/r/Civ Free Talk Friday - May 11, 2018

Posted: 11 May 2018 03:15 AM PDT

Greetings r/Civ.

Hello and welcome to Free Talk Friday, a megathread where everyone can rant, vent, or otherwise express themselves to their heart's content. This is also a place where you can organize your thoughts, or even a party for multiplayer games if you so wish to.

Despite the mostly free of expression, however, we would like to ask you to still follow the rules, mainly:

  • Be polite as much as possible. Don't be rude or vulgar to anyone.
  • Keep your comments civil and as respectful as you can. If you cannot say anything good, please hide and ignore the comment.
  • Memes are allowed in the thread, but Politics and other controversial topics are not permitted to prevent offending certain people.

For other Weekly/Monthly threads, you can now view them here.

There is currently a bug with running the Rise & Fall Expansion with the existing DLC which in some cases makes it impossible to start a game. A more detailed explanation of this bug can be found in this post.

As a temporary fix until we can get an official patch, you can download either this unofficial patch by Deliverator23, or with this patch by Gedemon.

After having only played Civ VI for the past several months, I went back to Civ V again. Unfortunately that led to a bit of disappointment with this academy placement.

Spring Update: Found any undocumented changes?

Posted: 11 May 2018 06:10 AM PDT

If you find anything changed in the May 2018 Civ 6 update that isn't listed here, please post it in this thread. Make sure you take account of any mods you have active first (patches can break mods that aren't updated yet, causing odd things to happen).

The tiles are poor, all the sea resources are just out of reach of optimal city placement, and its shaped like a dick. I shall call it Cock Tease Island.

How does Civ VI determine which religion a city is?

Defending against a cultural victory....

Posted: 11 May 2018 12:50 PM PDT

I am new to Civ6, but have been playing Civ since 1 came out....

I just lost a cultural victory; I saw that the victory was coming, so I pushed my culture forward as much as I could, and took sway over australia a few turns before I lost....how could I have lost then? I was second overall in culture, and had just captured australia.....any tips? I was on the third lowest difficulty.

Just confused about how this worked.....

Do you feed a city or a feeder city? (CIV VI)

Posted: 11 May 2018 06:45 AM PDT

As I am unable to create my own impression of what is the best and therefor I ask you, fellow people. In CIV V it was a good to most of the time send all trade routs to the same city, to create a MEGA city. But with the food boost to trade routs to a city from the new Governor in CIV VI, I am left pondering what the best thing to do is.

Pls hlp

How do I build Caravans and Cargo ships?

Posted: 11 May 2018 08:07 PM PDT

I want to establish trade routes with other civs and I hear people talk about caravans and cargo ships but I've never seen them in the units you can produce. I play vanilla except for some mods. Are they part of an expansion pack or something?

AIs unreasonable peace offers?

Posted: 11 May 2018 01:52 PM PDT

How does the AI determine whether they want peace or not? I'm kinda struggling and they are actually sieging one of my cities and have way more units than I do, but I believe they want peace (and to pay 30 gpt) because they've lost quite a lot of units (which AI naturally does especially when attacking).

I would understand them maybe wanting peace but I don't understand the 30 gpt tribute to me when I have very few units left and I'm basically sandwiched between two civs.
