Mages Guild Monday - Share Your ESO Knowledge, Ask Questions, Get Info If You're New!

Posted: 02 Apr 2018 02:00 AM PDT

Hey folks,

Welcome to Mages Guild Monday, a community-building, regularly occurring thread on the subreddit!

Mages Guild Monday is a thread aimed at sharing tips, tricks, knowledge and information about the game.

Know of a place that yields a particularly good reward? Got a tip about how to most efficiently accomplish quests? Have some good intel on good ways to serve your alliance in PvP? Let the community know!

In addition, if you're new to following the game, this thread is your chance to ask questions and get help from veteran players.

Please keep in mind the 'no personal attacks' rule in our sidebar, disagree respectfully with others, and know that a repeated or seemingly obvious bit of knowledge may not be obvious to everyone.

We look forward to your contributions!

I'm in love with you all.

I'm Level 30, brand new the game, having trouble with world bosses last night. Gave a shout out at 02:00 AM European time. Within 15 minutes a mob of approximately 10 individual players arrived at Salothans council and we just flattened it.

Another guy in the group says he's been struggling with Wuyuvus - the entire group follows me on my mount to help this guy. Again, smashed it.

By this point, people are saying 'which boss next', lower levels are calling out bosses they've not been able to do, and whispers are coming to me for invites.

We spent the next two hours flooring all of the Vvardenfell world bosses multiple times as a enormous and beautifully laggy group, and then moved on to public dungeons.

Mounts were charging into battle, lures and drums everywhere... probably one of my most memorable MMO experiences. What a night.

To the player who spent 5 minutes in an emote battle with me...

You are what makes this game great. We didn't say a single word to each other, but you blasted me with cherry blossoms as I was fishing, which turned into a silent exchange of ridiculous emotes.

I haven't laughed that hard at a video game before! I love finding people that don't take games super seriously :)

Well, this is a first and hopefully a last. I'm actually baffled by this, truth be told. I was just kicked from a 4 man dungeon of Fang Lair before we even got to the first boss because I was "using swords." I just have the Xivkyn sword override though because I love the look of them, in reality I'm using Mechanical Acuity axe and dagger. Just thought this was hilarious and I should share.

Sorcerer Build for PVE

Posted: 02 Apr 2018 02:53 AM PDT

Hi All! I just started playing ESO last week. Been loving the game so far. I play as a DK Argonian tank and he's now lvl 35 but somehow i felt like playing a dps char just to rotate with my main for a change of pace. and sorcerer comes to mind.

I know the meta will change in the future but i still want to know whats the stronger build out there in terms of dps in dungeons and other pve content.

TIA!

[Discussion] How can I interact more with other people?

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 06:39 PM PDT

I've been playing for a few weeks now, but I've been keeping to myself a lot. I have quite a bit of social anxiety over looking like a noob or bad at the game and I don't really know what the etiquette is. I want to interact more; I've only played one other MMO (Runescape) and I was only more social there because I've played it since I was a kid. The most social thing I've done so far is buy crafting supplies from Guild traders.

I've got an itch to get back into an MMO and I think this is the one.

Posted: 01 Apr 2018 05:31 PM PDT

My first MMO was FFXI which got me hooked on the genre. Then WoW of course where I became the big dude with chips all over his chest from that South Park episode.

Then I dabbled with the good and the bad versions of FFXIV and now I want to try something new. I loved Skyrim so I'm feeling this will be a good fit.

I guess my question is how is the community online? Are a lot of people still playing this game? Are people loving the expansions?

I'm picking up the base game from Gamestop tomorrow for $6.99, kinda hard to say no to that (and I believe there are no monthly fees if I'm not mistaken).

[Discussion] Crown Store – Ability Animations as a product category.

Posted: 02 Apr 2018 03:43 AM PDT

Game assets comprise three main components:
Geometry, Textures and Animations with attendant visuals (fx).

The Crown Store and Cash shops in general, monetize the first two components and offer the third only as part of the other two.

To my knowledge all active abilities in ESO have a cast animation followed by a visual (the fx).

And these ability animations+fx have more or less remained unchanged since launch.

ESO has a large array of active abilities ranging from Class, World, Alliance, Guild all the way up to Weapon active abilities.

The Crown Store can offer a distinct animations category containing not only current animations (Personalities) but cast animations + fx which overtime encompass the entire range of ESO active abilities.

This approach equally applies to other MMOs as well as genres with a focus on ability based gameplay.

A given ability's animation+fx may come in say 3 tiers with each priced accordingly.

An Animations tab can exist in the Collectables UI where your purchased animations are stored.

You will have the freedom to swap out say your Crystal frag, Elusive Mist, Rearming Beast, or Caltrops animation as desired.

This essentially creates a "Costume System" for ability animations in ESO.

Other than Personality and Active ability animations, the Crown Store can include:

  • animations+fx for melee and ranged light/heavy attacks.
  • character walk and run animations.
  • as well as idle and summon animations+fx for your Mount and Pet.

The assumption here, perhaps a tall order, is that all these additional animations+fx aren't too taxing on the game engine.

So, are you okay with the freedom (at a price of course) to switch your ability animations as the mood takes you?
Or, are things just fine the way they are and giving ZOS even more Crown Store ideas is just a no no?
