What John McDonald is doing is exactly the kind of communication we want.

Posted: 07 May 2018 04:54 PM PDT

Two days ago, John McDonald (Valve dev) did a sort of AMA on twitter where he answered quite a few useful questions. He also recently revealed Valve's work on VACnet anti-cheat and answered questions in the reddit thread about it.

This is the kind of communication that people ask for. Communication does not require making promises or giving deadlines for when things are going to be released, and nobody is asking for them. What we do want is exactly what was shown in the AMA: answers to simple questions that the community has, without producing any promises. It establishes trust and good feeling, and keeps us in the loop. For example we now know that they are still working on Panorama UI, and it's still a focus, it's just taking a long time. By telling us this he didn't create any expectations, and yet it is great for the community to know.

John McDonald has been great recently, and if he (or other devs) keeps up the same type of communication it would go a huge way in community satisfaction and would undoubtedly reduce complaining.

OPTIONAL Counter-Strike: Global Offensive update for servers for 5/7/18

Posted: 07 May 2018 01:53 PM PDT

Via csgo_servers:

An optional stability update for CS:GO game servers to address several network exploits has been released with PatchVersion=1.36.3.4 and ServerVersion=667.

Rumor has it:

  • This update is OPTIONAL (for server operators)

  • If you're an ordinary player and you don't operate a server (let alone know how to), there's nothing of interest for you, please carry on

FACEit needs harder Punishments for Griefers

Posted: 07 May 2018 02:46 PM PDT

FACEit has been putting out very nice updates lately but there is still some thing that bothers me.

I can totally understand, that they dont want to implement the VoteKick System into FaceIT Free because they actually want to have reasons for people to buy their Premium.

FACEit Free is actually decent right now (been playing 50% of my Matches in Free Queue, EU (around 1,9-2k Elo)

but every 5-6 Matches you get a tilted boy, that starts giving out your spots to the enemy team through chat because he wants to troll you.

The Problem is that you cant really do much about it, here are your options:

1) report him after game in the implemented System

-> punishment takes long and starts from 1 day which is actually laughable for someone that is griefing this hard

2) you open a support ticket

-> I did this various times, also linked the demo + timestamps where the player griefed (which is easy to tell, they just call ur spot in all chat every round) and they told me to use their implemented system.

Now dont get me wrong, even if the implemented System worked faster, the bans should be way way heavier.

Griefing should result in a minimum 3-4 Week Ban at the first instance and a 1/2 Year ban at the second instance imo

I mean, even Matchmaking punishes griefers harder than FACEit, and yes I can understand that they probably get loads of reports in their Support Tickets but especially if you dont have much time to queue over the day and get the same griefer 3 games in a Row in that night it can be very frustrating
