Professionalism by the NALCS is an example that should be followed by other networks and sports

The fact that there was 0 coverage about DL's situation is something amazing, respecting the privacy of a players family and personal struggles. Guarenteed ESPN, NBC, ABC, any other sport or network, would milk the shit out of it for ratings. Mad props to the interviewers, script writers, and entire production

I am a 70 year old woman who plays and watches professional League of Legends, AMA!

Posted: 08 Apr 2018 04:35 AM PDT

Hi guys me here again! Yesterday my post about my grandmother who plays LoL with me and watches every Team Liquid game as well kind of blew up more than I expected, and I've been trying to reply to everyone but there's a ton of comments!

Anyways, after telling my grandmother about her newfound fame, she really didn't understand why everyone loved her. I suggested we could do an AMA where people from the community get to ask her whatever and she agreed!

Of course, I'll be the one typing, but I will ask her (hopefully) every question you guys give throughout the day!

Here's the best proof I can get(She hates cameras): https://imgur.com/a/uuLZQ

Poppy Stronk

Posted: 08 Apr 2018 03:35 AM PDT

So I was doing some thinking about Poppy ultimate...

Previously, Riot had already confirmed poppy as the strongest champion in the game. People did the usual thing and brought up Galio or Malphite being so large that just moving around would take more strength. But Poppy can move them around too. So this got me to thinking of how much angry yordle energy actually goes into a Poppy ultimate.

Character Size

First thing was to find out how big the characters we're looking at are.

  • After the visual rework, Poppy is a slightly above average yordle at 3'5 and 55lbs (about 104cm and 25kg)

  • Previously, Malphite was given as 36ft tall, 28ft wide, and 86 tons (or 10.97x8.53m and 8.7x104 kg to the rest of us)

  • After his visual update, however, he was just described as "the size of a mountain."

So the UN Environmental Program's smallest definition for a mountain is at a 300m (980ft) elevation change within 7km (4.3mi). Assuming Malphite is not extremely wide with a shallow slope, the 300m number is all we really care about here. Fudging some numbers for a perfectly cone shaped mountain with a diameter of 200m and height of 300m, we find our small mountain to have a mass of approximately 9x109 kg (~2x1010 lbs).

In game distances

Next, we had to see how far the Poppy ult moved Malphite within the scale he has in the game. We can try to do this by converting in game units to the different scales.

  • As we already know, 100 in game units is about 1 standard Teemo. As Malphite has a width of about 2 Teemos, we can guess he is about 200 units wide.

  • Estimates from various sources give us a maximum Poppy ult distance of around 3000 units.

  • We can convert this to a distance of 127.5m (~418ft) for the small Malphite and 3km (~1.9mi) for our small mountain.

Energy in the impact

This bit was the most math and where I probably did something wrong. Energy imparted in an impact depends on how fast the propelled object is going after the impact, it's mass, the time said impact took, and the distance over which the impact occurred.

  • Counting frames, we see that the impacting hammer of Poppy's ultimate hits the target for about 4 frames, or .067 seconds

  • The impacting hammer protrudes from the ground at about twice the height of the average champion.

  • Targets are sent flying at about 1500 units/s, or 64m/s (143mph) for small Malphite and 1500m/s (3355mph) for our small mountain.

These numbers give us a resultant force on Malphite of 8.3x107 N and 2x1014 N on the small mountain. Assuming each impact is over approximately twice the height of the Malphite, we see required energy at 9x108 J and 6x1016 J.

Using the average yield from TNT and nuclear explosions, we find an impact from Poppy's ult is equivalent to 215kg (474lbs) of TNT up to an astonishing 14 Megaton warhead.

Thus Poppy has at least ten times the energy density of TNT, even with our example of a small Malphite.

tldr: Still not strong enough to carry team

EU LCS Spring Finals production value of the live event is infinitely better than the NA LCS Spring finals.

Posted: 08 Apr 2018 10:07 AM PDT

I attended the NA LCS spring finals yesterday in Miami and this morning I've been watching the EU LCS spring finals and I'm honestly dumbfounded at how much better the arena, staging, and production is at the EU finals.

The choice of location for NA is smalll, cramped, and not even remotely close to the EU one. Lights of all colors were kept on during the entirety of the games POINTED at the crowd. It was hot as hell and the choices for food/drinks were absolutely awful.

Has this always been the case? First live event attended and god was I disappointed.
