Pro tip for Civ6: if it says that a spy has a 4% chance of dying in this mission, it actually means a 99% chance

Give Amani a promotion that increases the defense of the city state she's established in

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 11:28 AM PDT

This would be an easy way to give players the ability to protect their favorite city states. Multiple Amanis with the promotion in a city state would stack, making more diplomatically contentious city states harder to take. It could be a significant defensive bonus because its niche and limited to 1 city state.

Can you please add City Sprawl to Civ 6

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 04:38 AM PDT

This was one of the best visual things regarding cities in my opinion (in civ V). I understand that there are districts but if you have a large city it in real life sprawl far beyond the downtown. Even if it is just small houses, it would be great if they extended to the surrounding tiles (sparsely or not) depending on how large your population is.

Expansion Idea: Unions

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 03:25 AM PDT

Many people miss the World Congress from Civ V since the diplomacy in Civ VI is quite barebones. The Rise and Fall expansion brought specialized Alliances but it's still really lackluster. Also I find religion in this game quite tedious if you're going after a Religious Victory while it's completely negligible if you're not. Religion should play a much bigger role in the early game and people should have an incentive to spread the religion of another player. With this expansion idea I wanted to improve diplomatic relations and religion.

There are three different Union types: Religious Brotherhood, Economic Cooperation and Military Entente. Every alliance acts as a smaller kind of World Congress and have different levels of power based on different things. The Union types are unlocked at different levels. The civic Civil Service unlocks Defensive Pact instead of Alliances. Once a Union includes the majority of the world population it trancends to become the World Congress.

  • Religious Brotherhood: Immediately available. This is focused on faith, culture, growth and (optionally) gold or military. The founder of a religion also becomes the Head of the religion. Any civ who has all of their cities converted is forced into the union. Every Era the founder must choose a permanent positive trait (e.g. increase in faith or combat bonusses against other religions), a negative trait (e.g. decrease in science, military production or having to pay the Head of the religion GPT) and may start an Emergency (e.g. convert this particular civ or capture this city. Founder gets additional bonusses if completed). Members can be excommunicated or leave this Union but this will bring heavy Amenity penalties until the Scientific Theory has been researched. The founder loses their special privilege once they enter the Industrial Era; instead, all members get votes based on their population and may abort negative traits. The power of the Brotherhood is based on the amount of converted citizens relative to the world population. A higher level of power comes with stronger positive traits and global negative traits.

  • Economic Cooperation: available once Mercantalism has been researched. This is focussed on Gold, Amenity, growth and (optionally) anything else. All members get votes based on the amount of cities, markets/harbors and resources they have. Works like the World Congress with the two players with the most votes being able to propose certain policies, like Embargo a Civ, Arts/Science funding and banning/enhancing luxury resources. Trade routes between members are also enhanced. The power of the Economic Cooparation is based on the amount of luxury resources, markets/harbors and population. Every continent that has at least one city of one of the members greatly enhanced the Economic Cooperation. Members can also dedicate strategic resources to this Union to increase the power and to get more votes (this way horses and iron aren't useless in the later game). Monopolizing luxury resources also boosts this Union.

  • Military Entente: Available once Nationalism has been researched and again when you change your government to a tier 3 gov. This is focussed on military, production and (optionally) anything else. Works the same as the Economic Cooperation. Treaties can improve combat bonusses, production or other things like science and open borders between members. Amount of votes is based on citizen count and your military strength. There are no different power levels though. Once a player gets a tier 3 government they may form a new Union based on their ideology with Civs adopting this ideology too (even before they researched the civic themselves) and become their leader. There can be multiple Ideology Unions of the same type. Every ideology has their own traits, decided by their leader. Power level is decided by the amount of citizens following this ideology relative to the World population; the power level impacts the strength and the amount of traits that can be implemented.

World Congress: Once the majority of people are members of a Union it can transcend to become World Congress. Not everyone has to be a member of the WC but these resolutions have global impact. The WC has the same resolutions as the other three and then some. Diplomatic Victory can be achieved by declaring yourself World Leader.

City states can also join Unions if their citizens are converted (Religious Brotherhood) or if their Suzerain is a member (Economic/Military). They slightly increase the power of their Unions but their Suzerain gets more votes.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it fits the game? If not, why not? Sadly this does favour wide Civs over tall ones even more than it already does but that seems to be more 'realistic'.

Expanded ancient era

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 06:30 AM PDT

I know this wouldn't likely ever happen... But wouldn't it be fun to have an expanded ancient era? Like maybe you have to be hunter-gatherers, and not settle cities for 10 turns? And somehow incorporate wooly mammoth and Neanderthals for a few turns...

Just a dream. Anyone else feel it though?

Civ 6 many years along, how do you feel about the graphics and UI?

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 12:43 PM PDT

It seems each iteration of Civ takes a fairly distinct look to it's graphics and UI. I think Civ 5 was my overall favorite. A good mix between serious and comic, I think they really hit the sweet spot.

Six is a bit too...colorful, perhaps? Does anyone else have opinions on it, positive or negative?

It used to be as easy as clicking any tile in CiV, really miss that fluidity.

Found a fantastic Mod for Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 07:10 AM PDT

Hey there,

if you are feeling a bit nostalgic for colonization you should definitely try out the fantastic mod "The Authentic Colonization (TAC)" for Civ IV's colonization remake.

I played the unmodded game and was a bit dissapointed but then i found this really professionally done mod, which fixes stupid behaviours and adds a lot of new content!

I had some problems running the mod with my mac, but could use wineskin to make it run (i can post instructions later).

The wiki page of this mod is mostly german but the mod itself was fully translated. I can only highly recommend checking it out.

more information here: https://forums.civfanatics.com/resources/tac-2-03_final-the-authentic-colonization.19763/

or download this zip for a manual install: http://download.civforum.de/civ4col/TAC/INSTALL_MANUELL_TAC%202.03_final.zip

Easy question, would you move 1 tile NE to get the stone in range? It does make a slightly less crazy start as my 2 workable tiles each have 1 production only.

About resources

Posted: 26 Apr 2018 09:10 AM PDT

Hi there,

When trading with other nations, if the luxury resource amount is one, for example Spices (1), is that all spice I have or is it extra on top of one that is used by my civ?

In other terms, if I trade it, will my happiness go down?

Thanks!
