You have to win one Deity AI game of CIV VI to save the world from destruction; what are your settings?

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 03:10 AM PDT

On CIV VI, you could totally cheese it by turning off city states and selecting one AI opponent as Venice, what are the CIV VI strats?

How peaceful or warlike are you? (Civ V)

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 10:23 AM PDT

I find I usually tend to be fairly peaceful until the latter part of the endgame - then I find a weak target and steamroll them. I tend to do this around the time of musketmen at the earliest, artillery at the latest. This tends to be the earliest that I feel like I have a solid technological lead so that I don't have to spam a zillion units, which can be expensive. It's also the time when I tend to have enough income surplus and excess happiness to absorb the cash expenditure and deal with the unhappiness associated with annexing cities.

That said, I'm trying to change things up a bit. Previous game I played England with an archipelago map, and I found Shaka on my island; decided I wasn't going to wait until that became a problem, and drove him off the island entirely; he wound up having like two poor cities through to the end of the game. Moderately warlike after that, but not excessively so.

This match I'm playing as the Americans, and I managed to stay friendly with almost everybody the whole match through. Not one single instance of combat with anybody but barbarians until an ally (Babylon) asked me to declare war against the Inca, which was fine with me despite our friendly relations, because (1) they had settled a city on the other side of me, which was a minor nuisance, (2) I wanted to expand my religion, (3) they had chosen a different ideology, and (4) I wanted to gain stronger representation in the World Congress. Grabbed four of their cities and am about to offer a peace deal. Only real downside has been that my research times are longer now, but I'm within sight of a science victory. Would have liked a cultural victory for once, but I didn't really focus on culture until I was behind the power curve in that aspect. I'm one of the dominant cultures but not enough for the fact that I'm closing in on the late 1990s. Political win is possible but not likely given the fact that Venice still has strong ties to city-states and England has several; I have by far the most votes in the Congress but not near enough to win.

My playstyle tends to see me winning via science more than any other way - probably over 50% of the time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Democraciv needs you!!!

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 08:35 AM PDT

Hello r/civ.

My name is Lowesy/Uhtred and I am a Democraciv player and I am looking for the next Civ politician (ideally Politicians) to step forward and join and lead us.

So what is Democraciv I hear you cry? Well, its fairly simple. It is a democratically run game of Civilization in which the player base decides on who gets positions of power. Parties will appear, ideologies will be fought over and a game will be played.

At the moment we are setting up Mk.4 and there is plenty of opportunities for you to get involved and shape the game, with us voting on the final form of the constitutions, whether or not we play Civ 5 or 6 and of course the voting the civ we wish to play as!

You can follow us in several places.

Firstly, the subreddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/democraciv/

Secondly, our Discord - https://discord.gg/YKvdmTE

And Thirdly our twitch where the game is streamed for all citizens to see. - https://www.twitch.tv/democraciv

So drop into discord and check out the subreddit and join us to create a fantastic game and environment in which to play civ as a government of people!

Is is just me or does Suleiman screw the pooch every game?

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 07:54 AM PDT

He always seems well behind technologically and manages to make himself hated by almost the whole world every time I run into him. Oddly enough, I never have problems maintaining cordial relations with him. This last time I rebuffed all of his attempts to form a pact, but at the same time I managed to save his capital city by parking my scout blocking his enemies (who I have good relations with) from one of only two routes of access to his capital, which was in a coastal hex with a lake on the landward side.

How does he manage to always become as popular as Harvey Weinstein at a feminist convention?

Does anyone play civ on a tablet?

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 01:02 PM PDT

About 2 years ago I abandoned gaming on laptops for a nice desktop, but sometime I miss bringing a computer for gaming with me if I'm travelling or hanging out at a friend's place or something. So I was wondering, does anyone here play civ (5 or 6) on a tablet? And if so, what kind of tablet do you use? I mostly play slower paced strategy or simulation games, with Civilization being my bread and butter. I don't need anything with a super powerful GPU since I don't often play fast paced shooters or anything, just good enough to run Civ smoothly. So tablet gamers, what do you recommend, and why?

My Quickest Victory ever

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 05:54 PM PDT

So i wana start by saying when i got this victory i was only aware and played civ 6 for a good 2 months so I started a game as sythia using default everything (4 aI players). im normaly a passive player like gandy but in the late game i get very agressive and nuke the world (again... like gandy) but this game was diffrent Poland started next to me i wanted to be freinds but then she declares war on me i kill her as she had only 2 citys down and they were close by. 1 down 3 to go. i see that i have the biggest military in the world so i explore some more and find gilgamesh i decide to take him down but he did put up some fight as the war carts did kill some of my units but i take him down in around 10/15 turns. by then i had just got my special units i rushed them and found america near by so i take relatively quickly with my units. 1 left . and it turns out it was austrialia by then i had every city produicing units and just steam rolled austrailia then i got the victory cutsceen but the game crashed. luckly i saw the round counter and saw it was around 150 turns i think 152 but im not entirely sure. and that was my quickest victory ever this was around 1 year ago so NO RISE AND FALL

First Milestone?

Civ 6 runs very slow over time

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 05:33 PM PDT

Recently (within the last month or two) after about a half hour of playtime, Civ 6 starts to run much slower (something like 20% the speed) as it did before. I never used to have that issue. No changes in hardware. It never used to do this, I could play forever without any change in speed. If I quit Civ 6 completely and run again (w/o restarting computer), it's fine again for another half hour or so. Has anyone else experienced this?

First time finding any success on Emperor, not really sure where to go from here.

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 05:19 PM PDT

So, I've had some trouble breaking through from King to Emperor. I can win consistently on King, but usually I get wrecked on Emperor. I've posted here before and read other similar posts and tried to work with the advice given. I'm focusing more on military and on attacking and taking over other Civs early. In my current game, I managed to take out Poland pretty quick, and since I snagged an early pantheon and got Divine Spark, I managed to pick up a religion as well. Trouble is, I don't really know where to go from here. My only other neighbor is looking tougher to take, and the cities I captured from Poland aren't that great. What else should I be focusing on to avoid falling behind? What can I do to optimize my captured cities? Have I already spread too thin and doomed myself to fall behind?

Can't make AI make peace with each other

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 05:16 PM PDT

I can ask the ai to declare war on each other but I can't ask them to make peace, in the trade menu. Was this a new patch? Or is this a bug? Did they take this option out in EUI? I'm using eui as well as a bunch of other mods but nothing should affect it

Colonial Empires Part I

Posted: 18 Jun 2018 05:53 AM PDT

King Difficulty, standard size, quick speed, fractal map, all victory types enabled.

The Netherlands V. France, Great Britain, Rome, Macedonia and Spain.

I chose civilizations who were big colonizers IRL but I should have removed France who doesn't have a colonizer agenda in the game and replaced them by The Aztecs or Persia whose agendas lead them to colonize more, by settling or warring. I also normally play on Emperor but decided to take the difficulty down onelevel to make it more relaxed for me, and I think that was a mistake, especially in the early game. Please be gentle, English is not my first language.

Part 1: City States, Wars, Diplomacy: The Problem of Wavering Loyalty in The Hague

I. Which Way to The Sea?

Our great Dutch nation, queendom and empire was born on the famous hilly and mountainous river banks of what would become Amsterdam. Although the early settlers felt a strong inclination towards sailing and trading, they found no sea or ocean in range of their newly founded city-state and decided to build a second colony closer to the shore. A makeshift company of civilians and primitive soldiers specialised in ranged attacks departed for the closest spot of land that opened onto the sea, leaving Amsterdam completely undefended (which they would never have done, had they known which empire was already sprawling on its doorstep). This led to an unexpected meeting with a scouting party from a neighbouring city-state called London – more on this later.

This expedition left Amsterdam completely undefended against possible barbarian incursions or unfriendly meetings with yet undiscovered neighbours. Looking back on it now, we know how dangerous and foolish that was – nobody knew that two sprawling and populous empires were beginning their expansion just on the other side of the mountain. Amsterdam was no pushover however; its population had been steadily increasing and so had its military contingents, who were training to dissuade the Londonian queen Victoria from invading and to quell skirmishes in a new settlement, The Hague, whose loyalty was faltering to say the least as its citizens were heavily influenced by the nearby British settlements of London, Manchester and Leeds.

II. Disloyal War for A Disloyal City

In an attempt to protect her interests in The Hague, Wilhelmina had a new settlement be founded on the coast close to the city, which had a major impact in the next few decades for the building of an infrastructure, the development of internal trade between Dutch city-states, and the training and the transport of troops to The Hague. Indeed, as you may have guessed already, Wilhelmina declared war on Victoria, catching the British queen unprepared for an invasion as her forces were still recovering from the annexation of the independent city of Palenque. The close-by British city of Leeds fell rapidly. Well defended and protected by a river, London, which had become the capital city of the British kingdom made up of five (well, four now) cities, was much more difficult to attack but a combination of intelligent tactics and favourable terrain helped the Dutch regiments overcome Victoria's defences. Wilhelmina herself would have visited the troops to boost morale, but knowing that she was no Attila, she remained in Amsterdam where she presided over the development of the city-states conglomerate now known as the Dutch kingdom; two more cities had been founded and developed during the first Anglo-Dutch war (known as the Leodensian War), which ended in a resounding victory for the Dutch armies after the capture of London. Battered and defeated, Victoria retreated in her new capital, Palenque.

III. The World Is Round!

By the time Victoria capitulated, the Dutch scouting expeditions had already discovered the land around them and met several other kingdoms; some large, like the Roman cities ruled by Trajan south-east of the mountain, the Black Queen's French kingdom in the western part of the continent or the Macedonian encampments in the far western regions of the world; and some small city-states like Muscat, Preslav, Nan-Madol or Antioch. Wilhelmina's friendly demeanour led her people to seek friendship rather than domination over the smaller nations. By virtue of diplomacy, she soon enjoyed suzerainty over Muscat, who would have protected the newly consolidated empire against a surprise French invasion, and Nan-Madol, whose friendship allowed the Dutch culture to flourish. She had also started strong and lasting friendships with all her counterparts thanks to her fast exploration and ability to trade.

When the Dutch left what is known as their Dark Ages and entered a lasting golden age (roughly around the start of the Medieval era) our kingdom had become an empire. Its size was the envy of Rome, France marvelled at its architectural and cultural prowess, and Greece praised its military feats. Disloyalty in The Hague was never an issue again and neither were the British. But war, raging for centuries between the French and the Macedonian in the West, was also brewing in the East between the Spanish kingdom and the Roman empire.

Next:

Do you even religion? Philip gets annoyed and Wilhelmina gets sassy.

Portsmouth hits the friendzone.

Ships with an unpronounceable name roam seas and oceans covered in everyone's favourite tile improvement.

A monarch meets their maker and another gets on their way.

Bonus - Alexander and Catherine in: The War That Lasted All Game And Led To Nothing Whatsoever.
