Dead by Daylight Subreddit Update: Rule changes and moderator applications

Subreddit Update: Rule changes and moderator applications

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 02:12 AM PDT

Hello people of the fog!

As mentioned a few days ago, we have a new update for you in regards to the proposed rule changes for memes/shitposts. Additionally, we have another announcement based on the most recent events surrounding April Fool's. For those out of the loop, please check this announcement and keep April Fool's-related discussions restricted to the aforementioned announcement.

Shitposts and r/deadbydaylight

First of all, we'd like to inform you that we updated AutoModerator's schedule today, which means that Thoughtful Thursday is now officially removed from this subreddit. For the record, it's been gone since three weeks now, but AutoMod's schedule hasn't been updated in that period of time. It's up to date now, though.

Up next: rule changes. After taking your feedback into consideration, we decided to dispense with the proposed "Zero effort memes" rule. This means we will add the following two types of memes to Rule 2.13 - Oversaturated Content:

  • Bandwagon memes - Memes which attempt to ride off the success of another meme on /r/deadbydaylight by copying, spinning-off or making reference to it without making substantial or significant changes
  • Cookie cutter memes - Memes which are reposts that only change the title or caption

Please note that we will be as lenient as possible about this. We will not immediately ban a new, popular meme forever and only allow one of its kind. We'll keep the individual cases under review and will issue temporary bans depending on the overall popularity and hype of that particular meme, including a proper announcement by a moderator if a temporary ban is being issued. For further reference, please see the temporary ban of Gru memes, which we allowed again after the hype settled down.

Lastly, we've included a link to our Memeless Mode in the sidebar. As a friendly reminder, please flair your posts after submission to make this mode as efficient as possible! We are already aware of an issue involving Firefox and RES and we're currently investigating it. We will keep you updated on that!

Minor change of Rule 2.1 - Unrelated Content

We'd like to inform you that we added Deathgarden, BHVR's new IP, to the aforementioned rule about contents not related to the game:

This prohibits, but is not limited to, the following kinds of posts:

  • [...]
  • Posts primarily about games similar to Dead by Daylight, such as Deathgarden, Friday the 13th: The Game, Last Year, Depth and White Noise 2

If you want to discuss the new game, please visit /r/Deathgarden or /r/coldwindfarm and join the hype!

Moderator Applications

Because of the continued growth of the subreddit and the most recent incidents, we're looking to add two to three new moderators to the /r/deadbydaylight moderation team. Please read the following points carefully and be aware that subreddit moderators are fan volunteers. No compensation is provided.

Requirements

  • Reddit account has been registered for at least 6 months
  • You are not an employee and/or representative of Starbreeze Studios and/or Behaviour Interactive
  • You have a Discord account or you are willing to register a Discord account for your possible position as moderator. Many of our larger-scale efforts are group efforts - other mods may ask for other's input, emergency situations can suddenly develop that require immediate attention, community feedback needs to be discussed internally and so on. If you are unfamiliar with Discord we are happy to help you set up and get started.

Preferences

  • Friendly, patient and helpful attitude. Moderating can be difficult and challenging in many ways, please be aware of that.
  • Active member of the Dead by Daylight community as a player and as a subscriber of /r/deadbydaylight. Experience with both the game itself and the subreddit benefits the course of action as a moderator and is a quick way to gauge how involved someone is with the community.
  • Willing to put time and effort into moderation. While /r/deadbydaylight is not as active or hectic as larger-scale subs, a large amount of effort still goes into moderation such as monitoring queues, frequently supervising the "new submissions" section to identify and take actions against rule violations, making sure all submissions are assigned the appropriate flair, spoiler- or nsfw-tag, responding to moderator mails, and so on.
  • Experience with moderating other communities; either on Reddit (other subreddits) or not on Reddit (not necessary but welcome)
  • Experience with Reddit CSS, Reddit's moderation tools, Toolbox or AutoModerator (not necessary but welcome)

Click HERE to fill out the application.

Applications will be closed on April 20th, 2018. We will review candidates internally and approach successful candidates via modmail as soon as possible.

Thank you for your attention!

-The /r/deadbydaylight mod team

To my dearest Claudette at the exit gate ...

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 01:31 AM PDT

I was a fellow survivor who ran towards you and the closed exit gates in Springwood. My heart was weary when I saw you were there first to open the gate. Not because I wanted the opening points, but I only wanted to finish my 'open exit gate with David' daily. The other exit must have been already opened or the killer was close, I wasn't sure, but the tension was clear. I knelt beside you as you opened the door. I was begging you with silent but needy eyes and that I would be so grateful if you let me open the very last inch of the gate. I wasn't expecting it, but our souls must have connected and you took a step aside and left me the very last inch to open. You couldn't see my eyes - Davids eyes - as they shed thousands of grateful tears. I will never forget you and I hope we will meet again. You were my hero of the match. I will spend the daily bloodpoints in your honor.

May you ever be lucky in the fog.

Yours truly,

David

Bming? Nah. Immersed? Nah. Gen jockey? Nah.

That one mofo that always stays near a pallet crouching and scares the shit out of me by stunning me when I walk past by one . Fuck you.

Water As An Obstacle In Dead By Daylight

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 05:48 AM PDT

Problem: Dead by daylight is divided into mostly only 3 categories for landscape: open ground, pallet loops, and occasionally shacks (which always are helpful to survivors) The latter 2 give a large advantage to the survivors when used correctly. This is odd because you would think killers would be the master of their stalking grounds. (Gideon and Lerys of course are exceptions)

Idea: I think a nice addition to dead by daylight is to add large puddles/small ponds. These ponds would function as almost solely as a disadvantage to survivors. These ponds would be knee deep and would be roughly 15x15 feet.

Survivors: If a survivor chooses to wade through the pond they will be slowed to 70% from their 100%. As well as it being very easily audible by a killer within a certain distance. Another disadvantage would be that you for the same time as blood you will drop water puddles. These puddles would drop for 7 seconds.

Killers: The killer moves normal speed, however they are loud as well when wading through the water, and might have a harder time seeing if someone is hiding in it depending on their height. I don't know if I'm a open area ponds would help but if a pallet loop is partially submerged it will prevent extended looping, leaving 1 or maybe 2 loops. Another possible disadvantage would be 1/2 lunge range (This wouldn't be very impactful)

Side-notes: 1. Spies From The Shadows at level 2-3 would work for ponds as well.

  1. If a survivor crawls into the pond while downed the pool will turn red and bubbles will rise to surface of water from survivor. Survivors cannot drown, therefore it will not speed up bleeding out.

  2. Killers like Hag, Pig, Huntress, Trapper, and Hillbilly would benefit from this addition most. However sadly Freddy wouldn't due to the sound and visual effect of water.

  3. Wraith and Pig while in stealth form barely give away position in water and would be hard to notice, wraith would not make any sound or waves from walking in water while cloaked. Pig would barely disturb water and emit noise, however crouching is very effective at hiding in pond.

  4. If you somehow manage to be underwater your hearing for both killer and survivor becomes distorted and generally useless until you resurface.

  5. Only 1 or 2 hooks spawn in pond per game.

  6. Doctors shock therapy upon touching pond will spread out to cover pond with the shock, gives double madness. You gain madness faster in water.

  7. There will be debris in pond.

  8. Monstrous shrine now makes the floor of basement a pond.

  9. 1 jigsaw box spawns in pond.

  10. Ponds smaller on Lery's and Gideon Meatplant.

  11. Nurse leaves a line of rising water in pond when blinking.

  12. Chainsaws take longer to charge in pond due to some water getting into chainsaw, maybe 1-2 seconds longer.

  13. Generators do not spawn in pond.

  14. Hatch cannot spawn in pond.

  15. Items dropped in pond lose 10% durability for every 20 seconds left in water. This makes franklins more useful.

  16. Totems cannot spawn in water.

  17. Lightweight makes wading through the water 25/50/75% silenced.

  18. This wouldn't be the end all be all fix.

  19. I could go on for more but nah.

Depression and Gaming: The Kindness Community!

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 07:27 AM PDT

Hey, i'm Sentrix and i'm the creator of The Kindness Community, we are a community of gamers that suffer from depression, autism, bipolar and other types of mental illnesses, when I was a kid I was bullied at school for being different, I didn't understand why people bullied me or didn't like me, I felt hopeless and I NEVER want this to happen to anyone else ever again. Recently I decided to create a community for gamers like me to join and have fun together without being judged or bullied because it's something I would have loved to have when I was younger. We have a new discord server for everyone to have a safe space to just chill out and have fun, the link is https://discord.gg/rARMwWK, I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Things I Didn't Know About Ranks 1-4

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 09:33 AM PDT

I just recently got to the coveted rank 1 after a month or so of slowly getting better at the game. I thought rank 1 was gonna be...different to say the least. Obviously this is all in my personal experience so if you have different experiences that's okay. This is also coming from a survivor's perspective and obviously the killer's perspective will be a lot different.

Things I Didn't Know About Ranks 1-4:

  • Other survivors still do dumb stuff. The only difference is they tend to be bolder and cleanse hex totems quicker.

  • Fortune really does favor the bold

  • You gotta get good at hitting great skill checks or finding hex ruin. I played 10 games today and 8 of those games the killer ran ruin.

  • Also, cleansing dull totems is an absolute must, it's better to preemptively cleanse them realize the killer has NOED when they down you.

  • The killer is going to kill you....a lot. I had a misconception that my teammates were going to be looping and flashlight gods who could execute a flawless victory. That is not the case. While it is true survivors are very strong, do not underestimate the killer. They are at this rank for a reason. I had a Wraith get a clean 4k in my earlier game.

  • Getting used to playing against the following killers: Hillbilly, Nurse, Huntress, and Michael Myers. Of course there are exceptions, like my Wraith example above, but these killers saturate ranks 1-4.

  • You always have to assume that the killer has the following perks: BBQ & Chili, Nurse's Calling, No One Escapes Death, and Hex Ruin. It is better safe than sorry.

  • You do not have to completely master looping like you are a god tier Twitch streamer, but you do have to know how to stall for a bit.

  • Basement hooks are sacred to killers. Do not get downed near the basement because, in my experience, it's damn near impossible to get unhooked.

  • Finally, you do not have to know how to use a flashlight to get to these ranks

So Pax starts today, should we expect that announcement they’ve been saving for the event on today’s dev stream?

Posted: 05 Apr 2018 06:46 AM PDT

Pretty much the title, I know they've mention they'll have another big announcement for PAX but they've never specified when during PAX so maybe today's the day on the dev stream?
