Spies should not go back to city center after successful counterspy

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 06:29 AM PDT

Giant map with 20+ civs, I was almost done with mars habitat launch, and the spy successfully blocked a sumerian spy. Then the spy returns to the city center mid mission, and now the empty space port is destroyed by an Aztec spy. I am pretty fucking tilted

Civ 5, are there any discord servers that set up games?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 08:29 PM PDT

Multiplayer is such an unpleasant experiance, Literally every game i find with randoms, people quit at around turn 15, or the game starts with an AFK. I am so sick of the terrible experiance Civ 5 multiplayer offers, are there any communities i can see to avoid leavers?

PSA about refusing free cities

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 10:12 AM PDT

I had a situation in a game last night I had never encountered before.

Out on the fringe of my Roman empire, the Cree landed a settler and planned on settling. I bought up many tiles around it, but he decided to settle anyway, even though the city location was now completely useless. I'm talkin snow, tundra, really only 1 crab to the cities name.

Well, not surprisingly, the city rebelled against the cree, became a free city, then soon asked to join the glorious Roman empire. My idea was I would rather keep it a free city, it was out of anyone elses influence, so whatever, I didn't want the garbage city.

So I refused it, but by doing so, the city stole a bunch of my purchased tiles, so it would have at least a standard 1 tile radius around the city center.

It was ironic because a few turns before, a different city rebelled, I captured it, then swapped a bunch of tiles, and liberated it back to a different civ.

So then I had to save scum, and decided to stop anyway, and it was just a whole todoo.

Is it just me, or is Vox Populi way harder than regular Civ5BNW?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 07:07 AM PDT

I've got over 2k hours in Civ V, I can win on difficulty 6 pretty much every time for non-cultural victories (and sometimes for cultural too, but it depends a lot on luck). But I just played my first Vox Populi game, as the Maya (who are very science based, it seems) on difficulty 4 and Denmark won a cultural victory (and they aren't even a cultural civ). Now I'm sure a lot of it has to do with that the game is basically totally different but I was really surprised that I lost, and also just how fast I lost.

What's up with CQUI?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 06:40 AM PDT

I have a slight suspicion I might not be the first to ask this, but what's up with CQUI? R&F has been out for months, but it hasn't been updated. CQUI was in my opinion the thing that made Civ6 at least somewhat bearable, and not having that mod has prevented me from returning to 6 time after time these past few months. What's going on?

Is my friend cheating at civ 5 multiplayer

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 04:25 PM PDT

Ok so i play some civ with a few friends and i believe one of them is cheating. I think its cheat engine, something i know he has on his computer as i will explain later.

Some stats from the game i called him out during

  • Quick speed
  • King difficulty
  • player in question has 185 hours in civ.
  • Turn 64 and he has a population of 2.2 million playing as japan.
  • 22% science.

  • he is near the top in soldiers had the 2nd religion (by 1 turn) and has 4 cities.

  • Player in question is somehow going through the tradition tree faster then me with two jungle cities and sacred path, my capital being one of them.

  • He has previously admitted to using cheat engine in a multiplayer game i played with him recently when i called him out this game.

In the previous game he claimed he used cheat engine in his cap was growing 1 per turn while saying it was starving.

  • During one turn another player claims he saw his pop jump by 400k during the middle of a turn (he claims he founded a city)

  • I have more then 1500 hours and have won science victories on immortal and a have won a diplomatic victory on deity although not science yet ( i have been close).

Any thoughts? Is he cheating in the current game?

Civ5 Spy modding question/issue

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 07:48 PM PDT

Hello!
As the title says, I have a question regarding modding Spies- specifically, I am trying to assign a particular spy the feminine gender, structured as such:

<Row Tag="TXT_KEY_SPY_NAME_CIV_0">
<Text>Kisara</Text>

<Gender>feminine</Gender>

</Row>

However, when in-game, my spy does not have the assigned gender.
It's a minor issue that doesn't affect gameplay, but as a perfectionist/mild case of OCD, it irks me just enough.

Any help would be appreciated in solving this!

A potential central problem with Civ VI: The Devs are kind of stingy with bonuses.

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 07:47 PM PDT

In general, I've kind of felt for a long time like the issue with Civ VI kind of goes hand in hand with early iterations of the game, and the issues with production costs there were back then - in general, you do not really get much back for the investment that you put in in Civ VI. Policy Cards are kind of lame in terms of the abilities that they give you, the bonuses the Wonders give you are underwhelming, trying to manage your troops to get them to do something useful in war is kind of tedious and time-consuming. Religion especially still provides marginal benefit for your investment because of the smallness of the bonuses.

Which brings me to the point - is Civ VI a drag - not colloquially, but does the game drag - because there is no real punch to any of the bonuses? While the game is admittedly snowbally, I often feel like smaller choices I make can be pretty insignificant. Most of your power is invisible, and only becomes apparent as you reach the mid-to-late game. Maybe that's part of what makes it a strategy game, and this is a baseless complaint. What do you think?

What is your recommended setup for my first game of Civ VI rise and fall?

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 03:58 PM PDT

I've played 1600+ hours of Civ V BNW, but haven't quite made the leap over to Civ VI yet. In Civ V, I pretty much only play Marathon/Historic Eras Mod on Huge maps with lots of additional Civs and city states - I love me those long slogs.

But I don't want that for Civ VI quite yet, I still have to get to know the mechanics, tech tree, timings. What setup would you recommend for a first game? I'm thinking Science victory should be the first to try out.

How can I get better at this game? (Civ V)

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 01:25 PM PDT

I've been playing for years and I never seem to be able to get better than the middle difficulty, where I seem to win 50/50 i'm always about neck and neck with the other AI's. How can I get to be the type of player doing crazy things like having nukes in 1400 AD?

When is it right to conquer a City-state? (Civ VI question)

Posted: 13 Jun 2018 08:21 AM PDT

I've played Civ VI for something like 700 hours, but I'm still not sure about this: When is it actually worthwhile to conquer a nearby city-state?

It seems to me like, much of the time, it's better to settle more cities in other locations, and control a nearby city-state via suzerainty, than it is to conquer a city-state and have one more city with the same bonuses as the rest of your cities. When should I conquer nearby city-states, instead of just controlling them with envoys?
