Why do 343 Spartans have arms the size of a wrist?

Instead of big armor, small shoulder; shouldn't it be big shoulder, small armor to achieve the iconic silhouette?

The ending to Halo: Primordium in a nutshell

What if Halo 6 actually DOES cater to everyone? Spartan Abilities and Classic.

Posted: 27 May 2018 09:23 AM PDT

Regardless of what you think of 343 they have had a habit of doing awesome things that nobody really expected them to. Sure sometimes those awesome things have bad results (the MCC being the prime example there), but typically nobody expects the cool stuff we end up getting.

Like it or not in Halo 5 we got the Reach grenade launcher, plasma rifle, a game type where we fight AI AND players while having 24 freaking players in a game for the first time ever. On top of that just about every piece of Forge content people could possibly have even thought about. From almost every significant environmental object from the game's levels and Campaign to what must've been gigantic developmental headaches like advanced scripting and game type creation. Hell we got stuff that let us create rudimentary AI functionality!

343 CAN deliver awesome stuff that satisfies a lot of segments of the community. Halo 5 didn't start out with much, but came to have way more than any previous Halo. So what if Halo 6 does in fact cater to a lot of segments of the population?

Think about it, the only real hurdle to a classic style game in Halo 5 is the way the sandbox interacts with each other. The weapons have a bit too much of auto aim or bullet magnetism or grenades are too powerful. What if those can be adjusted in the next game? And don't tell me that this is too much of a stretch considering the advanced tools we got later on in Halo 5's life cycle. I'm sure it would be difficult, but I don't see it out of the realm of possibility. The movement system is fine, hell Halo 5 with the jump height adjusted is almost as floaty as Halo 3.

So what if the next Halo game with all this extra dev time actually does have a lot of options for everybody? I doubt they'd want to get rid of their core with Spartan Abilities. They may not have held Halo 3 kinds of population, but plenty of people enjoy it. But that doesn't mean that a Classic kind of Halo can't be built and ready for launch alongside that. Sandbox balance and map design are the key things to a Classic Halo game, but give the tools and maybe design a couple maps with the abilities and it'd be good to go. We could have Classic style playlists and newer playlists with abilities.

I don't think we should be limiting Halo to some kind of gameplay that people consider it to exclusively be. I've always seen Halo as everything a shooter should be. Save for a PC game, there are very few shooters out there on console where you can do the shit that you can in Halo. The only game I can think of is Far Cry and even then Forge seems to have way more varied tools for functional creation of crazy gametypes at the expense of certain objects just not looking perfect.

The thought of this seems exciting to me if this is how it turns out.

My ideal Halo 5 Campaign as requested

Posted: 27 May 2018 06:19 PM PDT

Careful, big text post ahead. Here's the quick summary, then more in depth below. I'm a bad writer so excuse my writing. I'm rushing it and it's probably gonna be shit and hard to read, but ah well.

Plot Arcs: John coping with the loss of Cortana and being a soldier, The UNSC vs Covenant, the Didact's return and the consequences of ONI and the Spartan 4's.

Gameplay Locations: Installation 05, Sanghelios, Installation 01, The Ark.

Prologue: We have darkness, turning into many news reports of current events. "It is the one year anniversary of the New Phoenix incident.... Didn't we defeat the Covies years ago?....." And so on, and this montage ends with them talking about the Chief, asking "What is our hero doing now?"

Mission 1: Installation 05 We see Chief keeping to himself in the back of a pelican. Dubbo and other marines are with him. They notice that Chief has been going non-stop recently, and they wonder if he'll ever break. They are cleaning up the quarantined ring after Jul's forces have gone their to salvage old treasure. It serves as an introductory mission.

Mission 2-4: Sanghelios Infinity recieves a distress call from the Elite planet, where they are facing a massive invasion. They go to help. These missions are Chief fighting alongside Arby and other fan favourites. Ends with them taking down a sort of Super-Scarab that Jul's made. We are told that Jul's been recruiting the Drones, Skirmishers and other species who all want revenge on Humanity. His superior firepower is due to him finding a massive lost supply cache of weapons and technology from the past war. Arby also tells us that ONI was supplying Jul with weapons earlier and are partly responsible for the whole conflict.

Mission 5: Flagship After pushing back the invasion, the Arbiter and Chief board Jul's flagship as one final attack. At the last moment Jul escapes in a pod, but they capture Halsey. She talks to Chief, and says that she's found a trace of Cortana. Infinity tells him not to go, but Chief is hellbent on any source of hope, so he steals a ship and flies to it's mystery destination. The Arbiter returns to clean up the planet.

Mission 6: The Lost Ring Chief finds the transmission's source, on Installation 01. The ring is all sand and industrial, no signs of life. He encounters prometheans. At the end of the mission he is ambushed by Locke, who is sent by ONI to bring him back. Chief escapes and keeps searching for Cortana.

Mission 7: Fragment He is running through the foundries while evading Locke. He hears glitchy and fragmented visions of Cortana calling him. At the end he finds the source just as Locke sees him. They punch it out, and Chief wins due to his childhood upbringing. Then it turns out Cortana was a trick from the Didact, who emerged on the ring after Halo 4.

Mission 8: Escape Warthog run level. Chief escapes the Prometheans and leaves the Facility just to see the Covenant and Infinity both traced his signal. They retreat away from the ring and follow the trail to the destroyed Ark. Halsey says that only another Forerunner can stop the Didact.

Mission 9: Mendicant Bias The final act is on the destroyed Ark. Infinity battles through both Prometheans and Covies as they look for the Forerunner AI. Chief goes alone and finds him, and the cutscene is simlar to the hooded Chief one we all know.

Final Stand The final mission, Chief talks to Bias about the Didact and how to stop him. Chief's gene upgrade is the cure for all humans, and Mendicant Bias has it on his hard drive. So they make a final stand on the damaged Ark as they get extracted by Infinity.

Epilogue The result of this campaign is that 1) Chief's choice to ditch Sanghelios allowed Jul's forces to win and take the planet. The Arbiter is in hiding. 2) Chief realises that he is just a broken machine and is only good for war. 3) The Didact is alive and wants to alter the rings to only compose humans, nothing else. 4) ONI's actions have been exposed and Locke delivers a report to them that John is alive.

Absolutely long and crazy text post, I know. Thanks for reading if you did. If you have any questions I'd be happy to clarify. Basically, this campaign splits up Covenant and Promethean missions, has old and new locations, provides a better story and still advances the overall canon.

[SPOILERS] Does it bother anyone else about what happened to the Rookie after Halo 3: ODST?

Posted: 27 May 2018 10:09 PM PDT

I guess it just feels cheap to have a Protagonist of the series to die in a book. I think it would have been really neat to have seen J.D. as a Spartan IV and even have further adventures within the game series.

I get it, realistically, heroes die all the time. But I would have liked a little more time with this character.
