I'm tired of villains having no respect for protagonists in game stories.

Posted: 06 Apr 2018 12:31 PM PDT

A lot of you have probably seen John Wick. Great movie, right? Most people enjoy it for the action and the very methodical / logical gunplay (for the most part), but I actually enjoy John Wick more because the villain(s) in that movie's setting have extremely obvious and significant respect for John Wick. The name "John Wick" makes people go pale and fidget in that movie. They know who he is, they know what he can do, and they admire and fear him.

That right there is so refreshing, because there are far too many plots in games especially where the villain always thinks the protagonist is just a nuisance and isn't important. I'm tired of that. It's lazy writing. It's archaic.

(Betrayal, as a plot device, is also played out. But that's not here or there.)

What are some games recently where you felt the protagonist was properly respected and NOT treated as a mere annoyance by the villains?

What are some unpopular opinions about video games in general that you have?

Posted: 06 Apr 2018 09:08 AM PDT

Unpopular Opinion threads always generate interesting discussion in other subreddits and I haven't seen one in /r/Games before.

NOTE: Please do refer to your opinions as opinions, nothing here is objectively good or bad, you simply thought it was good or bad.
