Out of Fight Money from playing Extra Battle. Will we ever get a second shot at Rathalos armor?

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 08:14 AM PDT

Curious since I want the costume. I have the first three pieces and I just managed to run out of Fight Money from grinding for costumes and there aren't many more ways to earn more in time.

Why is everyone upset about LTG making it to Eleague?

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 10:26 AM PDT

I don't enjoy his playstyle or his attitude online but I'd be lying if I said the man's not entertaining. He's a heel and has quite possibly the most entertaining persona in the FGC. He's gonna bring in the casual audience and hopefully help the genre grow as a whole.

Zeku worst match ups?

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 08:08 AM PDT

I think zeku can handle most of the roster pretty well, but there's a few characters I struggle against.

Ibuki - worst match up for me (she's too fast)

Ryu - only a really decent ryu player who knows how zeku plays

Akuma - same as ryu a good akuma player can give me trouble

Guile - can deal with him most of the time but his defense can be a problem

R.mika - I find this bitch tough to deal with once she's up close from a distance she's useless

Chun li - just a pain in the arse some times but same as ryu and akuma has to be a decent player.

Abigail - I always see this as 50/50 round depending on how they play, if they just spam the run move i can usually flip over and punish him.

Nash - has a lot of ways to get past the slash kick and can be a pain once he's in my face.

Rashid - I don't get this match up a lot but he can be a pain the ass when he wants to be.

Blanka - i tend to young zeku this match up but I still struggle with a decent blanka player.

Urien - has a good long and short game and he can zone against me pretty well.

Cammy - just a pain in the ass has an answer for everything

Dhalsim - I usually young zeku this match up too if he is spamming his teleport and HP. But similar to urien can keep me at a distance.

These seem to be the main characters that give me a bit of trouble, but are there any more match ups he struggles against.

Now that Alex's Lariat is sp.cancelable, why use st.hp?

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 04:16 AM PDT

St.hp is 10 frames startup, -1 on hit and -3 on block. 3 frames active and 22 frames recovery. (Very whiff punishable.)

Lariat is 11 frames startup, +7 on hit and +3 on block. 4 frames active and 16 frames recovery.

Judging by frame data, St.Hp is only better by 1 frame in startup. In every other area Lariat crushes St.Hp. St.Hp does get a Hp.chop into backdrop on CH but thats really all thats noteworthy about it now. It seems like now this move is nearly useless.

I suggest they slow it down a few frames more, make it more punishable, and then turn it into an overhead since it honestly looks like one aesthetically.

What do you guys think about the move now and what would you do to change it if you think it needs changing?

So far so good, 11 different characters got crossover costumes. I really hope ALL playable characters get one of those. Who do you want to see after Guile?

Karin - Ingrid (Capcom Fighting Evolution)

Rashid - Viewtiful Joe (Viewtiful Joe)

Chun Li - June (Star Gladiator)

Nash - Captain Commando (Captain Commando)

Ken - Rathalos (Monster Hunter)

Mika - Zinogre (Monster Hunter)

Ibuki - Kirin (Monster Hunter)

Urien - Donovan (Darkstalker)

Menat - Khaibit (Darkstalker)

Juri - Lilith (Darkstalker)

Guile - Nameless Super Soldier (Forgotten Worlds)

Besides Cammy or Menat, who do you think is strong right now?

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 02:31 AM PDT

I'm only asking because I'm pretty sure I've seen players of every single character saying their character is bad. Characters that were buffed, people are saying "it's not enough" and characters that were nerfed, people are saying "my main is ruined." You can't have a whole game of low tier characters, so who's actually good?

For the record I think Cammy is probably #1 right now but only barely, I think most of her matchups are 5-5s with maybe some 6-4's here and there, she's just the only character I see anyone agreeing on. Menat's MUs are a bit more extreme (good and bad) but I feel like she'd eventually be seen as clear #1 if the game was never patched again

Cammy's buffs are really feeling like a curse in disguise

Posted: 07 Apr 2018 09:32 AM PDT

So, after thinking about it I decided to give my opinion about the buffs Cammy received in Season 3.5 and what they mean for the character in the long term. While the buffs Cammy received don't change the way she has played since Season 2 or her gameplan in general they're not small enough that can be brushed off either:

  • She got a new V-trigger 1 combo route that gives her a new nifty way to confirm into CA or spend the whole V-Meter in a single big combo, but the combo requires a confirm from a target combo or a very precise AA DP to work and generally it's not worth it to spend the whole V-Trigger right away. So, while this new addition is certainly a considerable expansion to her options in V-Trigger 1 it's also more situational than it might initially look, and for the most part the gameplan with V-Trigger 1 won't change too much.

  • Her light DP got upper body invincibility like it was before Season 2.5. This improves her already very strong AA game and make up for the big nerf to bMP of Season 3 that made Cammy a little more vulnerable to crossups.

  • Her V-Trigger 2 got buffed but it still looks like an unsafe gimmick to me, the hop still gets anti-aired by jabs, it still likely loses to all kind of invincible moves, and I don't think that it will be used much, if at all.

  • Her added 50 resistance to stun is probably her bigger buff this season as she has an easier time surviving burst damage situation. All of her buffs are pretty unnecessary and this one is likely the one that came the most out of the blue.

  • Her nerf to crLK ended up being extremely minor, as far as I know it only invalidated crLP, crLK, stLP while leaving stLK, crLK, stLP working perfectly well. So Cammy still has her extremely useful blockstring that combos on counter hit, is a tick throw on block on the first normal and a low check on the second, I was sure that they were going to remove that combo to balance out her buffs elsewhere.

  • In the end I think that the changes to her throws are actually the biggest nerfs and even then that's debatable. Her throws do more damage but much less stun, going from Season 2.5 to 3 Cammy's forward throw went from doing 200 stun to 150 stun and now in S3.5 only 120 stun, in my book this is a nerf because I'd rather be able to stun my opponent with a throw over doing 10 more damage.

Overall Cammy is (even) stronger than before but not by much. Nothing in the patch truly changes the way she plays, she just gets more stuff to work with even if she doesn't need it. Frankly I think that if we compare Season 3 Rashid with Season 3.5 Cammy Rashid would still look like a better version of Cammy. Regardless of this these buffs pissed a lot of people off on social media and elsewhere, and personally I think they're perfectly right at being pissed: it simply doesn't make any sense for Capcom to go and give such clear-cut buffs to one of the already most fundamentally strong characters in the game while simultaneously being so cautious (I'm thinking of Ryu who seems to have got a mix of buffs and nerfs that doesn't help him) or uncaring (Vega has been sucking for 3 seasons in a row now) toward many other low tiers. Buffing Cammy and Menat, two already successful tournament characters, while nerfing all of the competition around them and not doing enough to buff the low tiers just feels absurd.

As a Cammy main this is particularly unfortunate because neither I nor any Cammy player in their right mind asked for these buffs, and at this point I know how Capcom handles balance: their balance philosophy since Season 2 has been extremely kneejerky and seemingly based on a superficial analysis of the community's most vocal complains on social media and various FGC sites, they see who's the character that's being complained about the most and then systematically kill him or her in the next season to the point of unviability. It happened to Chun, Ryu and Nash in Season 1, to Balrog, Ibuki and Laura (and Laura was overrated in my opinion) in Season 2, it likely happened to Rashid recently and without a doubt Cammy will be completely gutted in the next season because Capcom is doing the exact opposite of what they said they were going to do: greatly nerfing the top tiers and do very little for the low tiers, unless they're characters from the previous Season Pass as they always get mad buffs in order to push sales (see Balrog, Guile and Urien all being considered underwhelming at the time of their release and then become top tiers in the next patch, same thing recently with Kolin, Menat and Abigail).

In the end, even as a Cammy main, I'm not happy at all with Cammy's changes in Season 3.5 and I think they'll only harm the character in the long run. Her being currently tied with Menat as best character in the game doesn't look so good when you also consider that this is the last season she's going to be competitively viable because of Capcom's predictably atrocious balancing, and the reason Cammy is getting nerfed next year is because of buffs no one even asked for but Capcom gave her anyway because they're atrocious at balancing stuff.

tl;dr: Capcom's balancing is awful.
