Harris was ascetic. I didn't feel like moving the furniture.

Kind of afraid to even visit this settlement. Especially if I don't bring as much human leather as they requested.

This merchant wants my prisoners. Slavery is fine with me, but this seems unethical?

First time trying mods

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 05:41 PM PDT

... and holy shit, it's a completely different game.

Earlier tonight I was bored and browsing through my Steam library for a game to play. Rimworld, I thought. That's cool. But I didn't want to, because I'd played it so many times before, and I'm one of these players who will never finish a game. So for the first time- I'm generally not a fan of using mods for weird puritanical reasons- I went on the workshop, and went hog wild. Downloaded something like 20 mods.

First landing in a mod savannah. The three survivors all grew up as urbworld orphans. One became a bartender, Benny, the other a bodyguard, Lovegood, and the third a con artist, Belle. Plus a corgi.

Day 5, having tamed half a herd of muffallo, an elephant and an alpaca, I get my first raid. 'Cool', I thought, 'no problem'. Some nut job with a large stick and an aversion to clothing. Who washes up on the beach but Burton- a grossly overweight Latino man, buck-naked cradling an AR rifle probably held together by elastic bands (30% durability or something). Burton was one of those pitiful kids who grew up in hardship then matured to become that hardship's dick-swinging manifestation on this plane- he grew up on a war-ravaged planet bombed to shit with napalm, his father a medic, him doing what he could to help. When he became a man, he was a small industrial town sheriff. I like to imagine small collectives in industrial wastes were what passed as 'villages' after the mighty war, and his father's reputation carried him to the top, where he abused his power and became a sort of minor warlord.

In any case, Burton was a useless sack of flesh, but perhaps the sole thing he knew to do in life was aim a gun (with his good eye- the left one was scratched). And so he rolled up to my base, and before Lovegood- my butch lesbian bodyguard equipped with a hunting rifle and garbed in the armour of a medieval visitor beaten to death in an argument by his comrades- even made it to the crystalline shack structure I had been using as a home region and storage, this Mad Max reject fired off three shots at Benny the bartender. The first two missed- the third instantly blew apart his skull. He then grabbed some of my silver, all my components, and ran off the nearby edge of the map, as fast as his pounding, glistening, rolling body would allow while straddling that excuse for a rifle.

So... I don't think the gun mods out there are quite adjusted for the pace of the game. But I'm awed by this bizarre first week on the rim, and wait with predatory excitement for my next encounter with the fat man Burton.

Maybe one of my colonists who died wasn't that good a person or lacked people skills. Well it's a sad life in the Rim.

Looking for some feedback on my 2nd base

Would also love some advice on my power setup. This stuff confuses me and it took a while to understand switches. I just added those extra power banks in the north and south ends of the base and am currently trying to get them filled (do i need to switch off a bank if it's not drawing any power? do they drain even without use?) Geothermal is being researched as we speak so i'm about to switch over (is it ok to have long lengths of conduit going into my base? Will enemies try to destroy it? I have a large cave system to the south of the base that I plan to run it through and wall up the gerothermal generator.

I'm getting the hang of this game and loving it. My first play my colonists died within minutes because i had no idea what i was doing! I just lost 3 people to the plague, one of them was by far my best colonist. :( Nicky is currently super depressed about it (He was one of the original three with her) and they were all her friends.

I have 17 luciferium. I can't decide if i want to use it or not. I'm waiting for traders to come by with more so i can stock up for some real long term use.

My killbox is noob, i know. I also don't know what i'm doing on that front; ive basically tried to copy layouts from other bases i've seen on here. I've been waiting to build turrets for it; I learned the hard way in my last map that components are hard to come by. The north end of my base is dedicated to mining for more right now. It's been slim pickens.

In early game I made sure to build a decent chunk rendering station, so i've been trying to save up sandstone blocks so i can replace all my wood walls and bolster them from outside. Also, i'm playing on casual pheobe, should i turn up the difficulty if I want to get raided by more than one guy with a knife? What should my next room be?

Also caravans- i haven't had a successful one yet. I tried sending someone with a muffalo for a trade and the colonist didn't move from the 2nd square next to mine in the world view (??) Idk what the issue was, i made sure they were within their carry limit.

Does furniture block vents/coolers?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 10:39 PM PDT

I've read the wiki and spent a few minutes searching, can't find this answered. The game says "solid" objects block vents. Does that include furniture like chairs, tables, potted plants, etc?

Thanks!
