure.

The next page becomes very interesting for Pen. It seems as though Pen has an interest in the Hive. They've drawn the head of a Thrall and written some details on the design of the creature. This seems odd, since this is on the page for Pulse Rifles. Seeing as Pen drew the Hellmouth earlier, this means that Pen may definitely be focused on the Hive. Pencil has made a few comments on the Thrall, writing, "Lowest. Unworthy." On the next page, Pencil has written, "The Light burns brighter in the darkest shadow."

There's nothing incredibly interesting until we get to the Machine Gun page. It's here where we see Pencil truly deface Pen's existing writing. Pencil has written, "Cabal survey found something beneath Freehold -at war with Vex since." I'm not sure if other lore or Grimoire ended up uncovering what exactly the Cabal found, but maybe it's something to do with the OXA Machine since the Vex are involved. The next page over, Pen has written, "A GUARDIAN'S BEST FRIENDS," next to a circled image of an ammo belt in a Machine Gun. Pencil has added to it so it now reads, "A GUARDIAN'S BEST FRIEND Is the Light." This further backs up to me that Pencil is incredibly devout to the Light. They always mention it.

A few pages over we get the most interesting piece of information for Pen. The Thunderlord has a full two page spread in this book. Sparks have been drawn in by Pen along the barrel and on the bottom right of the second page, Pen has written, "POP THE TOP TO HEAR THE HISS -SOUL OR GAS?" A few symbols that look Hive in nature have been drawn in by Pencil at the top left of the second page. The book's description of Thunderlord ends with, "Legendary for its power, the Thunderlord is a rare and coveted weapon, sought by many, held by few." Pen has changed this so it reads, "Sought by many, held by ME." This makes me think that Pen is a Titan who is the possibly original owner, or at least the owner before us, of Thunderlord.

Nothing interesting after that except that Pen has written, "IN CRUX WE TRUST," next to images of a few Rocket Launchers. Crux meaning Feizel Crux, crafter of the Gjallarhorn. Interestingly, Pen has written, "ART AS WEAPON. A TRIBUTE TO THOSE WHO FELL." This suggests to me that perhaps Pen fought in the Battle of Twilight Gap.

The next page starts the Sniper Rifle section. Pen has written, "SAFETY'S OVERRATED. PREFER TO SEE THEIR EYES." Seeing as Pen likes close range, underlined Shotguns in the Contents, and has the highest tally marks next to a Shotgun, I think it's safe to say their loadout consisted of a Shotgun, Thunderlord, and maybe a Rocket Launcher, as that was also underlined. But there were tally marks next to a Fusion Rifle and a few of Pen's comments made it seem like they were experienced with Fusion Rifles.

Pencil has commented on Pen's quote by adding, "More to might than blind bravery." Since Pencil is always commenting on Pen and not the other way around, I believe it makes sense that Pencil got a hold of this book after Pen. The next page as a few Pencil quotes. I'm not sure what to make of them. "Can't track the anomaly. Its energies don't map to known Light patterns. New forces? Something else? No reliable reports - conjecture and cold clues - but there is something to it. Remain vigilant. The Light will guide me." 'Vigilant' is underlined.

The Patience and Time pages are also interesting. Pen has just written, "REAL DEAL." Pencil has written next to the title, so it reads, "Patience and Time Are weapons of their own. Master either and you have an advantage. Master both and"

The quote ends there. The book description ends with, "While no first-person accounts of its use have ever been recorded, there have been enough whispers to warrant its inclusion in these pages." Perhaps Pencil is one of the few people to have used the weapon.

Now we reach the Armament section. It starts off with a book description that reads, "To survive beyond the City's walls, one must understand the breadth of armor and varied support gear available." Pen has crossed this out and it now reads, "To survive beyond the City's walls, one must understand FEAR, STRENGTH."

Next to a pencil drawing of what looks like the Knucklehead Radar or whatever it is, Pencil has written, "Bend the (wires?) to your needs. So many ways, but takes patience to master.

The next page has a picture of Andal Brask, Cayde's predecessor as Hunter Vanguard. Pen has written, "RTL. CAYDE GOT SHORT STICK. STUCK IN-WALL. HUNTERS HUNT." I believe RTL may be the Guardian version of RIP, "Return To Light" or something like that. Pencil has written, "Before his time. A great loss. But Cayde will carry the torch." This shows me that both Pen and Pencil respect Andal and Cayde.

The next pages have Hunter concept art and Pencil has written, "Blazing trail, long before City, long after what comes next. Without Pathfinders we have no future. A stagnant life is no life. Seek, defend so others can find their courage. Kill fear with truth and Light. Darkness can never defeat a curious heart." That last sentence is underlined. The next page has more. "To walk the wastes is to see beauty in all its forms - Life will always find way - as long as the Light remains. The next page starts the Titan section. The House of Winter symbol has been drawn, along with an image I don't recognise. It's on Page 58 if you're curious. The next page has an image of Zavala with hair. It's...unsettling. Pen has listed battles or battle locations.

EFZ

THE GAP

MAAT MONS

MARE IMBRIUM

THARSIS

Pencil has described Zavala in bullet points.

-Survivor

-The rock The City needs

-Keen mind

-His brutality is beautiful

-Makes war, but not driven by it

-Noble.

The next few pages have Titan concept art with a few quotes from Pen. "NOT ONLY TO FIGHT BUT TO STRIVE. FOR HONOR. FOR HOPE. WE BLEED. WE DID. WE DEFEND."

The next page starts the Warlock section Pencil has a few words for us."Their thinking is fluid - minds malleable to see a deeper structure. We see the world, Titans see the pieces. Warlock see it all. No avenue is closed to them. But do they know the risks? How far can one bend the Light before it breaks?" That 'We see the world,' confirms to me that Pencil is a Hunter. No doubt. Pen has written a few words next to concept art of Ikora. "CAN'T WIN THIS FIGHT WITHOUT 'EM. SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY. OPEN NEW CHANNELS. KNOWLEDGE AS POWER."

On the concept art for Warlock, Pencil has written a single sentence. "Grace has its own power."

Now we come to the last thing in the content page that Pen has underlined. The Phaeton Class Ship. Pen has written, "ONLY WAY OFF WORLD, BUT OFF WORLD'S Not So PRETTY." This is right next to the book's description and, as far as I can tell, the only time Pen doesn't use only capitals. Pencil has circled 'Not So PRETTY' and has written, "Eye of the beholder," which I take to mean that Pencil doesn't agree with Pen's sentiment.

The other interesting thing is below this. Pen has written, "HolliDAY'S GOT THE GOODS. DAUGHTER KNOWS MORE THAN HE DOES." Pen has circled Holliday's name and put RTL next to it, which is what sparked me to think that it is the equivalent of Rest In Piece. Amanda Holliday is the daughter mentioned, which means the he would be Amanda's dad. My friend told me that Amanda's family were killed, explaining the RTL.

There is nothing worth mentioning until the last four pages. The following pages all are written in the Notes section, after the main book has concluded. Pencil doesn't comment on the next two pages. Instead, there is a new handwriting using pencil. I will call them Cursive for future reference. Cursive has drawn a few geometric symbols that I don't recognise. There are sets of diamonds with words next to them that I can't make out. I'm not too good with reading cursive I'm afraid. Cursive has written, "The source of the Light is believed to originate from the Traveler directly, as through the Traveler as a conduit (such distinction at as yet undetermined though theories supporting each have long been argued)" The next page has a pencil drawing of a Vex Goblin. Pen comments on it, writing, "BREAK JUICE BOX. RADIAL FIN? FOR COMMS? LENS. WHAT SPECTRUM? VARIABLE?" This is the last we hear from Pen. Cursive has written, " Biological mechanics. Sentience within the circuitry. Individuality? Bio in fluids. Evolved? Constructed? Manufactured reproduction. Driving force. Mechanics of bio?"

Further down the page we have a drawing of two hands. One has a infinite loop swirling around it. Cursive has written, "A balance is required. Sustain neutral. Gather focus in charged hand. Balance pattern. Find rhythm. Once mastered, little movement required. Force needed to release, motion utilised to direct." I think this might be talking about Nova Bomb, which suggests that Cursive is a Warlock. This would make sense. Three personalities. Three classes.

The next page has a few Ghost designs. Cursive has left now as Pencil closes up. They have written, "So fragile. We CAN be separated." The last sentence is underlined.

The page after that has a list of coordinates that have already been looked at, as seen in this post. The sigils of House Kings and House Devils appear here. There is also a height chart comparing human sizes to the main enemy types.

Hopefully this post sparks some discussion on the identity of our three personalities in the book, or encourages you to take a look at what you think you can find in the book.

This post got me wondering if Pen could be Wei Ning. Wei Ning took part in The Great Disaster and was killed by Crota, so that could explain why she drew Hive-related imagery in the Arms and Armament book. Perhaps she was researching them. However, I don't know if Wei had the Thunderlord. She preferred using her fists to most weapons

It also might be worth mentioning that the odd spine thing shown at the beginning of the book happens again at the end of the book, and the book progressively becomes more aged and less white.
