Art No 2: This painting depicts a muffalo grazing on grass. The lower part of the painting is dominated by a river. The style is done in watercolor with childish influence. The art is infused with the idea of quietude.

Prisoner treatment.

So my girlfriend sat down next to me while i was playing today just as i was cleaning up after a raid. Triaging casualties, capturing downed prisoners, and executing a few since i did not have the manpower to save them all (my fields need fertilizer anyways). So she asked what i was doing and i explained to her all nonchalant that i was cutting off the legs of the undesirable prisoners so they couldn't escape and i could save them to harvest organs when i need them... And she was completely appalled... i think rimworld has turned me into a monster

i've been playing this game for years, and just did my first raid! damn that was exciting!

photo is of the aftermath.

i first played rimworld years ago with version 1135 or whatever, then picked it up again with this latest version. a SOLID month of re playing and several bases in (also finding out the wonders of the infinite chemreactor as a power source), i launched my first assault on an outpost! gah! i'm so psyched that i just had to share!

(context: it's middle of winter on a planet with extra rainfall, generally cooler temperatures. Zombieland is active)

i loaded my squad of 5 into 4 drop pods (because that works apparently...), packed up some components, some survival food, and a load of wood to build a small base. i land at a small mountain base, and quickly ramshackle my hut together on the back side of the rock. (gotta hide from the zombies when they come!!) i thought i'd have more time, seeing as i launched at dawn, but the small map quickly had over 80 zombies by mid day! the zombies quickly drew out the defenders, who then launched a counter assault. it was a chaotic mess outside my walls with guns a-blazing and mobs of zombies chowing down on the poor fools. i decided to wait out the storm and just dig through to their base, but then they broke and fled, while having killed the bulk of the zombies for me!

I quickly ran around to their side of the hill and started dismantling everything to build some pod launchers and get the hell out of there. I did not realize i only had 3 days before i would be turned into a caravan, and i was totally unprepared for the 18 day trek back to my base, and past multiple hostile outposts. I tore their structure apart, did a little mining, and had myself 3 launchers and 3 pods. just barely enough to get my squad back.

except! I forgot the chemfuel!! i selected it to be loaded in with the assault team, but it was nowhere to be found! i clicked back to my base, and sure enough... it was sitting all the way at the other end in a stockpile...

I called on my trusty constructor (now complete with her bionic arm, having needed a shoulder amputation several years prior due to infection), and got a new pod built asap. then painstakingly had to micro manage a guy to load up chemfuel and some final bits of steel into the pod. (seriously, why don't they fully prioritize that task?)

meanwhile, it was D-day back on the front lines. waves of zombies came crashing in, with 4 of my fighters valiantly holding them off while the fifth did her best to finish the final pod. they had to hold out for the chemfuel shipment. they must survive! after an intense rush of heavy zombies, a few toxic ones, and even the suicide vest guys, they managed to shoot the last one down right before the chemfuel arrived!

i had to leave all my food, chemfuel, and extra steel behind to fit my 5 colonists and the remaining components into the pods, and finally, they could return home. and there she was, a beautiful infinite chemreactor, just waiting for me.

(also, this is my very first post on reddit. would appreciate any tips and wisdom. thanks!)

Dear Tynan, when you first envisioned rimworld, what was the overall mood of the game like?

Posted: 10 May 2018 07:10 PM PDT

Was the game a desperate, hopeless attempt to survive? Or a more "On the bright side..", less bleak game? (not talking about mechanics, just overall mood)
