[Serious] Cerberus Paralyzing Spit (1) needs to change

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 04:05 PM PST

While it is clear for most that Cerberus is still a bit underwhelming, even after the most recent buffs of 5.3, I wanted to share some more insight about the clear weak spot in the kit of Cerberus.

"Paralyzing Spit" - is a Ranged, multi projectile based Ability, that requires 2 conditions to apply the stun and the maximum dmg.

First of all i wanted to show how big the area for a potential stun is. For that i have made this graphic and tried my best to represent all sizes correctly to the ingame situation:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DXUVQeSW4AEHPIv.jpg:large

  • Cerberus is being represented by a Blue Circle on the left side, which is showing his hit box.

  • The Black Cycle is a representation of any god with the default (and minimal) Hit Box Size of 3.125ft (1.56ft radius) [Most gods in the game use this size]

  • The 3 different colored bars are the 3 projectiles of the Heads and the other green area is the additional area the Snake is covering.

  • The Red Triangle is the area in which a Stun is applied. The center of a god needs to be within that area. (this area would be bigger on a God with a larger hit box size, like Khepri for example)

The problems with Paralyzing Spit

As you can see plenty of space in front of Cerberus is not covered as the projectiles are spawned based on the visual animation. As such a target right in front of Cerberus, can never be stunned or even hit. In fact the closest point a god could get stunned is right in the center 21ft away from Cerberus.

  • The ability Targeter is showing nothing of this kind of area, as such the ability is a lot harder to aim then it would be with a proper targeter.

  • The Size of this Area in which a god can be stunned is about 126ft² big, to give you a perspective of how small that is: Hercules 2nd Ability "Earthbreaker" has an effective hit Area of 168ft² (33% bigger). Or Ramas last shot on the Ultimate has 176ft² (~40% bigger). Both of these are considered difficult skill shots, even for veteran players.

  • Walls: When we talk about difficult support skill shots, we think of Ares Chains or Fafnir Hammer, but both these abilities have a big advantage over Cerberus Paralyzing Spit, they can be used through walls. And while this is a conditional thing and some players are not aware of it, it is a helpful thing to have. Cerberus however not only cannot shoot through walls, but he is also shooting his projectiles from a width of about 10ft. And just 1 of his projectiles needs to be blocked to make the stun absolutely impossible.

  • Close combat focus: Cerberus is a god with a kit designed for a combat on a range of 0-35ft. A short leap, a channeled cone and an AoE ultimate. Paralyzing Spit however is practical useless on that range. For a chance of getting that stun of you need at least 21ft distance. For a god and more importantly supports that is focused all around close combat to have an ability that just can be used on range is simply a very odd thing.

Solution concepts

There are plenty of solutions for the issues named. One option could be to give it time and Cerberus plenty of additional buffs till some players can shine with him. Other options would mean changes in the core functionality to either make the ability easier to hit or more useful in situations.

  • Aimable Targeter - This idea comes from Flareb00t and basically suggests to use a targeter similar to Kalis 2nd ability. You would be able to Aim the center of the ability and with that the stun area. This would keep the stun area small and the skill shot potential high. The only issue, the 4 hit dmg would be easier to apply, which would make the burst to powerful. To counteract that, we could see some sort of DMG scaling for Range. For example starting with 75% dmg at close range and scaling up to 100% at max range. That way max range stuns would remain insanely impactful dmg wise, while making close range stuns more reliable, by sacrificing dmg.

  • A simpler option, but probably less exciting would be to simply reduce the hit requirement from 4 to 3 to apply the stun. That way the Stun area would be far bigger, and stuns would feel less lucky. full 4 hits would still deal the most dmg.

Discussion

What do you guys think, should Cerberus keep the insanely difficult to hit stun and remain his dmg potential, as players might figure out how to play him properly, or do you agree that he needs changes, and if yes, what do you want to see?

A list of ability mechanics/god archetypes that Smite could make use of.

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 07:48 AM PST

Since I don't do god concepts anymore, I figured I'd compile a simple list of the mechanics and archetypes I've made over the years making up kits. Some of them are very simple, while others are very complex and wouldn't be as easy to balance. I do like Smite's kits, but I feel like we could use a little more in the creativity department for some gods.

Below are some god archetypes and ability ideas that I think would be neat in Smite, used from my own concepts as well as other MOBAs.

Summoner
- A god whose kit revolves primarily around summoning different kinds of pets/mobs. They would trade traditional burst damage for utility and debuffs and the like.

Growing/Shrinking
- A mechanic that has the god growing and/or shrinking their player model, possibly to grant tankiness and movement speed.

Multi-Class
- A god who can change their class between the five classes. This would require a lot of balance, but I think it could be pulled off.

Global Presence
- A god who sits still or doesn't move much, but has global presence or makes themselves useful from extreme distances. The idea is from Abathur in Heroes of the Storm.

Magnetism
- A god who uses magnetism or force to control the battlefield, pushing and pulling people or even objects like player walls around.

Multi-God
- A god who is two or more gods in one that can be switched between or even controlled separately somehow.

Stopping Time
- Temporarily stopping time or even just freezing cooldowns somehow. Would have to be very very short.

Living CC
- A god who is essentially just a living CC, their passive possibly being just a constant minor slow or something.

Rhythm God
- Using abilities in certain orders or at certain times grants bonuses, kind of like a rhythm/dance game.

Illusions
- The Morrigan and Loki barely hit this nail. A god who makes use of illusions to do their work, is slippery and hard to catch but their strength lies in baiting your abilities.

Structure Creator
- Not in the sense of a tower/phoenix. A god who can summon different parts to create structures depending on what elements they mix.

"Voodoo" God
- Not necessarily voodoo, but a god who uses a puppet or doll to target enemies similar to Kali. They can attack this god from a distance if they have them locked.

Power-Up God
- Over time or through some other mechanic the god would be able to change attributes of themselves in different trees. They could choose more power, more speed, etc and their physical appearance would change to match.

Ability Power-Ups
- In the same sense, only their abilities start out bland and weak and as time goes on or criteria are met the abilities evolve into something more powerful.

Debuff Caster
- A caster who trades almost all of their damage in favor of various debuffs that can help their team.

Combination Caster
- A caster who has weak separate abilities, but using abilities in succession or somehow combining abilities produces varied effects. This could also be amped up to be like the one hero from Dota2 where your abilities are catalysts and using them in certain orders produces completely different abilities.

A True Antimage
- Old Nox was a true antimage, however they removed her possibly for being too hard to balance. I think they could redo her old kit and repurpose it to be less awkward to create a true anti-caster.

Parasitic God
- The god on their own would suck, but they could attach themselves to allies and be carried around, gaining different abilities to aid them. Would definitely be a support.

"Cooking" God
- Based from my favorite god concept, Uke Mochi. All of your abilities are on a set timer and have three forms. In each form the ability trades something and gains something else (in my case "raw" abilities had more CC and did less damage, while "burned" abilities had more damage and did less CC.)

Luck-Based God
- A support or mage whose kit revolves around luck/slight RNG. The RNG would provide buffs no matter what, however it would be randomized. This is one of the harder concepts to work with.

Pain-For-Power God
- A mechanic where the god could hurt themselves to gain power, but sacrifice health and mana. Would be like Thanatos only more severe.

Bullet Hell God
- Would be a mage or hunter whose entire kit revolves around shooting different projectiles with different effects. They would be absolute garbage in melee range but uncontested at a distance.

Burrowing
- An ability that lets the god burrow through the ground to different locations.

Reflection
- A barrier that reflects one or more projectiles back at the attacker.

Counter
- A split second counter ability. If timed correctly, you would spare yourself damage while also dealing damage to the attacker. Would possibly be able to stop incoming CC or something. Almost like Ravana 2 but better.

Stasis
- An ability that allows you to put an ally in stasis or contain them, making them unable to move but protecting them from harm.

Tradeoff Assassin/Hunter
- An assassin or hunter with a stance switch. In one stance they can only lifesteal, while in the other they can only crit.

Healing Hunter
- A hunter or mage adc who can swap between dealing damage and healing allies. Would be very hard to balance considering hunters are typically made for damage.

Enemy Tether
- An ability that lets you tether two enemies together, or tether a single enemy to a wall or yourself.

Wall Leaping
- Hou Yi's ricochet except you are the arrow.

Storing Abilities
- Not in the sense of The Morrigan. You would be able to store a projectile that hits you to reuse later against your enemies.

Hiding Inside Minions
- An ability that lets you hide inside of minions or creeps, similar to Nox. You would be completely undetectable and able to ambush enemies.

Soldier Summoner
- Similar to Azir from League of Legends. You would be able to summon a special unit that you can control with your abilities.

Boundary God
- Pretty much the Roman god Terminus. Your abilities would be able to block off enemies from your allies, set down rings and other damaging borders, and basically booby trap areas.

Indirect God Control
- You would be able to project yourself out of your god's body and still control them, however if you were killed you would reappear where you casted, as well as be able to take damage while your body is limp.

Buffing Ally Abilities
- One of your abilities would allow you to buff your ally, causing their next ability to gain a bonus based on what type of ability it is. Longer range, more damage, longer CC, etc.

Shadow Walking
- Self explanatory. You can walk through walls.

Flight
- True flight, not like Freya or Jing Wei. Upon use you enter a vertical plane where you cannot be hit, but you can't cast abilities (or can only cast one.) In this stance you can fly over walls and such but it'd drain your passive or some other reserve. Would be tricky to work with, but cool to pull off.

Possession
- Basically Nox dash but into an enemy. Would work differently too, somehow. Possibly being able to deal damage with your abilities while inside them, but being immune. Definitely an ult.

Hive God
- A (bug related) god who controls a swarm of some kind that allows them to cast their abilities and such. You would have to meet certain criteria of some kind to grow the swarm. Basically visible mana but cooler.

Sacrifice God
- A god who can sacrifice themselves in different ways to benefit their allies.

Mirror Clone
- Creating a clone of yourself that mimics what you are doing but reflected in front of you, so that you both face inward toward a point.

Mirrors
- Simple mirror mechanic. When you walk through it, you teleport to where it was placed almost like a Janus portal. If you fire projectiles through it, they appear out of the other mirror. Would make for a great tricky ADC.

Mounting God
- A god or ability that lets your allies mount you or some sort of vehicle to transport them.

Self Destruct
- A last minute death ability or passive that causes you to explode violently, dealing massive damage but also killing yourself in the process.

Scramble
- An ability that reverses/scrambles the movements of your enemies.

Disable
- An ability that causes the last ability used by an enemy to be disabled until they use another.

Structure-Based God
- A god who has one or more abilities that revolve around buffing towers/phoenixes to keep them alive. Would obviously have to be looked at a lot to make sure they aren't too strong.

"Heavy" Ranged Attacks
- Ranged basic attacks that travel slower/hit harder as opposed to fast and light.

Charged Basic Attacks
- Basic attacks that you have to hold down the attack button to charge, or let go of early for faster attacking.

Ceasefire CC
- A silence pretty much, except you can't attack in any way while inside of this CC. This goes for both teams.

"Damnation"
- A spooky ability that causes the selected god to be truly banished from the game for a short amount of time. One version I made was that only you can see them and they can see you, and you are both suspended in an alternate plane of some kind. The second version was that they were sent to this dimension alone for some time, where they were the only unit and could not do anything until the CC was over.

Hallucination
- A soft CC that causes the afflicted gods to see false illusions.

Living Tower
- A god who could temporarily become a living tower, an immovable structure that projects protections or something but can also attack.

Mana Drain
- Also self explanatory, but hard to balance.

Cadaver God
- An idea I actually just thought of while typing. If you died near another dead god you would be able to resurrect yourself through them, using their body to reanimate yourself though weaker. Could be done countless times until you have no bodies left to resurrect in or you just got so weak it didn't matter.

Trap Placing God
- A god who is based around setting traps and mines to dish out CC. A map controller.

Switching Places
- An ability that lets you switch places with an ally to take incoming damage for them.

Counter-Spell
- A buff that causes abilities or the next ability that hits you to have the opposite effect. Damage heals you, CC hits them instead, etc.

Ward-Based God
- This god would have abilities based around having map vision, as well as having ward based abilities. I had an idea for Heimdall where he would channel the Bifrost from all wards, which would let allies teleport via ward to him and gain a buff to battle.

No-Damage God
- A bit of a controversial one, but basically they'd have high healing and buffs in place of all damage. They would not be able to do any damage whatsoever, but everything else would be super strong.

Shapeshifter God
- Not in the sense of The Morrigan, again. This god would be able to change form in a manner similar to Achilles where they trade stats, but they'd have multiple forms. This is an unused idea for a god concept I had planned for the god of nightmares Epiales. He was going to turn into common fears like spiders and snakes.

Changing Damage Type
- A god who could change their damage type, however it would have some sort of penalty. Maybe they can't change once they select once, or their items are weakened.

Hitscan Basic Attacks
- A pretty simple one that has been used before, but not in Smite. The god's basic attacks would instantly zap targets they aim at, however it couldn't be altered by attack speed.

Climbing God
- A god who could climb on walls that aren't the map boundary walls. Would allow for interesting ganks.

Chargeable Abilities
- All of this god's abilities could be charged by holding the attack button once used, granting them more damage or CC if they are held for the maximum time. Would be very slow but very rewarding.

Completely Ranged Guardian
- A guardian, except they don't jump into the fight directly. They would have a kit that allows them to do their job from a distance, just like a mage only their abilities don't deal as much damage and are more for CC and buffs/debuffs. They would have no leap, no direct CC, just ranged abilities to do the job for them.

Weapon Forger
- A god, preferably warrior, who can forge different weapons while out of battle or in fountain. The weapons would have different effects and would completely change their playstyle, however they could only choose one.

Stat Stealing
- A thief god who can steal the stats of enemy gods temporarily. When they are killed, stats are returned or something along those lines.

Split
- A mechanic where dealing high damage to a god causes them to split into smaller clones of themselves with less stats, however with more bodies. The more damage you deal, the more they multiply.

Split Version 2
- Through some criteria the god could multiply themselves, allowing them to cast basic attacks and abilities in various directions. Would stop at 3.

Secondary Store
- A god that you could buy items from. These items would grant temporary bonuses in lane or something. This idea is kinda shot because of starter items so I never tried to redo it.

Orb Mechanic
- I think a champion in League of Legions has this. The god would have an orb that they could command around and cast their spells with to have more distance and control between them and opponents.

Telekinesis
- Cerberus sort of has this actually. You would be able to CC an enemy and then throw them in a direction of your choosing using movement keys.

Slow Motion
- An ability that causes enemies to move in slow motion.

Soul Extraction
- Used in my concept for Viduus. You would be able to separate the soul of an enemy, and attacking it would deal damage to them no matter where they went for a short period.

Ability Painting
- Sort of complicated to explain and implement. It would be like AMC honey, except painting certain patterns would produce certain effects. Never figured out a way to make this work well enough.

I think that's about all the ideas I really liked from all my concepts. Any ability/mechanic/archetype ideas you guys have?

I know this is a divisive issue and there have been so many posts about it, but...

Seriously... This adventure can just fuck right off. It's such an insult to anyone playing it, not just the gameplay but the whole loot system attached. A part of me dies off every time I get a booster after several hours of playing the same monotonous drivel that they're masquerading as content. And to think that even after this week, I'd still not be done and I would have to go through the same grind on the next patch, all the while getting 0FP, not to mention being unable to put that time into playing regular Smite. Honestly, they should just give people who've grinded for 2 foxes the other 2 foxes for free.

Inb4, you're not being forced to play anything. I am aware, but I still want these skins as I'm sure others like me do as well. Stop defending scummy practises like this. You give them an inch and they'll take a mile.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just extremely frustrated getting my fifth booster this week after also going through four boosters last time. It doesn't help that I'm playing a different god every single run, listening to something else on the side and only doing 1 chest a day... This adventure is pure evil.

SPL Rosters

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 01:34 PM PST

So they updated their website with the schedule for the first split and all and that's great, but the final org and the rosters for LG and this TBA org (CLG most likely) aren't on the website yet everyone else is. The due date was yesterday and they said they would have everything up today yet we still don't know them? I thought they wanted to pay more attention to the SPL from now on yet they are still just as clunky and unorganized.

Hel's passive meter.

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 06:59 PM PST

I was just thinking about Hel as per usual while I was playing Ullr and it dawned on me that Hel's passive meter, as cute as it is, does not have the same sweetass function as Ullr and Artios. I would fancy being able to see my cooldowns. (Like in theirs)

So I was wondering if we could get that working HiRez. The only thing different I feel would be the attunement bar underneath the other stuff so you can still see her strength scaling etc.

I know there was some talk about it, has anyone heard of anything? Pls send halp.

Ghost Rider Hachiman

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 08:13 PM PST

Hachiman Skin based off of Ghost Rider.

His headgear is replaced by a flaming skull.

He wears a biker outfit.

He uses a shotgun as a weapon.

His 1 surrounds the shotgun in hellfire and it fires blasts of hellfire.

His 2 drops an area of fire.

His 3 swings around his chains.

His 4 is his signature motorcycle, with him shooting his shotgun with one hand, whilst riding.

Gonna start posting more of my (messy and shitty/decent) skin/God concepts, and see if people like them. (would be dope if someone did art for them too)

Hou Yi and Erlang Shen.

Mark a target with Hou Yi's 2, use Erlang Shen's 3 for the fatalis effect, then use Erlang Shen's 1 for the extra basic attack damage, and your target gets deleted. Also the dog does 15% of the damage as well. You could taunt enemies into the Hou Yi ult.

If the enemy is fed it is harder for Jungle to help out

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 05:04 AM PST

Try to remember guys, if every lane is lost on the team, the jungler cant be everywhere at once to help out.

Also not many people consider the lanes jungle can get to will find it a lot harder to confirm kills as a higher leveled enemy is of course going to be harder to kill or outbox, and if they are also stealing jungle farm the jungler is likely going to be falling behind too whilst the enemy jungler is having very easy farm.

Whilst it is understandable to feel that your team needs to rotate to you to help you confirm your buff know that might not be a priority over preventing a double kill in duo lane or trying to contest a gold fury.

Also its a lot harder for jungle to know where to rotate to when there's no wards down, cant see where the enemy are rotating on fast enough if there are no wards.

What is the Weirdest Transition Between Ranks?

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 02:14 PM PST

Poorly worded, I know. What I mean is what is the most drastic change between ranks? I've played in Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Plat and to me Bronze and Silver are about the same. To me, going from Gold to Plat was the most dramatic shift and I feel like Plat is the most toxic rank I've been in by far. Gold has people that think they're good enough to carry but aren't, really. And in Plat most everyone is pretty good at the game, and for me was also the steepest change in difficulty as well.

Arachne Skin Concept: Non Drawn, Looking for artist.

Posted: 02 Mar 2018 09:31 PM PST

Aight here me out, ARACH-RAVE: She has the a classic old fashioned TV head with a OwO face to show her emotions, similar to the ganesha skin. For her upper half she wears a black jacket; open in the front, she wears a white t-shirt underneath the jacket with a jukebox with a smite logo on it, her bottom half are the sound bars that signify how loud music is, an example would be this.

Her first ability would be glowstickish glow around her hands, her second abilty would be wires around her hand, and her spiders would be metal spiders similar to her grim skin except their backs are actually sweet turntables.PLUS THEY ALSO RAVE ALONGSIDE HER PLEASE Her ult would be the disco floor for all of the other global disco emotes.

Alright thats about it, give some comment to what you would like added or what you would change.

EDIT: FORGOT ABOUT THE BEST PART, ELECTRIC KEYBOARD OR TURNTABLES FOR INSTRUMENT.
